Actually, they already stated a 9 headed one and it's CR 10, so maybe 8 headed with a level of barbarian or something.

That's if he's a cryo/pyrohydra. Base hydras with 10 heads would be CR 9. I'd prefer to avoid the Advanced template, so I do like that better.
@Tikkik Could you stat Tikkik out as well as the W.M.D.? I think it would make sense for him to be a level 8 character--'lieutenant' level, basically. Most of the time it wouldn't matter, but if, say the W.M.D. were disabled, it would be good to have his stats.

Alright, 10 heads it is! And yeah, I didn't want Cephalon to be a variant hydra. Strictly speaking, the pyrohydra is probably better, since it loses one of its weaknesses, but I don't want to dilute the concept. He's just a particularly intelligent version of a monster that's not typically intelligent.
So, now that we know how many HD he's got, let's roll!
10d10 + 40 ⇒ (5, 5, 6, 7, 8, 7, 10, 8, 8, 2) + 40 = 106

I think two weeks, ya.
This is a link to the Google doc where I will be keeping everything. I'll post it here and and in my alias (which I'll create if chosen), but that will be the one stop shop.

Just so nobody thinks I've disappeared, I'm just letting Almonihah know that my gargoyle is almost ready. I still need to finish skills, equipment, and background. And the dungeon floor, of course. I'll update again when I have more completed.

Just posting interest. If there is still room I would love to put forth a submission.
I'm afraid recruitment is at phase 2, so past the point of accepting new applications.
I've glanced over everyone's submissions, but I haven't had as much time as I'd like to go over them (Okay, fine, I was playing Civ VI). I'll PM you comments as I'm able to get to them.

Could you pick something else instead of the Advanced template? As I believe I've mentioned, I'd rather avoid the Advanced template. It could be interesting for him to have a level of Brawler or something similar. Looks good other than that thus far.
For equipment, you could have a Belt of Giant Strength custom-made to fit you, or a Ring of Protection, or something more exotic. Hunt around the magical gear options--I'll probably approve just about anything that seems interesting and unusual.

Hey, does anybody know if there's a way to make items on a creature invisible, either at will or all the time?
Basically, a gargoyle can use stealth plus its freeze ability to make others think that it's a statue (e.g. the inanimate type of gargoyle). This is ruined if the gargoyle is wearing a belt or has an ioun stone floating around its head.
Almonihah, if there isn't an existing way to do hide items, is there any chance you'll let me design a custom magic item for this purpose?
Andostre |
Hmm... how about having them turn stony with you? So when you freeze, your gargoyle-ness makes them look like they're also made of stone.
Yeah, that would work. Or even just look like stone. If I can't find anything like that, can I create a custom magic item?
That's essentially what would happen. Pathfinder doesn't really differentiate between you and your equipment most of the time. When you freeze your equipment is assumed to have become inconspicuous as well
But nothing actually changes/transmutes/becomes illusory when a gargoyle freezes. The whole ability is just that it stays really still. A real person trying to stay still would breathe, sweat, might get an itch or have to sneeze, or may even flinch or dart their eyes. I think that the intent behind the freeze ability is that a creature gargoyle is visually indistinguishable to an inanimate gargoyle.
Just don't buy a belt with "FAKE STATUE" inscribed on the buckle.
SAGE ADVICE! Along those same lines, I won't buy the ioun stone that looks like a downward-pointing arrow.
Andostre |
Well an ioun stone even if made to look like a normal rock is still going to orbit.
Yeah, but I'm not trying to get every magic item slot filled, so I was just going to not worry about ioun stones.
However...
Unless you have a western star ioun stone, then it renders all ioun stones invisible while giving you disguise self at will. Nice to have in general, makes all your other items disappear too if you want.
That sounds like a definite possibility! Just choosing to look like a non-bling gargoyle for the disguise self spell would solve the problem! Thanks!

Do you have any objections to Cephalon wearing armor? As a Huge nonhumanoid, armor should cost 8 times as much for him, but I'm pretty sure the cost of enchanting it remains the same. Unless, of course, you're opposed to the idea of an armored hydra, in which case I can probably find something else for him to get.

All right, my gargoyle is done. Following Almonihah's advice, instead of a rogue-like slayer, he's now a rogue.
Will finalize the dungeon floor, ASAP.

Dungeon is up. I left out gameplay details and I feel like I forgot something (I should add some more monsters) but this should be its final shape. Thank the Gods for online graph paper.
