I believe the Decampus' name is william or something and he was asking you to shoot at him, being polite it looks like you did :)

Its name was actually Nindenzego, but that doesn't matter much now.

Haru's nocked arrow flies forth and spears the decapus through the back of its skull, pinning it to the cavern wall.

The beast spasms once.

"PAZUZU..."

And goes limp.

Combat over!

The beast was carrying:

--1 charred ash wand
--1 silver circlet, coated in a layer of blood & slime

DC 18 Spellcraft (Charred Ash Wand):
A wand of scorching ray. There's about 29 charges left.

DC 20 Spellcraft (Silver Circlet):

"Well... that was a bit underwhelming." Spivey scratches her head as she stares at the dead decapus. She flits off to the south.

"Hey! There's more loot in here!"

Reaching up to retrieve the items from the corpse, Friday then starts to move over to where Spivey called.

1 person marked this as a favorite.

The room Spivey points out is a smaller cavern than the main one, but somehow more disgusting. Standing in the centre of the cavern are the remains of a leathery egg, split in half and with its foul-smelling contents strewn about. The eldritch goo covering the floor still feels weirdly warm, and pulsating.

A flat rock in front of the hatched egg bears several trinkets and lots of coin--presumably, tribute offered to the beast. Whether to arouse it from its slumber or to placate it so it would stay asleep is unknown.

The items are as follows:

--1 light steel shield bearing the image of Castle Brinewall
--1 starknife with curved blades, each of them engraved with images of wind currents
--1 immaculately-polished pearl that seems to glow brightly in the cavern
--1 ring with a bronze ram's head on it
--1 compass with images of stars carved into its wooden frame
--1,320 GP
--800 GP in jewelry and gems

Two more items of interest lie upon the rock, separate from the other offerings: a darkwood-and-silver disc decorated with an etching of Brinewall under the moon, and a stone statuette of a four-winged, humanoid bird, its face twisted into a snarl and pointing an accusatory finger.

DC 28 Spellcraft (Light Steel Shield):
A +1 light fortification light steel shield.

DC 22 Spellcraft (Starknife):
A +1 returning starknife.

DC 18 Spellcraft (Pearl):
A pearl of power (1st Level).

DC 24 Spellcraft (Ram-Headed Ring):
A ring of the ram. It has about 10 charges remaining.

DC 20 Spellcraft (Compass):
A wayfinder.

Friday't eyes widen as he realizes the Azata's statement was not hyperbole.

Carefully he goes about collecting all of the items in the room that would not churn your stomach.

I wasn't sure how to handle this one at first. Now I do.

DC 20 Spellcraft (Stone Statuette):
The statuette is cursed--it's actually a stone of weight.

It looks like all the other winged paintings and the like, doesn't it? I mean Cavell's the sculpture person, but it does it look like a well made statue or is crude?

It does, and honestly, it's kinda crude. Like it's made from hewn rock instead of a professionally-made sculpture.

The intense holy glow faded from the young Aasimar's eyes as the lay there twitching and now dead. He stared at it for a few more moments before he followed the others...

I believe that etching there one the wood and silver is what we are looking for to restore Ameiko, as for the other things, It appears there are rewards for ridding the world of evil.

knowledge religion: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (16) + 4 = 20
Is the stature of Pazuza? if so Kavell would be more for destroying it where it sits than touching it. Perhaps he and miss Spivey can consecrate and destroy the false bad idol?

Kavell's Knowledge Roll:
You recognize the statuette as a miniature carving of Pazuzu, King of the Wind Demons.

Spivey glares at the stone idol. "And that one there..."

Knowledge *Religion*: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (2) + 10 = 12

"...I don't recognize what god that's of, but just looking at it makes my skin crawl." The lyrakien bobs in the air next to Kavell. "Think we can break it?"

Its the symbol of Pazuzu... the 'king' of wind demons. I certainly hope so, foul idols like that do not belong here amongst mortals... No one touch it... it might bear a foul taint.

He warned frowning at it.

Do we have some of that holy water handy? it certainly couldnt hurt. to help destroy it.

Spivey grins and holds up three vials of holy water. "I KNEW there was a reason I brought these along."

"To tell the truth, I was saving them for the dead freak-of-nature back there." She whispers in Kavell's ear.

Haru is able to determine the use of the wand, but raises her eyebrows as she studies the statue. "We should definitely destroy it if we can. It is cursed!"

