Bryndyn places the flat head of his mace down on the ground and then leaves the weapon to stand on it's own. He then lifts both hands away from the weapon in a gesture of peace.

Elinor stands suspicious and confused. Was that a respect-click, or was it just the creature, ghost, thing smacking its lips?

Liberty's Edge

The creature watches and and looks at each of you for a sign of comprehension. After an interval that seems like an eternity, but in truth is only a minute or so, it makes a roar, like a roaring fire, or the rushing wind and races toward Bryndyn, and to onlookers it appears that they hit foreheads. On impact there is a loud sound, like the crack of thunder, and in the same instant, the roaring stops and the phantasm disappears (all the material it used to make a form falls seemingly harmlessly to the ground). Its effects do not.

Once hit Bryndyn is thrown back several feet, and stands for only a moment before collapsing to the ground.

Bryndyn please make a will save.

No matter. The roll alone is good enough.

Have asked Sigil a question by email. I'm also on my way home. I will post a response to this later this afternoon.

F Human Fighter 2/Bard 2 (HP32/32 AC 27 Ft+4 Rf+4 Wl+3 Pcp +7)

Elinor breathes a sigh of relief, she has had enough fighting for one day.

"Larayn, see to the scaly one, but be cautious. Narnel, can you get yourself topside, make sure that there are no more spiders and see if Sven's been eaten. Harlynn, I'm echoing Narnel, what was that thing? Me, I'll just stand here and watch Narnel's hintquarters."

Narnel blushes, and winks at Elinor as he heads up to the surface, dagger still in his possession.

Shouldn't we gather some of this treasure as well?

Bryndyn shakes his head. His shoulders ache where he was thrown to the ground...his head throbs as well. Behind him, Narnel asks about gathering the treasure and it rouses him for just a moment.

NO...leave it...for now. I...*cough*, we must go. We are weak and this place is restless. I he begins, then stops seemingly confused I don't know....what happened. My head is full of pictures and I must...think upon them and interpret what I have seen. I think returning now with the dagger is paramount.

F Human Fighter 2/Bard 2 (HP32/32 AC 27 Ft+4 Rf+4 Wl+3 Pcp +7)

[ooc]I'd forgotten about the treasure. Call myself a role player??[ooc]

"Yon boggle didn't croak ye then? That's good, they'll need your help getting me out of this hole."

Elinor winks then, realising the lizard-man might not be able to read human expressions, genuflects to mimic the tail twitch that a properly endowed speaker of draconic would use to convey the same tone.

Hrrmmm, lets see, you were just knocked to nigh unto death...and your first thought wasn't treasure...seems realistic to me

"I'm not dead yet" Bryndyn says gruffly, then twitches his tail. "My head is exploding in stars and pain. I will be...able to function, but I sense these images are trying to tell me something and I cannot focus here."

Liberty's Edge

The climb to the top is going to take 4 climb checks, just like getting down. Be careful, it would be a shame if after all you have done, this were the place that people died! :)

Bryndyn looks at the rope. "We need to do this the right way. Slow and careful. If I fall, I'm done for. Same might be true for Elinor. I propose Narnel goes up the rope first, followed by Harliquin and Larayn. Each one helps the next until several of you are helping Elinor and I so much we are basically lifted up. You gotta be careful Narnel, though. I'm not sure if there might not be more spiders at the top."

Bryndyn stands by ready to attempt to catch anyone who falls....

Liberty's Edge

DC's for the up trip are 10, 15, 15 and 5

Narnel makes easy work of the climb. On the surface he finds a world of calm. Sven has cleared a fairly large patch of grass. There are no more evidences of spiders, or men. The air is cool, but warmer than that of down below, and leaves dance along the ground while clouds move gently along the blue sky. Shadows are starting to gather, but the heroes of the Devils Hole should be able to make it back before dark if they desire.

I am not certain that an aid other skill use would work in this instance, but Narnel could certainly just help the lightest one up and so forth until are are lifting Bryndyn to the top.

Do we have a second Rope? Narnel could lower that and tie it around a tree or boulder, using the leverage to lift while we climb. Should prevent falls at the least.

Harlynn tries his luck with the rope, but he falters and so close to the top! The collective breath of the party is held as he attempts to move up again.

Additional climb roll DC 5 please Harlynn.

Narnel peers down to the others, secures a second rope, and drops it down.

The dagger is out, I have it! I will attempt to aid in the climb if you use the one rope, and secure the second around your waist, I will pull each of you up while you climb.

STR Check: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (10) + 1 = 11

STR Check: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (17) + 1 = 18
STR Check: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (12) + 1 = 13

I figure that once I get someone stronger up here, then they can also aid in pulling up the others.

