She's quiet for a moment as she looks over at Shamara, "Like I said, it was no difficulty. You're...welcome." She seems to have a hard time with the words, as well as the sentiment as if she's not used to them.

Skaar’s belly rumbles again, more loudly than before, as the scent of cooking meat fills the air.

”Where’re ya from?” the big Orc asks in hopes that conversation will distract him from his hunger until the food is ready. ”We’ve only seen one town ‘round here and you don’t look like the people we saw there.”

After dinner, Nicatha retires early to her bedroll. She lies there meditating her head haloed by the phases of the moon. In her mind she chants,

Father Moon, illuminate me. Father Moon, shine down on my path. Father Moon, reveal to me my destiny. Father Moon, illuminate me. Father Moon, shine down on my path. Father Moon, reveal to me the will of the night. Father Moon, illuminate me. Father Moon, shine down on my path. Father Moon, grant me the vision and strength to transcend fate.

A triad of three is the strongest invocation she knows. Nicatha hopes it would be enough to dream dreams of power.

Scooting closer to Shamara she puts an arm around the cat and scratches her behind the ears. Resting one hand on the cats head, she uses the other to point towards the west, or what you can gather is the west.

"A city called Lidande....it's a ways from here in that direction, but...that's not where I'm going." She points off towards the northeast, "I'm headed towards some mountains in that direction."

Reaching over she turns the meat a few times on the spit, and turns the vegetables over.

"What's in the mountains?" Skaar grunts as he stares transfixed by the sizzling meat.

"We're lookin' for someone that knows 'bout magic and s!#% - someone that'll know how to move between worlds so we can get home. You know anyone like that?"

Female Fetchling Ranger 6 HP: 51/51; AC: 20, T: 16, FF: 15; Init: +7; Fort: +7, Ref: +10, Will: +1

"Well....as for your question about the mountains....a dragon. As for the other question...I'm not sure....I...I wasn't allowed to know about magic. Father didn't deem it a necessary part of my...lessons." As she mentions her father, her voice takes on a different quality and while she doesn't fully realize it, she scowls at some inner thought.

Skaar eyes grow wide at the girl's answers.

"A dragon? Dragon's know all about magic. Maybe he can help us."

The big Orc picks up on the frustration. Sounds like problems were her family...

Female Fetchling Ranger 6 HP: 51/51; AC: 20, T: 16, FF: 15; Init: +7; Fort: +7, Ref: +10, Will: +1

She laughs loudly at his assumption. Once she has herself under control again she says, "I highly doubt it would be willing to help you with anything though. Umbral dragons are not known for their....hospitality or helpfulness. I'm being sent there to kill it before it creates even more havoc. Father considers it to be a nuisance and has sent me to deal with it."

Skaar frowns at the explanation. He didn't knew little about dragons and less about umbral dragons but the girl seemed to know what she was talking about. They'd need to find another way.

"A nuisance?" he repeats in disbelief. "A dragon?"

"Your father some kinda wizard? Maybe he can help us get home."

Female Fetchling Ranger 6 HP: 51/51; AC: 20, T: 16, FF: 15; Init: +7; Fort: +7, Ref: +10, Will: +1

"Father's business is his own....he's just...father. However, if I go back home without that dragons head....well...let's just say it'd be better to let the dragon eat me than do that." She shudders at the thought of her father's displeasure and possible consequences.

Female Fetchling Ranger 6 HP: 51/51; AC: 20, T: 16, FF: 15; Init: +7; Fort: +7, Ref: +10, Will: +1

She tries to shake off those thoughts and gets up. Going over to the meat she takes her knife and slides it into the meat. When only a little pink juice comes out she nods her head. Going over to the vegetables she sticks her knife in them as well. When it goes through without a problem she declares the meal ready and lets them help themselves to as much as they want.

Sitting back down next to Shamara, she hugs her knees up to her chest and remains quiet. Shamara nudges her with her nose, Rajni pets her and then puts her arm around the cat's shoulders. Shamara purrs and stretches, forcing Rajni to relax so that she can lay across her lap for more affection. Rajni's facial expression lightens somewhat at Shamara's insistence of being petted.

Skaar eats wordlessly and with gusto, sucking in strips of the sizzling venison between breathes. He pauses only on occasion to grunt his approval and nod at their hostess.

"Thanks- I needed some meat-"

After he's eaten a bit more than his fill, the big Orc belches loudly and leans back. "That hit the spot."

Zia shared Skaar's skepticism, but perhaps not for the same reasons. Like Nicatha, she sensed something was off. The woman is unstable. And good with a bow. And has a large beast about her.

