DM RyckyRych |
Rick, why is there a evil looking dude in the first room?
I was playing around with some features of Roll20, that guy never showed for me while I was doing it. Funny that he is there... he's should be gone now. Let me know if more show up, I tried several times.
DM RyckyRych |
Remember, the smell of this room is considerably bad enough that you could sense it from the hallway. Do you want to hole up here?
DM RyckyRych |
OK, is that going to be the plan? Everyone to area #4, the four PCs sleep while the three freed captives are on guard? Do you give them any weapons or protection? Any healing or other spells to be cast?
Fizzlebomb |
I'm concerned giving them weapons. I'm wary of master of Dungeons being telling these poor souls to rob us and get away while we sleep, with whatever they can. Without weapons, I would hope they are less likely to try and rob us.
Here are the weapons that they gnolls were carrying. I know they're not much, but if anything comes in here, wake us up, and we'll take care of the intruders.
Looking for comments/opinion from Varis. I'm almost willing to just let them go, and stand watches here in the room #4.
DM RyckyRych |
OK, so we have one vote for all sleep and one for one on guard. What say you?
DM RyckyRych |
OK, lets go with an order for the watch then. Are you allowing the rescued to sleep? TBH, they probably weren't going to be up to keeping watch in their condition anyway.
Fizzlebomb |
Yeah, i'd let them sleep. I'll let Varis insert himself anywhere, but here's the fizz, Fergus, Haldor. Varis can plug himself into there anywhere.
DM RyckyRych |
OK, so I take it that the order of watch will go Fizz/Fergus/Varis/Haldor. This is the "order" I see you guys lined up on Roll20. Do I have that right? Also, any healing or such before you rest or are we going to use said rest to gain back the hit points?
Once I get everything all straight I'll see if anything actually happens!
Varis Starflower |
Varis had run out of HD to spend so he needs a long rest in order to heal. Afterwards he will have full health but only 3HD. However, after an hour rest he will have his KI back unless Mr. DM rules otherwise.
Fizzlebomb |
Fizz will use tow of his 3rd level spells to heal
Varis:
(1) Cure Wounds Range Touch
healing: 3d8 + 7 ⇒ (5, 7, 2) + 7 = 21
1d8 for each cast level as 2nd or higher
Fergus
(1) Cure Wounds Range Touch
healing: 3d8 + 7 ⇒ (2, 7, 4) + 7 = 20
1d8 for each cast level as 2nd or higher
Spell Slots used
1st Level 4 of 4
2nd Level 3 of 3
3rd Level 2 of 3
4th Level 0 of 1
DM RyckyRych |
Yes,
Varis, why would you only have 3HD after a long rest?
You only regain half of your level of hit dice after each long rest.
DM RyckyRych |
Varis (35/35 HP)
Fergus (43/58 HP)
Fizz (-3)
The party finally decides on a place to hole up and rest and sets a watch order for the night. The freed captives quickly huddle in a corner and fall asleep, feeling safe under your protection.

Xbow: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (8) + 10 = 18 or Xbow: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (1) + 10 = 11
Xbow: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (3) + 10 = 13 or Xbow: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (2) + 10 = 12
Wow, that was quite lucky.
As everyone is startled awake, they see down the hallway is none other than their "friend", Thorn! He's ambushed you! Though not very well, I guess he'd do better out in the forest. Growling in anger, Thorn reloads his hand crossbows with deft quickness and precision and takes aim again! Using Action Surge to attack again.
Xbow: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (11) + 10 = 21 or Xbow: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (11) + 10 = 21

Fizzlebomb |
Haldor will use his reaction to use Wrath of the Storm against whichever mastiff hit him earlier.
dex save of 15
lightning damage: 2d8 ⇒ (3, 5) = 8
half on a successful save
Fergus will stand up and start with mastiff 2, then to mastiff 1 if mastiff 2 goes down.

second attack: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (14) + 8 = 22
damage: 1d8 + 7 ⇒ (5) + 7 = 12
DM RyckyRych |
No, you did not compete the required time to gain back anything yet, Varis.
Varis grabs his weapon and ends up slaughtering both of the mastiffs with his sword as Haldor gives a shock to one after the attack! Varis, if you wish to move some more, you can. You used half to stand up and 5' to reach the second puppy.
Since they are dead, I'll let Fergus and Haldor reconsider their actions. Remember that Fergus had to use half his move to stand up.
DM RyckyRych |
Thorn takes the hit from the charging Haldor! He steps forward, reloading his crossbows and firing at the still-yet-to-react Fizz! He has Crossbow Expert so no disadvantage. On the robe-wearer he will also try for extra damage via Sharpshooter. As Fizz has yet to act he also gets to use Assassinate, thus he has advantage.
Xbow: 1d20 + 10 - 5 ⇒ (6) + 10 - 5 = 11 or Xbow: 1d20 + 10 - 5 ⇒ (10) + 10 - 5 = 15 for Bolt Damage with Sneak Attack: 1d6 + 14 + 2d6 ⇒ (5) + 14 + (5, 5) = 29
Xbow: 1d20 + 10 - 5 ⇒ (15) + 10 - 5 = 20 or Xbow: 1d20 + 10 - 5 ⇒ (13) + 10 - 5 = 18 for Bolt Damage: 1d6 + 14 ⇒ (3) + 14 = 17
Fizz is down before he can even get up! The third shot with the offhand goes for Varis! Since Varis has acted it is not with advantage.
Xbow: 1d20 + 10 - 5 ⇒ (17) + 10 - 5 = 22 for Bolt Damage: 1d6 + 14 ⇒ (1) + 14 = 15
Thorn then drops one of his hand crossbows and draws his rapier! He then Disengages from his opponents and swiftly moves down the hall! Let us see what you "heroes" are worth!

DM RyckyRych |
Varis deftly catches the bolt but only barely, the tip inches from his face! He then rushes the man, stabbing him twice! As he swings and misses with the bolt, Thorn slashes at the monk with his rapier!

Haldor will attack thorn

damage: 2d8 + 3 ⇒ (7, 7) + 3 = 17
DM RyckyRych |
Why is the attack 2d8 of damage?
Thorn grunts as the cleric strikes him. You guys are tough, I'll say that! He then feints an attack before taking a swipe with his rapier at Varis! First attack is with advantage.
Rapier: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (4) + 8 = 12 or Rapier: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (16) + 8 = 24 for Damage: 1d8 + 4 ⇒ (7) + 4 = 11 plus Sneak Damage: 2d6 ⇒ (4, 5) = 9
The attack also tries to trip Varis! Extra Damage: 1d8 ⇒ 2 Varis needs to make a DC 16 Strength Save or be knocked prone.
Rapier: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (7) + 8 = 15
The second rapier attack misses, unless
As his bonus action, Thorn tries to hit Haldor with a crossbow bolt!
Xbow: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (4) + 10 = 14
The elf then retreats back down the hallway! Varis and Haldor may take an AoO if they wish.

DM RyckyRych |
Well, a weapon attack wouldn't be 2d8 but since both die rolls are the same its an easy fix.
Haldor connects as the villian makes his... escape?

Fergus lands a strike against Thorn, as does Haldor, however Fizz misses with his spell, likely due to his desire to stay behind the cover of the wall. Fizz manages to send a wave of healing goodness to the bold monk taking a dirt nap.
