What the heck does dot mean?
Depends on who you talk to. Newton used it to mean derivative with respect to time, it's commonly used today for the scalar product of two vectors, and less commonly to indicate the multiplication operator.

Yes, a successful Knowledge (nobility) roll might prove most enlightening. ;)
While being the House that provides a bride whose marriage seals the peace treaty would be most prestigious, being the House that provided a FAILED bride would be a huge blow to a noble family's prestige - and a prime opportunity for old rivals to have a go at you.
Far easier to just disassociate yourself from said failed bride... or do something else to make it clear that you do not approve of her failings.
And can she take 10 on the check?

Oh, yeah. Scads of fun. The molar was decaying from the inside out, so it broke in pieces, which had to be extracted. Fortunately, the roots were all very healthy, so they needed to be drilled out. So much fun, yaaay...

Fortunately, I was numbed up. They don't knock you out for dental surgery over here. ^^;
