Let's say L9.

Are the orange blocks more bookshelves?

Krezen will be on J:10.

Forgeborn map Armorist(Symbiotic Knight) / Incanter 6 || HP 53/60; g

H 12

Yes, the orange squares are bookshelves.

Finally, a tall, slender tiefling emerges in the northern chamber. His mouth is flat, and his eyes reveal gray and the exhastion that comes with three centuries of age. With a solemn expression on his cheeks, he hisses
"Time to die."

As the tiefling's nose wrinkles, a burst of water emits from the ground immediately southwest of Jan, and a whirling ball of water spreads 15 feet in all directions, engulfing the statue and table, but stopping short of the bookshelves.

spellcraft, 18:
The splinter of Karavakos has conjured an Aqueous Orb, but he has enhanced its power to be far greater than those of the more common version of the spell, almost to mythic proportions. His augmentation makes it bigger, and deadlier, and easier to maneuver than ordinary aqueous orbs.

Those covered by the water are swept into a whirling pool of barraging water, battering you constantly, exhausting you...

Everyone in the area takes nonlethal damage: 2d10 ⇒ (6, 10) = 16 A DC 19 reflex save negates the damage.
If you failed the save, make another save (DC 19 reflex again) or be engulfed in the whirlpool. If you are engulfed, you are immersed in water (so can't breathe unless you can normally breathe in water) and are Entangled.

Initiative order:
Arat Karavakos -- 25
Krezen -- 23
Gemheart -- 20
Jan -- 18
Arat Karavakos again --5

The map has been updated. The light blue are the squares engulfed in water. Krezen's turn is next, once he makes his saves.

Reflex: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (10) + 10 = 20

Somehow Krezen manages to avoid the surprising attack, and the whirlpool burst - he dashes to the side - "Treacherous bastard! Is everyone ok?! Let's show him hell!"

Move to G:8, and starting Inspire Courage: bonus is +2

Krezen escapes from the whirlpool.
Gemheart's turn.

Forgeborn map Armorist(Symbiotic Knight) / Incanter 6 || HP 53/60; g

Gemheart will use Energy Leap coupled with Selective Blast (to ignore the Angel assuming it is a creature), turning into a mass of shooting stones that reforms in L5 next to Karavakos.

Yep, you can move, but it is difficult terrain.

Assuming Energy Blast can get you out of entanglement (otherwise you'd need to make a save):

Gemheart escapes the whirlpool.

Jan's turn.

Jan fights his way past the roiling ball of water. Once free of the water he nimbly jumps past the Tiefling.

Double move. First move through difficult terrain gets me to K-7. Then second move, using acrobatics to tumble past the splinter to J-4.

acrobatics to tumble: 1d20 + 14 ⇒ (5) + 14 = 19

Now that I am close to him, does this Tiefling look like the one that sent me to the pyramid from my home town on Golarion?

Jan escapes the whirlpool and approaches the Splinter.

As you move into the northeast chamber, the northwest chamber becomes fully visible. It is much like the others--empty except for a few shelves of books and furniture. However, a pair of shimmering, translucent curtains envelope the doorway into it from either the south or east.
The light green lines are the translucent curtains.

spellcraft, 20:
There is something fishy about the curtains. They might be able to curl around and grab one who attempts to pass through.

Jan:
This creature does resemble Karavakos. However, the Splinter standing in front of you appears older, and his eyes are dull in comparison to the bright, wild eyes of the tiefling that brought you here.

The Splinter floats 20 feet up into the air, though he leaves himself vulnerable in the process both Jan and Gemheart get AoOs.

No more sounds!

An earth-shattering screech pounds in the ears of Jan and Krezen as the tiefling waves his hands

Spellcraft, 16:
He is casting Ear-Piercing Scream, but it has been enhanced to affect multiple targets and be more powerful.

Jan and Gemheart take sonic damage: 3d8 ⇒ (5, 1, 5) = 11 and are dazed for three rounds. DC 17 fortitude save halves the damage and negates the daze.

But the Splinter has hardly finished casting when he begins speaking another incantation. His voice projects again into your minds:
No more sight!

spellcraft 18:
He is casting Acid Spit (1001 Spells, pg 38.) This spell blinds its target and deals acid damage over time, unless washed off by soaking in water for a round.

Two globs of acid materilize, right on top of Jan's eyes!
Jan takes acid damage: 6d6 ⇒ (4, 3, 1, 1, 2, 1) = 12 and is blinded as the acid burns his eyes. A DC 19 reflex save negates the blindness and halves the damage. The acid will continue burning and doing damage next round, too.

The splinter then beckons to the water, and the whirlpool rolls north, reengulfing Krezen and Gemheart. At the same time, the tiefling flies east past the curtain and into the next chamber.

Krezen and Gemheart are now in the whirlpool's path again: They take nonlethal damage: 2d10 ⇒ (10, 9) = 19 (DC 19 reflex save negates). If you fail the save, you must make another DC 19 reflex save or be engulfed in the whirlpool (entangled and underwater).[ooc]

Meanwhile, four lizards, much like the ones you fought in the previous room, sprount from the ground of the southwest chamber! All four hiss ferociously....

