A campaign that is heavily influenced by Kingmaker; yet nothing will be as you expect...

Male Human (Varisian) Fighter (Brawler)/3 HP 32/32, Init +2, Per +1, AC 15/ t12/ ff13, F 4, R 3, W 2

Hi there! First off, thanks once again to DundjinnMasta for selecting me. Reading the Campaign so far it looks like a lot of fun.

If you haven't already read 'Tad's background (or possibly even if you have) I have envisioned him as kind of equal parts soccer hooligan & conspiracy theorist, kind of.
He is noticeably smarter than he lets on, but that is mainly because he puts effort into presenting as having a 'room temperature IQ'.
As far as the conspiracy theorist bit goes, he isn't one of the raving ones, but he knows there is something dodgy going on regarding the disappearance of House Rogarvia & that certainty colors his opinions about everything else.

Player-wise, I'm out of the Central timezone U.S.A. & I'm a single father of an eleven-year old, so my posting is likely to be in the mornings & evenings on week days.

He background was ultimately what sold me on him. An Orlovsky (which have already found themselves as part of the story with Alexis Orlovsky and Lord Poul Orlovsky). As well he is someone that has considerable interest to pursue information regarding the disappearance of every scion of Rogarvia. I equally enjoy the concept of the thuggish rake that has lowered the expectations upon him and everyone thinks he is useless as nothing but a hooligan/party boy.

Male Human (Varisian) Fighter (Brawler)/3 HP 32/32, Init +2, Per +1, AC 15/ t12/ ff13, F 4, R 3, W 2

I just realized my last post kind of implied I don't post much on weekends, which is actually kind of the opposite really. My son is with his mother on weekends, so I have/occupy a lot more time on-line.

I understand. It is nice to know your posting habits as part of my scheduling deals with my three-year old whom I have split custody (mon/tues/sat rotating fridays). I also work 7 AM to 4 PM, and sometimes (like tonight) I work 430 PM to 930 PM at a different job. It isn't that I don't have plenty of free time to post, it is just I have a set window of free time in which I post.

Thadeuzs:

Now about your background... It is stated that you were from a minor branch of the Orlovsky family. How do you feel about increasing your position in the Orlovsky family to being the youngest son of Lord Poul Orlovsky, the politician of Issian, and the most heartless bastard you have ever known. The "youngest" is Alexis Orlovsky in her late teens and is being used to seal an alliance between House Orlovsky and Restov through marriage. I haven't set a number of children for Orlovsky yet, but I see him as a mini-Lord Frey from a Game of Thrones (if you have ever read A Song of Ice and Fire) with a 'largest' family around eight children , a few of which could have children of their own.

Though technically what I have in mind could also work if you were cousins of a similar age but with the background currently in place then you wouldn't have much to do with your more highly placed cousin.

DundjinnMasta:
I have no problems with being more closely related in the manner you are describing.
Yes, I have read all the 'Song of Ice & Fire' series & the idea of being Alexis' 'slightly' older brother is something I would enjoy immensely.
I can easily see 'Tad' as being the 'unwanted son' to the Patriarch & his only friend among his siblings being the younger sister, or possibly twin sister who is valued because of the possible political ties she enables rather than for her actual worth as a person.

Male Human (Varisian) Fighter (Brawler)/3 HP 32/32, Init +2, Per +1, AC 15/ t12/ ff13, F 4, R 3, W 2

Hey Valeska, isn't Taldan just another name for Common?

HP 30/30 ~ AC18 tch13 ff15 ~ CMD18 ~ Fort+5 Ref+5 Will+3

Howdy. Thanks again. Just checking in... lemme know if you would like me to tweak my bio. Just added a little about the most recent phase of my life, but it is still pretty loose.

If it is, that's cool... I'll pick another. Skald, maybe.

@DM - Any possible tie-in to Kesten Garess, the Exiled Blade? Maybe the one who unofficially taught Valeska.

Thadeuzs:

I like the idea of the twin sister route, but how old is Thadeusz because it seems he was leading a rather involved with the Rogarvia scions before they vanished but it is suggested that he is a "late teen" in his appearance.

And you are spot on the way that Poul Orlovsky would view his daughter. I will need to detail the family a bit more, but since you are so low status as to likely never inherit then you were of no use to him. Atleast until your exploits with the Rogarvia, which made your more of an asset with ties to the "royal" family.

Valeska:

Already ahead of you there. I was planning on making you officially the "apprentice" to the newly appointed Swordlord. I have envisioned the Swordlords as having their own apprentices who they handpick from the Aldori College in order to train them so that they can be wielded against their rivals.

Someday when Kesten thinks you are ready then he will have you challenge a rival Swordlord as Ioseph had him too. If you win then you inherit the Swordlords status and estates thus increasing his sphere of influence and by extension Ioseph Sellemius' influence from Master to Apprentice. Once you become a Swordlord then you will usually do the same thing.

