Your anger towards Delour is well placed, she wanted something bad to happen to you during the play. How you deal with her is your own affair. I would just counsel you to be cautious and discreet.

And yes I think we will find out about the mayor's villa soon enough.

Discreet? Yes... Discreet. I shall be the very definition of the word. Well now, had I known you were to be such fit company I would have seen you at once and never have resisted my man's urgings to attend tonight's festivities.

You clean up quite nicely Caldir. You should tell me who your tailor is and I'll send some trade their way. You know for all our time together during the play, I never did get to know much about you personally. Where are you from and what are you about? You don't seem to be a common sell sword and for all your knack of it, I know you are no actor. What of it then?

Me, I am from a small town, I left because I had no family to keep me there. I came here as a courier and have continued to stay because I keep stumbling into jobs that are too good to pass up.

Well then, it certainly seems like things have picked up for you since you landed in Westgate. I think you are a good man Caldir, and I hope you don't lose that about yourself as you spend more time here.-chuckles to herself-I know, I know; I'm probably not one to talk. With all that said, a word of advice-I may not have been to the Mayor's villa before, but I know there will be an assembly of the influential and powerful. Watch what you say and who you say it to. It won't do to have you making enemies past that fool fop Thesing. He's a toothless viper; many of those you meet tonight will have one foot already firmly planted in the hells.

"Good advice, I will watch what I say, should we do anything special as we make our entrance?"

I think best to play to character-give them what they want to see, as no one will have any real interest in who we actually are. You should be the strong and infernally righteous Larazod, recently come through the trials and recognized as staunch ally of the dark lord of justice. I will be the once fabled beauty Ilsandra, also judged worthy of Asmodeus' favor and still in love with our hero Larazod. I'm not really by the way, just in case you were curious. You are a delightful man, but I don't see my future being filled with relationships worthy of the name. I'll play the part tonight and put on a good show for the assembled worthies. Until they all pass out from their excess, that is.

"Sounds like a good plan."

Have we arrived yet?

As the two of you finish up your discussion, the carriage and team slowly draw to a halt. The coachmen opens the door and ushers you through the rain and up the stairs to the main doors of the Mayor's home.

A corpulent building of iron and stone looms over its
neighbors in southern Westcrown—the mayor’s
abode is anything but subtle. This is no mere
house, but rather a bloated near-castle of
ochre and black, a huge manor with rusting
gargoyles dancing upon its gables among
hooks and nails to prevent the birds from
settling. Iron gutters vomit rainwater onto the
cobbled streets below, but bright lights burn
fierce in every window while plumes of smoke
boiling up from nearly two dozen chimneys
promise an interior as warm and welcome as the
exterior is cold and forbidding. Carriages arrive,
belching forth their well-dressed contents at the
end of a long canvas-topped walkway extending
from the manor grounds’ front gates to the
villa’s front doors, offering new arrivals
protection from the rain on the short
trip by carriage to Cornucopia.

You appear to be one of the last arrivals and cringing rain-soaked servants usher you along the dry canvas roofed walk way from the gates to the main hall. This way please noble souls!

Thickly carpeted and well lit, the walls
of this manor hang with numerous paintings of past
Westcrown mayors and nobility. Fully two-thirds of the
spots are empty.

Another servant ushers you forward, Through those doors and over the bridge an you will find yourselves in the banquet hall. Enjoy!

Escort Calseinica through the doors and over the bridge. Trying to observe as much as I can about the area we are passing through.

The garden surrounding the quaint wooden bridge that arches over a small stream flowing from a large devil's mouth mounted on the north wall is lush and well maintained. The water flows from the devil's mouth south across the area to a large pool and then out of sight. The banks are thick with wildflowers. You can hear the murmur of many voices as you get closer to the room ahead.

DC 15 perception:
You notice that although the garden appears to be outside, the sky above is cloudless and you can see a sky full of stars. It was raining heavily outside.

DC 20 perception:
While your gaze pans across the "night sky" above you notice a brief flash of movement as what appears to be a sinister devil-like shape flits furitively across the sky.

Keep moving forward, wondering whether I will make it through the night.

You are met at the archway by a relatively attractive, middle aged woman, wearing dark robes. She gives each of you a knowing look, though you have never met her before-Welcom Caldir and Calseinica. My name is Crosael Simiin Raasdovain, majordomo of the mayor's residence. The rest of the guests are within and awaiting your arrival. Enjoy your night.

She ushers you through the door and in a deep throaty voice-Honored guests, please welcome the stars of the recent Trials-Larzod, played by Caldir and Illsandra, played by Calsienica of the house of Nymmis!

Diplomacy check please to see how your entrance is received by those gathered.

There is a HUGE burst of applause and acclaim as you enter. The vast majority of those assembled seem almost overly delighted at your appearance and you are for a moment transported back to the euphoria you experienced when the play's audience roared your name.

You are immediately approached by a rotund, balding man with a quick and somewhat too-wide smile. He wears the Westcrown colors in his elegnat suit, along with a cloak made of winter wolf fur. From previous descriptions you recognize him as Lord-Mayor Aberian Arvanxi.

