Alrighty, let's get this coronation on the road!

Around the noonday hour, an odd thing happens... Birds start to gather around Greenheart.
Not just the usual birds, like the sparrows that come to feed on the detritus of human life. Songbirds gather, their voices at first a quiet chorus, but soon rising to a deliberate chorus that draw the attention of people at work. Nor are they the only ones; a cloud of dark wings briefly obscures the sun as ravens, crows, magpies and other corvids gather by the dozen, their raw voices an underscore to the mellifluous harmony created by their smaller cousins.
And none of the birds are trying to eat or otherwise molest one another.

A dense fog spills forth from the tower where Asta has established her Witch's laboratory and teaching room for the Circle. First from the highest windows. Then from consecutively lower windows. Finally, from the door as it swings open, seemingly of its own accord.

Asta Blackheart comes sauntering out of the tower, a small, victorious smile on her pale face. Her snow-coloured tresses hang freely about her shoulders and the fog caresses her form, while her dark cloak floats about her ankles. Her eyes are Sparks of sapphire blue in all the paleness and darkness she represents.

"Come!" the Witch calls out to the people of the fortress. "Come gather in the main hall, for we have news!"

Looking to Seraph and Torod, Asta extends pale hands, her fingernails manicured a bright red. Birds spiral down from the roofs of the fortress and out of the sky, spiralling above and around her while they sing, loud enough to rival any salute by trumpets...

Sorry for all the delays. Making egregious use of Obscuring Mist and Feral Speech Hex for all the special effects. Let's boogie! ;)

"Milady..." Seraph takes Asta's right hand lightly by the fingers, kissing the top her hand in a clear indication of her servitude and loyalty to her Witch, and moves as bidden by her. "My Witch Queen..." She stood in full battle gear, showing that she was her witches protector, even on this momentous day.

Before we do that, we should work out at least a skeleton of what our government will look like. This is where Torod will do his best (and fail) to keep Asta from becoming 'the Queen'. She is the best choice after all. Or at the very least put limits or checks on her authority as 'queen'. He doesn't look to become 'king' himself and actually thinks that Asta would make a good 'queen' but for two things: he sees her as overly ambitious and his fear that she will be cold and callous toward her servants.

Also, is Jhod here to officiate the coronation?

Sunset has risen early this morning. Not only to tackle all the things that need to be done on a 'Homestead' but to do all the things that have been neglected during the previous adventuring.

By mid morning Sunset brings on the washing that's been drying since the previous day and set about getting herself and Imiria dressed in their 'Best' for the coming events of the day.

As the birds begin to gather and the towns folk move to see what the fuss is about Sunset and Imiria are also wandering casually into the center of town.

Sunset's hat is clean and set at a comfortable angle. A ribbon added to the 'band'. Her vest, shirt and pants are clean, her boots shine. The leather belt and its small weapon ride easily upon a hip.

She nods and smiles to those she meets along the way. As the crowd gathers and Asta makes her appearance Sunset and Imiria are just two more faces in the crowd.

In the small council chamber of the newly remodeled castle that uses to be the Stag Fort, Jhod coughs loud enough direct everyone’s attention back to the matter at hand. Having just read the new charter, the words still fresh in your ears.

Quote:

Be it so known that the bearers of this charter, having delivered the

northern reaches of the Greenbelt from the scourge of banditry,
having provided detailed maps of the lay of the land, and having
done no small amount of work in the exploration of said land and the
culling of hostile monsters and indigenous hazards, are hereby granted
the right to rule. The nature and laws of rule are theirs to define, and
the wellbeing of this new nation is theirs to protect. In accordance for
providing a stable nation to the south of central Rostland, let there
be a generous stipend of funds, support, and advice provided to this
fledgling nation as a token of Restov and Brevoy’s goodwill, such
that future relations between kingdoms might be mutually beneficial.
So witnessed under the watchful eye of the Lordship of Restov and
by the authority granted by Lord Noleski Surtova, current Regent of
the Dragonscale Throne.

Jhod continues ”The new charter from Brevoy gives you the authority to establish your own kingdom and the materials and colonist to do so. Your first task should be to choose your offices. I have no doubt that you’ve chosen Asta Blackheart as the Ruler, but what of you others?”

”The lands around the StagFort have been claimed. The first district of the capital GreenHart has been laid out, and the StagFort is under renovation to be GreenHart Castle.” You hear hammering in the background as it takes time to build a castle, but it is serviceable for now.

