Current map

As the party rushes to aid the caravan, another sand worm explodes from the ground writhing and makes haste towards the caravan to enjoy the feast.

Khartelosch uses the time Thaane is readying himself to heal him from the wand one more time.

ILW: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (5) + 1 = 6

He seems ambivalent about the battle happening a quarter mile away, but once the others rush off, he calls Malek back. When the third worm appears, he mounts his camel and rides into the fray.

Male HO BBN 3/ORA 3 Init +3, Perc +9, hp -15/47, AC 17/14/17, Save 5/5/4 | Rage hp 23/59, AC 15/12/15, saves 7/5/6

Oops, I forgot that Khartelosch is fatigued after raging. I think he raged for three rounds, so six rounds of fatigue. That was three rounds of wand usage. He uses one round to heal himself and the last two rounds to gather the worm treasure and wait for Malek to return.

CLW: 1d8 + 3 ⇒ (4) + 3 = 7

Current map

Khartelosch pulls a thick leather belt carefully stitched with platinum threading and a large platinum buckle to keep it secured. Again the item is unusually clean for being inside of a beast. He also notices the heavy adamantine chest that was too heavy for Thaane to move.

Current map

The group approaches the melee and sees the remains of several caravan guards as well as many of the horses missing. The captain is dismounted and fighting the first worm with a broadsword.

The second sand worm turns back to face you as you approach it, sensing that you are here to interrupt its meal.

Khartelosch dismounts to hex 146, slaps Malek to run away and limps wordlessly straight to hex 99 with his lucerne hammer at the ready, his rage just below the surface and ready to be called upon.

M Human Pistolero 1/ Oracle 3 /Lore Warden 2 AC 19/14/14 HP 4 /43 INIT +6; PER+8, F7;R7;W1

Thaane stops about 50 feet from the worm and raises his pistol bracing it on his left forearm while his left hand grasps the spear. He takes a breath and steadies himself before letting both barrels loose again upon another worm.

shot: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (13) + 1 = 14

Damage: 2d8 ⇒ (2, 7) = 9

Two bullets pierce the hide of the desert terror as Thaane now grabs it's attention. Despite the slaughter, Thaane makes note of the 19 bullets that he has left in his bandolier.

Current map

Khartelosch, your moving right to its mouth!

Current map

The sand worm eyes Khartelosch and attempts to bite him with his massive tooth-filled orifice.

Rolls:

3d8 + 6 ⇒ (8, 7, 8) + 6 = 29
cmb: 1d20 + 15 ⇒ (10) + 15 = 25

The raging half-orc is bitten and the worm swallows him whole.

29 points of damage, Khartelosch. You resist the acid right now.

Current map

Verrin, you must make a fort save this round from the poison.

The sound of the double hackbut firing is followed by a screeching of pain as the caravan takes their worm into it's final throes before lifelessness.

Current map

Verrin's sincere attempt is unsuccessful in rescuing his comrade.

Ibrah and Silvash are up and then round 2.

- INACTIVE (GM abandoned game) -

Ibrah drops his longbow, draws his temple sword and steps next to the worm, swinging his blade and cutting into its side.

M Human Pistolero 1/ Oracle 3 /Lore Warden 2 AC 19/14/14 HP 4 /43 INIT +6; PER+8, F7;R7;W1

Thaane stretches his hand out towards the worm when all of a sudden, a blade appears from inside of the beast critically cutting it open as Khartelosch falls out of the side and onto the ground. Thaane mutters something as usual and a quick flash hits the worm, drawing his attention.

Current map

Current map

Thaane runs over to Khartelosch to pour his two healing elixirs into the mouth of the barely conscious warrior.

2d8 + 2 ⇒ (7, 7) + 2 = 16

There are about 25 men left unscathed as the captain makes his way towards the conscripts.

Why is the Mwangi woman shackled?

Khartelosch moans in pain. His eyes glaze as he tries to call on his oracle healing but is unable to because of the rage. Thaane's elixirs are like the first drink of spring water after a week's trek in the wastes. His sigh is nearly erotic.

