If you will permit a bit of rewinding, between Diarmal's and Nathaniel's lines, Sasithorn explains the story as he understands it, about "Kantov's Bane" and how the entity in question was Iekah. If there's nothing more to be said after that, then he, too, will find a room for the night.

Ribat stares blankly at the sky after hearing Paulina's story. When Nathaniel makes his suggestion, Ribat says, "Sleep? That's the best idea I have heard all night! I know my swamps, and I know how to turn a profit in the darkwood business, but this talk of other worlds? Well, maybe it will make more sense after I sleep on it. Until the morn, sirs and madams."

Friday Morning, in the town of Connie’s Bright

It is a cool morning, with grey cloudy skies.

The night before a group of people who had met for the first time, not bothering to make any plans, went off each on their own and found a place to sleep for the night.

The beach has been cleared of the zombies and skeletons that attacked the night before.

It is a new day.

Tessrimea wakes up early, and is careful not to wake Nathaniel and Paulina. It turned out, after Tessrimea asked Paulina bout the possibility of there being no rooms available in the inn, what with all those strangers from the ship that arrived late last night all needing a room, that Paulina had a spare room in her home here in the town and offered it to Tess and Nathaniel.

Nathaniel had been a perfect gentleman and insisted that Tess sleep in the small bed, while he slept on the floor.

When she finished her morning meditations, Tess searched through Paulina’s kitchen and found a few vegetables and some cheese, eggs and bread in the pantry in a strange tall white box that was sealed and maintained a cool temperature inside. Obviously this Dwarven woman had access to some powerful magic, what with this strange ice box and her remembering flail.

Nathaniel rose when he smelled the spices and aroma of toasted bread, and Paulina soon was up as well.

When the three had finished their morning meal, it was Tess who was the first to broach the difficult subject of what was going to be the next thing they planned to do

I’m not sure if we should try to contact the others we met last night, or set out on our own. But I think, the first thing we need to do is follow the trail of those monsters back into the moor to try and find out where they came from and who sent them.

Friday Morning, in the town of Connie’s Bright (Day 1)

Two Barrels Tavern is opened for business. Nigel is seated at a table in the corner, and he is being cared for by his niece, Kathryn.

Meanwhile, Nigel’s nephew, Kelly, supervises a crew of young boys who are cleaning up the floor and serving trays of morning rolls, jams, jellies, cooked eggs and ham, to those few people up bright and early (mostly local men and women who make a living by catching fish, or collecting lobsters and crabs). Two women sit at a table and discuss, loudly, the loss of one of their boats to a mysterious fire.

Ribat and Xor arrive and decide to sit together and take a small meal. The coffee is hot and full of flavor, with an aroma that hints at cinnamon and orange.

Nigel insists that Kelly serve the two without charging them for anything, other than the coffee (which is a rare imported delicacy) and a full pot will cost them two silver pieces.

Well, before we do anything stupid, I think we should check in on Nigel. Then pick up some supplies, and find someone who can track Zombies or Skeletons,Paulina says.

One thing is certain. What I've told the two of you, is going to get me into trouble, eventually, and probably put before a review board, which means I can kiss any promotion this year goodbye. Unless we can gather some hard evidence about the nature of these inter-dimensional incursions, I'm screwed.

Nathaniel looks sideways at Tessrimea, and then smiles at Paulina, and says, Maybe it would be better if you said these things to yourself, for a while. I don’t want to see you, or anyone get into trouble with the people we are supposed to be working on behalf of or for the good of, but honestly, Paulina, I’ve got no idea what you are talking about half the time.

He checks his gear, and then marches to Paulina's front door and says with a smile, Let's get over to Two Barrels, and then we'll make a plan from there.

The morning light seems to withdraw significantly from the stairway as Sasithorn finally makes his way down to breakfast (he'd been looking forward to seeing it less than it would have been to see him - the Wayang do not normally operate on quite the same schedule as more light-loving races, but a diplomat learns to compromise). He spots Ribat and Xor, and the shadow that had up till now centered on the stairs passes briefly over the bar as he makes his way to their table. He takes a seat and gives them an unexpectedly bright smile.

