"A potion of endure elements. Useful for long journeys."
Sirettis |
"Now it would be a good idea to craft an image of a cloud at the base of the stairs, Miss Poshkettle. They expect us to approach from there."
Mr. Peppers |
Looking around seeing everyone ready Mr Peppers urges some action. "Sorry I've delayed things with this magic, but Gallix's magical enhancements won't last forever, so we need to act soon."
He then pulls out that ivory wand (bless weapon) again and proceeds to start failing to use it for 5 rounds on Uesugi's katana.
Sir D. Arthraven |
"That cloud effect could work. Which direction will we actually come from, in return. Total opposite would take too long, 90 degrees further would seem appropriate to me."
Gorgeous Gallix Granbonne |
"Right, well, whatever we do, we better do it soon. Like Peppers said, this body doesn't last forever." Gallix once again holds his potion of Shield of Faith ready and moves to the base of the stairs.
Sirettis |
"Alright. Illusory cloud at the base. We approach from the side. Sounds good?"
Cup |
"Before we do the cloud, should I do a ghost sound that roughly approximates my singing coming from that direction as well to really fool them?"
Gorgeous Gallix Granbonne |
That's my question too. If we're putting the cloud at the base of the stairs, how is that meant to draw their attention away from where we're coming up? I like Cup's idea of the ghost sound, though.
Sirettis |
Ah, I wanted to make a smoke cloud so the goblins wouldn't shoot at us immediately.
Ghost Sound will be useful because it will split the goblin force even more.
Mr. Peppers |
Mr Peppers will take a look at the stairs to see if they look reasonably sturdy for medium sized creatures Untrained Knowledge: Engineering? Perception? +3 to K/E, +2 Perception, you decided.
Stairs ok?: 1d20 ⇒ 16 "We sure these stairs are going to hold us? Goblins are quite small compared to a human or an Elf even. If we've got some rope handy that may be a good idea... rope and maybe a grappling hook? As a backup? That servant of Miss Cups could hook it up near the gate."
GM Red |
I think that'll do it.
Mr. Peppers elven eyes notice something off about the stairs. He catches a glimpse of a rope running beneath the center set of wooden panels. The rope appears to run up the adjacent fence and finally to a set of flimsy glass jars hanging above one of the buildings.
Marked this on the map
Sirettis |
"So, we either risk the wall collapsing, or tripping the wire." Sirettis ponders. "Sir Arthraven, could you cause the wall to collapse using one of your blasts? If not, we should conjure the illusion of the cloud to aid our approach up the stairs. We can take it slowly to avoid tripping upon the wire."
Gorgeous Gallix Granbonne |
"Great," Gallix mutters. "The little buggers are clever. First they set an ambush for us and now the stairs are trapped. Who knew this'd be so tricky!" He takes a look at the stairs for himself, "Does anybody know how to disarm a trap?
Mr. Peppers |
"Maybe we can just cut the rope so the jars don't fall? I wonder if that piece of stairs falls out if you step on it. Could that solid note hold up the section of stairs from falling?"
I'm again reminded we have no rogue like character! Where's Frankie when you need him...
Gorgeous Gallix Granbonne |
Yeah, we also need someone who's trained in the skill, which is not Gallix...yet.
Sir D. Arthraven |
"I could, Sirettis-san, given a little time.
I can also shoot at the trigger of traps from a distance."
Cup |
Can we see the cliff face on the map? I am wondering if one of D's blasts could cause the rickety parts to fall as a distraction. My one concern is that we still don't know where the girl is, though.
Cup looks at the stairs. "My solid notes are strong enough to hold me up. It might be able to bolster that part of the stairs, but only a little bit. They already know we're here. Perhaps we can cause a rock slide with a targeted noise over there to cover our approach, if we can pick a spot that won't hit the camp?"
Sir D. Arthraven |
If we proceed with the shooting at the trigger, or the walls for that matter.