Thank you he mutters, clearly embarrassed to be in this position. The worm was faster than I anticipated. Then his attention seems drawn to something unseen in his vicinity.

Who are you?

M Human Pistolero 1/ Oracle 3 /Lore Warden 2 AC 19/14/14 HP 4 /43 INIT +6; PER+8, F7;R7;W1

A friend of the caravan.

Current map

Noticing the woman too sick to speak at this point, the captain asks the others.

Can anyone confirm this? You were scouting ahead. What happened?

He asks the conscripts.

Male Oni-Spawn Tiefling Magus (Kensai) 4/Monk (Flowing Monk) 2; HP 43/43; Init +2;Perception +14; AC 22 (touch 20, flat-footed 15); Fort +8, Ref +6, Will +10

This is one of the men that helped us against the orc. When we set out this morning we found him being accosted by her and Silas. They were arguing over something called a wayfinder. They began shooting at each other. That may be what called the worms to us. Silas is dead, killed by the first worm.

Now Verrin gathers some acid in the potion vial and begins burial.

Anyone else care to verify this as well?

M Human Pistolero 1/ Oracle 3 /Lore Warden 2 AC 19/14/14 HP 4 /43 INIT +6; PER+8, F7;R7;W1

Yes, that is what happened.

Besides you.

He remarks to Thaane.

Male Elf Rogue 1| AC 17 FF 14 Touch 13| HP 7/11 | F +0 R +5 W +1 | Init +3 | Perc +7

Captain, as we rode out we came upon the three of the arguing. Silas demanded the wayfinder back, Thaane said it was his and was inscribed to prove it, that they buried him alive and that Silas was under a spell commanding him to get it. Silas then threatened to shoot Thaane and Thaane then fired on him. At this point we were close enough to intervene and stop them from killing each other. Unfortunately the first worm showed up then and killed Silas, Tress and Lillyanna. We then headed off to kill the third worm that showed up. I think moving across this desert is going to involve killing the worms as I think our walking is attracting them. Though with these dead we may have killed all in range.

Okay. The Mwangi will remain in custody for now. Everyone tend to your wounds collect what is salvageable and let us proceed east. We should be close to the outpost on my map and barring any further incidents, we should make it before dark. We are low on manpower and we lost about one-third of the horses are gone as well. Let's not scout too far ahead. Keep your weapons at the ready. We will proceed shortly.

M Human Pistolero 1/ Oracle 3 /Lore Warden 2 AC 19/14/14 HP 4 /43 INIT +6; PER+8, F7;R7;W1

Don't tell the captain about the chest or the glowing objects. Thaane whispers to Khartelosch .

M Human Pistolero 1/ Oracle 3 /Lore Warden 2 AC 19/14/14 HP 4 /43 INIT +6; PER+8, F7;R7;W1

When no one else is looking, Thaane examines the ring he found in the guts of the worm.

Knowledge Arcana: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (6) + 3 = 9

He shrugs and places it on his finger hoping it will reveal itself in that manner.

Male Oni-Spawn Tiefling Magus (Kensai) 4/Monk (Flowing Monk) 2; HP 43/43; Init +2;Perception +14; AC 22 (touch 20, flat-footed 15); Fort +8, Ref +6, Will +10

With the dead buried and the wounded bandaged, Verrin examines the glowing red bag that he recovered from the first worms.

Detect magic and spellcraft

spellcraft: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (18) + 8 = 26

Male HO BBN 3/ORA 3 Init +3, Perc +9, hp -15/47, AC 17/14/17, Save 5/5/4 | Rage hp 23/59, AC 15/12/15, saves 7/5/6

Khartelosch nods in agreement to the captain and summons back his mount. Once mounted, he examines the condition of his allies, ready to offer healing to any in need. Sylvash, Ibrah, Thaane and Verrin all look better of than he does, so he heals himself once more.