Edit: Forgot the starknife. Spellcraft on starknife: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (12) + 7 = 19

Spivey flies over to the statuette and starts uncorking her vials of holy water, dumping them onto the unholy, cursed idol.

Damage?: 2d4 ⇒ (3, 1) = 4

"Your presence in the mortal realm is vile, unwholesome, unwelcome!" The lyrakien starts praying.

Damage: 2d4 ⇒ (1, 1) = 2

"Your guardian lies dead and damned, far from the sight of the Song of the Spheres!"

The idol begins smouldering from the holy water poured onto it. Several cracks appear throughout it.

Damage: 2d4 ⇒ (4, 2) = 6

"Now, your filth and corruption shall be cleansed from this place, never to blight our lands again!"

The idol looks like it's on the verge of falling apart. Spivey pointedly flies up and looks at the party.

Shrugging sheepishly at the expectant Azata Friday will stab the statue. Though he thought a spear wouldn't be of much use.

Kavell too was locked in prayer, though no doubt the little cleric was probably more effective that way. . . his eyes opened when it cracked and moving quickly her rose handing The magical morning star to Friday.

Your strength is greater than mine my friend... strike hard and true.

He said moving to the side to give him to room to swing.

Friday's spear strikes the idol square in its chest, causing it to fly apart in an explosion of rock.

Hesitantly Friday will reach a hand out to the blessed weapon from the holy warrior, coming to a halt though as he hears the delayed explosion of rock from behind.

"... sorry" he murmurs to the Aasimar as he quickly retracts his hand.

Male Aasimar Paladin (Hospitaler)4 Cleric 3 | HP: 52/52 | AC 15 T2 FF15 | F+8 R+5 W+10 | Init +2 | Perception +10 | LOH 6 of 6/day

Dont be my friend it was well struck. You all go, hurry, see if Ameiko is all right, Im going to bat these peices far apart from one another then follow along, with the weight of this armor I will not be as quick, Spivey and I will be right along no worries.

Using the morningstar Kavell intends to invent golf, hitting the peices of the statue far apart, just in case before checking on Ishgha, doubletiming it back to check on Ameiko, then to check on the pretty barbarian prisoner.

Once Kavell is done smacking idol debris around (with Spivey ducking out of the way when some shards careen off the cavern walls), it's a simple matter for both him and Spivey to catch up to the others.

As the party returns outside, the first thing they notice is a great plume of smoke coming from the castle's courtyard. A large pyre has been created in the courtyard, its flames consuming the corpses of hobgoblins neatly arranged in a row. The smell of burning, melting flesh & charring bone is overpowering.

Standing before the pyre is Ishgha, his face expressionless and his sword planted in the dirt before him.

Male Aasimar Paladin (Hospitaler)4 Cleric 3 | HP: 52/52 | AC 15 T2 FF15 | F+8 R+5 W+10 | Init +2 | Perception +10 | LOH 6 of 6/day

He paused quietly looking over the great pyre letting the scene soak itself into his mind. He nodded to Ishgha and moved closer.

The demonic beast below is done with, this ruined building of stone is clean, your brethren avenged. What are your plans now my friend?

He asked quietly, letting the somber scene soak in.

Ishgha doesn't respond for a bit after Kavell asks his question.

"...I do not know."

Male Aasimar Paladin (Hospitaler)4 Cleric 3 | HP: 52/52 | AC 15 T2 FF15 | F+8 R+5 W+10 | Init +2 | Perception +10 | LOH 6 of 6/day

Stay with the caravan then my friend, until your path is known to you. Im sure your sword arm would be welcome.

He began offering his arm for a shake, regardless of the hobgoblin's decision Kavell felt good about the chances for Ishgha to find a path in life that wasnt one suited for evil.

"...very well." Ishgha doesn't sound especially happy--just drained.

Back to the caravan & Ameiko?

I guess so.

The return trip to the caravan is a quiet one, even with Spivey merrily flitting about over peoples' heads. Most of the caravan's occupants are trying to keep themselves busy somehow--Zaiobe is sitting on one of the wagons' steps reading a book, Sandru is busily carving something out of a block of firewood, Kelda is sitting next to the campfire nursing her cast-clad arm, and Shalelu is nowhere to be found.

The door to Koya's wagon is open.

A Beautiful Bardess Beyond Compare

For Anyone Entering Koya's Wagon

Koya is busy shuffling a deck of Harrow cards while glancing over at Ameiko's comatose body.

She stirs when you approach. Her eyes open, glowing teal.

"あなたが戻ってきました。あなたは月のキーを負担しますか?" She/the spirit in her says.