Liberty's Edge

Good plan Narnel.While a strength check is not canon it makes sense here. L:ets use it like an assisted skill, and a 10 or better adds 2 to the roll. Additionally, a 10 will keep her from falling. Larayn can use the assistance! Larayn Climb 1d20 - 2 + 2 ⇒ (12) - 2 + 2 = 121d20 - 2 ⇒ (11) - 2 = 91d20 - 2 + 2 ⇒ (15) - 2 + 2 = 151d20 - 2 + 2 ⇒ (8) - 2 + 2 = 81d20 - 2 + 2 ⇒ (2) - 2 + 2 = 21d20 - 2 + 2 ⇒ (6) - 2 + 2 = 6 So here, Larayn makes her first check, and fails her second by more than 4 so would fall, but Narnels next roll prevents that, and then she makes her next check and is halfway there! She fails her next check, but again Narnel helps her avoid tragedy, and then she stalls. Narnel could we have some more strength rolls. Larayn is halfway there and struggling.

Climb 1d20 ⇒ 12

F Human Fighter 2/Bard 2 (HP32/32 AC 27 Ft+4 Rf+4 Wl+3 Pcp +7)

Elinor looks up at the distant hole in the roof.

"Might as well wish for wings as expect me to climb up there dressed like this."

She clicks her tongue against the roof of her mouth, which might be draconic for a very rude word, or might just be an expression of irritation, and kneels down and starts undoing straps.

"Keep one eye on the tunnel and the other on Narnel will ye, Bryn."

When she's down to her arming coat, Elinor will send her armour, pack and shield up by rope before beginning the climb.

Elinor's first set of rolls, unmodified for assists, rope, etc.

1d20 + 1 ⇒ (10) + 1 = 111d20 + 1 ⇒ (8) + 1 = 91d20 + 1 ⇒ (6) + 1 = 71d20 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 = 3

Told you. Happily she's barely got off the ground before she falls, shall I just start from scratch?

The Exchange

Male Lizardfolk Lizardfolk 1/Ranger 3;AC: 20, T:11, FF: 20; HP 49/49; F:+9, R+4, W: +1, Init + 1; Perc+8 (add +2 terrain +2 undead)

stringing positive numbers on this dice roller is like expecting every m&m in a mixed back to be green... It just isn't happening :)

Liberty's Edge

Harlynn is standing above ground. Assuming he will start helping with pulling people up, I will need some strength rolls from him as well.

Elinor, I am going to wait on you until I have those rolls, and maybe Larayn too to help. At that point they ought to be able to just haul you up. :)

Liberty's Edge

Narnel Rolls 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (10) + 1 = 111d20 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 1 = 21d20 + 1 ⇒ (10) + 1 = 111d20 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 = 51d20 + 1 ⇒ (13) + 1 = 14

Harlynn Rolls 1d20 ⇒ 41d20 ⇒ 51d20 ⇒ 71d20 ⇒ 51d20 ⇒ 7

Larayn Rolls 1d20 - 2 ⇒ (17) - 2 = 151d20 - 2 + 2 ⇒ (3) - 2 + 2 = 31d20 - 2 ⇒ (8) - 2 = 61d20 - 2 + 2 ⇒ (3) - 2 + 2 = 31d20 - 2 ⇒ (20) - 2 = 18

Larayn makes it up the next section of rope but falters again, but only for a moment. Once at the top she takes a moment to shake out her tired muscles.

From this point, it is a simple thing to get Elinor and Bryndyn up.

The only encounter the party has on the way back, is with a spooked horse, and while it never lets you close enough to touch it, you are disturbed to see that it appears to be covered in blood that is not it's own. Further on you find a boot that looks much like one worn by the cleric who was tasked with bringing Jad to town.

The parties wounds have taken their toll, and they move slower than they might ordinarily, arriving at the town at the gloaming and so just narrowly avoiding 'curfew'. The guards at the gate are skittish. It seems that only in the last 30 minutes or less, 2 more women were taken from their homes. On questioning you learn that Jad and Nicodemus did not make it to town.

A brief walk past the Ladies tower shows it to be dark, and the gates are closed, so getting her the prize will wait for morning.

The night passes with no interuption for you, and wherever you slept, you are roused by a young bot who calls himself Deiter, and says he is Yancars son. He invites you to breakfast there and hurries away without waiting for your answer.

Please apply appropriate healing, and.... An additional level!!! You have earned it. Also, please rejoin the main thread. The rest of the party is at Yancar's starting breakfast.

To Bryndyn:

"It's been a pleasure to fight beside ye, lizard. I know that where I'm from yer folk do eat their own deed. If I faal, I'd be grateful if ye at least cyuk me first so that both aar traditions can be honoured."

To Harlynn:

"Lad, I think yer a bit of a yap but those tricks ye knaa are canny and ye've bottle. Good on ye."

To Larayn:

"Hinny, I'd be twice deed if not fer ye. I'm not ready to gan just yet so I'll cast a prayer or two te your missus."

To Narnel:

"Reet bonny lad. I need a drink, a bed, a bath and a shag. And another drink. Not necessarily in that order. And lets have a look at that kniff, I called halfies."

A fine adventure! Well done, all!

After listening intently to Elinor's words, he turns beet red, but gets up the nerve to eventually respond.

Elinor, my lady, it would truly be my pleasure to accompany you upstairs after we complete the celebration. I have been dying to see what lies under that armor.

FYI - I did a general intro of our party's return to Yuncar's, and I re-posted this post in the main thread. Per Sigil's instruction, we need to jump over there now. narnel, definitely feeling VERY lucky! ;-)