Marvin does not know how they found themselves to be using a musket and gunpowder, nor that it was not supposed to work, but they put that question in the background for the meantime.

The android had arrived in the Two Barrels Tavern for sustenance earlier, waking in the inn nearby precisely after the required rest hours. Already finished with their breakfast, a light meal containing everything required for ongoing optimal operation and shunning the coffee in favor of fruit juice, Marvin waits.

Eventaully, some of the others arrive, and the android invites them to share the table. They do the same for anyone else new arriving, but does not start any conversation, creating an awkward atmosphere unless someone else speaks up.

Diarmal sleeps far longer than he had expected - perhaps the night before had taken more out of him than he'd thought, or the unexpected arrival of his cousin had kept his mind active and wandering through the night. Even his dreams were strange, thoughts of living shadows and blinding light - and, perhaps most worrying - a disconnection from Lady Aisling. That moment stuck with him, even more than the strange things that Paulina had spoken of.

What could possibly disconnect a goddess from the material world?

After gathering his things, and hurries to the Two Barrels Tavern, hoping that nothing too important had happened in his absence. He walked in just as Sasithorn gave a wide smile.

Sasithorn wrote:
The adventure of an era, possibly?

Matching the man's smile, Diarmal joined his new companions at the table. Regretfully, he didn't see his cousin among them. His heart sank. Was fate so cruel as to part two newly rejoined kinsmen? He could only pray Aisling would see their paths interwoven once more.

"Adventure, you say? It certainly seems as though we've all stumbled into something far greater than we could have ever imagined - and I, for one, am wholeheartedly aboard. But where do we even begin?"

Day 1, Friday, Morning, Two Barrels tavern

Ribat and Xor enjoy a few moments of quiet, contemplating the strange events and where life might take them next, when Nathaniel, Paulina, and the beautiful Tessrimea enter the tavern. Nigel, offers more food, and leaves the five of you alone.

When Nathaniel has finished expressing his confusion about Paulina, he fills his plate and takes a cup. He fills the cup half way with coffee, and then adds another half of a cup of cream. Paulina watches this and asks him, ”Do you always drink your coffee with that much cream?”
Nathaniel takes a deep drink from the cup and says, ”Usually. I love the taste of coffee, but it wrecks my digestion something awful.”

Paulina pours a full cup of the aromatic and dark coffee, smells the steam rising from the cup, and says, ”Ah, this place has the best coffee in the galaxy. I just hope that word doesn’t get out.”

Nathaniel smiles, but his eyes show he is as puzzled as always by her strange comments.

Sasithorn enters the tavern, followed closely by the coppery haired individual called Marvin.

Sasithorns mood is light but Marvin seems distracted, his attitude almost coming off as aloof.

Diarmal arrives just in time to hear Sasithorn mention the possibility of an adventure. When Diarmal inquires as to where they might start, the table is quiet, only for a moment, until the taciturn Marvin quips, ”With breakfast.”

Tessrimea giggles and Nathaniel beams a smile.

”With breakfast indeed,” Nathaniel says filling his plate again. As he pokes at well cooked eggs, and breaking bits of bacon with his fork, he looks around at the few people gathered at the table.

”Maybe introductions would be in order. We all got to meet in dark and perilous circumstances the night before, but let’s get to know each other better, and see what kind of commitment we are willing to make. First off, My name is Nathaniel Artegal Boote, and I’m from the town of Wellspring, that’s in Eshia, near the north fork of the Blossom River. I’m on a leave of absence from my duties as a Guard of the Tomb of the Lady of Mittonwir, among my kin this is a great honor, and the leave I’ve taken is granted to young men and women in my place to seek out , well, I don’t need to go on about myself. I came here following my older brother, Thomas, Tommy Boote, when I heard he had a run in with the Blackwater Bullywugs who live west of here. Since I came to this town I’ve heard some terrible rumors, but no word about Tommy. I’ve spoken to the Shire Reeve in this town, and he strikes me as a man who won’t approve of us taking matters into our own hands. This is troubling for me, as I a man who has dedicated himself to the law, but maybe the group of us can sway him, make him see reason. I’m all for us going together in an expedition into the moors of Blackwater and the Shadow Moor, as what I’ve heard is it is not a safe place for individuals or even small groups. There’s strength in numbers, and we count as, one two, three…” he points around the table at each of you, ”Eight, a good lucky number.”