Well, well. Welcome; welcome! turning to the crowd You see my friends? I have produced the first surviving Larazod in recent memory. A star of the stage and his name to be known by all...Caldir! turning back to you Now ser, go mingle with my guests and impress them. I have the duties of grand host to attend to. Without offering you much of a chance to reply he turns and walks back to the party leaving you and Calsienica the object of many appraising eyes.

Besides the obvious servants the most notable persons you see are:

Crosael Simiin Rasdovain-Aberian's majordomo whom you have already met.

A grizzled, mean-looking middle-aged man with receding black hair and a neatly trimmed mustache; he wears a suit of stiff, black ceremonial leather armor that displays some form of insignia.

DC 30 perception:
It is a military badge indicating General or Admiral in the Chelish armed forces

A beautiful but dangerous-looking woman dressed in a scanty blue gown cut high along the sides and low in the front. Her long crimson hair is up in a ponytail and a strange fur is draped over her shoulders-what appears to be a serpentine, wolf-headed creature with wings.

A man with a well lined faced seemingly fixed in a tight grin. He wears a flowing robe accented with black peacock feathers.

A delicately featured woman who wears far too much makeup. Her silver hair is up in an extremely tight bun, over which she wears an outrageous headpieced shaped like a winged, erupting volcano.

You also see members from the performance-Visbaronetess Delour Aulamaxa and Robahl Nonon.

I whisper to Calseinica: "let's split up a d work the room for a bit then meet up again"

I approach the dangerous looking woman. "Good evening, I am Caldir, but I suspect you already know that. Wherever did you find that fur, I have not seen the like before."

She looks up from the assembled flock of what you assume to be minor dignataries and nobles that have surrounded her, competing for here attention-Hmmm? Oh this old thing? Well, yes I would imagine someone of your station might not recognize it. They are a rare species of beasts from the great southern jungles judged valuable for their tusks. I find their furs keep one warm during cold wet nights. My name is Chammady of family Drovenge, and I am here tonight as a courtesy from my family to the Mayor. She returns to her previous conversation, seemingly dismissing you from her presence.

DC 25 sense motive:
You can tell that while she is attempting to be offputting and aloof, she seems very interested in you and your presence at the dinner. She uses the assembled crowd of people vying for your attention to ignore you as much as possible. You can tell from the deference with which she is treated the family Drovenge is one of the most powerful in Westcrown.

On to the silver haired woman.

"Good evening my lady, what an exquisite headpiece!"

DC 15 perception:
You can tell that even this early, the woman is very sauced; and yet, she maintains her poise and wits. This is clearly not her first time at the rodeo and she seems to be enjoying her wine, which sip by slurp is getting lower.

Why thank you Ser Caldir! I retrieved it from my vault for this very occasion; family heirloom you know. Crafted by some famous Dwarven smith during happier times I believe. I am Sascar Tilernos, and I find it a very great pleasure to make your acquaintance at last. I am SO glad you could join us here this evening! Your performance was quite the delight! her shrill voice and affectations begin to irritate you as you realize why no one was holding much of a conversation with her prior to you. Can I have someone bring you a glass of grape? she flaps her hand at a nearby servant I brought my own bottles; just in case! You never can be too sure what others will serve and I find that my pallet can only be sated by the finest of vintages. Comes of excellent breeding I suppose. -hic- she snorts and cackles at her indescretion Yes, yes. Wine this fine shall always be mine! Ahhh...here comes a glass for you now.

A servant humbly offers you a crystal goblet filled with red wine and Sascar looks at you expectantly.

I take the offered glass of wine and raise it towards her, "to your health my lady".

An elated smile crosses her face and she puts her hand on your arm, drawing you in uncomfortably close. During the next few minutes you the most valuable piece of information you glean from her is:

Sascar believes the popular rumor that Arvanxi has a sick,
deformed son, and is all too anxious to express her deepest
concern for the boy in whispers when she thinks the mayor
cannot hear. According to her, the child lives in a secret room
in the attic, his affliction making him both susceptible to
terrible sunburns and unpleasant to look upon. This is an
old rumor that has fallen out of popular circulation, one that
rose when Aberian ended a gala early and ejected a dozen
guests from his home when they all attempted to enter the
manor attic under the mistaken impression that the mayor
had a harem hidden up there.

Who else remains nearby?

The mean looking man, the man with the tight grin, the mayor's majordomo, Delour, and Robahl.

You find it difficult to catch his interest as he is one of the primary centers of attention at this party. Eventually you work your way through the small mob thronging him and get to say hellow, but there is no chance for discreet questioning at this time.

Please don't insult me by thinking I am like most of the rest of the buffoons at this event. What I'd like to know is exactly who you are and what YOUR plans are with your newfound fame. (Sticking out my hand to shake his)

His eyes widen somewhat at your bluntness as he shakes your hand.

Well you are straight forward enough anyways; something to be respected in these slippery times. I am Eirtein Oberigo, and I make it my business to know things that are important to know. I get curious and concrened about folks like yourself of which there is so little to know. Is there really nothing there or are you hiding something like the rest of the Mayor's guests? I can tell you Delour took great joy in Calseinica's injuries and scarring.

