"Ah, so that's what you meant by it taking a while," Xel remarked from his perch on Valeria's shoulder, "they're not exactly spectacular when it comes to aerial velocity."

"Amazing... I wonder how they would feel knowing their own tricks are being used against them now." Friday remarks after watching Kasha converse with the butterfly.

"Ah, so that's what you meant by it taking a while," Xel remarked from his perch on Valeria's shoulder, "they're not exactly spectacular when it comes to aerial velocity."
"They make up for it in bravery."
Valeria Skendar |
The raven scoffed at Friday's remark. "What you're referring to is 'bravery' is just the byproduct of them having a brain smaller than most seeds. Take it from someone who's eaten a few in his lifetime."

"Be nice he's taking time out of his day to help us. With their lifespan, every hour is infinitely more valuable than it is to us." the shamaness chides the mouthy raven.

Friday blinks, then nods. "Ah, I had never thought about that, the dead do not age after all. Fleeting and transient guests are rather beautiful with that knowledge in mind."
Valeria Skendar |
"Xel, get us a layout of the exterior guards - ground and balcony." Valeria told him.
"But what about-"
"If they start aiming crossbows at you, then get out of there."
The bird glared at his master for a few moments before finally acquiescing and starting his recon.
"While he's doing that, let's see what we can find out about the Guild ourselves."
So which of us has the highest Diplomacy mod? Valeria's only got a +1.
Kavell Speranta |
Kavell & Kelda
Kavell finds the svelte berserker sitting at a nearby table in the Hunting Serpent Inn, grinning wolfishly with four empty drinking horns around her. Across from her--or, rather, underneath her table--is a fair-skinned man of Tian descent passed out with four drinking horns covering his part of the table.
Kelda doesn't even look buzzed. "Kavell. Where are we going next, eh?"
-----------------
"Well i was thinking about the journey across the crown and thinking... private time with you would be rought unless.. .well i thought we can get our own private wagon, some extra art supplies... Upgrades to out equipment would be nice as well, whom knows what we will run across out there... plus there is that assault on those seeking to harm miss Ameiko.
He paused and leaned in close to her ear whispering while blushing.
"with the others uh busy scouting i thought maybe once we are done shopping we could take another bath.... minus the bath perhaps."
Kasha Mvashti |
Kasha's the same at +1
Valeria Skendar |
Should've known - haven't read the Shaman class in a while but I assume Valeria's the only one of us three with class features requiring Charisma? Oh well, I'll leave it to you guys if Aid Another would be worthwhile or just each of us making our own checks.
Diplomacy, Gather Information: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 = 5

Kasha tries her hand at communicating with the locals, but to no avail, her somewhat supernatural nature clearly alienating the superstitious citizens of the Jade Quarter.
Diplomacy: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 = 5 LMAO

”What can you tell us about that building?” Friday asks the first person who lingers.

Hours: 1d4 ⇒ 2
By some miracle, something about Friday's air of quiet menace and intensity causes a young Tian lady to stick around long enough to speak with him. It says something about the superstitions of the Jade Quarter that attractive tieflings and wondrous speakers of nature are more likely to be shunned than him.
"That place? That's the Rimerunners' Guildhall--it's where they conduct all their international shipping business. They don't let anyone in without an appointment... or a generous bribe." She says, her eyes darting between the man and the building.

Kavell
Kelda chuckles. "Kelda thought paladins had rules about that sort of thing. Glad to be wrong for a change."
"Let Sandru worry about wagons. Or, at least, worry about wagons after you crush those who seek to harm your heiress and take their wealth."
Friday Daud |
”Thank you, sorry for taking your time.” Friday tells the woman before giving her a bow then returning to Kasha and Valeria and relaying what he had found out.

