Faith nods. "I could use that dagger. Not sharp enough to slice an echo, but good enough for my work."

"It's too far to Detect Magic reliably. I recommend--"

Faith turns to watch the arrow fly. "That."

The arrow fly true - and although the legs wave around, hits the carapace.

And the arrow shatters.

Zaine drops to a knee, sights carefully along the musket, and fires. The snake, who had its head pulled up to watch you, doesn't move at the loud thunderclap of the firearm - and the heavy ammunition enters through the eye and less than seconds later the head is no more.

The huge body remains coiled above along the tree branch about 20-feet above where you would have walked.

You have a dead 600 lb. snake

Regardless of if you take care of the snake first or later, you do find the hill that was marked on Ishirou's map. The grass on the low hill is remarkably green and looking closely you see a layer of ash which fueled the verdant growth.

Other than that it looks like a completely unremarkable hill (you are able to point out the two spiky rocks off shore which the pirate captain used to mark the location of his treasure.

Faith votes we take down the snake on our way back to camp.

"Let's get to the top of this hill and back down while it's light. See what we can see from up there."

If no one jumps ahead, Faith takes lead.

Zaine's expression stays stoic, but he does wink.

Zaine:
About a week after camp is moved

One morning, Sasha comes over with some fresh fish (which is nice again after snake, snake and more snake). Offering the smaller to Zaine and the slightly larger to Tulip. She smile, "When Áine and I were scouting, I found a perch that overlooked the a dimorphdon nest." She shifts a bit, "They had some eggs, and I want to see if they've hatched."

She holds up her hands in a small circle, orb shape, "Because little baby dimorphdon will be adorable to see." She nods, green eyes big.

Towards the Grey Island - Ginormous Crab!

The scouting party is able to get within sixty feet of the giant crab without being attacked. The legs flail threatening and the sounds get deeper, more intense.

The crab, however, is not magical when Faith checks.

A) Sense Motive DC 14:
As violent as the crab appears to be, the actual body of the crab is not moving from the high tide line. And the body of the crab is not lifting up at all either.
B) Perception DC 20:
What appeared to be seaweed from further away looks like rope connecting the body to the moving legs.

If no one jumps ahead, Faith takes lead.

Getting up to the top of the hill is easy, the verdant grass knee high and your boots grey from the old ashes underneath. You have a beautiful view of the large mountain to the south (across another small bay). Its bare rock and mud sides are maroon red, mimicking dried blood.

At the base of the mountain, at the water line, you see (with the spyglass) a creature that looks to be a cross between a crab and a tick dart from a sea cave to grab a passing fish in it's pincer.

On the positive, this hill seems decently safe.

C) Perception DC 25:
You do a detailed search of the hill. You see no sign of anything buried.

Returning with the snake

The anaconda is greeted with pleased surprise. It is the single largest protein source that you've found and once Áine takes what she is actively cooking, Jask starts to work at breaking down the meat to dry and preserve.

You also have a very nice, large snakeskin.

Aerys leans on a tree near faith, "That's your version of fishing?"

From the cave, horse but far more spunky than a few days ago, "There are places people pay for big anaconda."

Returning with the snake
As soon as the party returns to camp and the skin is prepared, Áine takes a portion of anaconda, sifts through her store of locally picked herbs, leaves, roots and berries and goes about putting together a decidedly out of the ordinary campside meal. She hums a tune as she works. The small feast seems to be coming alomg nicely as her tune remains happy and infectious throughout.

Although, as Zaine pointed out, the body of the large crab doesn't move, the pincers and legs are mobile. Those appendages stretch towards Áine and the pincer clacks. The crab's voice rises, the pitch going up in a painful echo.

Basically doing everything to emote 'I'm a big ass scary crab and you want to avoid me, else crabby doom shall fall on you.

Scouting Down the Coast to TREASURE

Sunrise comes creeping over the horizon, letting you line you up the sun with the rocks to determine the right point to dig.

And you dig.

And dig.

Once you break through the tough root system of the grasses the ashy soil is easy. But it is hot, sweaty work.

Hours after you started, although at least you had the shovels from the Jenivere, you've excavated a 10-foot wide and 10-feet dip hole which reveals two things: the skeleton of a dwarf and a wooden platform carefully wedged into the rocks around the pit.