Morley:

You are the bastard son of a Garess, so I am thinking of tying you in with Kesten Garess as cousins. Evan Garess, cousin to the Garess patriarch, obviously has no problems with exiling his own family so I suspect he would have exiled his sister from his household (to Brunderton), and he wouldn't likely care about her bastard son anymore then he cared about her.

Now we just have to find a reason for you to be in Restov and to come calling on your cousin... Kesten Garess, the Exiled Blade, Swordlord of Restov.

I have plenty of time to post, but I'm still building a picture of all the noble houses and such. You've got a very rich world going on here. I'm gonna pretend I'm really Grendolynn though and she knows nothing about any of the politicians. Probably barely knows the king's name.

I live in China so I'm 12 hours ahead of EST.

Male Human (Varisian) Fighter (Brawler)/3 HP 32/32, Init +2, Per +1, AC 15/ t12/ ff13, F 4, R 3, W 2

DundjinnMasta:
I suppose technically for him to have been old enough to really be a juvenile delinquent with the Rogarvia kids he would have to be no younger than his early to mid-twenties now wouldn't he?
They (the Rogarvia children) could possibly have been rather precocious in that regard & he technically be even younger than them & not necessarily have completely understood what they were 'really up to' so-to-speak as another viewpoint, kind of like Sansa in 'A Song of Ice & Fire', only without the horrible betrayal part.
I definitely see 'Tad' as a 'youngest son', yes. Also, the double whammy of not really wanting/needing another son when he was born, combined with the disappointment of his one "useful" quality (ie: that he might become a favored sycophant of the royal family) dashed with the family's dissapearance, probably really soured his father on him, yes.
Another seed so-to-speak that I am having for the character is 'The Curse of Chalion' by Lois McMaster Bujold. It, like 'A Song of Ice & Fire' is good for showing a lot of the behind the scenes politicking that goes on during an unsteady transfer of power in a fantasy kingdom.

Thadeuzs:

That is what I thought. If you didn't have an age picked out I would put him between 23-25 since it has been ten years almost since the Rogarvia family vanished that would have put him at 13/15 when he was involved with them before the vanishing.

I am getting this image of a gang made up of aristocrat teenagers all spurred on by the Rogarvia scions. Prowling around New Stetven looking for fights/turf wars against other gangs, protection rackets, and even robbery. Travelling to other cities and doing a similar thing and making charter groups... like a fantasy Sons of Anarchy, heh.

Going to look up the 'The Curse of Chalion'.

Bizarre, you're the second person to mention that author I've come across in the few PbP games I'm in. The other one recommended the Vorkosigan series, which I promptly devoured all installments of.

Dundjinnmasta, you can get many of her books for free from the online baencd.

EDIT; Fixed as well; hate it when that happens. There are also a bunch of other authors there as well. You can buy any not-baencd-available books that have been published from baen ebooks: no DRM, multiple formats from kindle, nook, ibook, and even .RTF

So, figure 'Tad' is about 22?

@Tad - If you want, but I figured he ran with them for a few years which is why I suggested 23-25. If he started running with them at 12, then it all depends on how long he was with them until they vanished 10 years ago.

Male Human (Varisian) Fighter (Brawler)/3 HP 32/32, Init +2, Per +1, AC 15/ t12/ ff13, F 4, R 3, W 2

It would have been long enough to become good friends, I'd say at least 2 or 3. Yeah, he'll be 25 then. Which would also put him young enough to still have had something to do with Alexis when she was born, but old enough to have a definite 'big brother-little sister' association between them.

I'll adjust his age along with the other things we talked about.

@Valeska:

You are not a Swordlord which means if you come into power in the Stolen Lands it has not effect on Restov. And people can always renounce their positions in order to obtain other ones, but it may look fuzzy politically especially if someone did that but continued stay on good terms with a close political relationship with Restov.

Long story short, no there is nothing that can disqualify her from holding office in the stolen lands.

I will introduce you with Kesten at the tavern tomorrow or wednesday depending on how my evening goes tomorrow. I don't see anything else that needs to be covered, do you have any other questions?

@Tad - Alright. I am going to introduce you in the next scene with Alexis since the marriage has currently been put on hold until 'further notice'.

Just a side note, please do not assume that I know the reason for a roll. You need to give me some indication somewhere about what you are trying achieve with that roll.

If we should present a gift.

There was also a follow-up roll by someone which I did not know if they were trying to use nobility on the Bandit King or something similar to gift-giving.

@Tad - Thanks for your patience we should be introducing you soon (hopefully tomorrow but I have limited time between work and having to get on the road so it may be early friday afternoon at the latest).

