"It is subtle, but... listen before judging, fleshlings. This one thinks the town is, oh what is word." He makes a few hissing noises, speaking in Ophiduan trying to gather the common phrase for it. "They are mind-taken. They are in mind not their own. You have seen the eyes of the townspeople, they walk as drugged, the goods are old, this town is prison. It is mind-prison and body-prison, these people are captured." And then he adds in extremely quiet whisper, drawing close to Kazushi and Aidan (and Tio if he drags himself in), "I think the House is keeping slaves. This one could go and look, the wind goes where it wishes."

Then to lessen the conspiratorial look, he says aloud, "Say, friend fleshlings," this is directed toward Bertrand and Syonne, "you are both strong guards of caravan, this one would sooner not see you throw lives away in this town. You are ugly and this woman is too good for you. Should find better lives in not-this-town."

Then, as Kenax apparently tries to provoke Bertrand and Syrone, she looks around for threats or reaction, waiting.

The foxy-lady's quip is lost on Bertrand and Syonne as they gaze into each other’s eyes.

After a brief conference, Kenax decides that insulting is the best way to deal with the caravan guards affliction.

Bertrand starts to rise, before Syonne places a restraining hand upon his arm. "Please don't speak to us that way. House Duarran keeps us safe."

Bertrand nods and sits back down.

Kenax has that moment of dawning comprehension, and he looks at Syonne and Bertand. He turns back to his compatriots. "This one thinks he has figured it out. The question is discretion. I can cause a great problem here, or we can go to House Duarran and... do something." He's certain now that something hinky is going on, and it bothers him more than a little. Robbing people of their free will is offensive and especially these who could have been companions.

"I think heading for House Daurran has more point."

With that Kazushi leads the way towards the exit, adding once she has gained some distance from Syonne, Bertrand and the locals:-

"I don't think there is much to be learned here. But House Daurron is probably too busy keeping everyone safe to spare any time for us."

Tio has been staring, somewhat wide-eyed, at the pair that had been so intent upon leaving just this morning, and then mortified that they'd forgotten their other travelling companions.

"They certainly seem to be popular around here, that's for sure. If they've no answers, there are likely no answers to be found, here. Whatever is going on, however, they seem to be at the crux. I am sure, for such concerned travellers, they will make some time."

"Time made or not, this one will have answers, be they given or taken." Kenax states this at full volume and with no consideration for who or what might overhear. While not normally one to get too emotional over such trivial and petty matters which don't impact him, the thought of someone taking the free will of others simply sickens him, but because he can't show such things, it infuriates him. He storms out of the Eidolon, and heads for House Duarran with all due haste.

Now we are ready for this.

Crossing the northwestern bridge and across from the Colony sits House Duarran. The caravan guards notice a split wooden fence ringing the largest estate in Jace's Stanchion. A pair of guards are stationed at the gate and at any time there are half a dozen guards patrolling the grounds of the home of the ruling family of Jace’s Stanchion.

As the group approaches, two house guards in House Duarran livery cross rusty, if not well made pole arms. Both guards are dressed in leathers and both were seen staring at the horizon for long moments before glancing left or right.

"Good afternoon. What can we help you with?" the first guard mutters in a monotone voice.

"We are looking for our friends," Aidan smiles to guards. "Have you seen two caravan guards here recently?"

"One's a rather large fellow with a rather large weapon, the other simply doesn't know when to put his knives away."

The guards look at each other in confusion. "You seen anyone like that?" one guard asks the other.

The other guard scratches his head. "Can't remember seeing anyone today."

Turning back to the group, the first guard responds, "Nope. No one today. Now who are you all and what can we do for you?"

You believe they are telling the truth.

Kenax speaks to the guards. "We are guards, from the caravan which came in. We would speak to your betters, regarding a mystery and our companions' well-being. Does not House Duarran protect? Two disappeared. Not good for business." He tries to speak well, but is not the most diplomatic. His requests come out a bit like threats.

"What my friend here is trying to say is that maybe we should speak to your superiors?" interferes Aidan. "Two of our companions are lost and two are... well, sick. We don't won't any misunderstanding to stand between us, right?"

"Our betters?" repeats one of the guards.

"Superiors?" adds in the other guards.

Turning to each other they begin a quick conversation that can be heard by all.

"Do you think they mean Odafin?"

"Nah. How would they know him? Probably want to talk to Horik."

"If they don't know Odafin, how would they know Horik?"

Looking perplexed, the second guard just gives a noncommittal shrug.

Turning back to the group, the first guard begins, "Odafin, the master of the house, is away."

"On business?" the other guard adds in triumphantly.

"Yes. But Horik is here. Does he accept visitors?" the first guard queries the second guard.

"Not sure. I'll head to the house. You watch these two."

The guards quickly end their second private conversation which was held out in the open as the second guard treks to the manor.

He returns a short time later with the same languid expression. "Nope. Not today. Try back tomorrow." he tells to both the first guard and caravan guards.