Male Human Warpriest 17

Then, he yells at the crab: "Shut up! My eyes hurt from all the rolling they're doing!"

Scouting Down the Coast to TREASURE

"Maybe being a priest isn't such a sacrifice," Faith says, panting, after he's finished a turn at the shovels. "I don't have to dig holes for a living."

He wipes the sweat from his brow. His tattoo shines against the wet skin. "Which one of us was good at checking for traps and disarming them? All I'm good for is setting them off and surviving." He snorts. "So far."

He points at the red peak that is visible in the distance to the southeast. "They do drum and fire up there every month."

"Don't see why you want to go mess with them, they have magic juju." He squaks, "Heard one of them talk about an ancient mother."

Zaine nods. "Sounds like we're going to have to make these cannibals a priority. Hit them before they hit us. And, you know, avoid being the guests of honor slash entree at their next bonfire."

Zaine peers through the spyglass. "Well I'll be a orc's grandma. That is something." He hands the spyglass back. "How many nests have you seen? I have to imagine it's a decent number, if you can make a generalization like that."

Áine nods in agreement with Zaine.

Áine please make a reflex save to avoid falling from the rope into the water.

Dice:

Reflex Save: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (19) + 7 = 26
Perception: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (20) + 8 = 28
uKnowledge Religion: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (10) + 1 = 11

"Undead. Damn it! I hate undead!"
Áine winds one leg into the rope and draws her bow, then winds loops her upper arm around the rope as well.

"Yes," Faith says. "Gather info, then strike. An island of evil to smite is even better than a deserted island." Faith gets that look in his eyes for a moment, then it's gone.

I take 10 on both, assuming I can

Faith takes a moment to light and strap on his waterproof miner's lantern (if this takes time from an upcoming combat round, so it does). "Room for one more?" he calls down.

Zaine gives Faith a pat on the back and levels the musket, waiting to see what the light will reveal.

Zaine:
"Three other aeries." Sasha says, taking a look at the nest with the spyglass, "One only has this older guy, who snaps at anyone else who comes into his territory."

She smiles at Zaine, "There is a pack of smaller ones at one and a pair at the third."

She looks down at her hands, "I sound a little obsessed don't I?"

Sasha, who had been eyeing the tengu's saw-like sword with envy, looks at the rest of the exploration party, "So we are going to hunting over a third of the island hoping to stumble on the cannibal camp and do the grey island later?"

She uses her thumb to point the unusually colored landscape which is only about another five miles down the bay.

She looks at the sword again, "Don't suppose you'd be up for trading that sword away?" she asks the tengu.

"Never!" squaks the bird man. "It was a gift from the most beautiful, red-feathered love. Never shall I let her memory or her sword go."

The hand which Áine and Faith saw retreats under the water, having faith in the murk and gloom to keep it safe from ranged.

Faith shakes his head. ”No, grey island today. Regroup and take care of cannibals as next thing. I don’t have the right spells prepared for cannibals today.”

Pit

”Are you coming back up so we can plan this or are you in a battle frenzy?” Faith asks entirely seriously.

GM:
"Yeah." Zaine shrugs. "But hey, who am I to judge? Besides, we're stuck here on this island for who knows how long, so we might as well enjoy it a little." He pauses. "I actually meant nests back where you're from. You mentioned that you lived in some kind of dinosaur menagerie or something... and later hinted that you might be an exiled assassin, but we can get to that later... so I was asking about the nests back home. If home has any meaning to someone like us."

Treasure Pit
Zaine, having failed to see anything to this point, calmly pulls back the hammer and waits for his shot. He's like a statue; it's difficult to even detect his breathing.

Áine nods her head in agreement. "Yup. Grey Island first...if we can get to it." She turns to the Tengu, "My name is Áine, by the way what's yours?" and after waiting for a reply continues, "Do you know anything about the grey island? Can we get to it during low tide or is there still too much water?"

Áine grins, "No frenzy. Haul me up, please." and upon reaching the top. "Don't know how many of them there are, but... she swears softly to herself under her breath, "Sorry, I should have handled that differently." she takes a breath, then continues, "..what tried to shake me from the rope was an aquatic version of a ghoul. They can paralyze you, then.." she shudders, "eat you at their leisure. It's using the water as cover." she shakes her head, "Damn it. I hate undead." a brief pause, "Especially intelligent undead."