Tien:
"You have returned. Do you bear the moon key?"

Male Aasimar Paladin (Hospitaler)4 Cleric 3 | HP: 52/52 | AC 15 T2 FF15 | F+8 R+5 W+10 | Init +2 | Perception +10 | LOH 6 of 6/day

So as to not crowd the wagon, he moved to check on his other business. He didnt comprehend the language the spirit spoke, but he had faith that Miss Ameiko should be fine now. He moved to check on the pretty barbarian's arm and spirits first.

heal check her arm some more just you know to seem to have a purpose.: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (18) + 8 = 26

Then to Sandru to see how he feels about having a hobgoblin guard still even with the castle clear.

Kelda's arm looks to be healing rather nicely.

"You have bearing of a warrior, but your hands are soft." The brawny woman remarks as you inspect her cast.

The Charming Caravaneer

Kavell

Sandru doesn't seem to be too thrilled when you bring up the topic of Ishgha possibly remaining with the caravan.

"I don't know... if folks see him, I'm a bit worried they won't want to trade with us. Most folks don't exactly have a good history with them, you know."

Male Aasimar Paladin (Hospitaler)4 Cleric 3 | HP: 52/52 | AC 15 T2 FF15 | F+8 R+5 W+10 | Init +2 | Perception +10 | LOH 6 of 6/day

Ouch *lawls* @Kelda

My faith believes that most conflict can be resolved with reasoning , charity, and understanding. I am a healer not a warrior, but if darkness and conflict looms you will find I will not faulter in its face.

He said trying to keep as straight a face as he could. It was a good set, the casting would keep it solid, she would heal just fine.

You arm with be fine with time, 3 months at the minimum perhaps up to 6 months, but its strength will return.

He offered her biting his lip on the words he would have asked her. He felt as if she were calling him soft. Something that certainly had never happened before, though from her perspective he supposed he was.

To Sandru

With a sigh he nodded. It was to be expected though it saddened him to see so many with closed minds and hearts.

I suppose you are right, though it saddens me to see it so. He has a good heart, and I worry what he will do without some charity. Thank you at least for the consideration... what are you working on here with the firewood?

Portrait

Kavell

Kelda laughs. "Oh, do not mistake me--I was not complaining. Quite foolish to complain about the hands of the man who heals you. Gives him reason to not heal you again."

The news of how long her arm will take to fully heal causes the smile to disappear from her face. "Ugh. Now how am I supposed to fight?"

The Charming Caravaneer

Kavell

Sandru purses his lips and looks down at the firewood he's carving. "This? It's a replacement axle for when one of the wagon axles breaks."

"Now, as to Ishgha..." He looks over at the despondent hobgoblin, who is currently busy working on the piece of firewood you gave him. "...since you're still in one piece, I can assume Ishgha's at least smart enough not to bite the hand that feeds him, right? To be honest, since Gergo disappeared, I'm starting to think having his sword-arm with us would be a better idea than sending him away at this point..."

Zaiobe looks up from her book and smiles slightly, waving hello.

Haru looks around for Shalelu, but is disappointed when she can't find the elf. She felt a longing for her company as they returned from the castle, looking forward to telling her mentor about the amazing shot she made with the magical arrows.

She starts to ask Sandru where Shalelu is, but thinks better of it, remembering Ameiko's plight.

She is first into Koya's wagon. When Ameiko begins speaking, she understands and replies.

Tien:
"I think so. We found this."

Ameiko's hand reaches up and clasps Haru's, feeling the disc between their fingers. Her/its face relaxes. "はい...はい...あなたのタスクはほぼ完了です."

Tien:
"Yes... yes... your task is almost complete."

"あなたはこれらのキーを取ると、彼らは密栓して保管してボールトを見つける必要があります。それを開いて、私の電荷を取ります。" The spirit says, this time sounding like it's pleading desperately. "これを行う、と私たちの神聖な法律に対する私の罪は赦されます。私はあなたの友人から逸脱しなければなりません。"

"王位はその真の後継者を持っている必要があります." It croaks out before Ameiko lapses back into her coma.

Tien:
"Sealed in the vault is the seal of a great family. A family that your friend belongs to, in fact."

"The throne must have its true heir."

Haru relays this to everyone as soon as she is able to. "I guess we've got to go back to the castle one more time, maybe bring Ameiko with us?"

The Town Grandmother

Koya shakes her head. "I doubt it--she hasn't risen from that bed since she first collapsed. I'm not sure she'll be able to walk."
