Juraan Level 10 changes:

• +1 level sorcerer (Eldritch Knight would've meant only one cantrip in the sorcerer department)
• FCB: +1 level 3 spell
• Spells: Arcane Mark (cantrip), and Haste (level 3)
• Adventuring Skills (+1 each): Perception, Sense Motive, Spellcraft, Survival, and Use Magic Device
• Background Skills (+1 each): Craft (Alchemy), Profession (Herbalist)

Woop woop, checking in yet again. Hopefully the forums will hold steady for longer than a day or two this time? Got an early dinner-date with the hubs so I'll catch up with Gameplay a bit later this evening!

I hope the site stays stable too...

Oh well, at least it gave me a chance to review ancient Greek and Latin grammar a bit more the last couple of weeks (like, big whoop, eh?)

AND I even got to hang out in the dentist's office for another root canal!

Oh joy, oh rapture! :P

Iron Gods: Iron maps;

Oh that hurts!

One year of Latin was compulsory at the High School here until just recent. I had a very hard time with it Rosa rosae :P

Male Human Sorcerer (inactive)

It's even more fun with Attic Greek. Which uses contractions and accents. A lot!

It is satisfying when you start understanding what you're reading in Latin or Greek.
Even if it is difficult to translate it properly.

You know, I've actually always thought Latin would be kinda cool to learn - even if it is a dead language.

Then again I live in the US where most places really start way too late on teaching kids any sort of foreign language. My options in high school were Spanish or German and so I went with German. I *think* my husband's high school (next town down the road) offered those and maybe French? But I'm not 100% sure. And of course there's more options when you go to college, depending on which college you go to.

Iron Gods: Iron maps;

Problem with languages is people really need to have a motivation to want to use them, and then to find a reason to use them regularly, if not you quickly forget how to use them.

For me English was a motivation at first because 80's and 90's videogames were never translated, and I loved Zelda and graphical adventures like Maniac Mansion or Indiana Jones. Later on I started to read Dragonlance and Forgotten Realms, and some of those books I would only find in English. Then I somehow decided I was interested into French girls and started learning French, which was much easier to learn than English given my native languages. During those 4 years I got very interested into French culture, while my English crumbled to ashes without even noticing. Just until I needed to study abroad in The Netherlands, so suddenly restoring my English was a must. There I built up worldwide relationships with Asian, African and South American people and my English just rocketed up. That was when I decided my interest on girls was shifting to Dutch ones. Oh dear, how fast you can get into a language when you are in love! But then I met my actual wife, which is an excellent English and Spanish speaker. My Dutch has been almost wiped out, but fortunately my English keeps fluent thanks to social relations, work, roleplaying and OV movies interest (and some reading). I try to keep up with my French, reading a book from time to time, but it really takes an effort compared to how much reasons I have to practice English. My Dutch has been almost entirely wiped out :( and I am somehow on the way to learn Russian, but I do never really get to it...

So, just have a reason to learn a language, and find a way to maintain it. It is then just so much fun, specially when you can use it to meet and talk with people of other cultures!

Male Human Sorcerer (inactive)

When I first learned Latin, we were told it would improve our English (or whatever your first language is).

We were sceptical. But it's true!

When you're dealing with languages with very different grammar, you really do have to start paying attention to that grammar stuff.
Literal translations can just become ... weird.
Here's a (sort of) simple example from my Greek text (Athenaze):
"τὸ ἐν τῇ ὑδρίᾳ ὕδωρ"
The literal translation is "the in the water jug"
But it really means "the water is in the jug"

Learning how to type Polytonic Greek was lots of fun.
Mostly because letters can have up to three accents. EACH!
Fun, fun fun! :P

GM-R, Ryan doesn't know if his petition will work or not and I'm under no illusion as to wether or not Abadar will grant the petition just seemed like a good variation of a spell/grace he had used before, and a viable reason for the fellowship to haul Alek with them and not straight back to Jenya or the first temple of healing they can find.

My daughter made it through 13? days of class before UNCW closed down classes for the hurricane. Welcome to Wilmington, it's her freshman year.

@ Ryan: I had to look Wilmington up, being on the wrong side of the continent and all.

Hope everyone's okay there. Doesn't look like there are any natural barriers to that sort of storm...

Had to go to Vancouver for the long weekend.
Mum's birthday. And a wake as well.

I had a small fall and hurt my back. It is just muscular pain and I should be fully healed by next week or so according to three different doctors and three different analytics, but it has been a real effort to come here and update for the last days (its slowly getting better).

I was just hoping waiting a bit to hear from Ryan at least, but I felt this should wait no more.

Good thing about Shackled City is there is plenty of community material out there. I just found some good stuff and thought it fit very well with Marigold's character background and options.

So that is, I would hate to get all the merit, there is plenty of work from some anonymous GM's that shared their work. I just tinker it slightly to better fit our table ;)

I will give some extra time for the group to wrap up the conversation and start walking again towards the Cathedral