CLW: 1d8 + 3 ⇒ (5) + 3 = 8

He consults the spirits around him and then chooses to keep the items recovered from the worm stowed away until the group can examine them at their leisure.

Current map

Verrin discovers that when he puts his hand in the pouch 3 smooth stones appear, glowing and slightly warm.

It is a pouch of magic stone. It is the same as the spell magic stone except it produces 9 stones per day.

Male Elf Rogue 1| AC 17 FF 14 Touch 13| HP 7/11 | F +0 R +5 W +1 | Init +3 | Perc +7

Will a few hundred yards be close enough Captain? We'll double check the worms and make sure there's no one left alive and nothing hiding then take our point position

Silvash then checks the corpses on the way out, using detect magic and picks up what he finds.

As he gets up to Khartelosch and Thaane I can check that box and open it when we get time.

M Human Pistolero 1/ Oracle 3 /Lore Warden 2 AC 19/14/14 HP 4 /43 INIT +6; PER+8, F7;R7;W1

Thaane whispers, Great idea Silvash! I'm anxious to see what is in the chest.

Khartelosch casts detect magic on the box and the belt, concentrates for a few rounds and hands the box to Silvash, telling him what he discovers.

I don't have to remind you it might be trapped?

Current map

Silvash detects an ovular thin metal object that appears to fit on the temple of a humanoid.
Silvash concludes his search by finding a belt that looks exactly like the belt that Khartelosch found.

Male Elf Rogue 1| AC 17 FF 14 Touch 13| HP 7/11 | F +0 R +5 W +1 | Init +3 | Perc +7

Silvash picks up the items and will identify them when he gets a chance and puts them in his haversack.

Silvash smiles at Khartelosch No, you don't. I've run into them a few times in my past in my... ah.. travels. I'll check for those first before trying to open it. Thank you for the reminder though, it is appreciated

Initially, I wanted four pcs, but after playing pbp where players come and go, I'm going to take five and maybe even six. I will post more in gameplay today. Get to know each other here. I prefer speaking to be bold , thoughts to be italics , questions or out of character talk to be ooc .

M Human Pistolero 1/ Oracle 3 /Lore Warden 2 AC 19/14/14 HP 4 /43 INIT +6; PER+8, F7;R7;W1

I will use maps when I can. I will be posting around 10p.m. to 12 a.m. central time or gmt-6. Some posts will be from my phone. I have DMed games in my youth, but pathfinder is a bit more complicated than AD&D, so bear with me. I will make some mistakes for sure. I have a general plot and story arc lined out with npcs already created, so it is not really a sandbox adventure.

M Human Pistolero 1/ Oracle 3 /Lore Warden 2 AC 19/14/14 HP 4 /43 INIT +6; PER+8, F7;R7;W1

Also, we have a tiefling and a half-orc. Those characters may face distrust and or discrimination in some places. I like the racial diversity, you two will just have to figure out a way to disguise when in town.

Male Oni-Spawn Tiefling Magus (Kensai) 4/Monk (Flowing Monk) 2; HP 43/43; Init +2;Perception +14; AC 22 (touch 20, flat-footed 15); Fort +8, Ref +6, Will +10

Sweet. Don't sweat the small stuff on judging. We aren't going to bite your head off. Much. As for racial diversity, I am sure dark hooded figures will help instill trust. :)

Verrin eyes the other "guards" for the caravan disinterestedly from beneath the shade of his hood. Maybe these will survive, maybe they won't. A few look like they may be competent, you never know.

M Human Pistolero 1/ Oracle 3 /Lore Warden 2 AC 19/14/14 HP 4 /43 INIT +6; PER+8, F7;R7;W1

I'm going ahead and using Golarion and Golarion deities. I will just add the stuff I want.

M Human Pistolero 1/ Oracle 3 /Lore Warden 2 AC 19/14/14 HP 4 /43 INIT +6; PER+8, F7;R7;W1

I was wondering how everyone felt about loot and magic items. We never really bought magic items back in the day playing d and d. This seems to be the norm now. I would like to determine what objects we find. I'm open to requests as we go, but I don't think that there should be a plethora of magical items. I am okay with crafting though because it takes time and effort.