NPC: F Dwarf (?)

”Well,” Paulina says leaning back in her chair, ”As I was saying before the rest of you arrived. I’m already committed. I need to get information, and normally I’d try to do that on my own, but with there already being so many cats out of the bag, I’m in with the rest of you. My name is Paulina Southmiller, and I was born on Lighthouse, that’s a space sta… never mind. I’m not from around here, okay. I’ve got some experience with tracking in the wilderness, some survival training, and some skills in recognizing dangerous plants and animals. I’d like to say I’ve got access to some gear that we might need, but I’m going to have to give that some careful thought before I make a decision. I don’t want to end up on prison barge for four to ten years because I thought we needed a camp stove.”

Tessrimea looks pained for a moment, then lowers her head and says softly, ”There was a woman, a girl, in my family, many years ago, who ran away from home, because she felt her parents did not understand her. She found herself dancing, for money, and singing in a tavern very much like this one, on the north coast of Vologna. There were, people, bad people, they are known to your kind as Yaun-ti, but to our people we know them by other names, names we don’t like to speak. There has always been, trouble between our kinds. We, the Gymnagaopthians, are lizard-folk, while the Yaun-ti are snake-folk. The differences are subtle, but important. You see, there was a Yaun-ti woman, a priestess, who desired this Gymnaga girl, as a lover, and in order to keep her people safe from harm, the Gymnaga girl fled. She would have been given, as a bride to the Yaun-ti, by her parents, if she stayed, and some of my people have said that this would have been not such a terrible thing. But, anyway, this Gymnaga girl fled, to Vologna, and lived there for a while, until, until the Yaun-ti priestess came to the village, and in her anger at being denied, she killed a lot of innocent people who were trying to protect the Gymnaga girl.”

Tess straightens up, and then speaks with more conviction. ”I have joined an order of followers of our goddess dedicated to protecting the memory of this Gymnaga girl, and as a way of showing our remorse for the suffering of the Volognans, we are, as priests and priestesses dedicated to helping people in need, people searching for lost relatives, and people trying to stop oppression. I came here looking for a purpose. Nathaniel, I will help look for your brother, and Paulina, I will help you find your answers. Purpose, has found me.”

Diarmal solemnly bows his head at the recitation of Tessrimea's tale.

"Then it sounds as though you and I have much in common, Tessrimea. I am unsure if everyone got my name in the chaos last night - I am of the Illsutra clan, the nomad priest Diarmal. I hail from the lands of the Drasbians, a land of highlands and moors, clan and honor. I could never imagine letting a kinsman suffer a tutelage hardly differentiable from slavery. You and your people have done her memory a great honor, and I am sure she knows this - wherever her soul now rests."

He pauses, looking over the table at Paulina. His head starts a slow, instinctive shake as he ponders her tale. "And you're a strange one, lass. But I respect ye spirit, too." And so it was I made my way to the lands of the Basconde, where I was invited, perhaps as a sort of exotic party favor, to the wedding festivities of..." Sasithorn's voice starts trailing off, and a strange look comes to his eyes. "...and the boat...and the...did anyone else survive?...and those paraelementals..." the party now has a Bag of Holding, who will carry it?

Day 1, Friday: turn 80

In just a short while a small group of strangers gather at a bridge west of the village.

It is a simple bridge, the supports in the creek are made of natural, not worked, but well fitted stones, and the bridge itself is made of strong wooden planks.

Across the bridge, to the west are a few small farms and homesteads, with fences for cows and pigs, and then just a little beyond that lies the land known as the Shadow Moor

The Shadow Moor is a inhospitable place of tall heavy leafed trees dripping with vines and mosses, pools of brackish water, and streams that wander in impossible to map courses. The land is mostly flat, but there are small hills scattered throughout the Moor, and it is said that there are even ruins out there.

Ruins, they say, that date back to a time when there was a river, further to the west that carried the runoff of the mountain rain and snow to the shore and the land here was dry. But the River bed rose, no one knows why, and the waters flowed across the fields turning the once dry and fertile land into a cold swampy expanse that stretches for dozens of miles to the north and is almost six miles wide.