To summarize: Gemheart and Krezen need to save against the whirlpool again. Gemheart and Jan need to save against the ear-splitting spell, and Jan also needs to save against the acid spell. After that, it's Krezen's turn. A lot happened at once because the Splinter of Karavakos gets two turns in a row.

And happy Thanksgiving, if that's something y'all celebrate.

I can also cast levitate if we don't have ways to get him at range. I think I'd prefer to hit him with ranged attacks when he tries to cast though.

i was thinking the same, but i figure that it is probably the case that he does since that is how the initiative chart reads. I know the more powerful rakshasas have such an ability as well but only get a standard on their lower initiative.

Not sure what kind of action summoning the lizards was but if it is anything more than a swift action then he also has quickened spells too, which is scary.

Gemheart wrote:

I don't think you missed any rolls. Arat Karavakos is about 20 feet off the ground.

Gemheart and Jan both smash into the Splinter. Crackling streaks of purple light emit from Arat Karavakos as he howls in pain, but he is still up and fighting.

Still Krezen's turn.

Jan Carpenter wrote:

Well, if the doorway had a door with a hinge, it would probably be broken off. As it is, the walls of the Library of Whispers are strong enough that they force the water to stay in a smaller area. Water is not very compressible, but magic water can be.

I hope all who celebrate it had a merry Thanksgiving ;)

Reflex: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (18) + 10 = 28

Krezen again avoids the rushing water, but as he was getting ready to circle around and try and meet up with his companions, he is faced by the lizards - "I hope you lads are ok!" - he shouts at his friends wherever they are - "Over here is reptile hour or some such!" - he roars, drawing and zapping his wand, and standing his ground.

Keeping up Inspire Courage. Using Wand to cast Shield. Move to G:8

Krezen steps out of the water.
The map has been updated. Gemheart's turn.

Forgeborn map Armorist(Symbiotic Knight) / Incanter 6 || HP 53/60; g

Gemheart will spend a swift action to activate his Claws of the Ice Bear (giving himself spider climb) and then use Crystal Wingbind Energy Leap, leaping straight for Karavakos and passing through his square (so angled upward, clinging to the wall via Spider Climb).

piercing: 8d4 ⇒ (4, 1, 2, 1, 1, 1, 4, 4) = 18
DC 20 Reflex for half damage. When damaged:
DC 20 Reflex or entangled and unable to move. On fail:
DC 20 Reflex or begins to fall. (creatures with magical flight arent affected, so Levitate is up to you, but on fail he is entangled in magical crystals.

Gemheart leaps up towards Karavakos...
and the curtain attempts to grab him before he can reach Karavakos:
Make a DC 20 reflex save, or the curtain grabs you and you are pinned on square G5. Also, moving through the curtain (even with a successful save) requires you to expend either a swift or move action (except for Arat Karavakos, who can get through for free), so make sure you have enough actions to actually get through. Gemheart would know that since he made the spellcraft check earlier, so you can reconsider this move if you want.

Forgeborn map Armorist(Symbiotic Knight) / Incanter 6 || HP 53/60; g

the curtain goes all the way up to the ceiling? and if so, then can i exclude it as a creature so as not to get grabbed? I'm doing energy leap so it is (and i am) a line of energy.

The curtain goes all the way to the ceiling, but it is an object, not a creature. I'm away from my SoP books and I don't remember how Energy Leap interacts with objects blocking the way.

Forgeborn map Armorist(Symbiotic Knight) / Incanter 6 || HP 53/60; g

hmm Selective Blast says creature not object, so guess i gotta make a save. kinda silly, it should let you omit objects, but i guess then people would be going through walls. but that could be tightened up in the wording. oh well.

ref: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (19) + 3 = 22

Gemheart makes it through the curtain and stabs at the Splinter:
reflex save: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (10) + 5 = 15
Seriously damaging the tiefling-like creature,
reflex: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (8) + 5 = 13
reflex: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (19) + 5 = 24

and entangling him!

What square does Gemheart land on? Either way, it's now Jan's turn.

Also, is this website crashing a lot for anyone else?

Using a swift action for the save, and moving to D3.
Edit: if Gemheart is on the far wall then I will move to F3 instead. I want to keep the splinter between us.

Jan then flings a bolt of light upwards, which bursts around the splinter of Karavakos.

burst of radiance damage: 5d4 ⇒ (2, 4, 1, 2, 4) = 13
burst of radiance duration: 1d4 ⇒ 4

reflex: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (14) + 5 = 19

As Jan bursts through the curtain, the Splinter is dazzled and mortally wounded. Barely alive, he gasps
No, it shall not end this way!
Floating to the southwest of the room, the Splinter envelopes himself in an aura of light, healing his wounds
healing: 3d8 + 6 ⇒ (1, 5, 7) + 6 = 19
He's still badly damaged, though.

