Sosiel's flicker of confusion disappears in a laugh, "I'm afraid you do, Cole. Aron is the expert on tactics. He's amazing when it comes to siege engines as well. I tend to take on the more pastoral issues."

"Ahh, well then. OK. It is you that I've come to see, so it's good that you are here."

Cole grins weakly.

"I was wondering, do you, by chance, have the ability to create food and water? Or at least water? I'm concerned about our supplies on this journey and would like you to create what you can, at least for the first four days of the journey."

"The fifth day, with a little luck, we'll reach Drezen and you should prepare for that with your prepared spells. I don't mean to be telling you what to do or anything. Er, Except I guess I am huh."

"Well, what do you think?" he says matter of factly.

Serra nods, his point made and understood.

"Thank you for your time, Captain. I shall to Cole and find out our naming."

Serra completes the bump, wondering if he had failed or succeeded in what Cole asked of him.

He marches off to find Cole.

"Cole? Damnit, Cole, where are you?" Serra marches around to find the fast moving Cole.

He's never one to sit still. People might actually talk to him then.

"Cole? There you are...I have news if you would hear it. I have spoke with 'Captain' Jothinra as you requested. He spake of some interesting things..." Serra pauses, waiting for Cole's attention and for the man to catch up.

"Firstly, the Queen intends to 'ennoble' us on the morrow. The good Captain alluded that it is similar to knighthood...if you did not already know that." Serra waits again for Cole to absorb that...Serra, after all, isn't sure he had absorbed it yet or the full implications of what it meant.

"Secondly, the Captain...and you, I guess, will command a retinue of 40 knights. The Captain called them 'paladins', but I'm not sure what that means. When I espied them, they seemed to be as the Captain described: professional soldiers." Serra again waits.

"Thirdly, I do not expect the Captain to be untoward you or us as we go on. He speaks the language of knights and of honor despite not being knighted himself. He is young and loyal to the Queen...he might be hotheaded at times, but he possesses some sense of self-measure. I think we can count on him and if you need me to continue to work with him, I shall."

Serra waits to answer any questions Cole might have.

Presumably this happens before the priest for clarity if that's OK.

Cole stops in the hall as he's hunting, and looks to Serra. "Knighthoods? But we haven't done anything yet really. Nothing to be done there I expect and I'm sure the Queen has her reasons. I suppose it'll be nice huh Serra? We'll be knights... I think."

"And 40 Paladins?! I thought like 10 men at arms, tops. I guess the Queen is planning on some bloodshed. This is going to be tougher than I thought. The Queen does not seem the sort to over-prepare. We'll just have to be ready."

"I have no doubt the good Captain will be the model of dedication to me and the mission. I just want him to do it with an open heart, not straining against the fiber of his being. I'd like you to continue to stay close to him. I want him in his comfort zone, doing his thing with his troops. That will get us the best of him. Thanks."

40 paladins. Geeze.

Cole begins to appreciate the strength of this cadre and the damage it'll do to the demons. He smiles at the thought. I'll need more arrows.

"I dunno how it works. I always got bored when they talked about government when I was a kid."

He walks to Amber's shop to see if any new stock has come in and if it might be useful.

Serra enters into a small labyrinth of boxes and crates; the place is 3/4s of the way packed.

"Good afternoon, Sir Serra! Indeed, I have. I was just coming to find you." She gestures to the boxes. "Most things are packed, but I've kept back what I thought would be most immediately useful. Is there anything in particular you're looking for?"

Beagan sees his comrade head into Amber's and strides in behind him. He stands tall (for a Gnome) and proud, sporting rather shiny red leathers, beaming in his newly master-crafted armor and a gleaming new buckler.

"So, big guy, we're headed into the Worldwound! We definitely should take advantage of anything Amber has to offer. We're going to need all the help we can get, even with Cole's steady hand guiding our way." If we want a chance of surviving, we'll need all the help we can get, even if we have been blessed by the Divine.

"All for a banner. Must be some banner!"

