Hello everybody. Sorry to barge in on your discussion thread, but I am a friend of Nathanial and am here posting on his behalf. He will be unable to post at all until Friday. Rest assure that everything is fine and his posting will be completely back to normal on Friday. Please DMPC him as necessary. Thank you.

Don't know why I didn't find this earlier, but would it be too late to apply an archetype to my character's rogue half? It wouldn't replace anything I've used already, since just about the only thing I've used is Diplomacy checks. If not I understand, just thought I'd ask. In case you're wondering, the archetype I want to apply is the Rake archetype. My character doesn't really do anything with traps, and I figured this would be a lot better for his concept.

Sure go ahead and make the change. :-)
Will likely update the thread tomorrow night, a 15 hour day at work is not conducive to clear gaming thoughts.
Vaundour"The Gentleman"Gathlain |
Thanks, will update when I get on my laptop tonight. And I completely understand about long work days, done them before.
the Shining Host |
Will get back to this over the weekend, been working 15 hour days this week so no time to run a PBP ATM.
the Shining Host |
I will not be able to update the thread until Tuesday night as I need to read through and remember where I was going with much of what we have done lately.
It has been so bad lately I even had to cancel my table top D&D session last Friday, something have not done the night of a game since 2007!

Take another day to build the Eidolon as I am giving Shalewigg that time to respond, if she has not responded by then I will DMPC her.
the Shining Host |
I will be acting for Shalewigg when I get home tonight if she does not post before then to get this show on the road.

I run a V20 Dark Ages game here on the Boards. I am looking for a player to fill the 13th character spot, Clan Nosferatu. Anyone interested?

As it seems you are all settled on heading forward I will bring the action into the Courtyard tonight.
the Shining Host |
Got sidetracked last night, will update tonight. Should be am interesting scene, you are all very close to being free!
the Shining Host |
I sense we may have lost players. I will set up the next combat and we will see who is still around.
Nathanial Torken |
Do we have a map for the current situation?
the Shining Host |
I am not much of a map guy.
Let me give the dimensions of the courtyard to assist in theater of the mind here.
The characters currently stand between a set of double doors which lead out of the Prison. This exit is 20' wide.
Due north 60' is the first portcullis which is open. The opening is 20' wide.
Due west 130' by 60' (roughly) is open courtyard with grass that has seen better days.
Due east 110' by 60' (roughly)is open courtyard with grass that has seen better days.
Both of these east and west areas are enclosed by the walls of the Keep and from what you can tell will not lead to your freedom. Essentially it is a huge courtyard.
Between your current position and the exit, is a fountain about 20' in circumference. Parked on either side of the fountain are two wagons. The western wagon is where Damien battle one guard while another lies bleeding out. The eastern wagon is on the far side of the fountain and is shaking due to the rage of Aurex. In front of that wagon Grumblejack fights two guards.
On top of the parapets of both the east and west side of the gates are one archer each who are currently firing at Grumblejack. They fire on him diagonally and are approximately each 60' away from the fountian and ate an elevation on top of the gatehouse of about 40'.
Through the gatehouse is a second set of doors that leads to freedom...
Nathanial Torken |
Gotcha. I was just considering my options for magic vs inspire courage vs controlling Aurex and wanted to know how enemies were clustered.

Understood, I should have posted that to begin with :-)
the Shining Host |
Sorry I am back, took a long break because I needed some time. I am ready to give this game the attention it needs, and I apologize for the wait
No worries, I am patient.
Vaundour"The Gentleman"Gathlain |
Question about the wagons: are they both covered? And would it be reasonable to assume my gear is in the one by Damien?

Pyotr has not posted in a month, I will recruit a new player if he does not respond to my PM.
the Shining Host |
Pyotr has had to drop.
I have replaced him with the Player who originally submitted Grumblejack as a PC since he is currently with the group the transition should be smooth.
Grumble Jack |
Heard you folks needed an Ogre?
I'll spend the evening tooling 'Jack to this game and looking over the gameplay thread. Thanks for letting me join you!
Edit: GM, now that Paizo has come out with the Ogerkin, would you mind if I used that? It's a +1 CR, which is roughly equivilant to a class level. I could use Ogrekin one side of my gestalt for this level and wait until next level to take another class. Thoughts?

Sounds like a fine idea to me go ahead and re-tool him as you see fit.

Ok, after looking over the group's makeup and realizing that there doesn't appear to be a single frontliner among us, and (amazingly) there's no antipaladin either, I've turned Grumble into your very own hell-fueled meat wall.
I know about his Daemon heritage, so I used Daemon-Spawn Tiefling as his base race. His class levels are (essentially) Ogerkin/Antipaladin.
Not really sure what I'm going to to do with him next level. Kineticist focusing on Fire and Negative Energy sounds pretty fun. Mesmerist is also an interesting option, and Barbarian or Bloodrager would make him truely terrifying in combat.
I'm open to suggestions really.
Nathanial Torken |
I think we're waiting to see if the guard surrenders.
Vaundour"The Gentleman"Gathlain |
Question before I post my action: Is there anybody adjacent to the guard? If I use my bomb I don't want to hit any of us.
the Shining Host |

Yes - Grumble, Xoruk, and Pyotr are all adjacent to the Guard.

To speed things up I think I am going to institute a 72 hour posting rule. If you do not post in 72 hours, I will DMPC you in combat or simply move along with the scene in a non-combat scenario.
I think this will help the posting rate and increase thread interest in general.
the Shining Host |
GM, have you considered a Block Initiative system? I find they speed up play by post games a lot.
I did not, run it by me, not sure I have heard of an initiative system described as such.
Nathanial Torken |
Ah, it's the same as how I run my game.
Have all players roll initiative normally (or roll for them). Have enemies only roll once, then they all act on that roll. For example.
Wizard Init: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (2) + 3 = 5
Rogue Init: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (8) + 7 = 15
Fighter Init: 1d20 ⇒ 7
Cleric Init: 1d20 ⇒ 1
Bard Init: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (18) + 5 = 23
Enemy Init: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (19) + 1 = 20
Init Order
Bard
Enemy
Rogue
Fighter
Wizard
Cleric
First the bard acts.
Then all of the enemies act.
Then the initiative order becomes this.
Init Order
Rogue
Fighter
Wizard
Cleric
Bard
Enemy
So now all of the PCs and all of the enemies act in "blocks" so we never have to wait on somebody to post.
the Shining Host |
I guess my only concern is having all players or all villains go first in a round. If you have all used it in other games I am happy to use it here, I can also roll intitiatives for all players, that I have seen in other games I have played in.
Any objections to using this style? Note that most of these DMPC's are going to fade away once we get past this initial part of the story so it will just be the 6 of you and the mount moving forward.
Nathanial Torken |
It isn't perfectly balanced. Sometimes the enemies all go last or all go first. Often I roll up "bosses" with separate initiatives than the mooks.
Nathanial Torken |
Shining Host, I accidentally posted with my default alias in gameplay. Could you mark that alias as an NPC please?