”Of the building supplies sent a little over half have been allocated to the establishment of GreenHart and it’s Castle, but you need to decide what additional projects to approve.”

”Currently the people are living out of tents and wagons there is need for housing.”

”Also, the same people are eating into our supplies, we need to establish farms or fisheries.”

”In addition there are several request for business such as a tavern, merchant store, or smity. I suggest an up or down vote on the options, unless you have more suggestions.”

Seraph's votes for Kingdom building:

1 A - Housing (Arshea wouldn't approve of leaving people in the muck, so natural neither does seraph. ;3)
2 C - Claim a nearby Plains Hex and Build Farm on it
3 C - Smithy

Preferred Position's:

General Cha +5
or
Councilor Cha +5

Councilor: uses Charisma or Wisdom to Loyalty
General: Charisma or Strength to Stability

Reason Being Asta's knight makes both roles fitting for Seraph, as a General she can ensure the stability of those in command of the troops. Thus securing the nations strength and hopefully avoid a military coup.

However,

As Councilor and a representative of the small military arm of Arshea, she can ensure the citizenry's concerns are heard. She can also relay the decisions of the cities leaders in way's common folk will understand. Which should increase the loyalty of the people, since they will know they have a voice in the inner courts. Especially one that is at the right hand of the Queen herself.

Admittedly, Svetlana would make a good Councilor as well. So in all honesty Seraph will trust Asta's decision on which position she would like her to fulfill. Being her loyal subordinate and because of their pact she must do what she can to ensure Asta's continued success.

GM Glyn:

What are your thoughts on the use of the Leadership feat? Is it allowed? Not allowed... Etc. :) Thanks!

Hearing about the woman who had been killed leaves Seraph feeling uneasy. Something like this wasn't uncommon in semi-lawless frontiers, but it shouldn't be ignored either. "Lady Asta, shall I go and investigate this matter?"

Ruler roll: 1d20 + 0 ⇒ (12) + 0 = 12. Hmmm. I need to invest in a Cha.-boosting item.... >_<

My votes:
1a: I don't want to leave my loyal subjects in the muck, either.
2c: Give the people food. Getting settlers here just to let them starve makes no sense at all. (This isn't Geb. :p)
3c: A smithy is very important. We need one to make all the tools we need when the current stock runs out -- and more people will need more tools, not less.

Suggestion: Construction of watchtowers and fortifications. Those ruddy Trolls are still out there.
Construction of warehouses to stockpile food to get everyone safely through the winter.

After the votes have been tallied, Asta hears the suggestions of the others for people to fill the various positions still vacant on the council, and steeples her fingers in thought.

"My knight," she finally says to Seraph, "our kingdom is a new one and there are enemies nearby. That green-haired Fey is lurking in the distance. The Trolls weigh on my peace of mind. Our neighbours know us not and might find us interesting prey. We need a strong hand at the helm of our armed forces. I would ask you to take up the mantle of General, and would suggest that Kesten Garess would therefore assume the role of Warden. May we all be agreed on this?"

Asta nods to Torod's suggestion of Jhod as High Priest. "A good choice, Marshal Torod, and I heartily second the appointment."

The Witch glances at Jhod himself. "However, this may require you to transfer your offices from the old temple we rediscovered to Greenheart. It seems to me that a High Priest must operate from a temple. How long do you think it would take for the faithful of Erastil to construct such an edifice to house you and your future staff, lord High Priest?"

After this, Asta considers the other appointments. "Placing Oleg as Royal Treasurer sounds like a good idea, provided he is willing to transfer from the Tradefort to Greenheart. And, as he would be working here all the time, it seems cruel to leave Svetlana behind. Might we appoint her as Councilor, at least pro tem?

Still, that would require her to work closely with Kressel in her new office as Royal Enforcer. Possibly not the most ideal fit, but we can hope they can learn to overcome the hurt of the past in the name of the future... Or else we will make other appointments later. Speaking of Kressel: I would like to ask that she be brought before us after we have cleared our other business. There is a matter which I must conclude with her now."

The Witch leans back in her seat and regards the rest of the council over her steepled fingers. "There are still offices we need to fill. A Grand Diplomat. A Magister. A Spymaster. The latter two, I can temporarily fill, but I would like to fill these positions as soon as possible. The young Witch Imiria might eventually make a suitable Magister, but she still needs more training. Perhaps among the various clergy I have invited, or else the colonists available to us, we might find some people capable of taking up these jobs."

