Sharla Glasob |
"Thanks." Sharla says, moving over to the doors. She checks the small, nearest one first.

Galenus |
Galenus peers over Sharla's shoulder, inquisitive to her work.
Varus Arminius |
sry. been sick. still am.
Varus comes back into the room, nodding to himself at his wisdom of staying outside. Sizing up Sharla's injuries, he shakes his head. "Fah! If you had suffered something egregious, I would spend grace upon thee, but such a scratch as this does not warrant the expenditure.
Still, now that we have that out of the way, perhaps we can move on to meatier subjects."
Varus assists as he can, peering about and making helpful suggestions...whether wanted or not.
Aiding, giving Advantage to Sharla so you can roll again for both of those. Also, sorry, but if you're not down by at least 8 hp we'd likely waste hp.
Sharla Glasob |
Thanks for the advantage! Don't worry about the healing, I was expecting something that would down her. Technically, if you go by 4e rules, Sharla wouldn't even be properly injured until she was at 6 hp or less (less than half health was 'bloodied.')
Perception: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (4) + 2 = 6
Investigation: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 = 3
Sharla Glasob |
"Wires inside. Probably a trap." Sharla says. She thinks for a second, before going and grabbing one of the set up crossbows at the main door. If she can, she moves them so the the bolt will go into the crack (removing the head if need be) and hopefully sever the wires. She then backs off, and pulls the rope to trigger it.
GM Grey |
The crossbows already fired, their bolts spent. Himalt see's Sharla looking around for a crossbow bolt and hands her one of his for his light crossbow.
Approaching the door and using it like an improvised tool, she tries to cut the wires.
I'm going to need a dex (thieves tools) check with disadvantage for using improvised tools.
Where's everyone else during this?
Galenus |
Trying to peer over Sharla's shoulder while also keeping out of range of any trap backfiring.
Sharla Glasob |
Well, here goes. Stand back everyone!
Improvised tools +jack of all trades: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (6) + 3 = 9
Disadvantage: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (4) + 3 = 7
Damnit! These dice hate me!
Varus Arminius |
As Sharla bends over to -another- trap, Varus gets to the opposite corner of the room, putting space between she and him.
But as the door swings out, the trap apparently sprung, he rushes forward, a healing spell forming on his lips.

GM Grey |
The door springs open moments just after you get completely clear of it, a large crash slamming from the room. She completely avoids all harm.
You see a large hammer set into the ceiling of the room behind it. It had swung down from a rig to slam into the door, popping the door open off of a very loose knob bolt.
The room beyond is short, and walled off. A makeshift, improvised wooden wall has been set up, limiting the room beyond the a corridor thin and long enough to fit the hammer's swing range behind the door.
The door slams against the wall between this door and the next.
Varus Arminius |
Varus' curiosity is piqued by the revelation of the new room. "I would council that we try to take down that false wall. It looks weak enough that Anders should be able to hack through it in a trice!
And, if we make noise and they try to swarm us here, we have a choke point and a defensible position. 'Tis a win-win!
Have at it!"
For his part, Varus keeps a sharp eye on the only door out, making sure they are not taken unawares.
Then he thinks of it and suggests that Himalt do the same.
Galenus |
Galenus gets out of Anders way!
GM Grey |
Anders and Himalt bash down the wall with only a bit of time lost. It is fairly noisy, and you think someone within the building could easily have heard you, and has had some time to prepare.
Past the makeshift wall is a small corridor and a door leading to the next section. The small corridor itself shows that of each of the three doors from the room you just left (the one with the three chests and three doors), ALL THREE DOORS have been barricaded up like the one you just burst through. The far right door, the one with a crude stick-person drawn on it, has an open panel allowing free passage.
The single door rests in a stone wall, presumably going further into this building.
Galenus |
Huh. They blocked all of them. Well, let's see what's going on with that stone door. Sharla, want to check it out?
Sharla Glasob |
Sharla goes to inspect the door.
Perception: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (16) + 2 = 18
"You know, in another life, I could have been a great thief."She says conversationally.

Scene - Iggzock's Workshop, Area 2
Sharla opens the next door to reveal a largish room. It looks like a dividing wall has been torn down, turning two smaller rooms into this larger room.
The room is of the same construction as the rest of the building, same wooden floors, same stone walls, same wooden ceiling.
Two doors stand in the left wall, one in each "building" chunk.
Features
The room looks to be a large workshop. There are big, sturdy looking desks made out of raw materials. Upon these desks are all manner of different contraptions.
There are crates and barrels. Some that are opened appear to be filled with metal components. One appears to have dismantled crossbow components.
In the center of the room is a full-scale ballista, a massive, base-mounted crossbow armed with a single, longspear sized bolts. Three more bolts stand in a rack against the wall.
The nearest door is barred with a heavy wooden beam. The far door is surrounded by suspicious looking holes. Painted on the far door is a red-painted stick figure of a bloody orc getting stabbed with several black-painted spears.
Occupants
None obvious.
Varus Arminius |
Varus whistles softly at the impressive technical apparatus in evidence.
"Well! This is certainly beyond the pervue of the common orc! And, from the...art...in evidence, it seems that the good scientist is no fan of the orcs himself!
I hope we can find him, and that he still lives. If we could make contact with the kind of person that created all this, and in this environment no less, well, he might be the greatest ally we could find!
...not to mention we could stop breaking his crossbows...."
Varus starts looking around in the crates and barrels, verifying their inventory.
Then he peers through the small holes in the far door. He suspects them to be murder-holes, or traps of some sort, and it's important to determine what end of the hammer they are on!
Perception!: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (5) + 3 = 8
Flint of Iron |
The barrels Varus goes through seem to include hardware of various types. Iron and steel worked into curious shapes. It reminds him somewhat of stories of gnomish and dwavern articifery. He comes away with the impression that someone who knows a bit about artifice might be able to use these components to craft strange devices, such as crossbows. Some barrels of filled with endless coils of rope. Others with nails, big and small.
I'm going to pause your doorvestigation for now as the barrel's/crates take up a bit of time. I'd like to see what everyone else does before I declare anything with you and the door.
Sharla Glasob |
Sorry, thought I posted!
Sharla moves to the near door, and inspects it. She also puts her ear to it, and sees if she can hear anything.
Perception: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (16) + 2 = 18
Galenus |
Galenus casts Detect Magic and takes a look around the room.
GM Grey |
Varus also determines that one of the barrels is about half full with lantern oil. A Pulled cork reveals its liquid contents.
Sharla goes to the near door. Nothing is audible through it, but a quick inspection of this barred-from-her-side door reveals to Sharla that this would lead back outside. A barred entrance to the workshop.
Galenus attunes his senses to the magical, and detects magic over by the work tables, something hidden amongst the contraptions. He detects evocation magic.
Anders stays near the door, keeping an eye and an ear out for trouble. As he stands, he notices that some of the flooring near the back corner of the room to his right, is loose and dirty, as if something had been buried beneath the floorboards.
Galenus |
Yeah, but let's be very careful. Maybe even move some things. There's evocation magic here, and that usually means fire. And that barrel has lantern oil. I think it's meant to pour over us then light us all up. Maybe we should move that barrel first, and keep a close eye out for traps.
Sharla Glasob |
"This door leads back outside, but it's barred from here." Sharla says, walking back to the group.
"I'm a little nervous about inspecting the far door. It looks like someone has been a little pissed off at it."
Galenus |
Galenus inspects the wand. We may have discovered a magic item!
