Acelyn's bolt lands in the greasy floor next the beetle, his aim put off by the creature being so close to the ground.

"This lab is my life's work! Hehehe! You will never take me alive!" Ooze drips from Laszo's mouth as he spits while speaking.

Bishop's intimidating words aren't very intimidating after he misses the evasive Laszo once again.

To keep you apprised of your enemies' condition, both are prone, the beetle hasn't been damaged at all yet, and Laszo has taken a few hits.

With combat over, the addicts groan as they notice their dead dealer. Who would get them their fix now that he was dead? The thought made them anxious, although they were far too weak to show it.

Laszo's corpse glows brightly as Mr. Peppers detects magic on it, likely owing to his magical armor and cloak.

The addicts scarf down the food and water, grabbing it out of the group's hands. They struggle to understand Mr. Peppers' questions and grunt collectively about a dozen times, the sound of them forming a cacophony of zombie groans. You get the impression they aren't able to understand what's really going on.

They're basically way past the point of being able to answer questions.
You now have Delroya's required items though - the vial and the notes. Deciphering them is optional, as is rescuing the addicts. There is a likely to be a temple in Diobel.

Remove disease would help with the addiction. The drug has an effect that causes them to forget things almost constantly, though, which is why they aren't really able to share much.

Mr. Peppers and Begrilda manage to decipher Laszo's notes. They learn that whip is a drug of his own design and that he resents that the Aspis Consortium has already begun to mass produce the drug from his imperfect formula. He blames a few individuals - implicating them right in his notes - who live in Diobel for allowing whip to spread before he could perfect it. This information will be invaluable in shutting down the operation. The effects of whip are also detailed, and when translated from crazy alchemist garble to actual effects, you determine the following:

25% chance to forget everything that takes place during the next hour
1d3 Int, Wis, or Cha damage. Causes major addiction.

Begrilda profusely thanks the priestess for her generosity in caring for the addicts. If the group hangs around the temple for any period of time, she will observe the treatment, trying to pick up any unfamiliar techniques she can.

When the group leaves the temple, Begrilda approaches Bishop, "You know, Bishop, I'm not entirely sure I appreciate your way of doing things. You broke into that captain's quarters, then nearly murdered that alchemist when he was under the effects of Sirettis's powers. No, that doesn't seem right to me. Still, your way of doing things helped us to accomplish our objective, and it was in service to defeating a greater evil, so I'll try to understand." She trails off and remains silent for a moment, until she pipes up again and smacks the man on the arm, "But don't behave like some sort of criminal if you can avoid it, alright?"

Back to the ship for the night?

Immediately upon exiting the sewers Mr Peppers will thoroughly clean himself and anything that was 'exposed' from being in the sewer using magical goodness. "Sure is nice to be out of that place. I was beginning to think I needed to purge my sinuses with some smelling salts!"

You know...the way Begrilda is addressing him, im am very much reminded of a cleric who'd lecture the E aligned characters she travels with, and only condones their actions for the sake of a higher cause.
Let's play Archive Might & Magic, by Thuryl.

What a naive woman... Sirettis stares at Begrilda, head cocked curiously. "If not for Bishop's initiative, we would have failed to access the documents and the dealer could have ambushed us, not the other way around."

"In the end, we have helped several addicts at a chance of recovery and removed a dangerous figure from the streets of Diobel. These results fall within my tolerance, and so I approve."

Meanwhile, the forces behind the scenes let all the heroes do the dirty work, and usurp the power in the end.

Our ideas of dealing with situations might not all match, but the outcome of this is certainly satisfactory."

"Yes, of course there is much good that has come out of Laszo's removal. I just...I had hoped there would be a better way to remove him." Begrilda looks genuinely remorseful about the man's death, despite all of his evil, including him attacking her new comrades. "I suppose you're right," she goes on, "Sometimes violence is unavoidable. Bishop, I do appreciate your willingness to do what it takes to accomplish what needs to be done. I just hope we do not have to make a practice of killing people to do our jobs."

Bishop can only look with surprise at the berating from Begrilda.
"I had thought this was why Venture Captain had selected me to aid in this endeavor. I think you mistake me for a common thug, Priestess.

Having followed the ways of The Great Redeemer no doubt she has led me here to learn from your wise words. Know that my meager skills are always in service for the betterment of the Society. I am only happy that the few tricks that I learned during my year of training at the Society proved helpful in allowing to rid the world of one who harbored so much evil and corruption.

But it is understandable that you mistake my actions for appearing so criminal. Please accept my apology as I accept your guidance. " he smiles at Sirettis and silently thanks her for coming to his aid.

Hopefully that closes that door. What is it with this dwarf? No wonder this Gallix had run off in hiding

I'm loving the character interactions.

You head back to the Sixwing Drake and down into the crews' quarters and into your guest rooms to rest for the night. Zzzzz...

The sun rises on Fireday to reveal a cloudless sky and calm seas. Around noon, Captain Zendrani calls a meeting on the deck of the Sixwing Drake.

"Good morning! I trust you've accomplished what you set out to do without incident." She smiles at you. "An urchin boy delivered this note just a few minutes ago. I tried to keep him here so we could talk to him, but he slipped away without a word and ran off into the city. I haven't looked at the note - but it seems to be from Delroya." The captain hands over the note.