* * * * * * *

After the appointments, when Jhod announces the murder of the young woman, Saki:

"This is a foul thing to happen, so early into our reign. The people must know we are not just their rulers, but also their guardians. If we have no further council business for the day, I would suggest we take some guards and move out as a body. The distance is not insurmountable and we would each bring useful talents to the task."

* * * * * * *

After the council has either agreed to move out to the site of the murder in force or not, Asta asks that Kressel be brought to the council chamber with all due speed. As soon as the former bandit appears, Asta addresses her:

"Kressel. We did not originally meet as friends, but a friend you have become, and a true ally. In recognition of the way you have turned your life around, as Ruler of Greenheart, I hereby formally grant you pardon for all crimes committed. Let it be written down and entered into the archives, so there may be no doubt."

Asta bows her head to Kressel and flashes her a brief smile. "Grandiose, I know, but some pomp and ceremony is required when ruling nations. People expect it. On to other matters; given that you are now a free woman, you might be interested in a job offer. How would you like to be Royal Enforcer?"

After Torod leads the group to the site of the shepherd boy's death and the butchery of his flock, Asta does two things.

First, she gently frees the lamb and carries it to the others, addressing it in the beast's tongue:

Feral Speech Hex:
"You are safe for now, little one. Did you see what did this and where it went?"

Second, once the lamb has been secured and the shepherd boy's body bundled up to be returned to his family, Asta strides out into the middle of the gore-stained meadow, puts her hands on her hips and raises her head to the sky. The Witch draws a deep breath, then releases a series of harsh screeches and squawks at the vultures:

Having handed over the boys body to his grieving parents, she had held herself together far better then many would expect. Her collar clicked as the severed chain seemed to writhe on it's own. Seraph's face was determined as she acknowledged Asta's will. "As you command."

Back in Greenhart she aids in making declarations on Asta's behalf if necessary. As the General she was determined to ensure the people were assured of their ability to defend them.

After which she leads the others to the supposed Inn where this Kundal had possibly holed up. She doesn't draw her blade but her muscles were all taut at the thought of combat ahead. The Tiefling wore her anger on her face, though she was focused solely in protecting Asta and bringing this threat to an end. By Arshea and Asta, no more beauty shall be destroyed. No more lives cut short by violence and loved ones mourning. Even if it means my body is ravaged, I will stop this.

With 'serous' stuff being looked into after the new town is declared Sunset is again in her 'regular' clothes and outfit astride her more favored mount the large bird (Axebeak) whom she quietly calls 'Fluffy'.

Watching those more attuned to the wilds Sunset does little more than watch, keep guard and chew absently on the stub of her last cigar.

"Yup... gon'a have t' send fer Jane. Or else gon'a have t' get me a bigger gun...." She muses more to herself than others.

Seraph finds what passes for an Inn in the tent city of settlers and hopeful immigrants to your fair kingdom. The keeper looks embarrassed as the General of Stagland ask for the room key, she stammers "Sorry you ladyship, but I don't have any proper walls I'm hopeful my request to have a proper Inn built is approved soon. The man you are asking about did rent a tent for a few weeks, but he left about a week ago. Left nothing behind. Do you think he had something to do with the deaths you're investigating? Some people say it was a wolf skin-walker, others say it was Wargs. We won't feel safe until you show us the hides of the wolfs or kill the sleepwalker."

Suspecting that Kundal is likely responsible for both deaths, what are the leaders going to do to settle the people's fears? Not doing anything would cause unrest (1pt). If it later came out that the rulers knew who was responsible and kept it quit, it may cause more unrest then. Unrest is like hit points to the kingdom. 20pt cause the kingdom to fail. Also, each point of Unrest counts as a penalty to any kingdom rolls. A single point can usually be easily fixed.

Though the woman's stammering made her want to reassure her in some way. She gives the woman a confident smile before taking hold of her hands in an attempt to reassure her and make her focus on Seraph instead of frightful thoughts. Seraphs words were sincere and confident, because it was the truth. "Please calm yourself and take heart my dear woman. My companions have already apprehended a young man who was infected with lycanthrope. He is no longer a threat to any of you and is far, far away from here. On my life I swear this to be truth." She places one hand over her heart to emphasize the truth of her words and oath. both of which she didn't take lightly. "However, we will continue our search. "So, we need not chase down the killer because we already have him locked up in our dungeon," the Witch opens the meeting. "So far, so good. But now we have the problem that we are holding the killer in custody in the very heart of our kingdom, and people are afraid he might get out again. Rightfully so, because come the next full moon, he is going to transform and go berserk again.