But what are those ruins? Some say there is a castle ruin out there, others say no, that it was a walled town, while still others claim the ruins are several small watch towers once inhabited by ancient Elven Clans.

Nathaniel, Tess, and Paulina, join Sasithorn, Diarmal, Ribit, Xor, and Marvin as they cross the bridge, with no particular marching order. To any casual observer they resemble a lose band of friends heading out into the country.

Your Adventure begins now! There are no paths, no roads, but the way toward the Shadow More is impossible to miss. Finding the trail of the monsters that attacked the night before is your first challenge

A band of really weird friends. Whoever has to carry the bag of holding I recommend stay away from close combat. Marvin can carry it unless we decide someone else should.

Marvin looks around, assessing the situation. "The attackers of the night before came from this direction. Confirm?"

First order of business is to find that trail of monsters and then the investigation of the murders at the moor. They came from the west, at least that's what I gathered from the map. We could ask the farms/homesteads if they noticed anything before continuing on. There were other side-quests too, I think. Those ruins just mentioned probably count as one.

Day 1, Friday: turn 81

The party walks at not to brisk a pace toward the west, pointing occasionally at the farm houses and fields, the different members of the group question each other about their knowledge of this area and it soon becomes clear that none of them has ever been here before.

Even Paulina admits she never tavelled this direction, but has been to the north of the village a few times.

Slowing their pace even more the group spreads out. They form a crude line from north to south and walk slowly, looking for clues.

Ribat:
Ribat, who is near the southern end of the line, spots a muddy patch of ground that bears the distinct imprint of skeletal feet. He stops, and examines the prints carefully, noting their depth and how wet the mud is around them, and he is certain that these were made the night before.

"I believe I have found something, friends. These appear to be skeleton footprints; I am certain that they were made by the creatures we encountered last night," Ribat says.

Do I just see one set of prints, or is there a line of prints to follow?

You have found a trail that you can follow

Ribat turns to face his companions. "Come on, let us go.". He then starts following the trail of footprints, his eyes alert for signs of trouble.

"Excellent!" Diarmal finds himself pleasantly surprised with the resourcefulness of the small frog-ish fellow. It reminded him a bit of Rydwen back when they were kids. She'd been able to follow a deer for days without losing its trail, and it always amazed him. If Lady Aisling had taken his kinsman off on another path, then he was glad to have crossed paths with Ribat.

"I agree, we'd best keep moving. There's no telling what's out here. Could be more of those beasties lurking about."

Perception: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (3) + 4 = 7
Diarmal is very helpful.

For the time being, his Eysterlun dissociative tendencies are demonstrating their upsides.

Survival is for following trails, I think.

Marvin also begins to track the trail, noting the characteristics of the imprints in the ground and calculating the direction of their owners.

I already rolled Survival to follow the trail; I intended the Perception check to be for noticing whatever might be around as we're following the trail.

Male, old, old, Male

as long as everyone realizes you move at a slow pace when following a trail, okay. Now, the trail leads past the out lying settlements of the village, and into the Moor proper. You will follow it for several hours, and late in the afternoon you will come within sight of a ruin on a low hill in the moor. You will see the ruin from a good distance and realize the trail leads to it. You can decide on a plan for approaching the ruin or sending scouts to sneak up on it to get a closer look

This will be the Discussion Thread for the adventure

“The Strangler of the Shadow Moor”

Here I’ll share details about the setting, and explain things that are happening in the Game Thread if there is confusion.

It would make me smile if the Players would use this thread to get to know one another’s characters, and talk to one another about questions they are thinking about.

Male Elf Cleric 4 | AC (17), T (12), FF (15) |HP: 29/29 (0 NL) | F +4, R +4, W +7 | Init +3, Perc +7 |CMD 16

Checking in. The player's Helio, and the character's Diarmal Illsutra.

Diarmal's a wandering priest of Desna. He's more of a noncombatant, support-type priest, who just seeks to bring a bit of peace and calm to an otherwise dangerous world. I imagine this gets him wrapped up into all kinds of trouble, of course. He's a little bit of a pacifist, and extremely loyal to his friends and family - he'd toss himself in front of the proverbial bullet for them.