I crudely highlighted the cliff face in green. The stairs start at the northern end of the map and rise up the cliff to the shelf that the camp is based upon.
Assuming you go ahead with D's sand bullets,
D blasts the goblin's trap with a barrage of sand. The rope snaps and three jars come swinging down from the roof of a building inside the camp, smashing against the wall of said building and dropping a thick, moldy brown goop onto the stairs below. Luckily, none of you were on the stairs when this happened, but if the goblins weren't aware of your presence before, they definitely are now.
Mr. Peppers |
As I said earlier, I'll be out most of today so please bot me. I'd like to try getting that bless weapon on Uesugi then wanding random gobs. Groups get the aoe treatment.
Mr Peppers gets a 'gross' look on his face when he sees the jars smash. "Guess that means we're off!" As he takes out his ivory wand and starts poking Uesugi's sword with it. 5th try works I believe from before.
Sirettis |
"Then quickly, up the stairs, then. Could you provide cover, Miss Poshkettle?"
GM Red |
Alright, your intentions seem pretty clear, so let's move this ahead. I assumed Cup went ahead with the Ghost Sound here.
After Mr. Peppers blesses Uesugi's sword, Cup creates the deafening sound of a dozens of men climbing up the cliff to the northern end of the camp, shouting out Death to all goblins! You use the distraction to quickly make your way up the now mostly benign staircase. Gallix leads the way, each of his feet causing the wood to creek and crack as he steps along the crude panels. You carefully step over the nasty brown mold, and stealthily move towards the gate. Finally, you reach the top and gain a better view of the camp. A piecemeal steel and iron fence runs between two wooden buildings. A seven-foot-tall wooden gate constructed from fragments of tower shields blocks a crudely cut hole in the fence.
Upon closer inspection, the gate doesn't appear locked, but it does appear fastened from the other side when pressed on.
Sirettis |
Sirettis lets her hair down as she reaches the gate. "Gallix, I will help you knock the gate down."
Str Check: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (2) + 4 = 6
Her hair balls into a fist, splatters against the fence. "Ugh. This should have been easy."
Gorgeous Gallix Granbonne |
Gallix smiles as Sirettis lends her aid to the effort of breaking through the gate. "That was a good try, little sis! But when you're trying to break a big obstacle like this, you need to meet it with an equally big force. You have to use your whole body. Like this." Gallix lowers his shoulder and braces himself, digging his feet into the loose dirt atop the overhang. He leans back from the gate to build momentum, the swings his entire body, shoulder first, toward the gate.

"Oof! Why is this NOT moving?!"
Mr. Peppers |
Mr Peppers, steps over the mold, taking a quick look at it, then, once reaching the top of the stairs, casts detect magic and double checks the gate area.
Knowledge: Nature vs mold: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (1) + 7 = 8
If the gate still won't budge he'll help push on D for some more force. "Don't mind me D."

Uesugi Hideyoshi |
Mr. Peppers finally gives Uesugi the nod that his wand has worked blessing the katana. He trails behind as the others rush up the old rickety stairs finally reaching the landing when he watches as the barbarian lays a shoulder into a tall gate blocking their entrance.
GM Red |
Mr. Peppers recognizes the brown stuff as brown mold.
With the combined efforts of Gallix, D, and frail as he may be, even Mr. Peppers, the center of the gate gives underneath the weight of the Red Arm team and swings open, fragments of tower shield and wooden splinters littering the ground.
The small practice yard is surrounded by a crudely made metal fence and several small wooden buildings. Mud and morass cover the ground, and the sickly sweet stench of decay hangs heavy in the air. A rusting metal gate blocks the entrance to a cave to the northwest. In the center of the yard, a stubby rectangular building sits upon a roughly hewn stone foundation. A crude depiction of a three-eyed face decorates its door.
__
"Leeza, longshanks here!" One bile-covered goblin looks around from the corner of the wooden building as a much more warty one peers over the cliff, attracted by Cup's magical sound.
"They here! Slice them! Kill them! Bring them to chieftain, he give you more purple stuff! Go!"

Excellent song as usual, Cup! Very appropriate! Sorry to hear you're not feeling well. :/
Gallix recovers his footing after bursting through the door and sees the blue-eyed goblin careening toward him, his weapon raised high. [i]Gee, I wonder what he's going to do,[/ooc] Gallix thinks as the goblin steps up. The little beast chops downward with his weapon, but Gallix smoothly side-steps the obvious attack, sending the little cretan off balance. Moving to the front now that they are inside the goblin camp Uesugi looks at the squalid appearance of the goblin fort. Refuse, garbage and what looks like feces litter the yard.
'This place will need to burned.' is all he can think as two residents of this sty move forth to stop their progress. The barbarian easily sends one back the way he came as his fist smashes into the ugly creature's face.