No. Just the best time for me to post. It is not an issue at all. Once a day is pretty good. The captain is a very impatient man. I'm sure after we get going the pace will slow down. I want to get it set so th hat it maintains everyone's interest.

I kind of assumed the scorpion that attacked us is NOT the two giant scorpions fighting the orcs, but perhaps I misunderstood.

Would it be okay if Thaanne just rolled all our initiative checks together and gave us the breakdown: Heroes A, Monsters A, Heroes B, etc.?

I am confused as to why we got so close that the scorpions could attack us in the first place. Once we saw the battle, I would have suggested that we back off and the let the orcs and scoripions fight on their own and then take out whoever is left.

Could we not have heard the fighting before we got so close?

Whichever is easier. I am newish to pbp so I am happy to go with whatever people suggest.

Might as well move this discussion here.

Yeah, I thought the same.

Let's just say I tracked some (Orc?) raiders into this area.

Is the Scorpion so Stealthy that the PCs can't possibly spot him earlier with a Perception check?

Is this combat a good time to jump in? I think GM rolling Initiative is a great idea.

On both sides of the road, are groups of large rocks. The scorpion caught you by surprise.

I have never played pbp where GM rolled initiative because it is always an important feat that players take and their stats make outcomes very individual. I would prefer if you roll and I just put out the order and recap actions for this reason.

Now is a great time to jump in. Roll initiative please.

That's okay with me.

I only brought it up because I found that it happens that players roll their initiative and post actions and then someone else's initiative is higher and they post their action and the earlier posters want to change their actions based on the later posters' actions. However, it usually sorts itself out by the second round. :-)

You would still use the players' individual stats. We all have our initiative bonus in our stat-line. Instead of each of us typing and posting [ dice=So-and-so's initiative ]1d20 + So-and-so's initiative-bonus[ /dice ] individually, where we would have to wait for everyone to post before we know the order of combat, it would be you typing that for each of us in a single post.

- INACTIVE (GM abandoned game) -

Example

Initiative Rolls:

Crimson Tress's Initiative: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (9) + 5 = 14
Verrin Kord's Initiative: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (13) + 2 = 15
Khartelosch's Initiative: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (3) + 3 = 6
Ibrah's Initiative: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (11) + 2 = 13
Lillyanna Calleigh's Initiative: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (13) + 5 = 18
Silvash Auerial's Initiative: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (12) + 4 = 16
Armistad's Initiative: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (12) + 7 = 19
Silas Warner's Initiative: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (2) + 6 = 8

So the order would be:

Armistad
Lillyanna
Silvash
Verrin
Tress
Ibrah
Silas
Khartelosch

This certainly would be cleaner, I cannot do it from my phone though, so if we decide to do it this way, I can only do it late at night.

Players, please reply with how you would like initiative to be determined. GM rolled or player rolled?

- INACTIVE (GM abandoned game) -

You could put the dice code into a note on your phone somewhere and then just copy-paste it into a post every time initiative comes up.

M Human Pistolero 1/ Oracle 3 /Lore Warden 2 AC 19/14/14 HP 4 /43 INIT +6; PER+8, F7;R7;W1

Also, if your ranged weapon fires against touch AC, please let me know.

I Suspect GM rolled would save a lot of confusion.

Female Half-Elf Cleric / 1 and Ranger / 1 HP: 22 / AC: 16 / Init: +3 / Will: 4 / Reflex: 5 / Fort: 5

GM roll makes the combat go faster. Otherwise you can end up wasting a whole day of waiting for people to roll initiative before you can even get to people stating their actions. If you try to solve that by having people post an action with their initiative roll, then you tend have too many people wanting to go back and change heir actions based on what went on ahead of them in the round.

Anyone opposed to G M rolled initiative?
