Tessa looks up from her search at Erick. "We aren't lugging this one around with us. We'll secure anything valuable or useful and leave him here. He's right by the exit, we can always open that and come back down here and get him --"

She looks back down at the body and mutters under her breath, "-assuming we're still alive and capable of doing so. Who knows what trap lays ahead for us."

Finishing patting him down she stands and says, "So much for no possible way knowing that we were coming, eh? Now then, let's be off about it. Anyone have the slightest clue where we are going?"

Erick nods. "I had not intended to drag him around with us. I merely mentioned it would be easier to keep track of his belongings for his family if you bundled it up. As to which way to go, as I said, we can go the way the murderous noble wants us to go, or I can attempt to blow the door so we can leave the way we came in. It will take the rest of my powder to do so. If we can damage the trap door enough, the very rock that prevents us lifting it should crash through it and leave us a way out. He can't possibly have moved a rock big enough to block the 3 ft square door way completely. The down side is, of course, I'll be out of powder if the attempt fails. And we might bring down part of the walls or ceiling if it goes awry. So, is it try to blow our way out, or do what the murderous noble wants?"

Gavin begins pacing the room, lighted branch illuminating the nooks, corners and crannies of the room. The young man looks for anything useful while the others talk over their options, and when a pause in the conversation happens, Gavin turns to everyone and clears his throat.

"Ahem. Well. If we blow the trapdoor, and as Erick says we use all of the explosion-powder, and the sound probably alerts whoever - or whatever - is down here with us. They or it already may be alerted, come to think about it. Erick, that explosion-tube you have is loud. As Vanthus readies to shut the trap door, in Kutsya's mind she is suddenly back in the warehouse, trapped under tons of debris.

"H-have you ever been hunted by a Spirit of V-vengeance?" the dwarf asks, voice shaking. "If you close that door, Lord V-vanderboren, you will be!"

Then the door slams shut, and everything goes dark -- at least in Kutsya's mind.

Kutsya scrambles up the wall, doing her best to climb to the exit, but even with the aid of her hair, she can't gain purchase. So she throws herself at the wall in frustration, beating at it with her braids, breaking off countless shards of brick, screaming curses at Vanthus until she is hoarse and panting.

Only then does she begin to listen to her companions.

There is no weapon in his back. There is a wound, probably from a rapier, that pierced his chest near the heart and go all the way to the back perforating one of his lungs.

He has his dull and slightly bent knife and a purse with 4 gold & 5 silver. Clearly the coins you gave him minus what he spent on the tavern.

@Erick:
I'm all for getting you out of here creatively, but if you want to go on with your plan you have to elaborate on some details.
namely
1) how do you plan to reach the trapdoor
2) how to you plan to keep the gunpowder on the hinges
3) how are you going to light it up
I see the potential to make you all escape this tunnels but also the potential to see you perform the same fall that Rosk did, only with a stone trapdoor and a boulder on top.

@Gavin:
The room is completely empty, clearly just an entrance for the complex. all look like in a definite state of abandonment but you can see here and there cobwebs that have been ripped apart from the corridor and other minor traces that make you believe someone have been here in at least the last month. You can also faintly hear some kind of watery sound ahead.

Erick nods at Gavin. "Almost certainly it's loud, you get used to it. Whoever is down here, we have already alerted them, if Vanderboren hadn't already. I'd rather face them here, where we can have them come at us one at a time, honestly, rather than face them in the opposite manner." Erick looks up at the trap door. "Kutsya? You have some impressive reach with your hair, and rather a lot of dexterity with it. If we cut a foot off one of the ropes, and unravel that foot, we'd have four or five feet of twine. Does anyone have some oil? That would help. But even without it, if we tear Rosk's shirt into small strips and tie them together, we can make a fuse. Stuff one end into my powder horn, tie the horn to the hinges, and light the shirt strips. I think I could lift Kutsya on my shoulders, and her hair could reach?"

Erick suddenly laughs. "I'm an idiot. I have 5 torches in my backpack, bought them and forgot about them. I can unravel the pitch soaked twine from one of those and have an excellent fuse.

