Anchard Wulfphear |
"Aye, let's get going. We can discuss matters of interest along the way. We may want to discuss how we wish to address ourselves as a whole and discuss tactics prior to our first engagements." Anchard says flatly.
Perhaps discuss our roles in and out of combat as well. Our destiny was foreseen so establishing a level of faith and trust in each other should not only be an option, but also a requirement?
Zulan Khoza |
Zulan looked at the false red hair the young princess had placed over her head. It was at least something. "The colour may be enough to give some pause, Anna." Zulan made sure to call her by her assumed name so he would not forget to as they travelled on the quest.
Beza looked at the young princess and registered her scent well. Animals were not so readily fooled by such trickery.
At Shavel's call to ready and move out, Zulan nodded and gave Aumia a pat on the neck. The hunter's eyes briefly met his tiger companion's gaze before stating, "Let us go."
And to Anchard's request to converse as they moved, Zulan gave another nod. His people did not talk so much, especially out hunting or scouting. This was new to him, but he would try to fit in with these people and their strange ways.
Mileana |
"People tend to not really notice what they're not expecting. If nobody is expecting her to be out on the road with a motley group like us..." Mileana grins and nudges her horse with her heels. Starting to move and head out for the gates and the roads beyond, with a cheerful smile.
Zulan Khoza |
What order are we riding out? I know Shavel and Mileana are each in front of the horses pulling the carts. Anyone have a problem with Zulan riding before the princess/Anna, using his survival skill to guide and also his physical presence to protect/shield the princess?
Anchard Wulfphear |
Sounds alright to me Zulan, I'll ride along side of her when I can, and just behind her when I can not, and protect our flanks. Additionally, when we travel overland Ill have Ihudraar fly about 800 meters ahead to convey feelings of anything that might be ahead. For a while Ihudraar won't be much use until we get further from town away from normal civilian traffic but out in the styx it'll give us advance notice.
Mileana |
I'm assuming that the two carts are either trailing in the rear or close to it. I have no problem with Zulan being the point man so to speak. The princess should be near the middle, perhaps Anchard to give support from a central position.
Mileana will keep an eye out as well, when on the road, of course. Perception: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (11) + 6 = 17
Zulan Khoza |
Upon Zulan's hand gesture and single command, Beza moved readily behind the young princess and would follow from there, keeping pace and training her eyes for any signs of trouble.
Beza's Perception: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (2) + 6 = 8 Yup, the dice bot hates me in all my games of late.
Beza can work with Anchard from the flank position, if that is okay? Good plan re the familiar.
Zulan took point, sitting tall on Aumia and surveying the land, using all his skill to guide them forward safely.
Survival: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (14) + 10 = 24
Wendell Almant |
Perception: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (6) + 6 = 12
"Combat?" Wendell was a bit obtuse to Anchard's line of thought. "We come out alive however we can. How complicated do you expect this to be? There's not legions to maneuver." It was clear this was not the chef's line of expertise.
Anchard Wulfphear |
"There may not be legions yet, but coming out alive is only secondary to the mission's success. We must act as a singular unit instead of five or six individuals and not just when faced with physical threat, but in matters of etiquette and socialization as well. This requires unquestioning faith in each other's decisions in the moment, and we would be wise to establish a leader as well as other positions so each one of us knows precisely who to look to for answers pertaining to treasury, communications, etcetera, etcetera... There will often be opportunities for discussion on what course of action we may take, as well as votes, but there will be times when we must seize control and can not waste time on debate- these times are why we need to know in advance who is tasked with what." Anchard answers long windedly.
As a side note there will inevitably be a time when we already control a situation, but our foes will seek to control subtly. This is often observed when our questioning only gets us questions instead of answers. Often many fall for the ruse and answer out of confidence or ignorance. I advise strongly against this poor practice. We do not submit to questioning unless we surely gain from surrendering information, or we are completely not in control.
Wendell Almant |
Hearing him out, Wendell nods. "Well, I agree we must act united." He was usually a chattier person, but these were people he wouldn't have the opportunity to gossip about for a while, so his lips were a bit tighter. And maybe he does have a few other points. The witch seemed sensible to him.
Shavel Gysselylth |
"I agree, we do need to have faith with each other, though we should also describe, therefore, what we feel we are best at in this case. As for a leader, I think we should wait on that. At least until we better know and understand each other."
