I second lol.

However in all seriousness, Donkor still has a hero point, and anyone who doesn't want to find themselves back in the plane of water without water breathing might just wanna watch their step!

. . .I personally don't feel as though we need another player. Seven PCs is enough. More PCs can slow things down even more as we wait for people to chime in or take their turns. I'm not massively opposed to it or anything, so if there's somebody who's just itching to join this insane crew, let them at it. The only requirement is that they are insane.

No, there's no one who has actually told me they want in. I'm quite on the fence. I don't want to mess with the group dynamic if we've got it right, though I'm saddened by Breach's non-return - he was a real glue guy. Hopefully he's alright.

It just occurred to me that if we were going to bring another PC in, the sending spell is a really good opportunity to do it. VC Krenshar now has an in-game reason to dispatch aid. But since the aid likely wouldn't arrive for a few days, I think we can defer that decision and see how we're doing. The original plan was for attrition to drop us to 6 players and we have 7.

Ever since the new quote shading came in there has been a formatting bug. If you quote something, your first paragraph return is ignored. I’ve been having funny looking posts for weeks and the anal retentive side in me just wanted to mention it’s not my fault. You may have seen I’ve been experimenting with putting in stray periods and dashes to help break up my text, but that too looks pretty strange. I’ve also been trying quoting text without using the quote function and hopefully that doesn’t cause too much confusion. I imagine the problem will get de-bugged eventually or I’ll find a better solution.

FYI guys, I'm going to be travelling this weekend, so no posts from me on Sat or Sunday. Maybe by then you guys will have settled on what you plan to do in regards to the splicer beast. Don't make me send you a multiple choice! Cause I'll totally do it.

P.S. My aforementioned formatting bug appears to relate to Explorer.

P.P.S. Maybe I can find Bilbo on my travels.

Bilbo gone gone?

I hope the dude's OK.

Second that.

He has been on rotations before where he was out of contact. Perhaps he is just somewhere with no access. Hopefully he comes back soon.

Campaign info tab updated.

My posting is about to become a bit spotty as I head off for the holiday break shortly. I should have computer access from time to time though, so post just as you'd like.

Merry Christmas everyone! Happy Chanukah!

P.S. I'll be looking for your PCs to post their New Year's resolutions here in just a bit, so start thinking em up!

Male Dwarf Cleric 8

Happy Holidays Beetle. Hal's resolution will be to actually REACH the Pyramid by the 5,000 post!

Halstadt Morgrym wrote:

Nope! Sorry. (Worth a shot though)

Hmmmm - another interesting posting bug.

It looks like at some point every one of Ovaron's posts turned into posts by the Sand Sage.

You know he's a powerful NPC when, he can eat another NPC outside of the game.

So I'm letting you guys work this out - do indicate when you've reached a decision or if there's a preference for me to bring the hammer down. I'd like to keep it moving and avoid accumulating crickets, but I don't want to force a decision. For me, anyway, these decision points are a lot of the fun.

Dear Friends,

I think it is time to pull the plug on "The Pactstone Pyramid". Kinda sucks, but after some reflection I think it's time.

I'm sensing a lot of the current posts are out of (much appreciated) loyalty as opposed to actual interest. Post counts never quite recovered from my absence in October and are now down to a trickle. Bilbo returned, but sadly did not return to us. And we would probably all do better to invest our creative energies in other projects. I know how limited your time is and so it meant a lot to me that you chose to spend some of it here.

So I really did want to make a point of thanking everyone for your participation and posts. There were a lot of cool moments in the game and I enjoyed your characters very much. I think we came close to having a very funky PBP game, maybe just missed a few elements to carry it through. I'll try to learn from this and maybe next time, I'll get the mix right or at least get it a bit closer.

A couple of things. First, if you enjoyed the game and would be interested in considering my next game - whenever that might be - shoot me an email and I'll keep your name and email on hand. I'll then give you an advance notice before I post to a recruitment thread, be it here or another board. You can then decide for yourself whether that game is actually for you or not. I just can't say when the next PBP will be. My PBP game before this one was years apart; it is rare that I have the magic confluence of free time necessary to pull it off, but I had a lot of fun with this one so maybe the bug will strike me earlier. (Ha! An unintended Beetle pun - my last one, sniff, sniff).

Next, if you want to know what was coming down the pipe for the Dune Squad, don't hesitate to ask me - either on the email or in the discussion thread. I'll check back here for a while yet. I know I'd have a few lingering questions about the NPCs. Another thing you might try is to read the actual module. It's a good one, if I do say so myself. I regret that I never got to reveal what is in the pyramid for you guys.

Lastly, most of my experience is with live games - perhaps we will come across one another at a con one day. It would be cool to game with you in that capacity.

I wish great games for you all,

Male Human Cleric/8

I hope that there is enough interest from the other players to change your mind on this decision. I can't disagree that things have been slowing down, and I apologize for my part in the low post counts. For me at least though, this is my first day back to a regular schedule since the holidays, and I will expect to be much more present again going forward.