Zia had been part of circus performances and the like before. She knew a thing or two about keeping animals happy. Yet there was a greater than average bond between these two. She dare not cross them. Yet, anyway.

"Rajni, could this dragon be seen as a demon to the people of this land?" Hopefully, that was a connection they could use.

Sparingly helping herself to the meat, Zia takes a light dinner while she relaxes.

Female Fetchling Ranger 6 HP: 51/51; AC: 20, T: 16, FF: 15; Init: +7; Fort: +7, Ref: +10, Will: +1

Rajni looks up at Zia, aside from her pupil-less blue glowing eyes, not much can be seen of her features. She absentmindedly strokes Shamara's head while she contemplates Zia's Question.

Nodding at Skaar's thanks she shrugs, "Uummm....I'm not really sure. I'm not allowed to really socialize very much....outside of father's approved list of associates anyways. All I know....is that I've been asked to kill it...so I will, or I'll die trying. Either way...I'm not going home until either it's dead, or I am." There is no inflection or emotion in her voice, just a this is the way things are, sound to it. She laughs a bit humorlessly then, "Well....I guess if I'm dead I don't have to worry about going home." Shamara makes a grumbling sound and snorts, pushing her head into Rajni's chest.

Rajni strokes the cat again, "It'll be fine Shamara, stop fussing."

Female Fetchling Ranger 6 HP: 51/51; AC: 20, T: 16, FF: 15; Init: +7; Fort: +7, Ref: +10, Will: +1

Come on now Z....the kitty isn't that big. She's still relatively young, so she's only about 3ft high or so when standing on all fours. I probably should have found a younger leopard picture to use, but that's pretty much Shamara will end up looking like once fully grown."

Nicatha:
As you dream, you see a muscular man toiling in a field, his skin is as black as the darkest night and it adorned with many tattoos, ranging from a deep orange to a bright white. The sky above is equally dark, solely illuminated by a bright full moon. The wheat in the field is pushed to and fro by an unseen wind. The man turns and smiles at you.

"Good night, Nicatha. I am Father Moon," he says as he picks up his hoe and begins to dig a trench in the field. "You have called and I have come. You wish to know your destiny and your fate. Look around you at this field and it can tell you much. The sky..."

He gestures a taut and rippling arm at the heavens above him. "The sky can tell you nothing. It is impartial, a witness to all things regardless. But the earth, that is where the answers lie. Look about you and see the wheat that brushes against your skin. Many things led to the growth of such a plant. You cannot argue against its value. But even fully-grown wheat can be poor in quality."

He turns up some dry soil with his hoe. "This is bad land, nothing will grow here. But a persistent person could try, with water and fertilizer and care, to make this land fertile. It is more than just land or just water or just fertilizer or just the seed that ensures that the wheat will grow."

He places the blade of the hoe in the dirt and leans on the handle. "What have you sown, Nicatha? How have you tended to your crops? Are your eyes turned skyward, praying for rain, while your bounty withers at your feet? And, finally, what will you reap? These answers are yours and yours alone."

He picks up his tool once more and walks away, fading into the darkness. "Do not expect others to till your soil. A field worthy of praise takes one's sweat, tears and blood."

Silver eyes flash open in the night. Hands darker than night scrabble and claw in the accursed earth. Perspective. That be what I have been given.

What did she know? A drought had seen her exiled from palaces and from the nobility that was her mother's birthright. Such things did not come from nowhere. She had been sent north by shadows and half promises. No she was trapped in a curse of a cursed land. In the past, she had always avoided calling on the spirit who others said -- but she had never believed -- to be her father. Always had she preferred to dabble with the spirits of darkness and shadow, even the great pain spirit had been less frightening to her, than calling out for those her people called her Baba. If her baba the moon be, then why had he never come for her? Why had he left her amongst the mud people with their fear and mistrust? Yet the first time she had called his name, he had answered.

Suddenly, with painful clarity she remembered her last dream of power. Daughter, awaken to your birthright. The moon dies and is reborn. This is my cycle. This is your destiny.

Her father, if her father he be, did not believe in easy answers. The Moon it appeared believed in cultivation, blood, life, and death. While the shadows had offered her an easy path -- never be seen, take what you desire -- the Moon spoke of the oldest of things. The night she knew never spoke with only one voice. It unlike the day, was filled with many spirits, lesser and greater. Whose voice would she heed?