Zaine uncocks his gun and sets the butt on the ground, barrel pointing at the sky. "Who likes undead? I mean, other than necromancers? Or Faith, who only likes them because he gets to kill them. There's a lot of complexity to that relationship. Poetic in its way..." Zaine trails off. "Right, sea ghoul. Uh... we could harpoon it and haul it out of the water? Do we have harpoons?"

”Protection From Evil will keep it away, but I don’t know how to lure it out of the water if it can’t get to us.”

A big grin breaks across Faith’s face. ”We could fish for it.”

Zaine:
oh She blushes a bit.

She considers, "It is more of a dangerous predator menagerie." She smiles, "But there are self-sustaining populations of a number of dinosaurs." Her eyes get a little far away, "And one mated pair that nests near the base of the citadel. It was my favorite thing to make a blind in a tree and watch everything move through the jungle."

Her voice is quiet, "I know that what I'm used to isn't normal, but it was my home. And the only place I know." She shakes her head, "But that's why this is a good thing, learning new things, meeting people who think differently." She looks at Zaine, "Those are good things, right?"

CrabHaving been rejected by the tengu, Sasha looks back out at the island, smiling a bit when she hears the plans for today haven't changed.

She turns to the Tengu, "My name is Áine, by the way what's yours?"
In a sound that is half squak and half speech "Pezock."
Quote:
"Do you know anything about the grey island? Can we get to it during low tide or is there still too much water?"

He points at the small island between the main Shiv and the grey island, "That side," pointing the southern end, "Is only covered when the tide is really really high and that side," pointing to the northern end near the grey island, "only has land at very, very low tide."

"Looks like a dead place to me."

Onward to Grey Island

When your group moves on, Pezock retreats to his crab-home mumbling to himself.

The remaining journey to the low-tide causeway blocking off the grey island is uneventful. While you are waiting for the tide to recede, you get a chance to look around. A chance to chat or to eat some of the very tasty snake jerky that Áine prepared.

Behind you, down the coast of the Shiv, you see another four shipwrecks decorating the rocks of the island. But on sea side of the grey island, you see what looks like a very old, but fully functional sailing ship - the sails move with the breeze.

On the bay side of the island, you see a pillar of rock jutting from the ocean, connected to the main island but thick grey rope.

Now that you are closer to the island, you can see that its coloration is due to a thick growth of various fungi. The fungus is odd, moving even when the wind is still, filament rising against gravity. When the breeze does turn to bring the smell of the island, it is a foul stank.

Pit

"No harpoon." Ishirou says sadly. He looks at the group, his eyes a little desperate, "How are we going to get past them? They must be the sailors who aided Captain Quellig in hiding his treasure."

Worried, "We aren't giving up on the treasure are we?"

GM:
"Depends on the person, I think. I mean, let's say you're talking to Gorguz the Child-Eater. I don't think he would have anything constructive to say about your moral development. But yeah, most people are probably fine. In fact meeting those people gives you an idea of their humanity, and that's probably important. I don't know, I'm just some guy." He pauses. "How sheltered were you exactly?"

Onward to Grey Island

"There's possibly a pirate out here, and there's a pirate ship," Zaine observes.

Pit
"We're not giving up. We just need some creative problem solving." Zaine frowns. "Did any of those wrecks have boat hooks? If you were going to fish for ghouls, you couldn't ask for anything better. We probably don't even the wood part, just the metal. There's enough trees around here to fashion some good poles."

Áine nearly squeals in delight at the sight of the ship. She seems decidedly less enthusiastic about traveling across a fungus ridden island however, especially one which moves of its own volition. "Damn. Knew I should have got that wand of Fireballs."

"I've got a fishing arrow. Only one though. It'll kind of depend on how deep the water is, and the thing may be smart enough to break it before we can draw him up." not to mention Pathfinder rules count an arrow as broken once it hits, so won't work on more than one

"Alternatively, we could dangle me as bait, try to draw them to the surface." she shudders, "if we can get at least Parts of them out of the water, I might be able to highlight them so we can track them after." a pause, "we'll only get one chance though... At least until tomorrow."