Oh indeed? I thought Delour was largely responsible for Calsienica capturing that part at all? Hmmmm.... That acutally might make sense. I knew Delour was a b~+%#, but this is over the top. Juicy, thank you!

He looks contemplative for a moment, Well, based on what I have heard of you maybe I can give you some information about our host's demesne. Aberian’s Folly consists of three distinct regions—the manor itself, the dungeons below, and the manor vaults named the Asmodean Knot which are rumored to be somewhere in the upper floors of this place. I would pay handsomly to anyone that could find the location of the entrance to those vaults. A sum of 2,000 gold crowns would seem like an appropriate award. Hmmmm? He stares intently at you.

Are people getting drunk and sloppy yet? Do I believe I can wander back to the area with the stairs without being missed and wothout drawing a lot of attention to myself?

No one looks even remotely lit yet, except for maybe Sacar, and you get a feeling that it will take an enormous amount of booze to fell her.

As you ponder the inebration levels of your fellow guests, Crosael chimes a bell, Invited guests, please be seated for the first course-the feast of the Gluttonouse Wolf! There is a smattering of applause as people begin to sit down.

Calsienica circles back around and takes you arm, Let us find a place, yes? She gestures towards two open seats near the head of the table.

"Sounds good. Lets sit down"

I take a seat next to Calseinica. I am going to eat and drink light.

I'll describe each course. You tell me if you want to do anything in between or during.

7:00—The Feast of the Gluttonous Wolf: This course
consists of beef marrow fritters, boiled side of axebeak,
loach flavored with spices and sage, eels in jelly, and
smoked fillet of giant gar set in jellied aspic.

8:00—The Worshipful Hog: This course consists of
roast peacock, thick broth with salty strips of worg flank,
fresh chuul soup served with Chelish black bread, and a
roast dire boar of such size that it takes 12 bearers to bring
it into the Garden.

9:00—The Fat of the Land: This course consists
of honey-roasted hogfish, venison, sturgeon, and
lampreys in hot sauce. In addition, a vast caravan
of fruits and breads, olives, jars of curious
pickles, huge stuffed peppers, figs, dates and
honeycombs is offered as well.

10:00—The Dance of the Engorged
Vulture: This course consists of whole
roast baby squid served with honey
sauce, minted lamb with fresh
vegetables, sauced hatchling
alligator, tureens of cod spawn
in garlic, and leveret stewed
in wine and parsley.

11:00—The Ambrosial
Serpents: A particularly
unsettling course that
involves the guests
eating live serpents
that have been gorged
on drugged mice
and other mind-altering
substances.

12:00—The Insatiable
Hungers: This last “course”
consists of exotic tobaccos and
potent liquors.

I will make polite conversation with those around me.
Are other guests moving around and leaving the room during the dinner courses?
How is Calseinica doing? Any interaction between her and Delour?
If there comes a point during the dinner where everyone appears to be pretty intoxicated I will try to slip out to the stairs.

As sunset nears, just before the second course ends (about 7:45) General Vourne thanks the mayor for a delightful repast and then quickly excuses himself from the rest of the event, citing a need to return to his ship at the imperial marina before sundonw to prepare for the journey back north to Egorian the next morning. You notice that after he leaves, what was an imperceptible pall over the Cornucopia fades and the rest of the evening is even more filled with laughter and revelry.

After the third course Chammady Drovenge wishes the other guests a good evening and calls for her carriage-the fact that she rides back home after dark wihthout apparent care for the shadow beasts becomes the favorite topic of discussion among most of the nobles for the remainder of the hour, with most whispering of how those Drovenges "always were something of fools."

Calseinica does fine and you are surprised to see here cozy up to Delour and make some polite conversation the exchange several self congratulatory toasts and Delour goes on and on about how sad it is that Calseinica's face, and career, are ruined. Calseinica never flinches or reacts, but rather accepts and embraces the commiseration.

By the mid-point of the insatiable hungers course you feel that the assembled guests (and staff), with the exception of Calsienica, are to far gone to notice anything, much less your departure.

Calsienica sees you eyeing the comatose crew, Go and do whatever it is that you came here to do. I'll ask you no questions about your business as long as you return the favor. She then gives you a passionate kiss on the mouth and looks away.

"Your acting is excellent, I could easily believe that you and Delour are fast friends. See you later."
I will head for the stairs and see if I can find the Asmodean Knot. I will use my Hat of Disguise to change my appearance to mimic that of one of the staff.

You make your way out of the banquet hall, through the garden, and up the 1-2=North 3-4=South 1d4 ⇒ 3 SOUTH stairs.

They lead to a large open space with polished hardwood floors that appears to serve as a ballroom, although not for this event. It spans across to the North where you can see the other set of stairs as well as two doors set close to one another. Closer to you on the South side is a door in the SW corner and one in the SE corner. There is also a door in the E wall.

I will make my way to the North where the 2 doors close to each other are located. I will look for traps and then open the door that is to the right (believe that should be to the east?).