Gavin shrugs. "Very well. Let's get creative. I'll light this place up like an Absalom street for you all to work by, and then take watch." Walking around the room, Gavin casts light along the walls every 5 or so feet, creating a well-lit workspace/entry hall. He then takes his lit branch, and casting light on it again, creeps down the hall at the corner of the hallway where it jogs west from north. Hastily, if he doesn't get eaten on the way the man young places the branch on the floor and then retreats back to the entrance to the hall, and peeking his head around the corner, looks for threats coming for the group.

Gavin will station himself where his icon currently is on the map, peeking his head around the corner to look for threats. The lighted branch he places on the floor 10 feet up from where Erick's icon is. Every 10 minutes when the spell runs out, Gavin will creep back up and cast the light spell on the branch, and then retreat back to his sentry spot.

Tessa stands up from searching the dead man and shakes her head, "Just the coin we gave him to get us here. We should just leave him be until we can return and focus our efforts on escaping."

Assuming Tessa doesn't see any signs of an obvious trap she looks to Erick and says, "I'd prefer you didn't shoot that thing again with us in the tunnel. The first time was deafening and not only alerted whomever we are in the tunnels with but likely has diminished our capability to hear anything. Let's take a moment to regroup and then press on. It's obvious he wanted us to go this way and it is very unlikely to be an easy exit from this ... place. We will need to have our wits about us."

She nods to Gavin, "Thank you for the lights, I assume we are going to want to have our hands free and at the ready."

With that she withdraws her blade and looks back at the group for a consensus.

Hand of the Mage is range 30 ft minimum, 25 + 5 per 2 levels, 30 ft minimum

Erick rubs his chin. "The explosion isn't going to be big enough to cause issues, the issue is going to be not being under the rocks. You'd need to be hugging the wall in the hallway looking up, so you don't get crushed. If you hold it against the hinges while the fuse burns, we might get the door to collapse. The debris might make it easier to climb out. If nothing else, we might be able to fashion a grappling hook for the rope out of some of the metal from the trap door."

She eyes up the wall and follows it to the top and then looks back down again. "But seems to me there could be stairs out of this place just around the corner outta here and we are going to be planting explosives on our heads for who knows what reason."

Tessa blows out a breath exasperated. She throws up her hands and says, "I am not the one usually trying to talk sense into people. I give up, I'm in for whatever we're doing. Let's blow some s~@~ up then. I don't like being stuck in a hole."

Actually is 15 ft. of movement per move action with a distance up to the max range, which is Range close (25 ft. + 5 ft./2 levels). that means 25 ft by the way, not 30. The close range clearly specify "The spell reaches as far as 25 feet away from you. The maximum range increases by 5 feet for every two full caster levels." Bedu doesn't have 2 full caster levels

You don't see any traps on the door, and if there was one you are not sure it would still work.
The wooden door is soggy and swollen shut by the humidity of the cave.
Someone closed the door when it was already this bloated as you can tell from the abrasions on the side, but now is stuck and will require a little bit of strength to open.
Another option is to take it down, as a matter of fact both the door itself and the hinges seems to be in pretty bad condition. Breaking the door won't be harder than opening it.

Both options will require a strength check.

She picks up her blade and dusts herself off. Her cheeks color slightly and she doesn't look directly at anyone but clears her throat and looks at the door. [/b]"Ehem. Perhaps I should try that again."[/b]

Well, no response from the GM, let's try it anyway.

Erick takes a half step back (stepping over the prone Tessa), and slams a kick into the lower hinge, and then a punch with his sword hilt into the upper hinge.

Strength: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (10) + 2 = 12

Finding that didn't work, he tries again, this time kicking at the doorhandle, to see if he can slam that loose.

Strength: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (10) + 2 = 12

Finally, Erick nods. "Got it, be ready...." He shoo's Tessa out of the way, and now that he knows where the door is weakest, he does a rotating spin kick, slamming his boot into the door close to the upper hinge.

Strength: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (19) + 2 = 21

Theoretically the 21 should break it. If not, we're never getting through it.

map updated, and ... sorry for not responding to your question, I was sure I did, but apparently I didn't.