He looks to Serra and Amber, his mind running through what would be most useful for the trip ahead..

"How...wha...uhm...what are you going to do with all these boxes? How can we bring them all? I had thought this was to be a military expedition? Did Irabeth approve? Who is going to manage the arcane affairs here?" Serra breathes, trying to catch up. It's clear he's still a bit fuzzy/worried/confused about the ennobling later.

"Avery, take good care of that cask. It took care of us, well enough. I hope your activity in the restoration of Kenabres goes smoothly. Who knows, perhaps once we've finished what work lies ahead, we'll return here for a while."

"Oh...I haven't the faintest idea. I've been working on something but I don't think it will hold everything. Perhaps Kimroth will store some of it for me." She watches him examining the wand. "Lovely work, isn't it? It's a remove disease wand...only 10 charges left on it, but I love the workmanship. I did not think to ask Irabeth, though I suppose I should. I had hoped to convince the leader of the operation to let me go."

Male Gnome Fallen Paladin 7 / AC 22

The Gnome peers around the much larger knight and responds to the shopmistress of arcana.

"You're going into the Worldwound? So are we! But our expedition isn't large is it? It's just some of us who fought at the Grey Garrison and a few knights, right? I think we are moving quickly and striking fast, although I'm sure Cole will have that all sussed out. So is there another group headed in, too?"

He blanches at the thought. The Worldwound is dangerous, and shouldn't be entered except in the most extreme circumstances. Apparently, this banner is something important. Is there something else that needs to be retrieved? First a stone to crack. Then a banner to fetch. Does Amber have to help retrieve some royal pillow or magic fountain?

He looks to Serra for some confirmation, and speaks quietly. "Or perhaps we just a distraction for something more... important. If that's the case, I can sometimes be very distracting." Or so I've been told.

"A few knights, Sir Beagan? I heard there were 100 at least. Not to say that many can't move quickly, though. Yes, I hope to do so. I can only imagine the research I can accomplish if I go with you and study Drezen, a citadel HELD by demons for so many years. This is, as far as I can tell, the singular group headed in."

Amber smiles one of her rare smiles, "This is the opportunity of a lifetime for me. I hope the commander will agree."

With Cole in charge, I thought we'd be less clanging and more silent swooshy. Hmmm, maybe we are supposed to be a distraction. Would the Crusader Queen be that devious? "This is what the Big R' wants me to do, so it's o.k. if I don't make it out." If I die serving the Cause, it would be a worthy death. "But I've already lost friends, I'd rather not lose more. I would hate for you to face such great danger, if you don't have to." To not just "normal" demonic danger, but to a possible, if not probable, fate worse than death death.

"From what I've heard, I was thinking of getting some blessed scrolls to help with the elements, and water, and food. Do you think those would be appropriate? Do you have any of those available?"

Amber draws herself up to her full height, nearly twice as tall as Beagan. "Sir Beagan, this will not be my first foray into dangerous lands. If I die in search of knowledge - knowledge that can be used to defeat the demons - then I will have fulfilled *my* purpose. Surely you can see that."

Are you sure? I won't discourage you. It is not my decision to bring you, but likely Cole's. I..." "...will welcome your company."

"I will talk to Cole, then. It does not seem that such a force turn down any offer of healing. My sisters will continue to help here in Kenabres, but the worst of things are over here. That cannot be said for those leaving this evening."

Avery leans closer, lowering his voice. "Two men came by, looking for you. I'd never seen them before and they talked a bit like you." he pauses, then continues, even lower. "They weren't small men, Eli. They'll be back later, but I can send them out to pumps looking for you, if you'd rather head out today before meeting up with them."

His normally bright eyes slowly gaze over her determined form. A bit of sadness and resignation turn his smile into a sigh, before he breathes deeply and continues. "Let's just hope our purpose can be... fulfilled... quickly." Hopefully without too much death. But if there is to be death, let it be quick, rather than the alternative.