We have lost 3 of the original 9 players - but in my limited experience with pbp's, that's actually a better than average attrition rate.

If the game can't be salvaged, then yes I'm curious about what the future would have held, and will certainly be purchasing the adventure for my own perusal.

I'm not sure if the other players involved in this game were/are aware that you are actually the author of Pact Stone Pyramid, but it does seem to be an excellent one, whether you say it yourself or not. :)

I'll definitely want to be notified of any future pbp's that you run.

Still hoping we can save this one though!

Male Dwarf Barbarian (Breaker) 8

I don't want it to end, to be quite frank. No denying we have a little bit of trouble reaching a consensus sometimes. Once we organize ourselves and set a course, it tends to be smooth sailing.

I check the game many times a day, but there's only so much a single borderline sociopath who doesn't talk right can say. I can't say I've been %100 forthcoming with the opinions either, so don't think I'm pretending to be blameless or anything.

You truly are an exemplary DM, Beetle. You've worked hard to give us the kind of characters and the kind of game we wanted. I did not know you were the author of the module. If I had known, maybe I would have tried harder to actually play, you know, the module. ;) As it was, I was planning to do something reckless in our current situation if nobody did something definitive.

If/when this game ends, I definitely would like to know what plot things you have in store, and I would definitely like to try my hand at another game of yours.

Let's see if my move generates any excitement.

Male Dwarf Cleric 8

I disagree with you Beetle I think all of the players are still pretty enthusiastic about the game! The holidays are a general slow down on this board (every other PBP I am in was dead for two weeks). However as the DM if you don't have the time or passion I understand. I would be very much interested in another PBP that you run. Here is my email:

Hopefully the game will continue if not I would love a run down of what you had in store for us. Thank you for doing a terrific job as DM.

Male Half-orc Barbarian (Invulnerable Rager) 4 / Sorcerer 1/Dragon Disciple 3

I'm still very much on board, and since my Legacy of Fire game seems to have died, I even have better time to post. Six active players is plenty for a decent game, and we could probably recruit someone to take over Breach.

In case we do quit, I'm very much interested in another game with any of you. Especially you, Beetle, now that Donkor confirmed my suspecion about your identity.

Count me on board, too! I know I haven't been posting much, but work was absolutely crazy October through December. I hoped work would slow down after the holidays, but it's looking to be almost as crazy through January. That said, I'd still like to continue this game, Master Beetle. You write the most beautifully evocative descriptions, and it's been a blast seeing the crazy shenanigans our group can get into. So please reconsider!

Well thanks guys. I really wasn’t looking to set off a cheerleading session, just looking to end the game with a little dignity. I’ve seen some games sputter into obscurity without even goodbyes, felt it coming, and thought we deserved a better ending (and perhaps a shameful module plug for a 3.5 relic) before it was too late.

But if you guys feel this game has legs, let’s have them run and see where things go. Apparently, if I understand the recent posts in the other thread, that involves splitting the party and then assaulting the entire dig site. Who wants to miss that? Let’s do it.

Sorry I haven't posted sooner. Been traveling and just now had a chance to check in. I wholeheartedly agree with the gang on keeping this game going. I would love to see how our crazy squad deals with this latest challenge and far we can take this. I would also love to be a part of future Beetle sponsored endeavors, especially with the others on board. And I feel even more honored to be a part of your game now that your identity is no longer a secret. If we don't get much further, it has still been fabulous and a great learning experience for me. Many thanks. Now....what kind of magic can the Pate and friends pull off in yet another dire situation....

Male Half-orc Barbarian (Invulnerable Rager) 4 / Sorcerer 1/Dragon Disciple 3

Beetle, do you have any kind of confirmation from Bilbo that he does not wish to stay in the game?

If so, how do all of you feel about my suggestion to recruit a new player to transform Breach back into a real PC?

Hurgah the Reaver wrote:

No, no, he's just pretty prolific so I chanced to see that he's posting in several other places and games. I infer he's decided not to rejoin. I'd have preferred he let us know instead finding out that way, but he's can do what he wishes - I neglected to make him sign a contract. : )

Hurgah the Reaver wrote:

Good question - what do people think? Do you have someone in mind Jace that you can vouch for?

Male Human Cleric/8

I still feel a new recruit is a good plan. Personally, everyone I know who plays Pathfinder is already in this game though, so I'm not going to be any help recruiting.

I'm all for recruiting a new player, either someone to take over Breach or a new character (maybe a guard who is really a secret Pathfinder Society agent who can help us infiltrate the camp, hint, hint...)

Male Dwarf Cleric 8

I agree with recruiting one more player though I find it unlikely they would want to play someone else's character.

FYI I will be away from early tomorrow morning through late Friday night.

Thanks for letting me know Denis - we'll just make up an entertaining reasons why you are off grid for a few days.

Any takers?

Cool beans and congrats to Jace's RPG Superstar accomplishment. Can't wait to see what you come up with for an organization. Perhaps something to do with this awesome Dune Squad...or portly Potentates.

Congratulations, Jace! And Good Luck!

Good work!

