The Seekers FR Campaign Page

Game Master Toine

Male Human Techie 3 / Dungeon Master 1 / Jelly Doughnut 5

I wanted to get the campaign page up and running for this game. Matt, when you have an alias complete for this game can you post as it here so I can get a look at it?

Theo and (maybe) Brad - You'll need to register on the board for this game. Once you've created a profile you should create an alias (like a profile within your main login) and post details of your PC in there. For an example of what that can look like (it has everything your character sheet would) see below. Theo if you email me a scan of the sheet we worked up for you I'll replicate it digitally using some character generator software and email you the text so you can add it to your page (without typing everything).

Male Tiefling Wizard (Divination: Foresight) 1

This is Gax. Click his name to see his character info page.

Female Kitsune Bard (Dervish Dancer) 2

I have my account registered, and I am working on my bio and such.

I guess I will see how play by posts work by taking a look at another of your games?

Male Elf Ninja: 1

Profile completed.

Looks great Matt. Did you add any traits? I didn't see any and you get two. Also, I thought I'd suggest that maybe Stanizlaus is from the mountains surrounding Evereska, and eventually moved there for his training. While elves are very common in the setting and are a substantial portion of the population in many cities and countries, Evereska might be a good place for your PC, as it is one of the few remaining elven strongholds in Faerun, the contentent where most of the story will take place.

I think it might work because there is a uniformity to the population of that region and they have a long history of conflict with outsiders (orcs, drow miscellaneous monster armies). The city of Evereska is heavily fortified and defended so it is not hard to imagine that the elves there are hostile enough to outsiders for the discrimination in the story you wrote to occur. Also, the place is physically beautiful (soaring towers, magically sculpted forests surrounding the fortress, large reflecting pools and fountains, and well manicured gardens) so someone like Stanizlaus may have developed some resentment toward the shallowness and superficiality of the people who built it. It is also cosmopolitan enough for Stanizlaus to have been trained there (they have colleges there for arcane and martial - so Stanizlaus may have had someone there to train him).

I did take traits, they are listed with my feats. I took reactionary and into enemy territory. As for the locale I chose, I took an alternate racial trait that gives me fire resist 5, and it suggests in the alt trait list that it could come about due to living in hostile environments. I don' particularly mind changing it, but I will have to do it later. I will be working on a ton of school work until about Thursday.

I think you can keep the alternate racial trait, that's why I suggested the mountains near Evereska - so that your toon could be from a volcanic area in the mountains.

Oh, by "it" I meant background. I think that having my character from Evereska is fine. But like I said, gonna be busy till the latter half of the week.

I've posted to start the campaign. I'm dangling two very different plot threads and it's up to your character to work out which they will follow - or they could follow neither and look for more plot threads.

A note on style -

Bold text is typically your characters speech said Toine. He then stands up to demonstrate that actions are usually done in regular text.

Also, you can talk out of character like this he whispers.

Include rolls in your posts. DM attempts sense motive to see if his players understand. 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (20) + 5 = 25. If you are attacking include both attack roll and damage roll in post to speed play. Attack 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (15) + 5 = 20 and damage 1d6 + 5 ⇒ (6) + 5 = 11.

Describe what your character attempts to do, not what your character does. I fill in the details of the effects based on your roles.

So don't write something like: Toine shoots the demon in the heart causing it to puke its stomach up and die.

Instead: Player Toine shoots at the demon, [insert attack and damage rolls here].

DM: The demon easily dodges the attack and laughs at Toine's pitiful attack.

Finally, and this is not a requirement, I like it if you say away from writing from the first person. I think everything flows together better if it's mostly from the third person.

Acceptable: I shoot a flaming arrow at the demon.

Better: Toine shoots a flaming arrow at the demon.

If we all write in the third person you can read all the posts together as a story more easily. It's like we're collectively writing a novel, with dice.

Also, yes, I'm aware the first entry I wrote in the game is in the second person (I say "you" a lot). Just think of posts like that as a prologue - something that gets you into character.

I'm really excited with this game already. I'm interested to see what happens with the plot threads I'm dangling.

Also - How am I doing with my DMing? I've been writing long description filled posts because I like this as a storyteller - and I am in love with the Forgotten Realms setting and I really like being able to use its locations as sets and props for my story.

I'm also trying to streamline some things so the game doesn't get bogged down like some play by posts can, but in order to do that I've automated some things (Matt doesn't have to describe every step of Stanizlaus' walk to Ulruant's office and I'm doing some knowledge rolls in the background and just telling you things your PC would know). If I get overbearing and am denying you Role Playing opportunities, let me know and we'll adjust things. Also, as far as me automating a lot of knowledge rolls - don't hesitate to ask if your PC knows something or to take additional knowledge rolls - I may not have considered everything and I won't have thought to include everything.

I really want this to be a "sandbox" game where you guys get a lot of room to take my general plot (seekers of ancient knowledge in a troubled fantasy world) and take it your own directions.

Male Elf Ninja: 1

suits me just fine.

Female Kitsune Bard (Dervish Dancer) 2

I am liking it a lot, especially the details!

Male Elf Ninja: 1

Slow game makes me sad :(
Is everything ok?

Male Elf Ninja: 1

Are we going to need to boot Theo from the game and recruit someone?

Male Human Techie 3 / Dungeon Master 1 / Jelly Doughnut 5

I hope not. He said he'd post when I saw him last, so I'm reluctant to bring the ban hammer, but the game can't go on this slow forever.

Female Kitsune Bard (Dervish Dancer) 2

Okay guys, I appreciate your patience... I know I have been a big hold up in this. I really enjoy playing and want to continue, so I will be posting tonight (writing it currently).

I forget to do things a lot (as you know) so thank you for giving me time. Sorry for it all.

Post incoming! (and more afterward...)
