Night falls as the group completes their meeting. This day has been filled with shocking twists and turns to say the least but is what the group has done enough to allow them to conquer the Tower?

The night passes by uneventfully. It seems that the Lord Commander has been true to his word else you would all be dead or in chains once more.

The group is starting to stir in the early Dawn when a loud pounding can be heard at the front door.

"InnKeep! Exit this building in the name of the Shining Lord!"

The voice seems to be magically enhanced by magic, it seems the first phase of your plan has begun.

You can hear the door below opened by James, "Father Donnigan, to what do I owe the pleasure of a visit from you? And several soldiers. Do you wish rooms, I fear I cannot accommodate all of you".

Donnigan replies, "No. We are here for an inspection of the premises".

You can picture the sour look on James' face, "This is highly unusual is it not?"

Donnigan retorts, "It has been an unusual few days".

James continues to stand his ground, "For what reason are you searching my premises. Is your Garrison not supposed to defend this town?"

Donnigan retorts, a bit of an edge to his voice this time, "If you've nothing to hide, you've nothing to worry about Jim".

"You sound like a Hellknight Father, did I fall asleep and waken in Cheliax?"

The Magister retorts, "Are you refusing to let us enter?"

James' voice has a harder edge, "What if I am".

The Magister retorts once more, "Then this conversation is over..."

James curses and states, "Wait here a moment. I shall awaken my customers and employees that they may vacate their rooms to aid you in your search. I am sure Sir Balin would be happy to assist. Matharyn will hear of your actions this day".

Father Donnigan replies this time, "In the name of the Shining Lord do we act, the Monarchy will be aligned with us but write a letter if you so wish".

You hear James walk back into the Inn though you do not hear to the door to the outside close. You hear no further footsteps but James' harsh voice can be heard though it is muffled.

Do you take any actions or wait?

Soren hisses, having been awake all night with the help of her spell. "They're here." She makes sure the others are awake and checks her weapon, then motions for the window. "Quickly, we need to be prepared. I won't be surprised if James attacks us before the Father has a chance to do anything about it. We either need to not be here, or be ready for a fight. Which do we want to do?"

Jack had fallen asleep directly in front of the door, acting as a snoring blockade. Having eaten the majority of a full grown man the night before, he had opted for sleep.

He pulled himself to his feet, checked a mirror to make sure his Balin disguise was firmly in place, and started putting on his armor.

"Sounds like we wait. If James is smart, he's cutting an' running now. If he comes for us, we kill him an' look like heroes to Donnigan and the wizard."

"Biggest risk is if any of th' Lamashtans are taken alive. They can blow our cover."

Alice quickly moves out of bed and casts Mage Armor, then Shield on herself.

"We'll just need to keep an eye or an ear out. I can give us Haste if needed."

Nate awakes, frowning at the noise. He casts mage armor on Aurex and grabs his weapons. "Mhmm. Should we make sure they die if they're captured?"

Moments later there is a knock on the door, it is one of the High Priests' "cooks", he whispers harshly, "Asmoedeans! The time has come, the Wizard and Cleric are away from their Tower, now is the time to strike them!"

You hear the man charge away from the door despite your lack of answer. You assume he assumes you will all help.

From outside once more you hear Father Donnigan, "That's enough time. Kick the door in".

The door is kicked in and a scream of pain, a death throe rings out. The sound of combat in the common room downstairs ensues. The Migister's voice rings out, "Slay these underlings. Take the InnKeep alive. He must be questioned".

Wisdom Check DC 12:
No doubt James has exited the Inn. Half of the men served the Mayor so he may well be running there to rally the rest of the followers of Lamashtu.

"If you're going to do that, perhaps I'll put on a bit of a show as well." Soren adjusts her disguise, enhancing her demonic features instead of hiding the few she possesses. A pair of spiral horns grow from her forehead and predatory teeth take shape in her mouth. Her eyes glow red, and her clothes match something more befitting a disguised demon in their midst. "If we're going to keep them from knowing it's us, might as well go for broke."