Heads-up guys. I am moving the Beetle hive on Monday. Don't know how long it will be before I am reconnected and up and running, possibly a couple days. I am still around Sunday though, if anybody wants to squeeze any turns in.

P.S. Don't forget to go to Jace's Superstar design thread and say great things!

Good luck with your move.

Having a blast watching the Kurgentate battle!

Thanks Max. Hope it goes well.

(Sorry things are unduly quiet for Gandel)

That's okay. With all of the action going on around the Kurgentate, Gandel and Hal have crept quietly into the pyramid and made off with the Pact Stone - and no one even noticed! We win!

It's not out of the question.

Though so far the 'distraction' has lasted less than a minute. But admittedly, it has been pretty distracting.

RPG Superstar 2012 - Round 2 vote is open.

Hi guys, The round 2 entries of RPG Superstar are finally public, including my Maidens of Veiled Vengeance. I would appreciate it greatly if you would drop by, leave a comment if you like and most of all VOTE for me (Jacob Trier).

Thank you in advance.

Male Humanly Awesome 'n Totally Rockin' Paladin of Greatness

Thread interrupter here. Sorry. If I've intruded to a point of annoyance, just let me know. Not sure if you remember me or not, but that's not important. :)

So I'm curious; you guys have 6 players and you all really want a 7th? Six players is quite plenty, you know?

I took a look at Breach, and if you guys REALLY want another player, I wouldn't mind taking his place. And I got no problem running his character either. I like dwarves and it looks like a interesting character.

Now if it becomes necessary to read the entire thread, that's something I don't have a lot of time for. If that's something you require, then I understand, no biggie. Just thought I'd throw out an option for you.

As far as that goes, though, if you were to re-recruit, I'm postitive there is someone out there that would have more time than myself to catch up with the thread.

I must also say, I thought it was pretty wild you picking up 9 in the first place. Which, to be honest, amazes me you still have 6. That's awesome! Most threads, it seems, have a difficult time keeping so many of an original crew together for such at time.

Congrats to selecting such a good crew, dude! I've skimmed over some of the thread in the past and you're a pretty funny guy. Along with being a real solid DM. Pretty fascinating too that you wrote the module. That's just freaking cool!

Anyway, just thought I'd give you fellas an option, if you're looking for one. If that's not me, or if y'all decide to stay with 6, or if y'all would rather go with someone else, obviously that's y'alls decision and it's absolutely no problem here. I promise I won't throw things at you and call any of you names. :)

Seriously though, it really is all good to me either way. Like I said, just throwing out an option to you. No biggie to me whatever you cats decide.

Okay, thread interruption is over. Nothing to see here. Move along, move along.

Male Dwarf Cleric 8

I don't mind if the DM and other players don't mind. I have 8 to 10 players (depending on the week) in my table top Forgotten Realms game and it runs fairly smoothly. This thread moved pretty well even when we had 9 before so I don;t see it as an issue.

I am sure we could do a brief synopsis to get you up to speed as a 2,600 post count would be a lot to get through.

If we don't get a new player I can only assume the Beetle will end up getting Breach out of the party one way or another as it is tough enough to DM much less DMPC full time. That would be a shame as Breach is a great character.

Male Humanly Awesome 'n Totally Rockin' Paladin of Greatness

I can truly understand not wanting to bring a new player. The chemistry isn't there and it's tough. That's why it's really not an issue with me either way.

Maybe it works, maybe it doesn't. Therein lies the beauty of going with nine and expecting some to drop. If you lose two or three, heck even four, you still have a minimum of five. So your still set with a good rounded party and you have the chemistry you've built from the beginning. No real need for any extra people.

I've managed the last ten pages, or so, and it appears you guys are doing pretty well without him, honestly. I noticed Pact Stone keeps GMPC'n him as well as Jason at one point. Can't help but feel sorry for the guy having to do that. That's a lot of extra work for a DM. Especially on a pbp.

Plus there is the issue of having to get into the character. If I can't get his personality down as well as Bilbo, it's going to seem strange to you all. No sense in that.

I've taken over two pc's on these boards. Both only temporarily, mind you. One went terribly bad, the other went fine.

So it's a toss-up really.

That's why it really isn't an issue if y'all decide to just continue on as is. I completely understand. It's more of just an offer to help out, if needed. I've got plenty of games going(for me anyway), so please, don't feel any pressure. It's all good. :)

I'm cool with you giving Breach a go. He is a great character that may even become better with whatever flair you bring to the table. I think as long as you maintain his sense of purpose and loyalty to the group, things should be just fine.

Male Dwarf Barbarian (Breaker) 8

I'm for it too. If you want to give it a go, have at it! Breach is a really cool character that was built as we went. The characters in a game all evolve as they are played, of course, but a lot of Breach's flavor comes from his history posts. We can direct you to the post where he named and made his axe and shield. That's pretty much what you need to know, right there. :) Also, he's the de facto leader of the dwarves on account of being the oldest, and that Thalia is a lying traitor that will meet a brutal death.

Male Human Writer 2/Dreamer 7

I'm cool with it.