The Splinter then flicks his wrists, and the whirlpool moves into the northwest chamber, covering Jan.

Jan takes nonlethal damage: 2d10 ⇒ (1, 7) = 8 (DC 19 reflex save negates). If you fail the save, you must make another DC 19 reflex save or be engulfed in the whirlpool (entangled and underwater).

Meanwhile, the first of the lizards tries to run through the curtain:

Getting pinned by the curtain, the lizard attempts to escape:
escape artist: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (20) + 7 = 27

The second lizard also tries to make it through the barrier:
reflex: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (5) + 5 = 10

But they, too, are pinned, and try to escape:
escape artist: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (18) + 7 = 25
and escapes as well.

The third lizard leaps into the air, moving north. While at the peak of their jump, their tongue launches out at the Splinter of Karavakos!
lick attack: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (2) + 6 = 8
After their attack has no effect on the tiefling, the third lizard lands just south of the other two.

Meanwhile, the fourth lizard sends its tongue at Krezen:
tongue: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (5) + 6 = 11

but to no avail.

Karavakos projects the sound of a sigh directly into your minds.
Irritating reptiles shan't stop me.

The whirlpool moves fully into the northwest chamber, now hitting Gemheart too.
Gemheart takes nonlethal damage: 2d10 ⇒ (7, 2) = 9 (DC 19 reflex save negates). If you fail the save, you must make another DC 19 reflex save or be engulfed in the whirlpool (entangled and underwater).

I said no more sound!

spellcraft, 16:

Does that do damage to the splinter? It looks like you could pass through his space.

Jan concentrates, hurling another bolt of light at the splinter. It bursts 10' off the ground, half way between the lizards and the splinter.

Casting burst of radiance again, at intersection of squares C5 & D6. It's really the only thing worthwhile I can do against someone flying. It has a 10' radius so it will catch the splinter and also L1 and L2.

Moving to H5. Rolling acrobatics to get through the curtains, and using boots.

Krezen doesn't quite have line-of-effect to the Splinter. He could get it by moving forward one space to F8, although that would trigger an AoO from L4. Would you like to do that?

Forgeborn map Armorist(Symbiotic Knight) / Incanter 6 || HP 53/60; g

oh! it would. I totally misread the map. I thought Kr was Karavakos. and i thought the red was a wall or obstruction of some sort. well in that case as part of my move i fly through him so as to damage Karavakos.

Crystal Wingbind Energy Leap
piercing: 8d4 ⇒ (2, 4, 1, 2, 3, 1, 4, 4) = 21

Okay. But still Krezen's turn, since the action he posted isn't quite possible.

Yes, I'll do that.

"We're fighting the same, so stay put!" - Krezen grunts at the lizard, risking a step forward to get a clearer shot.

L4's attack of opportunity: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (6) + 6 = 12
The lizard swings their toungue at Krezen, but has no effect.

Krezen's shots fire straight into the Splinter.

reflex save: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (1) + 5 = 6
another reflex save: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (8) + 5 = 13

Gemheart's crystals mortally wound the Splinter, and hold him in place, just as Jan's spell hits.

With a low rumble, the water slows down before dissolving into mist, leaving a barren room untarnished. The Splinter's eyes spin wildly before coming to a stop, and fading into black, empty sockets. The creature then crashes to the ground, completely inert and lifeless. Through cracks in the creature caused by your attacks and by falling, you can see that it has a battery-like device in place of a heart, and that its interior is a mixture of metal and flesh.

Suddenly, a burst of energy erupts from the creature's artificial heart. What comes out is a ball of light, about two feet across. The ball of light darts across the room and out the door, too quickly for you to follow. It effectively has a movement rate of 120 feet, and it can fly.

spellcraft, 25:
This ball of energy is a piece of Karavakos' spirit. It was what was powering the "Splinter," but the construct was also a sort of prison for the spirit fragment, and destroying it released that piece of Karavakos' spirit fragment.

The lizards do not seem particularly moved by the light show, though, and they continue to attack.

The first two lizards attack Gemheart:
L1's tongue: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (16) + 6 = 22

L2's tongue: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (6) + 6 = 12
both are ineffectual. The next two lizards attack Krezen:

L3's tongue: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (13) + 6 = 19

L4's tongue: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (5) + 6 = 11
but they are also both ineffective.

The map has been updated. Notice, the body of Arat Karavakos is still there, and its square is now difficult terrain, but he is inactive. The water is gone, but the curtains that grab you are still there.

Krezen, then Gemheart, then Jan.

Still Krezen’s turn.

Krezen grunts, drawing his bardiche - "You want to play it like that then?" - he roars at the lizard, swinging hard.

Step to F:9. Dropping bow in G:8. Drawing Bardiche. Attacking L:4.

Bardiche: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (12) + 11 = 23
Damage if it hits: 1d10 + 17 ⇒ (2) + 17 = 19