He grinned and changed. Sir Balin was a big man, but he was still only human. Grumblejack was anything but.

It had been weeks since he had been free of his disguise. With more than a foot of height added and nearly an extra full grown man's worth of mass, the room suddenly seemed a lot smaller.

His tail lashed and his wing-claws flexed. "Anyone else wanna join the party?"

She adjusts her circlet, and suddenly becomes stooped. Her hair grows grey and tangled, her skin becoming a sickly green and taking on the texture of wax paper.
Her fingers twist into claws and her teeth become rotten and croocked.
A tattered black robe completes the transformation.

"A Hag is always a good threat."

With Morana, Lothryin, an Aurex as reinforcements, the rest of the Villains enter the fray...

Inside

Grumble pushes open the door with Alice in the appearance of a Hag, and catching an approving side glance from Grumble at her ghoulish figure, in tow. As they head to the landing that leads down to the common room, the sounds of battle get louder.

From your vantage up here, you can see that only three followers of the Mother of Monsters remain with three others down on the floor. Only one of the eight guards present are down.

A rope is dropped out the side window and Soren and Nate head down. Unfortunately, the guards are not quite the fools you believed them to be as one was watching for just such an occurrence! He steps around the corner as you are both half-way down, "I've got two, I've... Nate!?" Instead of firing the crossbow he is holding, he hesitates.

You do not see anyone else from the guard step around the building, yet.

Nate, this ones name is Jeorg one of the few you got friendly with while posing as a "guard".

Actions? Soren is about 6' up while Nate is about 14' up still both on the rope.

Soren doesn't waste time with words, simply drawing her pistol and taking aim on the guard. Once Nate moves forward, she fires on the guardsman as well; she snaps off one shot and reloads, aiming again for the man's chest.

The guard takes a shot on the shoulder from Soren's gun, the blast is quite loud so early in the cool morning air.

Nate shambles towards him and attacks but misses, barely as the man is reeling. Bloody handprints on the building as he stalks away he calls out, "Father help!"

Grumblejack leapt down the remaining stairs with a thundering crash and a savage roar. He charged into the room and brought his hammer down into the fire pit.

It exploded.

Channel Energy. All creatures and unattended objects within 30 feet of grumble take 2d6 fire damage. DC 15 will save for 1/2 damage. Those who fail the save also Catch Fire, immediately taking another 1d6 damage.

Sighing when she feels the constant presence in her mind fades away. Smiling at the red smoke rolls off of her and solidifies in a solid looking human man who is a little taller than her.


Rolling his shoulders and fidgeting with the noose around his neck. Looking down and wiggling his toes in the red goo that has dripped off of him to pool on the ground. Looking back up at Moranna with a manic looking grin before turning to Aurex, "You wanna stop looking like a man and fly over the city. There could be so much fire!"

Tugging on her headband and shifting her appearance so her skin is albino pale and she is wrapped in dark robes. Looking over at Aurex and Lothryin, "How about we get out of here."

Grumble lands in the middle of the room and the fire explodes outwards, bathing the soldiers and cultists alike in the flames.

The soldiers cry out in pain as each man is engulfed in flames! These are men of discipline though and each knows he's a powerful cleric nearby so the men stand as one. The five who can see are certainly less sure of themselves with Grumble among their number.

The cultists are struck by fire and cry out in glee at the appearance of Grumble, "Our Mother, she aids us in our desperate hour!" Exclaims one.

Outside

Nate cuts down the soldier at the end of the building but sees a bigger problem as both the Cleric and the Mage see him!

The sound of smashing floorboards and a whoosh of flames from within though gets their attention, clearly, Grumble has joined the fray!

Lothryn smiles at the fiery apparition before him, instead of asking questions though, he heads out the window down the rope. Move and Standard Action - Climb 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (3) + 8 = 11 Though he slips a bit, the Ifrit makes it to the ground safely.

The Magister shrugs, "I guess he was right after all. Father, heal those men. I'll deal with the Beast".