"He also says not to worry about your two companions, Jace's Stanchion is a small place. Probably just enjoying all the town has to offer. If they are still missing come see him tomorrow. House Duarran keeps us safe so I am sure two able body guards, like you described, are just fine."

Both guards nod and smile at group.

You believe they are telling the truth.

"Well thank you gentlemen. Hopefully we will find our friends in town, safe, as you say."

Saying Kazushi, then turning to her companions, continues:-

"Well, there is little more to be done here at present. We should probably try tomorrow. Perhaps we should look for Morris and Simon in this district which the locals call the Colony? I mean it is right here."

Kazushi points across the road at the Colony.

Kenax stays put. "No. Tell Horik we will speak to him or her." I remember the name Odafin, why do I remember that name? "Also, the master of our caravan has come to this place for negotiations. Is he in?" The more that happens, the less Kenax likes it here.

Kazushi draws herself up to her full height, not the most intimidating of gestures perhaps, inhales deeply and speaks first to Kenax and Tio:-

"You are right."

Then to the guards, who she fixes with a baleful stare:-

"Gentlemen! What were your names? I don't think you fully appreciate the situation. Two guards from a significant caravan that was the subject of repeated savage attacks in the immediate vicinity of this village, one of them this very morning, are missing.

House Daurron is well known for the care it takes to keep those who dwell in this town safe. This matter should have been brought to House Daurron's attention before now. If disaster results from further delay, I will be sure to bring it to Horik and Odafin's attention who is responsible for them not being alerted to the possible threat. The master of the caravan is also within I believe and should have been informed before now.

I suggest you admit us now"

I believe the best way to intimidate someone in any kind of bureaucracy is to ask them their name and point out they will be held responsible if things go wrong.

The two guards blink rapidly at the barrage of questions and the ever shifting wave of emotions the caravan guards fire off.

"Names? I'm Lem." the first guard thumbs at himself.

"I'm Clem." the second guard says as the first guard thumbs at him.

Lem looks to the demure kitsune, "You say two guards are missing for how long? A few hours? And you want to tell Horrik that?

"House Daurran does keep us safe, but you have no reason to suspect that anything has happened to them. As for your caravan master, haven't seen him recently.

"As I stated before, Horrik says you can come back tomorrow."

And that is where it will stand unless you all have other ideas, mechanically.

Intimidate:
Influence Opponent's Attitude After the intimidate expires, the target treats you as unfriendly and may report you to local authorities.

Coerce Opponent Coercion is overt, not subtle, and in most cases using coercion against a creature is an evil act.

"Perhaps we were hasty in coming to authorities, it's simply.... perplexing, that other companions can forget them so easily..." Tio muses, running a few fingers through his beard. "Well, I suppose if they do not show up, we shall see you again soon! Perhaps they've already made their way back to their rooms?"

Tio nods. " I certainly have no better suggestion to offer. I sure hope we find the others; working with the two we've already found, addled as they are, is problematic as it is."

As a dejected group leave the company of the two House Duarran guards, Their mood immediately brightens as they cross the road to the make shift community of Dromites, called The Colony by locals. The green coloration of their carapaces indicates their Glimmer caste status.

A regal looking dromite approaches the group. His antennae twitching fervently, he greets them in a warm manor, "Hello. I am Nisk Stone and this is The Colony. What brings you here?"

"Pleased to make your acquaintance Nisk. I am Kazushi and these are Tio, Kenax and Aidan." says Kazushi in replay "We were guards on the trade caravan that arrived today. We are looking for Morris and Simon, two of our fellow guards who seem to be missing. You would not have seen two lost looking human males would you?"

'Hello Kazushi. And Tio. And Kenax. And Aidan." thhe dromite nods to each in turn.

"I do not know who Morris and Simon are. Few humans make their way to The Colony.

"Is there anything that I can help you with?" the dromite looks expectantly at the group. "If not, I would ask if anyone of you wish to entertain the Colony. We would happily offer instruments or materials if any are interested."

"This one has skill at tumbling, but instruments were not made for scaled lips or clawed talon." He seems to be suggesting the use of acrobatics to entertain, as his clearly lacking charisma makes performance unlikely and he has no useful crafty skills.

Kenax focuses his mind on the feats at hand, then begins tumbling. It seems that his combat expertise in balance and avoidance do not translate well to making a show of oneself. He does an adequate job, but it's not very entertaining.

Seeing that Kenax's performance seems to be going down poorly, Kazushi moves to join him. She casts Dancing Lights to provide some improvised special effects and moves to dance with Kenax, who hopefully will allow her to take over.

Her dance is sexy, as that is what she usually does, though not to an extent that would offend anyone, and she uses prestidigitation to colour her performance with flower petals thrown over parts of the audience.

My dancing always goes over a storm with human males, this is so much harder work. Kazushi thinks as the audience starts to warm to her dance.