"Do you need assistance with your goods? I thought this was a quick strike, but if we have 100 knights and you and your goods, I don't know how quick we'll be. Do you have wagons? I've heard the terrain is... unpleasant." Xanthos is pretty nimble, but the Elves always said human knights were incredibly slow and plodding - what did they call them - easy targets? "How will you manage? What can I do to help?"

"After talking with Serra, I've decided not to take everything. Just what I need for my research, and my crafting supplies. I'll talk with Kimroth about storing some of it here. Thank you for the offer, though. I would not want it said that I was slowing down her Majesties men."

Serra, after speaking to Cole (and putting the responsibility for the naming and Amber's request solely upon his shoulders), Serra goes to pack for himself and Kastor.

There is neither spring in his step, nor a drag...but a sense of duty.

He reflects upon the last few weeks and realizes that some of his thoughts of dying quickly have faded. He now knows that he has others that depend upon him and it might not be good form to die if his help might give them a chance to live.

Serra, enjoyed, whistles for the first time in a long time.

You may have purpose, but you're still fat.

Serra stops whistling momentarily, a blow to his mental gut.

Fatty fat fat FAT!

Serra grimaces, then puts the thoughts out of his mind, returning to his whistling...drowning out the other thoughts.

He's talking about me, not himself!

Eli sits up, realizing he's joined Avery in leaning in to lower voices. "These men, Avery. What did they look like? Were they armed?" Eli wracks his brain, starting to wonder about the possibilities. There was that caravan guard... didn't take too kindly to me interrupting his forcing himself on the girl. I wonder if Imelda had brothers... that wouldn't be good, some misunderstanding has them defending a sister's honor this far north.

"No, I think we need to settle our affairs before departure. I wouldn't mind your company... helps even the odds, and keeps us out in the open. And one more drink would be good for my constitution."

"The one was a big man, for all his years. with fists like huge hams! Not much hair, and I think his eyes were green. Called you "Yani" til the other corrected him. I'm not sure his wits are there, if the truth be told, but I wouldn't want to be tellin' him that. His friend seemed a happier sort. Shorter, full head of hair and oddly piercing blue eyes. Said he had to find you, he was 'worried for your soul' which made the big man laugh. I don't like it, Eli. A trip to the pumps won't hurt them any, and it'll keep your soul where it should be, right there in your body." The man pours Eli a drink from the good stuff, ready to keep an eye out for such fearsome ghosts from the past.

Eli coughs, forcing his lips to keep back his mouthful, only to be betrayed by his nostrils, where the liquor finds its exit.

"You can't be serious?! How, you couldn't have... made that up." Eli wipes his nose on his sleeve, his eyes watering from the reverse flow.

"Avery, I think you just described folk from Greengold. Folk that should have stayed put, but tend to be kinda bull-headed." He rubs his forehead, setting down his mug. He looks himself over, then starts to run his fingers through his hair and beard, trying to straighten things out. "I'm not sure if you put my mind more or less at ease."

Serra:
Kastor falls into step with Serra as he goes about his duties, whistling along with the knight. As Serra pauses, Kastor offers, "Perhaps I should polish your armor before the meeting with the Queen this after, Sir. I wouldn't want her thinking you had a shoddy squire seeing to you." The boy peers at the armor,as if trying to see himself in it.

Avery pats Eli's shoulder as he coughs, then sits back. After a moment his eyes grow wide and he whispers with a coarse cough. "There they are! Right there, talking to Byrgitte and Breye- oh! They're coming this way!" the short statured engineer takes keen interest in his drink, though Eli can feel that his true focus remains on the men coming up behind him.

"It seems the Sisters of Mercy over there have a better ear for description that you do, my friend, the smaller of the two offers jovially, as one hand falls on Eli's shoulder. "For they recognized our description of this reprobate right off."

The other's shadow falls over the table as he joins the first. "And so they did, Marcus. So they did." His meaty hand on Eli's other shoulder, and gives it a squeeze. "Though how, I don't know. He's an even sorrier sight than when I last saw him."