Gameplay-wise, he'll probably focus on support spells and actions in combat, maybe dipping into teamwork feats that other people will find useful. If he actually does need to hurt something, he's got a bow. But with that poor strength score, I wouldn't hold out much hope for that.

@GDM: Does the elven goddess have a name? Even if we keep her mechanics the same as Desna for simplicity's sake, I feel really bad misnaming an entity in your setting. As someone who likes to write in their free time, I feel like I'm committing a crime!

Male, old, old, Male

I know I’m putting out a lot of nonsense here, please forgive me. My first goal with this game will continue to be to keep it light, and somewhat silly, but I realize some players like a bit of detail with their silly, so…

Drasbian Deities (this is a short description of the three Elven(Drasbian) Gods most commonly worshipped by “good” Drasbians)
Tarclughlin – the Older brother, Chaotic Good – the Hunter
Darvroan Nirish – the Younger brother, Lawful Good – The Hearth Master
Shailo Aisling* (or simply Aisling the Wise) – the young wife, Neutral Good – the luck winner, the secret keeper

*pronounced somewhat like “Ashley”

Also – everyone in this setting would be familiar with at least one Beauvingian God, and her name is Moloween Sonumb

There is a possibility that a Beauvingian or two will be around – they are arrogant, racist, and prideful. The Beauvingians see themselves as the most civilized people of the whole world (they can claim, rightly, that their empire is the oldest). They are built, in game terms, using the rules for “Half-Orcs” but there are no actual Half-Orcs as a player character race in this setting. (If you wanted something of the flavor of a Half-Orc without all the contentious “rape” references, you would be playing a Beauvingian).

Moloween Sonumb

also called:
The masked goddess
Keeper of secrets
The dream bearer
She who brings forth the truth
Justice
The uncontrolled heart
Punisher of the unfaithful

About Moloween:
Among the Gods, Goddesses, and other spirits worshiped on the world of Hamth, Moloween Sonumb is seeing the end of her power and influence drawing ever closer as people turn away from the old Gods to embrace the new.
Moloween is one of the truly ancient Goddesses, and some say perhaps the second oldest Goddess. Images and cultural references to the Dream Bearer are nearly as old as those of Hamth, the Mother Goddess of the world.
Moloween is normally portrayed as a female of perfect form, tall and imposing, but with facial features that are always changing depending on her mood. In art she is rendered as a Beauvingian woman, a “Zavarian”, or even at times a Human woman, with a billowing dress, and wearing either a mask that makes her appear beautiful, or hideously ugly. In her right hand she holds a rod, that signifies her aspect as a bringer of justice, and her left hand is swirled and obscured in a misty grey cloud.
She is seen as the entity responsible for dreams, both delightful, and painful, and in more primitive times when it was believed that the truth of a person’s convictions were revealed through their dreams, she was worshiped as the deity responsible for visiting upon folk who lied, cheated, or otherwise caused harm, the painful dreams of a guilty conscious.
She is also seen as the spirit who brings dreams of lust and desire, though she should not be confused with Whuloriel, the Goddess of Love (altruistic or true love). In some stories Moloween is portrayed as a lover scorned, or a woman who upon telling a great secret, usually her greatest desire, is betrayed, and as the story unfolds she is seen transforming from an innocent victim to a powerful enforcer of justice, not ultimate justice as seen in the forms of Haglod, the God of Death, but a form of justice in which the guilty is locked away from all human contact, or shunned. Sometimes the form of justice, or punishment she metes out takes the form of causing the guilty to become invisible, which at first appears to the guilty as a boon, but becomes a terrible burden as they realize that if no one can see them then they can never convince anyone they really exist (the story of Yamil and Theline is a story using this theme).
It is believed that there are still places where Moloween is revered as a protector, but mostly people invoke her name when they speak of bad or portentous dreams.

Female Elf Ranger 1

Hello! Here is Rydwen Illsutra, elven hunter of a highland clan. She is second cousin to Diarmal...though instead of his wanderings she feels it's only acceptable to remain with her "village" and do their will. Her branch of the family is remote and isolationist, and as a result her accent is even thicker than normal.