The door cracks in two pieces and gets off the hinges at the same time, falling on the floor.
You end up in a hall.
There are double doors both at the right and left end of the hall, but they deteriorated way too much.
They are wide open and barely hanging on the hinges.
Your actions doesn't seem to have gone unnoticed.
From the other side you hear groans and moans, from at least 3 different individuals approaching.
They sound barely human.
From the west you hear a watery sound and you can see even from here that part of the floor is literally flooded, and there is quite a lot of rubble around.
From that same room you can hear an unnerving and constant clicking.
You seem to have a few seconds to organize, move yourselves, hide somewhere or just prepare before the moans reach the range of your light.

LOL, no problem, been there, done that.

Erick steps to the right, and nods. "Gavin, you and me, to the right. Tessa, you and Kutsya left. Bedu, middle, healing and support." He says in short clipped tones, drawing his pistol to match his sword. He readies to shoot the first thing that comes into sight.

Not bossing people around, just playing him as a tactical type who's used to working in a quasi military way

Gavin steps up beside Erick, heart pounding, palms sweaty. His voice breaks a little as he speaks. "Everyone, I'm afraid Cayden's voice may overtake me soon. If you're hurt, fall back to me. If I'm still alive, I'll give you healing" Drawing a javelin and holding his flail in his off-hand, Gavin prepares to throw the javelin at the first thing that comes into his sight.

Moving one square to the north of Erick. Readied action to throw the javelin at the first moaning creature to appear.

If needed...

Bedu looks at his crossbow and changes over to his shield in the narrow corridor and hall. He naturally stays in the middle behind the others and waits to see which is better, spells or scimitar.

"Merciful desertflower, let us be fortunate!"

"Aye, the left." Kutsya answers, and moves to the double doors on her side of the hallway. She peers into the darkness, trusting her Dwarven sight to alert her to approaching danger. Unconsciously, she growls deep in her throat, and her braids begin to lift and tense, ready to strike if need be.

Just to confirm, are Tessa and Bedu staying in their current position on the map?

No, sorry! I thought I already posted this. My apologies guys, next time ping me if I'm not answering. Sorry if I held you up!

"Right. On it."

Tessa moves out and to the left, directly (south?) of Kutsya. With her blade at the ready she takes her position quietly and lightly bounces from one foot to the other, her nervous energy causing her to fidget slightly. Once she is in place she waits for Erick to look over at them and she gives a nods.

Updated map based on Tessa's post

Erick gives Tessa a grim nod, not liking the sound of moaning. "Here boy, we have to guard their backs while they guard ours." He points beside him, opposite of Kutsya, rather than behind him. "You have to guard Kutsya's back, I have to guard Tessa's, and Bedu tries to back up all of us."

Technically Gavin is probably a better healer, but Bedu isn't built for front line work, and he can heal and boost with bardic stuff.

@Kutsya:
From your position and with your darkvision you see the source of the clicking sound.
A few giant crabs seems to have taken residence in the room.
They don't seem willing to attack, but they seem disturbed by the zombie activity and wanting to defend their turf rather than bring the fight to you.

Finally from the shadows you see emerging three shambling corpses.
They still wear a leather armor which is now rotten and putrid.
You see them opening their mouths wider than you expect a human body to be capable of, and showing you rows of jagged teeth.
They extend their arms in your direction as starving children would when they are presented with food.
As soon as they emerge from the shadows, Gavin throws one of his javelins, but the aim is slightly off and it hits the doorway.
As the hungry dead advances you get ready to receive their assault.

Initiative posted, Erick is up.
As long as the zombies are more than 4 squares away from whoever is holding the light (I assume Gavin, but maybe I'm wrong) the zombies have concealment against everyone without darkvision or low-lightvision.
This means every time you try to hit them, you will have to roll a 1d100 and you will fail to hit on a roll of 20 or less, regardless of your attack roll result.

one of the zombies advances, as soon as he steps into the light, Erick fires at him.
The projectile buries itself deep in the undead shoulder but the hungry dead doesn't recoil at all.
Unrelenting, the undead advances towards Erick.

he only has a partial action. so he can move but not attack in the same turn. Gavin is next
