I'm settling on The Shepherd and getting his stats together- I'll need to look at the advancement rules to get him finished up but for now he's got 3 in Explore and 2 in Hunting (which is favoured) so he can fill either Scout or Huntsman roles on Journeys. His other main skills are Song and Healing, which are both at 3. He'll become a better field commander in time with his favoured Battle skill. The Shepherd is keen to prove himself capable in battle, so he eschews archery and fights with an axe and spear instead. I'm going to see about getting him a Hound as well, since they're apparently excellent.

Story:

Trained originally as a smith by his father and grandfather, Hanar was in his 30s when his grandmother, aunt, and a few cousins were killed during an orc raid while visiting another hold. When his grandfather, Iorni, announced that he would set out to avenge them, Hanar volunteered to accompany him, against the wishes of his mother and father. His brothers, Borin and Gruin, sided with their parents, and his sister, Grunda, wanted to go with him, but was too young and hadn't the training needed. She told Hanar before he left that she would remain behind and learn the ways of warcraft from some kin, and set out to join them if they had not returned within five years. Hanar travelled with his grandfather for three years, learning from the elder dwarf, who insisted that his education and training be well-rounded. After a gut wound sustained in an encounter with orcs became infected, his grandfather passed away, leaving Hanar his suit of dwarf-wrought mail. Faced with the choice to return home or continue on, killing orcs to avenge his slain family, he realized that it was no choice at all, and pressed on looking for opportunities to bring battle to his sworn enemies.

This is my first char in this system, so if I've missed anything or made any mistakes, please let me know.

I'm also open to changes as needed to fit the theme of the game, etc.

Either way, good gaming to all of you!

EW, I'm submitting Galadhon, a High-Elf of Rivendell. Given your character's background, would you like to link these two together?

I'm trying to create an Elf-Lord. I'm still fiddling around with some bits that the character creator doesn't handle (like XP and Rewards). If you've insight into anything I shouldn't miss, I'm all ears.

Still working on Mar lady dwarf of the Grey Mountains. She's got several ranks in Persuade currently. And plans to hit things with an axe at close range. She has no ranged weapons. Are we looking for a "face" for the fellowship still? I can see her as a traider who can fight or a fighter who can talk. Oh and Slshe really hates orcs.

Rangers and Elves of Rivendell will use the Experience Point cost of all other cultures to advance. Otherwise they can lag 5-10 sessions behind other characters (they're not THAT much more powerful...)

I just read this and need to start again without the online character creator!

CM, my elf is going to specialize in Awe (though not Persuade). It seems to me that unlike Pathfinder, TOR doesn't have just one "face" skill.

FWIW, I decided to make my High Elf a swordsman, not an archer.

EW, I had been building Galadhon to be a Leader, but I see you've done the same with Anariel. I'm thinking of re-building Galadhon to cover more ground in the Fellowship. I think I'll remake Galadhon as a Scholar.

Tarandor- I would be super down with some background links. In my head, my initial reaction is that Galadhon is sent by Elrond to sort of keep an eye on the young Ranger and ensure he moves on the right path, as he is actively seeking out conflict with the Enemy. I could also switch him to Warden if your heart is set in Leadership; Warden still makes a lot of sense for a Ranger.

Cari- I agree with Tarandor, there's no one good "face" skill. As long as we have a decent spread we should be okay. I'm going with Persuade as my social skill. Tarandor will start with very high Awe, so for a Dwarf perhaps Courtesy or Riddle?

i am also melee but the system as a whole doesn't support a group of archers. One (maybe two) is going to be good, I think.

Also Cari, didn't see that you already had a high Persuade. You can just stick with that.

I've got the basics built. I haven't added in the extra advancement points yet. I currently have Persuade 3, Travel 3, Inspire 1, Stealth 2, Explore 2, Healing 1, Hunting 1, Song 1, Courtesy 3, Riddle 1, Craft 3, and Lore 1. She's shaping up to be a diplomatic dwarf.

The Erebor book lets you craft a magic item :D Dwarf-smithing, I think is the virtue.

So so far;

Tardandor- Galadhon; High Elf Scholar. Swordsman.

CariMac- Mar; Dwarf...diplomat? Which I love. I think Slayer was your calling?

Oniwaban- Hanar, son of Hepti. Dwarf Slayer and...I guess Crafter? Also Oni, if you don't have the Erebor book I suggest picking it up. It gives Dwarves some nifty crafting abilities. Also good with a Mattock.

James Keegan- The Shepherd; Woodsman healer/spearman. Also yes, you want the Hound. They're GREAT. Might be the best Virtue in the game. Don't think you listed a potential calling yet. Seems as though we need a Warden, though perhaps Jesper will put forward his character as one.

Inlaa- Brandy Marigold; Hobbit treasure hunter.

ElegantlyWasted- Anariel; Ranger Leader. Swordsman.

Jesper- Interested in sword and board.

thejeff- Interest only.

Hyregoth- interested in an Elf of Mirkwood.

Think that's everyone!

Okay, so here's the deal; I hate saying no to people.

So rather than wait the two weeks, I'm going to go ahead and CLOSE RECRUITMENT.