She is a swamp ranger specializing in bogs and other rainy/muddy "Scottish" places. Her affinities have some limited extension if the party ever finds themselves dealing with the oceans or water in other forms.

A proud hunter, she uses two-weapon fighting with some combination of her shortspears, net or dagger. She prefers her missile weapons thrown and feels bows and fireballs are cheating; she looks down upon things that do not take effort, particularly muscle effort. She wears wooden armor and a kilt; much of her gear looks barbarian style, except for a few random bits she scavenges here and there. As a Drasbian elf in GMD's Hamth she currently excels in swamp and mountain terrain, but does not yet have much sway in forests as traditional elfs do (just wanted to warn y'all!) Her country is one of unforgiving beauty.

She is rough, somewhat boisterous and very quick to anger. In fact, between her temper and her pride, she can easily get into a bad situation. She is not smart, but has wisdom about the natural world...or how she *thinks* others are supposed to act. While never blasmphemous, she feels Tarclughlin is the only god who "gets it" between his chaotic nature and his skill at the hunt.

I like to level by the dictates of the story, but the rough plan is that she'd gain feats, class talents and any spell selection dealing with 1) swamp terrain 2) net debuffs 3)animals, and the Intimidation there of. She sees hunting as a challenge, and herself as a winner: she's not the type to befriend a bear as much as, er...punch it in the face? Arm wrestle it?

EDIT: PS, I'm coming in through Option B!

Male, old, old, Male

Welcome Diarmal and Rydwn (hey Rydwen, I am a little touched at how seriously you are absorbing the setting, it makes me smile! And Diarmal, nice way to keep things within the setting while "borrowing" material useful and familiar to a lot of players, well done!)

Each of you can join the game now whenever you are ready, but please be patient with the rest of us if we are a bit slow. I am not pushing for people to post often, and I will post as well as I can to keep up with you, but you may have to cool your heels at times.
Okay?

Edit: Oh and one more thing. The Class Level box on your alias displays under your alias in the game threads, so a lot of players use it to keep important statistics handy for the DM. I like to see it filled out with this format

(class)/(level) | AC (x), T (x), FF (x) |HP: (full)/(current) | F(x), R(x), W(x) | Init(x), P(x) |CMD (x)

Female Elf Ranger 1

Hi, just to make sure I have this right...

What does T (x) stand for? I'm going to feel foolish once I hear, I know it.

FF (x) is for flat-footed? Is this the positive total without dodge, or the negative its loss tacks on? (ie, FF 13 or FF -3) I ask because I also know it penalizes both the AC and the CMD.

Is P (x) for perception?

Male, old, old, Male

T = Touch AC, FF is your Flat Footed AC, calculated with all relevant modifiers, should I catch you in a surprise round or some other situation where a monster attacks you before you've had a chance to act in the "combat" which is sometimes a bit awkward to pin down.

Being FF does not, at least the way I understand it, effect your CMD, but I'll do some home work on that one.

P is your perception bonus

EDIT: That was easy, in the PRD in the combat section, under CMD, it states that you do not add your Dex bonus to your CMD when Flat Footed, so list your standard FF AC, and your Standard CMD, and if the two come up at the same time, we'll cross that bridge when we come to it.

Female Elf Ranger 1

Ah! Touch, I should have known!

Male, old, old, Male

I'm going to jump over here and address Rydwen's comments in the game thread

Dice rolls - sometimes they are a bit wonky, but it usually does work out that whatever you put down, the first time, in a post, it is going to stay that way, so yes, you can get in the habit of "Previewing" your post, see what the roll will be, and then add text to describe how you would react to that roll. I do it all the time, and only on rare occasions am I surprised because something goes wrong.

Typically, you shouldn't need to worry about making any rolls unless you really feel you need to, because I will ask for them when it matters the most.