Closing her eyes, she did not call upon the spirits for aid -- this was a task for her. If she was half spirit, if she was truly the daughter of the Moon, then being a holy virgin was only one part of who she was. Concentrating, she imagined the waking world under the light of the moon. She could see it spill down over the entirety Zahrvoma. She had seen the maps. She knew this land of curses. This was not simply the moon, it was her right eye. But she did not only have one eye, she had two. She concentrated harder: to both maintain her connection to the waking moon, but also to open her left eye to see what the shadow moon saw.

Knowledge (Planes and Geography): 1d20 + 8 + 20 ⇒ (14) + 8 + 20 = 42, Trance: 1d6 ⇒ 5 Nicatha is trying to visualize the correspondences between this bound shadow over Zahrvoma and Zahrvoma itself. If her intuition is correct then each spot on either plane relates to another spot on the other plane.

Female Fetchling Ranger 6 HP: 51/51; AC: 20, T: 16, FF: 15; Init: +7; Fort: +7, Ref: +10, Will: +1

Rajni then stretches and yawns, "Well, I think Shamara and I will be going to bed now. I have a long way to go tomorrow before I make camp again. You're welcome to stay here tonight, it's fairly safe." She stands up after Shamara gets off of her, and walks over to her tent. "I'll see if I can't catch something in the morning suitable for your morning meal. Shamara likes to hunt first thing in the mornings anyways. Goodnight." With that she heads into the tent and closes the flaps. It takes her only a few minutes to set up the bedroll, and then she and Shmara settle down for the night.

After several moments of concentration, Nicatha realizes that the group is no longer on the shadowed version of Zahvroma but elsewhere in the world.

If anyone has anything else to say to Rajni before she goes into the tent, feel free to. No one said anything about going with her to slay a dragon, so she's figuring that she's going to do it by herself. Of course that's totally fine too. :oP I'm sure getting eaten by a dragon doesn't hurt that much. LOL

Whew. Did not to be on some other prime material world. Though this likely means that the planar change I detected earlier signifies that we are not in a liminal space between the two planes anymore.

Nicatha closes her inner eyes and opens her outer ones. Curious and curiouser. One thing be clear: Father Moon wants me to live my life and tend my own garden. It be time I head the Moon instead of turning to the shadows.

Rolling to her feet she walks over to Skaar's pallet and shakes him awake.

"Two things you should know. The shadow world is a reflection of the waking world. Some say all waking worlds. We no longer be in the shadow of Zahrvoma, but somewhere else on our world. Second, we should aid this young woman against the dragon she seeks."

Skaar grunts in surprise as he’s woken. Seeing it’s Nicatha, a grin forms between his thick tusks – it’d finally happened…

The hulking greenskin's growing arousal is swiftly squashed by the dusky-skinned beauty’s talk of shadow-realms and dragons.

”Ya, I was thinkin’ ‘bout that. She seems strong but I couldn’t let her go off and face somethin’ like that alone. It’s funny – Corda and I talked ‘bout me wrestlin’ a dragon someday. ‘Looks like that’s gunna be sooner rather than later.”

Laughing, at least the rest of you have a choice. When her "father" asks her to do something, it not be a "request", it be a demand. Failure to comply...well, his displeasure would be worse for her than anything that dragon could do to her. It's okay, you'll find out in the morning a little more about her. Zia headed to bed without too much more to the woman. She didn't know what to make of her. In the morning, the rose and stretched.

They're right. She's gone.

"I was a bit unnerved by her anyway," Zia confessed. "Let's hope she was telling the truth earlier about this place though."

After giving the place a once over for any suspicious signs, she practiced her art as she did each morning before breaking her fast. A lilting, minor tune filled the camp:

O'er the hills and under the sky,
my eyes - they watch the clouds go by.
Silver and high, threatening gloom,
Can the air foretell my doom?

Rickety creak, squeak goes the key,
the door - they come in to get me.
Pulled to my feet, battered and beat,
a sip of ale my final treat.

Swift winds blow East!
My final feast.
In sacrifice,
my only life.

A walk through the town, my eyes on the ground.
I know they watch me all around.
Judgment and shame, infamous my name.
Fam'ly, never I'll see, again.

Heretical witch! Usurper bi+ch!
Betrayal and heartbreak itch.
Scandalous whore! Strumpet and more,
The wind blows waves upon the shore.

Swift winds blow North!
Buffeting forth.
In sacrifice,
my only life.

Walking up the stairs, I was then aware,
the man I loved, I saw his hair.
Blown in the breeze, hanging with ease,
his eyes, they seemed to taunt and tease.

