Tatsuo Arashi |
I believe Conner has it.
As other people mess with the antidote, Tatsuo keeps watch making sure to keep one wary eye on the two gnolls with them.
DM of the coins |
The antitoxin is added to the water and almost immediately the water starts to clear up. it will take a little time to filter to the Tree but no where near as long as it would have taken naturally.
bud and lou converse among themselves in gnoll
you have two other passages to explore and find the journal
also linked in the header.
if you want to.. give me either knowledge nature, knowledge dungeoneering or craft alchemy checks
DM of the coins |
you heard stories and may have read somewhere that there is a way to extract the fluids from these fungus tentacles and refine it into a type of poison.
(DC 25 craft Alchemy to make. there is enough here for 4 doses)
DM of the coins |
it will take about an hour to extract all 4 doses and will require a DC 20 craft alchemy or survival skill check. If you miss by more than 5 than you will need a DC 10 fort save to prevent accidental poisoning. 1 check is all that's needed to get all 4 doses
Tatsuo Arashi |
Tatsuo shakes his head. "I have no knowledge of the alchemical arts, but could slightly help someone who did. If having their poison re-contaminate the area is an issue, we could simply haul their carcases away from the water supply."
If someone wants to try extracting the poison, Tatsuo will cast guidance on them. Otherwise, he'll help drag them away from the water before moving on.
Now that the main life or death threat has been dealt with, Tatsuo doesn't seem to be in any particular hurry to get to the "aid villager-killers who have anger management problems" part of the mission.
Conner K. |
Conner will ask those of the party who speak gnoll if they could ask if either of their fuzzy companions knew anything about alchemy, if they didn't Conner will just leave the mushrooms about 50ft from the water, and follow down the right path.
DM of the coins |
Bud and lou definitely don't seem to have even the most rudimentary concept of Alchemy.
moving on...hope to spur more activity if its something you didn't want to do then sorry...should have posted
Heading down the Left passage (I picked Left as there are three and you went down the right side already leaving the left and the middle.)
The smell of stagnant water assaults you as you journey down the cavern passageway. It opens up into an approximately thirty by forty foot area with a pool of water at the northwestern end. A large frog eyes you hungrily from in front of the water.
Tatsuo Arashi |
Are we in combat yet? If not, Tatsuo will say the following.
"Any idea what frogs eat? Other than bugs and perhaps us? We could try feeding it those mushrooms we just killed." He's careful to move as little as possible so as not to alarm the creature.
Sora meanwhile flicks her tongue out and then back in, tasting the air. She scans the room for other signs of food to offer the frog.

you are not in combat unless you choose to engage the frog
the frogs eat meat, giant insects, stray adventurers, gnolls. but not fungus
Felix Tark |
Kn:Nature: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (16) + 8 = 24
It's not going to be tempted by fungus. It does like meat though so it'll attack us if we get close. Let's go down the middle path for now
Delkaneth "Del" Sargan |
"Agree, why look for a fight if we don't need to....." the explorer cranes his neck, trying in vain to get a view down the hallway past the frog. "But what if all the good stuff is down that way?"
Unable to disagree with Felix's logic, Delkaneth heads back the way they came to check the middle pathway.
DM of the coins |
Mickey, the DC is 18 you missed it, but thanks to the froggy's negative charisma mod you did not fail by 5 or more.
I updated the combat map to allow Mickey to use wild empathy, and I put Conner in a spot to allow him an unobstructed charge.
1d20 + 10 ⇒ (5) + 10 = 15
Mickey init: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (10) + 1 = 11
Conner init: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (13) + 1 = 14
felix init: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (12) + 9 = 21
tat init: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (7) + 7 = 14
Del init: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (19) + 4 = 23
froggy init: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (11) + 1 = 12
Mickey attempts to pacify the frog, but it would seem that the frog is rather hungry and Mickey looks like lunch.
fortunately for Mickey, he was able to read the frog's intentions and avoided the surprise attack. and like all good news, there is a down side. the surprise attack has slowed Mickey down causing him to be a little less reactive
Init order:
Group A - whole party (except Mickey)
Group B - Froggy
Group C - Mickey

Tatsuo Arashi |
I'm assuming Conner is next to the frog? Although he isn't on the map.
Tatsuo and Sora both circle around the frog: Tatsuo to get a clear shot on it and Sora merely out of some predatory instinct. Assuming that the frog isn't that big of a threat, he merely tosses off a small bolt of electricity at the creature.
Ray of frost -> electric
Ranged Touch: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (19) + 4 = 23 Hits even with a potential -4 if it's in combat with Conner
Electricity: 1d3 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 1 = 2 +1 bloodline
Sora takes an experimental bite at the creature.
10ft bite: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (16) + 5 = 21
B/S/P: 1d6 + 3 ⇒ (5) + 3 = 8
Delkaneth "Del" Sargan |
"Or we can just do that......." Delkaneth says with a resigned look as battle is joined. Shrugging his shoulders and drawing his weapons, he moves along the wall for a good position before letting an axe fly at the frog. He grunts his frustration at his misjudgment as the axe rotates wrong and harmlessly strikes the creature handle-first.
Move Action: Move 25' (map updated)
Free Action: Draw axes as part of move
Throw an Axe, PBS: 1d20 + 5 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 5 + 1 = 10

Conner charges the frog before it can even croak. and he slices it rather thoroughly, and still it has not croaked.
but Tat and Sora take care of that and between acid and tooth and sword, the frog shall croak no more.
Del you do not need to throw your axe yet...
still in initiative please
1d20 + 4 ⇒ (14) + 4 = 18

you see no enemies alive right now... but stay in init for now... not saying there are more enemies, just "pay no attention to the frog behind the curtain"
DM of the coins |
sorry all, promised to post yesterday but I injured my knee and can barely move.
anyway continuing on
the frog is quickly dispatched before it even had a chance to do anything.
but suddenly from the water's edge another frog emerges and its tongue lashes out at Sora
I lick you: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (16) + 3 = 19

del use the new rolls. i tried to update the battle map and
d lost sora's token
Tatsuo Arashi |
Tatsuo hurriedly moves once again to try to get a good shot at the creature attempting to eat his companion, but in his haste, he trips slightly, causing his jolt of electricity to go far off mark.
Ranged Touch: 1d20 + 4 - 4 ⇒ (7) + 4 - 4 = 7
Sora snarls at the frog as it pulls her closer. Rather than try to escape, she retaliates by biting at the creature. She manages to take a good chunk out of the beast, barely missing an artery.

DM of the coins |
you didn't need to target the tongue
first the frog is hit with a gunshot, and as it reels from that pain Sora bites the frogs tongue causing even more distress. A split second later Conner cleaves the frog in half. Sora is released from the now lifeless tongue.
combat over

just an FYI, I know you guys can see what looks like a passage from this room, however, that is underwater and will require you to swim underwater the entire length to see where it goes.
it was not noticeable until the frogs were dealt with.
Delkaneth "Del" Sargan |
"Lucky for us theyre stupid. Easy to take care of..."
Without swimming just yet, Delkaneth starts searching the area to see if past victims of these frogs left anything behind.