Valeria’s attempts to gather information hadn’t exactly gone smoothly after the fifth person to react rather strongly to her heritage - necessitating Kasha to drag her away before she said something she might regret. That Kasha’s own attempts met with equally dismal luck didn’t help her mood. Neither did the fact that the ever-quiet Friday, of all people, had actually managed some success.
”Well the bit about the bribe is new information, at least. Was hoping to get an idea of what everyone thought of the guild, though. I’m not up on the law enforcement around here but I’d rather not end up on their bad side or risk innocent civilians getting caught up in this.”
GM_Jadecat |
Kasha, Valeria, Friday
Eventually, the blessed butterfly returns from its scouting, alights on Kasha's shoulder, and begins to whisper the memories of the building's layout into her ears...
New Maps Up! Due to the limitations of Insectile Scouts, you only have basic layout information--nothing on furnishings or occupants.
Friday Daud |
”After the destruction of the temple I don’t have much acknowledgment of any... law enforcement this city might have.” Friday states, though even if they had more of a presence the thought of going against them wouldn’t change his opinion. Just more obstacles that can be solved like all the others.
Kasha Mvashti |
"A good point. They didn't do much to hep with the temple did they? Besides, if we are going to take action that might be against the law, better if Kavell isn't here at the moment." Kasha comments.
Kavell Speranta |
KavellKelda chuckles. "Kelda thought paladins had rules about that sort of thing. Glad to be wrong for a change."
"Let Sandru worry about wagons. Or, at least, worry about wagons after you crush those who seek to harm your heiress and take their wealth."
"Fair enough he would know what is best about wagons but as to your... thoughts about paladins... we are not required to be chaste... just honest and forthcoming. I enjoy your company, I am attracted to you. I hope you feel the same. If wagon's arent needed what do you think about going with me to upgrades to our weapons and perhaps some art supplies."
Valeria Skendar |
"Yeah, but with what Xel said about the security, I'd rather not go in with just the three of us if I can avoid it."
"That being said, I might have an idea. But I'm going to need the priest we met last night, my uncle, and a word with Sandru."
Kasha Mvashti |
"Then I suppose we should head back," Kasha replies.

"Let's go, although I'm not sure Sandru's gonna like my idea."
If this were a TV series, this would be the point where we'd get a jump-cut to after she's explained the plan to Sandru, namely straight to him saying "You want to do what?!"
Kasha Mvashti |
Heading back to the inn, Kasha considers their next steps as well as what else needed to be done. With their continued trek north it would become increasingly cold, which would require the appropriate clothing.
Valeria Skendar |
"Well... how much do you think a business like them rely on good word-of-mouth with passing traders? And how do you think the locals around here take to people who demolish shrines to the gods?"
Friday Daud |
"No idea, I am not a trader, and I would think the people would not like that, but I do not know the people around here." Friday responds.
Valeria Skendar |
"You get a trade group like the Rimerunner's Guild tied up in a scandal like kidnapping - particularly the kidnapping of a guide who facilitates overland trade - it's going to ruffle feathers with their clients and business partners. Even if we can't get that going as a rumour, there's always the threat of getting thanes or other officials involved more directly. It's not like any of them could accuse a bloody angel of lying, could they? At the very least, it would be grounds for a more thorough investigation and that would cause a lot of damage to their business.
"The best part is that we may not even have to go through with that - all we need is for them to believe we're willing to do that to open a dialogue. If nothing else; we can find out where Ulf and Uksahkka are being held and have something more solid to go on for a rescue attempt.
"The issue is... we need to be ready to go through with it anyway and we need to plan for any attempts they make to counter it. We need to keep Helgarval safe, we also need to look after that priest from last night - they might think he was how we found out about the guild and go after him - and we need to make sure they can't get at Ameiko. If they're connected with these Five Storms guys then we have to assume her capture or death is a high priority for them.
"Finally Sandru; I think getting into the building would be easier if you were with us - you run a trade caravan, they probably get business inquiries from people like you every other day."
Friday Daud |
Friday listens intently as Valeria finally explains her plan. ”This only works on the assumption that this Rimerunner’s Guild isn’t already known for doing this type of ‘business’.”
Kavell Speranta |

Kelda grins and loops an arm around you. "Let's get some new weapons."
"And new armour for you--man of your strength should wear metal, not this flimsy leather."
What weapons & armour were you hoping to get? You'll be able to get new art supplies as well.
"Metal? Ive always found it bulky, but you are the expert in such things."
He said with a grin totally smitten with the northern woman.
Well a magical spear for Friday, perhaps a shiny pretty glaive for myself MW or better. Agile breastplates, Hvy wooden shields you know, the good stuff?
Kavell Speranta |
I had forgotten that his spear was already enchanted... If possible sure. A +1 Heavy wooden shield of Arrowcatching would be great, though honestly any sort of enchanted armor or weapons would be great. :) As long as Kelda approaves of course.

"Didn't stop that one guy from staring at my boobs the whole time." Valeria grumbled. A meeting that would have no-doubt been much more eventful if Kasha hadn't dragged her away at the right moment.
Kasha Mvashti |
"Very true....I doubt he even heard anything you were actually saying." Kasha comments.
"I was planning on taking Lia shopping for clothing after this, I can try asking around more, but I'm not sure how successful I'll be,"
Kasha Mvashti |
Any ideas big brother?" Kasha asks Sandru as he mulls over the information.

Sandru takes a moment or two to parse the block of information Valeria gave him. "Well... "
"...come to think of it, you're right. Getting inside ought to be easier with me along than without me--especially if there's anyone on the Rimerunners' payroll that's bribable."
"So, are we trying to run a distraction while Friday or someone else sneaks around the place? Or are we going to try and wrangle the info we need on Uksahkka out of them?"