Avery continues to watch from beneath his brows, a murmur of something or other just on the edge of his tongue.

Eli shakes his head, hangs it for a second, then turns to face his fellow journeymen. "By the gods." He looks first at the aged man, temples whitened with time. "Marcy, I wouldn't have believed it, but with my own eyes." Eli turns to the giant of a man.

"Saul, if Marcy talked you into this, I am sorry. Is Bettyanne well? She let go of you long enough for you two to travel this far north, eh?" He pats the callused hand on his shoulder with one hand, using the other to slick back his hair.

"Marcy, I understand you've come to worry for my soul. You could have done that in relative peace in Greengold. What was so important you had to find me, and risk running into demonkind to do so?" Eli looks relaxed in posture, but the look of concern on his face is evident enough.

@Kastor:

Serra smiles at the thoughtfulness of his young squire, agreeing.

"Come, boy," Serra asks, needing help removing his armor. "That's a good idea." He stands and lets his squire attend him.

"You know, after tonight, things are going to change. We, our world, and the world of our friends may never be the same. Some are calling these times the 5th Crusade...but I do not yet believe it," Serra opines.

"You know, Kastor. Maybe this *is* the start of a new Crusade...and if that is the case, should we not tell the story? Write down our deeds and that of our companions? Do we not have a duty to future knights to share our experiences so that they may learn the knighthood?" Serra opines aloud.

There is so much I wish to do now...whereas before, I had few dreams.

"Well, as long as you can move as quickly as the slowest member, then you are not slowing us down." And you seem to know the risks, and be willing to take them.

"Fortunately, Xanthos moves quickly, otherwise I'd be the slow poke. I'm told human knights aren't that quick. At least that's what the Elves said. But Cathyra was brave and just and worthy, so the Elves, or at least the Calistrians, aren't always....uhhh, 100% truthful, I guess."

The Gnome is happy to finish his business and assist Amber before venturing to find his comrades.

"Bettyanne is fine, and better than I deserve, but she understood better than either of us when the dreams came. T'was BettyAnne that sent you this, in fact, though you don't deserve this anymore than I deserve her." The large man draws a dusty bottle from his bag, swathed round and round in rags to protect it. Pulling it free, he hands the Applejack to Eli with feigned reluctance.

"Would that I could, for Greengold is a balm to my aging bones this time of year." His blue eyes twinkle, but something other than humor peeks from their depths. His glance pops to Avery and he hesitates, " but enough of our silly travel tales. There'll be time enough for that on our way to...where exactly are we going?"

Eli reaches for the bottle, his hands lightly shaking. "Too good is right... but it won't do to disrespect her thoughtful gesture by declining such a fine gift." His smile is a mix of gratitude and embarrassment.

"Saul, you are no bottle bearer. Thank you for protecting the other fragile cargo on your way here." Eli punches Father Marcus in the shoulder. "I won't disrespect you now, and tell you to return to your lovely wife, though the both of us know you really should. If you traveled long enough with Marcy, then you're likely convinced as much as he is in this pilgrimmage."

"You've arrived just in time, too. Whereas we've been witness to the destruction in Kenabres, we're no longer tasked here. Judging by the light, we're due to depart for Drezen in just a few hours. If you're lucky, Marcy, I'll introduce you to the Queen of Mendev herself."

Serra:
Kastor works diligently as Serra talks, nodding at the appropriate places. Finally, he stops and looks up at the knight. "You know, Sir, if only there were time, I would say a visit to Graeme was in order. Your armor grows tighter through the shoulders, and is too big here, in the middle. Do you think it's from carrying the ranseur all the time?" he grows silent as Serra offers a way for him to be even more useful on this journey.

"I would be honored, Sir. I do worry that I may not do it justice, but I will do my very best. Helen believes this is the 5th Crusade, Sir. She says that this is either the beginning of the end for us, or for the demons on Golarion. Maybe she will help me with my journaling. She has very good penmanship."