His freedom so sweet, shackles on my feet.
Command he gave with no retreat:
"Bring her to the cliff!" Strong winds were stiff.
Above the cleansing pit I sniffed.

Swift winds blow West!
Harsh on my breast.
In sacrifice,
my only life.

Then his wife showed with his heir in tow.
My son, our son, infant aglow.
With jewels and care, blissf'lly unaware -
his mother's final hours were there.

At first I cursed twice, and then I cursed thrice.
The "harlot's" hexes did suffice
to hasten her fall - pushed with some gall.
The flames found bellows in the squall

Swift winds blow South!
Pleas from my mouth.
In sacrifice,
my only life.

As the world burned, emotions churned
of lords, of ladies - those they spurned.
Blood boiling inside, my eyes liquified,
I saw with gods how then I died.

'twas then the rain came, cleansing my name
But the outcome would be the same.
Scorched outside and in, cloaked in blackened skin,
Love is the ultimate sin.

The winds have stopped!
Fires simmered then stopped!
In sacrifice,
my only life.

My breath at an end,
my care for a friend,
in sacrifice,
my futile life.

"That be a beautiful song, Zia. Sad, yet also beautiful. It reminds me of the story of Issa, the panther queen. But that is a spider story, for all stories belong to him, and I would not draw his attention for we in enough trouble already."

Skaar listens quietly, enjoying the song and the view in equal measure.

When it's done, the big Orc snaps back to attention. He grunts and nods in agreement. "Ya..."

I hope Rajni isn't gone for too long. We might have to send a search party. =P

She's only gonna be gone about an hour....sheesh

knowledge Nature: to see if she can find any naturally growing spices for the meat: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (7) + 8 = 15

Taking a 20 for my Survival check to take down a large wild boar for the group. Good thing she has rope cuz she's gonna have to drag that sucker back. LOL

With her knowledge of the surrounding area and wild herbs, she's able to find a decent amount of Rosemary, Thyme, and Sage. Once the boar is dead she uses part of the rope to tie it up, and the other part along with some pieces of wood to fashion a make shift pallet to drag it on. This way the boar isn't dragged on the ground. Once she has that done, she gathers up some of the herbs, enough to last a while and puts them in her back pack along with some more vegetables and edible mushrooms.

After about an hour or so, the others see her and Shamara coming back to camp through the trees. She's dragging something largish and Shamara has a dead badger in her mouth.

I'm really sorry, but that's all I'm gonna be able to do for now. Hope everyone has a good night. Henry will keep posting updates as I get them.

Before Rajni returns, Nicatha inquires, "Zia, I think it be wise if we kept our hostess alive on her quest. She knows more of this plane than we do, and you might be able to persuade the dragon to return us to the waking world. Do you agree?"

Skaar's attention did not escape Zia.

However, hers turned more to Nicatha with her postulate. "Thank you. Keeping people alive is not my specialty, but from what I've seen, she can defend herself quite well. I would be happy to talk to this dark dragon to see about our return though."

Skaar laughs at the sight of Rajni returning with the boar - not because it was ridiculous but because he was right. She really was away hunting breakfast! The big Orc eagerly moves forward to help the girl maneuver her kill into the camp and get it cleaned.

Fresh bacon was the best way to start the day.

She smiles a bit nervously as the Orc approaches to help her with her large load. Being careful not to let him get too close to her, or touch her, she steps aside to let him take her catch that lays on her crudely fashioned pallet. She nods her thanks and the half smile she gave...seemed almost forced, as if she isn't used to smiling at all. Appreciative of his assistance, she takes some of the spices that she had gathered and lays them in a leaf on a rock to dry out. Once the boar is bled out and cleaned, she takes a little from each of the spices and crushes them in her hand before rubbing it all over the meat. While she does this, Shamara takes her own kill and lays down to tear into it.

With Skaar's help, they get the boar cut into portions and onto skewers. Once the pig starts roasting, she takes the vegetables and edible mushrooms out of her back pack and starts wrapping them in the heavy leaves as she did the night before. After the meat has had a little time, she puts the wrapped parcels into the pit as well.

Wiping her brow she looks at the Orc, "Tha...thanks for that, he was quite the hefty fellow. If there's enough left over, perhaps there's a way you could pack it up and take it with you? This way you don't have to be so hungry later on." She shrugs slightly, "Like I said before, I don't usually do the cooking, I'm just guessing at here. If you don't like it, or don't want to take it with you, I can help you find things that you can carry with you easily enough."

I should have mentioned before...but you always see her with her bow, but never a quiver, or arrows of any kind.
