Deneb of the Word |
Deneb shrugs slowly, signing in response " We have enough coin that the expense for a day isn't going to trouble us. All we would need is one person who works for or likes the barkeep to point us out and we would have more attention than we needed. "
No objections here. sounds fine.

I nod, "Then let's get going." I again start walking the way we came through town, pretty sure we passed an inn on the way to the docks.

As you move through the city you begin to notice things. The streets hold several men in full armor moving around warily. You also hear that a lord has come visiting and brought with him a large amount of forces. You do your best to blend in before reaching the tavern. It's called the Jade lion, going in you notice there are many tables to the side where various men are eating, in the corner one man has a wheel set up playing games of chance, a rather busty maiden is moving throughout the room while a bartender pours everything from tea to sake over to the side.
Valdis Nimua |
Do I recognize the soldiers, like do they have a coat of arms on their armor/banners that I may have seen in the past 48 hours?
[Possible insertion of a later post]
Going into the Jade Lion my eyes scan the room, lingering for a bit too long on the serving girl before I catch myself and look away blushing. I sigh and walk over to the man at the bar. "Excuse me, but... we'd like to rent a room." Looking back at Deneb and Darkshade for a second before turning back, "With two beds if that is at all possible."
Valdis Nimua |
I look back to them again quickly then turn back to the man, "Our folks are at home. We've been staying with our grandfather and our ship stopped here to resupply. The captain said we likely wouldn't be able to leave for a few days because he's waiting for some sort of special cargo or something. I dunno. But we're tired of cramped quarters and the rocking of the boat. A nice bed on solid land would be a welcome change, we haven't been sleeping well." I rub my eyes and stifle a yawn.
Bluff: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (18) + 6 = 24

The man grunts. Can't blame you for that. Last time I was on a boat I was hanging over the side. It's half a gold. You kids want something to eat?
Generally speaking if you wanted something to eat at an establishment like that you brought the ingredients yourself. And sorry for forgetting to answer, no they weren't bearing any standards are marks on their armor.
Valdis Nimua |
I take a few silver pieces out of my belt pouch and hand them to the man behind the counter as him and Darkshade talk. After he motions for us to follow, "I'm not all that hungry, the boat upset my stomach and I'd rather not waste food. Perhaps a drink though? Tea?" I set my pack next to me as I lower myself into a seated position on the floor, glancing at the serving girl pouring tea across the room, blushing anew. "Yes, tea I think."
No clue how old you meant the waitress to be, but I'm assuming late teens to 20's or so here.
Deneb of the Word |
It kind of makes sense for Deneb to leave his monkey outside and let it sneak in through a window or something. Though once we get settled he will likely get sent out to look for Ai.
Deneb had said little letting others more skilled in the arts of deceit make the initial impressions. The mage feeling a bit underdressed without his companion. Seating himself at the table with Valdis
" I'm ready to sleep in a bed soon, Tea does sound nice though. If you have them some fruit or vegetables would be nice. I'm really tired of fish for nearly every meal."
the young one states with a sour exression as he follows Valdis's gaze and ends up perplexed.
I'm figuring Deneb is ignorant of the opposite genders attraction at this point in his life. Becoming a competent mage at this young an age has delayed his progress and understanding in other aspects of life.
Valdis Nimua |
I had meant he was pulling 2 copper out of his pouch.
I set the coins on the side of the table before taking a look around the room, eyes yet again lingering on the serving girl before my attention gradually falls on the man with the wheel. I shake my head, dismissing the notion as losing money for nothing before we have income is probably a bad idea.
Looking once more at the man taking our order, the owner I assume, "I don't suppose a girl around my age came in here earlier alone?"
Valdis Nimua |
I sigh as I pick up my tea, "I guess she went back to the boat. If a girl does come in looking for us," I pause to take a sip of the hot liquid, "could you let us know?"
Valdis Nimua |
I motion to Deneb and Darkshade in turn, "Danny, Sarah and Lance," I finish off motioning to myself. "Though, I don't know if she'll remember our names, I'm honestly too tired to remember her's. We only talked for awhile, but," I look down at what I'm wearing and give a slight motion around the table, "I'm sure it would be hard to not remember enough to describe us."
Rule number 1, keep things vague.
Valdis Nimua |
Uh... "Mom and Dad" are dozens of miles away as far as the people here know, and I was under the impression we already rented a room. Why would we not stay here at least long enough to sleep?
Valdis Nimua |
Whether you two paid for a room or not, I did. And I understand you are role-playing your character but you still just contradicted the story I gave the person we've been talking to.
I drink my tea as my tired mind finally starts to relax. "You can leave if you want, I'm going to sleep." I down the rest of my tea, take one last look at the serving girl and walk up to Saito. "If I could get the key to the room, I don't feel like waiting for them to finish eating to turn in."
Valdis Nimua |
I let out a sigh as I push myself back off the bed and sling my bow off my back, leaning it against the side of the bed near the headboard, setting the quiver next to it. I set my pack on the bed and sift through it a bit, pulling out my tekko-kagi and placing it under the covers next to where I'll be sleeping, on the far side from the door.
I start to remove my clothes to take off my armor before second guessing myself thanks to Darkshade's increased paranoia. I instead cross the room and lock the door, then shut the curtains to block as much of the sunlight as I can. I kick off my boots and just crawl under the covers, pulling them over my head in an effort to block out even more of the light.
I'll never understand women.
Deneb of the Word |
Deneb manages to mostly restrain himself when eating. The desire to just devour the entire meal in a few massive bites looming. The young man keeping a half slice of fruit before giving the area a quick glance to the bark and sidling over to Darkshade. Deneb using the proximity to hide his signing from others.
I don't much think we can stay here for longer than a day but we were exhausted enough to lose track of Ai today while talking to a beggar-thief. The longer we stay like this the higher the chances we have of being revealed. I was going to send Hanu to look for signs of Ai while we slept but I can have him stay and watch over us instead."