In the middle of the Inn, a storm appears at the ceiling pounding Grumble and the cultists with hailstones and fierce cold! It blows the fire in the pit right out. It also slays the remaining cultists within the room.

The circled area is now considered difficult terrain, Perception checks within are at a -4 to tests and the area is freezing with swirling cold. Grumble take 14 Bludgeon Damage and 1 Cold Damage (your Cold Resistance being accounted for. NO saves.

Aurex admires the fire flickering from the hallway before doing so, he frowns as he can feel the rain and wind damping that fire down he then climbs down through the window to ensure his "pet"is not damaged by this foolish fight.

Father Donnigan bolsters the soldiers with positive energy! The fire injuries disappear in the wake of that wave and they cry out in challenge to Grumble.

I'm gonna assume I can get around the corner to fire at one of the two with the fancy portrait; I can't tell exactly which is which, but Soren's gunning for the healer.

"Time to pay Father a visit," Soren says, swinging down off the rope and rounding the building. When she spots Father Donnigan, Soren just grins and fires off two quick shots from her pistol after chanting a quick prayer. "Lord Asmodeus, may my bullets be unerring and burn with hellfire as I smite your foes!" Her first bullet wings for the Father's head and the second for his chest, before shouting for Nate. "Nate, Grumble! Father Donnigian is weak, finish him off! Cut him down, I'll keep the magister busy!"

Attack; Touch: 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (16) + 13 = 29
Damage: 1d8 + 3d6 + 5 ⇒ (7) + (2, 3, 4) + 5 = 21
Attack; Touch: 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (6) + 13 = 19

Total of 38 damage.

Since you mentioned we could have pre-cast any buffs, I included Divine Favor in this round as I didn't realize we had the time before. If you'd rather I didn't, subtract two from both attack and damage. I also spent a round of Bane and a point of Grit for Up Close and Deadly.

Soren's shots slam into the Priest and he stumbles backwards but does not fall. The Wizard calls out, "Protect Donnigan!"

From the far side of the Inn the soldier runs over and places himself in front of the Father to shield him from further fire. The one flanking the Wizard follows suit. The last guard outside charges at Soren, "Dies foul creature!" His attack just misses striking Soren, so close she can hear the wind whish by.

Some of the soldiers within the Inn likewise back up to block the doorway, indeed, they seem to think better of entering the area of the spell effect of the Wizard's spell. They set their swords ready for an attack. The rest draw and throw daggers at Grumble. Except for one who is still blinded by Alice's magic.

Stupid Wizard is my Smite target. It's difficult terrain in the ice storm so I can't charge, but I can still reach the cluster of guards.

Grumble came out of the icy cloud trailing fog and smoke, smashing past the tables and chairs in his way like they weren't even there. His roar started from silence and built until he swung the blunt end of his massive weapon in a sweeping arc that hit two of the guards.

Power Attack: 1d20 + 13 - 2 ⇒ (18) + 13 - 2 = 29
Bludgeoning Damage: 2d8 + 10 + 6 ⇒ (5, 3) + 10 + 6 = 24

Cleave: 1d20 + 13 - 2 ⇒ (11) + 13 - 2 = 22

I'll narrate the Bot PCs to move things along.

Lothryn and Aurex moved along the side of the building to support Nate and Soren.

Neither of them have much in the way of ranged options, so I figured they'd just double move and stay behind cover.

Nate loosed two arrows at the guard threatening Soren

Longbow, rapidshot, point blank: 1d20 + 10 - 2 + 1 ⇒ (14) + 10 - 2 + 1 = 23
Damage, point blank: 1d8 + 4 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 4 + 1 = 8

The cries of success from the soldiers turn to gasps of dismay as Grumble demolishes two of their number with ease.

Meanwhile outside, the arrows fired by Nate prove lethal to the fool hardy guard who charged Soren.

The Magister blanches as his spell injured but certainly did not defeat Grumble.

"Father, he is almost upon us!" The Wizard can so very clearly see the dilemma.
