Looking at the wagons and the reaction of the crew Ryenalt comments, mostly to himself.

"Clearly an ambush, not sure if it is for us or another, but you don't get to be my age just stumbling blindly into this sort of thing. Best to be on guard"

He calls force a small ball of acid, ready to launch it at an attacker as he watches the port (left) side of the boat.

You spot what appears to be two lumps of miscolored dirt about 30 yards to the side of the waterlogged wagons on the east side of the riverbank and one about the same distance away on the west side. It would almost go beneath your notice usually but lumps of dirt that size dont well move up and down like they are breathing...usually.

Zardu Zuul:
You spot what appears to be two lumps of miscolored dirt about 30 yards to the side of the waterlogged wagons on the east side of the riverbank and one about the same distance away on the west side. From the size and shape of the dirt mounds you would gather they are very short humans or perhaps a smaller raced folk like gnomes or halflings... perhaps goblins or kobolds..

You also can easily see the two chains attached to the ends of the wagons and where they are half buried along the shore no doubt how they pull the wagons out of the way of the river traffic when they are done.

Ryenalt:
If there are bandits about they are clearly hidden much better than your eyesight. Perhaps while in Kerse new glasses are in order, though yours have served you well for many a year and you have no trouble reading your books. Maybe they are just that good. Those wagons clearly look to be in too good of shape to have been half blocking the way for too long. The must have been put there recently. Just when you were about to have given up trying to see the bandits however.. you see a mound of dirt moving up and down almost like its breathing... its darker than the surrounding land too...must be freshly moved. Its about 30 yards or so to the east of the river.

Tindertwig:
You spot what appears to be two lumps of miscolored dirt about 30 yards to the side of the waterlogged wagons on the west side of the riverbank and one about the same distance away on the west side. Its a common enough goblin trick the ol mound of muck and dirt hidey spot...only at least back in the swamps it was.... Whatever silly dirt gobs these ones must be needed retraining... it was obvious where they were at.

Liam:

A couple of small boats were set over the side to take you folk to the banks. Its not terrible difficult, however going down the rope later will take some effort.

DC 5 climb check to avoid falling... Except you Liam if you try to carry Duke down, it will be a DC 10 check for you.

Once ashore you do indeed see a set of chains that you could in theory pull to remove the obstacles enough for the river boat to easily pass through. There is no sign of the goblins nor wealth left behind.

Its a DC 20 STR check to move the obstacles, but we will take the highest roll and everyone who assists whom beats a DC 10 STR can add an additional +2 top the highest roll. You will need to do it at least twice per side of the river, although you really only need to clear one side.

Liam You can easily follow their tracks with Duke's help, if you choose to.

You have easily cleared one side of the river enough for your boat to get through. There is the wagon on the other side still in the water.

Zardu You can easily remove the wheels without damaging them with a disable device check dc 15 (and use it untrained in this case if you wish) or alternatively you could hack into it at sensitive points and destroy the wheels, axle, etc. Your choice.

And for the firebug gobl...err types out there the upper half of the wagon is actually pretty dry and old, a torche would set the problem alight pretty quickly.