@Morley - Are you still with us? You never responded to the above message...

HP 30/30 ~ AC18 tch13 ff15 ~ CMD18 ~ Fort+5 Ref+5 Will+3

Yes I'm here. I've been trying to come up with a with a reason to come calling on Kesten. Any thoughts?
A reason for being in Restov could be anything, but I haven't come up with a good tie-in to Kesten.

HP 30/30 ~ AC18 tch13 ff15 ~ CMD18 ~ Fort+5 Ref+5 Will+3

DM:
OK. I escorted notables to the wedding, and if the Gnarly Hobbit is one of the few places left with vacancies there is a good chance I'd be staying there. Seeing Kesten, my ears would definitely perk up, and would not be shy about approaching him (slightly addicted to validating his view of nobles thinking they're too good for him and rejecting him)

male Aasimar (Angel Blooded) Paladin level 3

Thank you, Valeska, that was pretty much what I was going for. I don't know how well I've been doing, but my idea was that Teyran isn't suppposed to be obviously Aasimar, my idea was that he could pass for human, which is especially ironic, because in reality he's a tall dwarf. . .

Female Human Tactician 1 HP 12/12 | AC 18/20 | T 14 | FF 14/16 | CMD 17 | F +3 | R +4 | W +0 | Init +6 | Per +0

I try, no worries.

@Morley:

I have a complete new way to introduce you now that I think about it. Kesten has a considerable sized expedition heading to the Stolen Lands that he has hired on people, but some of those people have also gotten other people in their employment as while as had others assigned to them.

By special request a trio of Cavaliers have been sent to help a friend of the current head of the Order of the Dragon. A merchant named Oleg Leveton needs skilled protection for his small caravan train in Restov heading into the Stolen Lands. Standard issue orders, you are to comply with his request yadda yadda yadda.

You will have two other companion Cavaliers with you, and if you want to name them and give a short description and personality quirks to me as well as defining your relationship with them but let's leave your cousin Staurt in the side pocket for now.

@Tad - There is officially a post in the game thread for you.

@Morley - I will post something as soon as you accept or deny the new info I put forth for you.

HP 30/30 ~ AC18 tch13 ff15 ~ CMD18 ~ Fort+5 Ref+5 Will+3

Sounds good.

Just a reminder. I'll be away on vacation from the 14th (Friday) to the 23rd (Sunday) of this month. I'm doubtfull I'll be near internet then, so feel free to 'bot' me during that period.

I'll be out 14-16 as well.

Male Dhamphir Bard 1

I will also be out from thursday 13th to about the monday. Going to a LARP event.

The moral of the story is that posting will be lite this upcoming weekend and quite probably before the weekend begins.

Thanks for the heads up, I appreciate it.

Sorry for not posting today. I had a meeting that ran over to long. I don't think I will get a post in tonight but I will try.

Sorry everyone, once again had a business meeting today that ran longer then expected. I am about to pass out but I didn't want to go without saying something. I am free and clear tomorrow after work so I will try to get some post in before several people go on vacation. Just one of those weeks!

Have fun. Will do if needed.

All I have to say is Thank Cthulhu this week is over. Going to work on posts now.

And then after 20 minutes of work. I accidentally closed my browser... the week has not ended apparently. Back to working on the post again!

I'm assuming some fealty, besides just being Kesten's protege. Above Kesten, is there a feudal chain of command? Among those who will be present, who does Valeska owe the most duty/loyalty to and so on down the line?

It really depends on your character's loyalties.

If your loyalties lay with the Swordlords (and by extention Rostland) then Kesten is ultimately where your loyalty lies. All Swordlords are equal within the Council. Kesten may have left over loyalty to Ioseph as his former protege but that doesn't really extend down to you unless Kesten is doing something for his former Master.

If you are loyal to Restov, then ultimately the Lord Mayor is the authority that you are looking at. The current Lord Mayor happens to also be a Swordlord and now the Council is enjoying a influx in attention/power from the political situation in Restov.

If you are loyal to Brevoy then it becomes murky as it can be to House Surtova or to House Rogarvia. The Lord Regent (Surtova) is trying to be recognized as King, and even calls himself King along with most of his supporters. While there are those like Lord Orlovsky (and Restov) that refuse to recognize him as King and by extension are still loyal to House Rogarvia.

There is a reason for all the political rife in Brevoy... no one can serve all the 'Masters'.

I am going to push the game forward to the meeting tonight. I will just wrap up some things with Morley and Tad as "past events".

Female Human Tactician 1 HP 12/12 | AC 18/20 | T 14 | FF 14/16 | CMD 17 | F +3 | R +4 | W +0 | Init +6 | Per +0

So, to keep it simple... Valeska's loyalties are the order you describe at the onset. Seems to be natural and closest to furthest.