I am trying hard for a bonus to my roll for creative use of spells to enhance the performance.

Tio requests a set of simple tools, and a sinple, though large, block of wood, then starts to work. He works quickly at first, removing large slices of the hard wood, his hands almost a blur. Once he's determined the relative shape of the piece, he switches to a much finer chisel, taking long, thin strips from the block. Before long, his sculpture is complete, and surprisingly abstract and whimsical, foot the medium he's chosen. To any of the audience who might know, it would appear to be an elemental of some sort, certainly not of physical origin, with the shapes evoked, while the party would recognize the sculpture as a spitting image of a larger Lagun.

Aidan joins Kazushi and Kenax in their improvised dance, using the movements from his combat style - fluid and sharp at the same time. It feels a bit strange without his blades, but he gets drawn into Kazushi's dance and soon it becomes more natural.

As the Caravan Guards turn entertainers, the dromites look at Kenax with a blank expression as he flops and spins before clapping wildly at the Kitsune's dance, Tio whittling skills, and Aidan's much more refined acrobatics.

Nisk begins to talk excitedly, "That was fantastic. Truly spectacular!

"What can the Colony do for you? We are the best source of vegetables, spell components, and various other sundry goods in Jace’s Stanchion." he brags to the group.

"Thanks," Aidan smiles. "That was... an interesting experience. I've never did any performing before."

"Have you seen two humans somewhere around here? One big, the other always plays with his knives," asks Aidan. "We came with the caravan together, but we can't find them."

"Yes, it seems we've somehow lost a few of our travelling companions, and we've grown worried," he says, examining the tools he'd used for the performance. "I quite like these, however, how much would you like for them? I've been missing my kit; I had an old set, but when a chisel shatters..."

"Ah humans. I do apologize but it is [i]challenging[i] for us to distinguish between those of your race. I do remember ... no that cannot be right. There was ... no I am sorry. I do not remember seeing anyone fitting that description today.

"You are welcome to the hospitality of the Colony for however long you wish to stay in Jace's Stanchion.

"And master Tio, I am sure that you can find suitable payment for these tools." Nisk ends in a friendly antenna rub.

Tio, read as regular price, not inflated prices. Unless you want to trade for something in your inventory of similar value.

"Ah, well, it's a pity but thanks anyway."

"Do you know anything about the Duarrans? Everyone in the village say they protect this place, but we haven't seen any guards," Aidan observes Nisk's reaction to the name Duarran.

Nisk gives a long dromite sign. "We make not always agree with the Duarrans' humancentric views, but they do keep us safe. Jace's Stanchion is a nice place, and The Colony has done well here.

"Come would you like a small meal? We have little but would be happy to share."

Nisk motions for the others to follow him. He makes his way to one of their dwellings were the caravan guards find about ten dromities of varying ages all seated around a table.

"It is a tight squeeze, but we can always make room for more."

Tio happily hands over market value for the toolkit, content with the expenditure for something to while away his time with.

"I wouldn't want to be rude, and ignore such hospitality," Tio says, upon Nisk's offer for a meal. "I think I speak for us all when I say we'd be happy to."

"I would be honoured sir," says Kazushi as she follows Nisk. "What do you mean humancentric views?"

Kenax would rather not have gone into their small dwelling, but the group seems to be of one mind that they should (aside from his). He will remain close to the door and not take a seat, declining somewhat politely if asked. "I do not sit in the presence of others." So far as they can recall, no one in the group will have remembered him sitting. He has lain, to be sure, and kneeled, but at no point has he sat.

Turning to the kitsune Kazushi, the dromite Nisk replies, "The wants and need of the Colony often differ from the wants and needs of the humans of Jace's Stanchion. At times we agree, and at times we disagree. Best not to ruin a splendid repast with such negative chatter.

"Come, tell me a bit about yourselves."

The caravan guards take their seats at the very cramped tables where a scattering of multicolored bowls and dishes contain a variety of roasted vegetables, ripe fruits, and herbaceous piles of greens.

"The land here suits our growing needs perfectly. All of these come from our small
indoor garden, where we cultivate rare plants. We hope you enjoy."

Kazushi responds with telling the Dromites a little about the distant lands from whence she comes, she is from Golarion recall, going into further detail where interest is shown.

She also complements them on the food and asks people about themselves, smiling and showing an interest as they speak, turning on the charm essentially.

Aidan joins everyone at the table, engaging in small talk with dromites and enjoying the food - the vegetables and fruits are surprisingly good.

When they spend enough time, he'll subtly suggest to return to Absent Eidolon.

Tio keeps relatively quiet, talking little of his family or his past, happy to let others take the limelight. He eats, and plenty; not a big meat-eater, the fruits and veggies are quite appealing to him, and good, to boot.

After the meal, he nods to Aidan at his suggestion; returning to the tavern sounds a fine idea, and he certainly hadn't any better.

With the meal complete, the Dromites move to clear the empty serving pieces and food scraps.