He looks back towards the princess and then the party once more. "Might I suggest a body guard position for Anna. Not so much to constantly be near her, but to draw attention away from her in bad situations." He then coughs and speaks up again. "My specialty is with my blade, but I blend elven magics with it. A subtle but highly powerful dance of the arts."
Dias-Lewis |
As the group moves along the road, it's pretty uneventful for the first 5 hours of travels.
Bandits stealth: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (20) + 2 = 22
Bandit Leader stealth: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (7) + 2 = 9
<I'm giving those who didn't roll a 10 to perception>
There's a rustling in a nearby bush, and you can see a yellow piece of clothe moving. It looks like you might be walking into an ambush, it's obvious that this person is trying to hide.
Please roll initiatives
Zulan Khoza |
Zulan's Initiative: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (4) + 7 = 11 Honestly, my rolls of late are not so great ...
GM Dias, how are you wanting initiative played out for companions? Move on Zulan's initiative or roll separate initiative for Beza?
Anchard Wulfphear |
Initiative: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (17) + 2 = 19
Dias, as a suggestion, gm rolling initiative for everyone at once makes initial combat essier to manage.
Armed person in the bushes ahead. The way he or she is eyeing us would imply some heinous intent. I doubt he or she is alone...
Shavel Gysselylth |
Shavel looks at Anchard and then towards the bushes. His hand goes to his blade and then at the party. He slows his steed and takes a position closer to the princess. "If they try anything, my blade is ready..."
Anchard Wulfphear |
Anchard tries to get a feel for the surrounding scene to plan on how to approach the situation...
looking for either a description of the scene or a map or more elaboration. Is it possible to avoid the bandit? Maybe we can out flank them. If not available, then I suppose I'll ready an action to sleep the bandit after he gets attacked by an y of my allies.
Wendell Almant |
Initiative: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (9) + 2 = 11
"Hmm? What's that?"
Dias-Lewis |
Next time I'll grab a map for everyone, this time though, it's impossible to avoid the bandit, he's got buddies
Turn
Anchard
Mileana
Arianna
Shavel
Zulan
Wendell
Bandit(s)
An arrow goes whizzing by Wendell's head and lands behind him.
"Fork over all your goods and maybe we'll let you live," Comes a voice from the bushes on the other side of the road.
Anchard Wulfphear |
I'm unsure exactly what forking has to do with anything, but you are all welcome to take my goods. You help yourselves.
Mileana |
A soft laugh from Mileana and a wicked little smile touches her lips. "I don't have a pitchfork... I'm not a stablehand. But I think it would be a much better idea for you to try and find easier prey and simply let us pass." Drawing her horse, and the cart as well at the same time, she glances to the side. "Rygas. Off the cart now."
Following the command, Rygas clambers off the cart and stands next to it, the only sounds made that of the metallic tinkle of armor.
On the off chance that there may be some merit to it, attempting to back up my suggestion to the bandits with a bit of Diplomacy. Mileana's feat gives a +4 racial bonus to diplomacy against humans. Not knowing what the bandits are, I won't calculate that into the roll.
Diplomacy: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (11) + 9 = 20
Zulan Khoza |
Zulan dismounted Aumia -- his golden eyes staring into the bush where the voice came from.
He nocked an arrow in his longbow and pointed it in the same direction.
"It is best you allow us to pass." There was a hard edge to the hunter's voice.
Intimidate: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (13) + 1 = 14
"Beza."
The tiger drew closer to Zulan and lifting her head, sniffed the air around/before the bushes.
Perception via scent ability: 1d20 + 14 ⇒ (9) + 14 = 23
Dias-Lewis |
"W-We'll uh let you pass," Came the one from the bush nearby that it was obvious that he was there. He stood up, his hands up as he walked towards the middle of the road.
deception: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (4) + 2 = 6
Everyone please roll sense motive.
The others though come out and grab him by his shoulder.
"We're going to let them pass Darien, just let them pass, we don't need trouble from this troupe, we'll just get the next one," One of the females stated, she was an elf.
Anchard Wulfphear |
sense motive: 1d20 ⇒ 16
"You attack us, and your group will be at war with the Red Raven of Black River Anchard laughs impetuously. Now if you all want to walk away from this with both legs, you'll give us your goods."
Bluff: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (19) + 5 = 24 Trying to make them think they are really messing with the wrong group.