Male, old, old, Male

I will try to get a very basic map up (one that we used for the battle) tonight. Maps will always be a link set below the header of the thread, right after the short description of the game

Ribat is a fighter detailed by his clan to transport their darkwood exports. He tries to project an aura of confidence. He is rather unsure of himself, though, because the elders of his clan sent him out on this mission even though he hadn't finished his training (his predecessor, Krok, had well, you know, croaked ;)). He gets somewhat defensive when people compare him to Bullywogs. In combat, at least for now, he works with a kukri and a net.
As for the future, Ribat is going to multiclass into some kind of divine caster. Probably druid, since I see his religion more as an animistic, pantheist kind of thing than a formal, theistic thing (though, if what happens in the campaign gives him a reason to "get religion" in a more traditional sense, then cleric or inquisitor isn't out of the question).

Female Elf Ranger 1

@GDM Thanks for explaining! Also, I just bumped up my saving throws. I'd put them down for my class, but forgot to add the ability score bonus.

@Sarpadian Forgive my introduction entry here, I posted it before we spoke. I replaced Net Adept with "natural healing rate doubles in swamp." Huh. Wait. Actually...

@GDM I hadn't thought about that. Do you know how that feat might work in your campaign? (Anything is fine, as I need it as a pre-req for swampy things down the road lol)

Male, old, old, Male

I don't think I follow your question. Are you asking how the healing effects will be handled in game?

Female Elf Ranger 1

Whoops, sorry! :D I took a look back and couldn't find what I thought I saw; it must have belonged to a different game I was checking out. In it, instead of the normal sleep/rest rules for natural healing, the players healed like 1 an hour or something. I wasn't sure if my feat would change that in a swamp, but that was another game entirely!

Hi Felicia, I had originally posted my boat jump before the newer folks were finalized. So I've just been playing it like I was too absorbed in my own thoughts to notice anyone approach on the ship. Ryd's on a special mission from her clan to track down Diarmal and deliver a message to him, so I've just been spinning like she wants to do it as fast as possible so she can head back home. I'm actually pretty good with anything that happens to come up, though! I used to do this sort of thing in a real time chatroom back in college, and I never knew what someone was going to do next haha

Drasbian is Elven, right?

Male, old, old, Male

Yes

Male, old, old, Male

We've had some great introductions. Let's see if we can ease the new characters into the situation as it is unfolding in the tavern.

Oh, and I would like to suggest that players try to make sure they are clear about who they are talking to in the game thread, with so many PCs and a few NPCs about, it could be tricky and one misunderstanding could lead to a dialog that goes the wrong direction. I hope I can keep up with the rest of you

Any questions?

Edit: And one more thing - the game might look crowded, but honestly, right now there are only 7 active Player Characters (and there may be three more joining soon) but that's not an awful lot. The most I ever ran at a table game was 13

If anyone feels as if I have overlooked something about your character, or if anyone feels they are being ignored or stepped on, please send me a PM and I will try to fix the problem. Most importantly, try to have fun.

Greetings all and I hope we enjoy this game and all its strangeness.

Anyway, M.A.R.V.I.N. here! Android gunslinger. Feeling utterly responsible for the Sci-fi in the game, which went tongue-in-cheek with the game's initial not-very-serious atmosphere. I'm glad the GM decided to take this character on anyway, even if they have complicated the setting.

If you have any questions for how I treat Marvin, feel free to ask. As Marvin's information may be corrupted or incomplete, what they are saying may, in fact, be incorrect or utterly wrong. That is to say, GM trumps anything Marvin says.

I'd like to imagine that Diarmal's Drasbian is even more heavily accented than Rydwen's, as some kind of throwback to his heritage.

I'm not sure I have the scottish-word-skills to actually pull off anything better than Rydwen, though.

Android Gunslinger (Musket Master)/4 | AC 18, T 15, FF 13 | HP: 42/46 | F+5, R+8, W+3 | Init+6, P+11 | CMD 19

Heyo, Meero!

By the by, GM, are we required to take the third trait and drawback? Because if so, I have my eye on taking the Paranoid drawback. So I can be Marvin the Paranoid Android.

Additional note is that I usually take my sources from the PFSRD/OGC rather than the Paizo PRD, because the PRD lacks certain resources and because the PFSRD is easier to reference. For example, the Android race is located in the Inner Sea Bestiary which isn't included in the PRD but can be referenced in the PFSRD. I keep my choices limited to Pathfinder sources rather than 3rd party, however, and can reference the PRD instead if it exists there. If you prefer, I can limit all my sources to the PRD. One trait I took isn't in the PRD (Called, which I just searched) and can switch it out if you prefer.