Everyone that has a character or is working on one? You're in.

Everyone that has expressed interest? You guys have until Monday to get a character done. If you need a little more time than that, just let me know and that's cool, but I'm going to get a game post up THIS WEEKEND.

I know that's a lot of players, but...well, that's nine, which is resonant to me for more than one reason ;) Plus it will help with player attrition :D

I will create the Campaign thread right now and get info up tonight.

Welcome to Wilderland, everyone. By your blood, the Free Folk will sleep peacefully at night.

Or the Shadow will take you all.

Gameplay and discussion are created (no content in gameplay yet). Go ahead and dot in with your aliases, kids!

Yes, slayer was her calling. Though if we need a wanderer I can switch to that. Either one works with the concept.

Nine players? I can see why that resonates. It's definitely a bold move though if everyone makes a character.

I'm eager to see what else we get. I'm glad I'm in though!

Now, to show everyone why the King's army included hobbit archers in the days of yore...

Liberty's Edge

I'm looking into build my char over the weekend, am busy preparing to run another chapter of hell's rebels tomorrow so I'll not get it done before at least sunday.

But I am looking at the men of Minas Tirith with Warden or Slayer. I'll most likely go for a longsword and a shield/greatshield

On that note Circadian would you be okay ammending the XP hit to just 2XP or is that to powerful?

I assume you're talking about their cultural virtue?

I AM okay with that, but in that case, I'm going to amend the Cultural Virtue as well to working once per encounter. Once per encounter re-rolling a crit fail is still pretty dang good though.

Liberty's Edge

Might be that one have to look the book through again when I'm home to make sure.

But I'm fine with 1 per encounter making a critical failure more then once in an encounter should be punishing

Thanks for accepting me, CR.

Since this is my first char/first time with this game, I am open to amending my character as needed to better fit the group. So if CariMac wants to go the slayer route, I am happy to choose another calling or further adjust.

I did grab the Erebor book, and I am digging into it now.

Pathfinder Adventure Path, Starfinder Adventure Path Subscriber

I switched to wanderer. I really made sense with my character backstory and culture.

Ooo. Is your Slayer going to have fought in King Dain's army in the Battle of Five Armies, Oniwaban? I see that mattock skill, and that he's of Erebor.

The idea at this point is that he's fairly young and while he trained with militia and has seen action, he did not serve in the Battle. But he wishes he had.

Think I'm close to have a character now, need a background.
But could use a bit of help with buying gear and how to spend my advancement points.

Suggestion; mark your Favoured skill in italics. If you have a Favoured skill at 1, you could bump it up to 2 with 6 Advancement Points (Favoured skills cost 25% less to raise up than normal skills).

Also, you don't buy gear. You may start with whatever armor or shield you like and whatever weapons you like that you are proficient with. You don't really buy stuff in One Ring, for the most part.

Should be fixed now.

Looks good to me! Go ahead and dot in to Discussion and Gameplay and jump in when you're ready! I have a spoiler in my latest post with all the rolls you are entitled to. Essentially, the Company received a request from Gloin to escort Balin to Eagle's Eyrie, to deliver an important missive to Gwaihir. The Company agreed and set out on their journey. So far they passed the first night in pleasant company, entertaining local Lake-men with stories, and are about to make camp for the second night. You're all traveled about 40 miles so far.

Very new to Paizo and the way things work here, here's my submission, it probably needs some help and explanation but I'm keen on joining in on the fun in Mirkwood.

Of average height and slim build, Gaelderon seems your typical Woodland Elf. Upon closer inspection, the distinct differences begin to appear. Young for a warden, Gaelderon has a knack for being at the right place at the right time. His far away look and seeming detached aloofness only make him seem disinterested. When, in fact, nothing escapes his attention. He is patient and has been known to side idle for hours (if not days) observing his quarry or just staring out over the dark paths of the forest.

Name: Gaelderon
Culture: Woodland Elf
Standard of Living: Martial
Cultural Blessing: Attribute bonuses are based on favored rating (at night, in the forest or underground)
Calling: Warden
Shadow Weakness: Lure of Power
Traits
Specialities: Shadow Lord, Mirkworrd Lore, Woodwright
Distinctive Features: Keen Eyed, Keen Hearing
Attributes:
Body: 5/7, Heart 3/4, Wits 6/9
Common Skills
Axe: 2, Athletics 3, *Awareness 4, Song 2, Healing 1, Battle 2, *Stealth 4, Lore 3

Weapon Skills
(Spear) 2, Sword 1, Dagger 1

Experience 10/14
Valour 1
Wisdom 2

Skill Groups: *Personality, *Survival

Great Spear, Sword, Dagger
Leather, Cap, Buckler

Endurance 26
Hope 12

Looks pretty much correct. Looks like you're holding onto your initial experience? All good with me. Go ahead and dot in to discussion :)

Fifty-eight messages since I checked in...yesterday.

GM, any chance you could slow things down to a point where twice-a-day posters can keep up?

Yes, I'm planning on a much more relaxed posting pace; in the beginning because we had several people new to the system I just wanted to get several things up to provide multiple examples of the game in play.