Anchard is still readying his slumber ability but this time he'll use it on the first one that tries to attack the party. So the first one that attacks needs to make a Will save DC 17 or falls asleep.
Mileana |
At last Mileana climbs down off of her horse as well. Taking her scythe in hand and smiling far too merrily for the circumstances. "Yes, Zulan... They lie. How disappointing. I had hoped they would wish to live."
Hefting her scythe in both hands, she starts to walk slowly towards the man who has broken cover and the female(s) with him, Rygas walking silently at her side, sword and shield at the ready. Not charging, but beginning to move in that direction.
Dias-Lewis |
“Darian lies, we do not, we don’t wish to fight,” The female seemingly leader stated before pushing Darian forward.
((No point to do sense motive, they don’t get plusses))
“If you want to deal with this fool for us, he’s been leading us around like a babbling idiot, don’t get me wrong, we have our priorities but we know when we’re out matched, and we surely don’t wish to start a war, we’ll be on our why, with or without Darian,” The woman stated, the other five bandits who weren’t being idiots.
Darian, the bandit wearing a yellow bandana who had initially seemed like the leader of the crew pulled out his sword.
“Screw you five, I’m going to try and take these guys down!” He screamed out.
The five who had turned sides so to speak walked off into the brush leaving him truly alone.
Arianna Coniera |
"... Darian, you're outnumbered, 1 to 6, maybe you should surrender," Arianna said before she hopped off of her horse and pulled out her mace.
"I don't want to have to hurt you, but if it comes down to it, I will."
Anchard Wulfphear |
Anchard laughs, "You're kidding me, right?"
Anchard attempts to slumber hex Darian, will save DC17.
If Darian falls asleep Anchard will ride his horse over to stand adjacent to him. Ride stay in saddle DC 5: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (3) + 3 = 6
Shavel Gysselylth |
Shavel, bewildered at how he had come so close to believing the man, believe it to have been some spell cast upon his person. He prepares to assault the rather insane man before Anchard hits him with the sleep hex.
"Well, others should have their fun as well." He steadies himself, ready to attack if the man fights the hex and stays awake.
Wendell Almant |
Wendell didn't much follow the turn of events. Why in the many hells would he come forward like that? Perhaps there's some internal struggle with his kin there...
Assuming the sleep hex takes hold:
"Well, what are we going to do with this sot? He's heavy, and we really shouldn't be weighed down." He took an ounce of pity on him though - giving up those kind couldn't be easy. "But we can't just leave him here."
Mileana |
Since Mileana and Rygas were already walking towards the bandit leader, it's only natural for them to move to the attack. Though, of course, Mileana lets her silent companion attack first. The two of them splitting apart, to attempt to attack from opposite sides, or at least flank from one of the other attackers.
Attempting to flank, adding the +2 in to attack rolls. If unable to flank, please adjust the end result accordingly.
Rygas Attack: 1d20 + 2 + 2 ⇒ (12) + 2 + 2 = 16
If Rygas Hits: 1d8 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 2 = 4
Mileana Attack: 1d20 + 1 + 2 ⇒ (18) + 1 + 2 = 21
If Mileana hits: 2d4 + 1 ⇒ (1, 4) + 1 = 6
Zulan Khoza |
Seeing a number of his companions now surrounding the bandit leader and providing ample cover, Zulan did not fire his arrow. Instead he moved to the princess' side to protect/shield her. (Total Defense, standard action, +4 dodge bonus to your AC for 1 round. Zulan's AC currently 20)
Zulan commanded Beza to attack.
The tiger moved forward and attacked, savagely biting into the man.
Bite Attack: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (18) + 2 = 20
Damage, if hits: 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (5) + 1 = 6
Anchard Wulfphear |
Anchard is a squishy caster and in no way would have left himself open to the bandit's reckless charge like that. He would have to provoke several attacks to get past at least Shavel, Beza, Mileana, and Rygas (the several people that approached him). Regardless, I'll take the damage, but it's under protest.
Anchard Wulfphear |
So the bandit ran around Shavel, Zulan, and Mileana and hit Anchard? I'm sorry but I'm pretty sure the opportunity attacks he would have provoked would have hurt him if not killed him before he got close. Anchard was still on a horse in the back of the group while everyone else was up front pointing weapons at the bandit. I'll take the damage, but it's under protest...
Anchard cringes at the shocking attack that nearly rendered him unconscious. He pulls his longsword and drives it at the bandit.