Male, old, old, Male

I am not immediately opposed to pfsrd stuff, it is just that of the various machines that I use to post here, one of them does not "like" that website very much, making it harder for me to do my game homework. I think you character is well balanced for this adventure, so keep things the way they are, and add the third trait and drawback only if you want to.

Male, old, old, Male

Are you patient?

I am about to throw out what will be the biggest, maybe most complicated encounter I've ever tried in a pbp game.

I hope I don't screw it up, and I hope everyone will be patient with me and each other as we try to give everyone a chance to do something heroic.

I'll be introducing two more PC's (if they are ready) so hold onto your hats.

Also, help an old school guy understand a rule better if you can. If I have a monster that can channel negative energy, can I channel one round to heal creatures with negative energy affinity and then in the next round channel to do harm to regular enemies?

Android Gunslinger (Musket Master)/4 | AC 18, T 15, FF 13 | HP: 42/46 | F+5, R+8, W+3 | Init+6, P+11 | CMD 19

Yes. Channeling energy works by either healing or harming and can only do one of those at a time (unless you're using a variant channel or something).

I sure hope we can handle it. I have bad experiences with anything channeling negative energy. Near-TPK experiences and one of my characters died from it.

Male, old, old, Male

I think channel neg in an enclosed encounter area can be very deadly, I'm hoping the outside setting will mitigate some of the serious danger, but ack! I'm giving too much away

Male, old, old, Male

I just put up a link to a map called "Scarry map for players only" this shows the "Horde" of monsters now about to cross the creek into Connie's Bright. None of you can see them, yet, but once outside of the Tavern you can hear a low distant droning sound coming from that direction, an updated combat map will be linked above when it is time to roll initiative.

Try not to Metagame too awfully much, think of it as me taking a bunch of miniatures out of my "tote" and setting them up and telling you, as players, "you don't see these yet."

Female Elf Ranger 1

Sorry, meant to say on my Perception check that I'm using hearing only, not trying to see in the darkness. Ryd assumes it's some natural bug swarm instead of any alien teleporty things.

About that magical "void:" My magic (you can refer to pages 109-111 here) is fundamentally different from other forms. Depending on the precise nature of whatever's going on there, might it react differently?

Since this is my first post on the discussion tab, I'll also say:

Hiya, folks! I'm your resident Deeper Magic from Before the Dawn of Time.

Each group of people on the world of Hamth strangely believe that their "understanding" of magic is deeper and more correct than any other (The Authorities of The Church at Ses Theeth even actively work to control how other people use magic, which some say is none of their business).

The Practitioners of "Shadow Magic" are no different.

However, all magic, fundamentally, works through certain underlying principles that are common on Hamth. The first of which is that creating effects on this world that would be called "magical" is done by taping into the fundamental material of certain outer and inner planes and drawing that material onto this plane. Divine casters do this through prayers and rituals (and the "casting of spells") that is, in a way, "Authorized" by the inhabitants of those planes, while Arcane casters do this through study, memorization, and mastering technical correctness (and the "casting of spells") that allow them to draw forth the necessary magical energies (materials of other planes) without the authorization (and often the knowledge that it is even happening) of the beings of these other planes.

What each caster who tried to "Detect Magic" just experienced was a very brief disconnection from their normal awareness of the magical transference from pne plane to another that creates magic on this world, and a very brief sensation that this connection they are familiar with was broken.

@Jazz Kraz: Word for the wise - your character needs a melee weapon (my attitude has always been that every PC should have both a melee and ranged weapon no matter their specifics, but in the case of a Magus, it's non-negotiable). I'd trade in the longbow for a shortbow, and reduce your trail rations to 2-4 (netting you 48 or 49 gp, plenty to buy most any light or one-handed martial weapon). His Intelligence is honestly too low - Sulis don't make the best Magi, needless to say, but what I'd do in this case is lower your Dexterity to 14 in order to raise your Intelligence to 14.