We can not simply banish him from the kingdom for the same reason. Executing him out of hand goes against the spirit of the law because he suffers from a disease, rather than murders of his own volition.
If wolfsbane has not had any useful effect in curing this man of his malady, there are magical means to free him of it: the True Form-spell can keep him locked in his own form... but it is a spell outside my range and, I am sorry to admit, foreign to my style of spellcasting. A superior Druid, Sorcerer or Wizard could do it, but not me. And the spell's effects do not last overly long. The most ideal solution would be to have a special item imbued with the spell crafted, and lock it onto the man.

Still, regardless what tactic we use to affect a cure, we have more problems. First of all, how do we deal with this man besides stopping him from killing again and striving to halt the further spread of lycanthropy? Do we conduct a trial for murder, or rather manslaughter? And do we need to hunt for the progenitor lycanthrope? Those born to the condition control their transformation; this man does not, according to the testimonies I have heard. That means someone infected him at some point -- just as someone infected Elaina. If there is some profligate lycan doing the rounds, infecting people for the heck of it or in a bid to build him- or herself a pack, we have a problem."

Asta looks to Mikmek.

Can’t take 20 on Knowledge checks, except for bards special ability. However, your roll was good.

What you know about Kundal:
From what you know and have been told the Lycanthrope was dosed with wolfsbane and may be cured, but you won’t know for sure until the next full moon. He is resting in a cell at the Elk temple. You also gather from the conversions with others, that he likely was infected elsewhere and came her to get away from people. He seemed remorseful that he many have hurt others. You don’t know if he was the one that infected Elaina.

When Mikmek is asked about silver weapons, the kobol shrugs ”Tribe digs silver rocks from dirt, but not good at smiting. Maybe new smith in town can build weapons from silver rocks?”

Do to your actions and quick work, the kingdom suffers no unrest and even gets a temporary boost in loyalty +1 for next month’s rolls!

"We need to know what they want us to know. We need to know what they don't want us to know. We need them not to know that we know what they know -- unless we need them to know that we know what they know. Sometimes, your job will not be merely to gather information, but to spread it at the Council's behest, to maze, confuse and manipulate our enemies. You will have to spread rumours as well as gather them, forever aware that you may be gathering up someone else's falsehoods and winnowing the kernel of truth from the chaff of lies and simple ignorance. You are a clever little sneak already, my Witchling, but you need to hone your talents at stealth and deception to a fine edge. And you cannot go it alone. As Spymistress, I expect you to build up our nation's secret service.

We'll help you everywhere we can, of course, but we cannot do the job for you. This is not an easy assignment before you, but it is the challenge of a lifetime. If you are still willing, we will focus on teaching you a Hex of unsurpassed usefulness for your task: Feral Speech. If you can talk to the animals, you can learn things an army of spies couldn't ferret out. Here in Greenheart, I am building a rapport with the ravens; if they are willing to work with me, I can gather information from clear across the nation. If you can do something similar in the lands which border ours, well... You see the way my thoughts run?

Another thing; crime will come to our fair kingdom. It is inevitable; where there are people living together, some will think to benefit from their fellow people by means of crime and deceit. One of the things I want you to keep an eye out for is criminal activity in Greenheart. What looks like a ring of simple thieves may yet be the first stab an enemy takes at testing our defences. Also, a thief ring could be useful to us as a pool of future agents for the secret service. See? All the loose bits and threads we gather up, then spin them together into our own web.... Spymistress. Do you still feel up to the challenge? Do you think you can handle it?"

Asta, having learned from her failure with the vultures, is doing her best to win the land's ravens over to her with promises of regular meals for information. Croft will be assisting her to the best of his ability.

Asta also takes the time to send letters to Chief Sootscale and the Mite King, advising both that their people should have embassies in Greenheart, and that she would welcome an ambassador from the Mite King if he has any in mind. In addition, she asks the Mite King whether he has heard back from the local Faerie Queen yet, so the Greenheart Council might open up a dialogue with her -- and whether she has said anything about the green-haired troublemaker.

True to form, Seraph enjoys the increasing size of followers for Arshea's cause and spends time strengthening bonds with those individuals showing interest. She thoroughly indoctrinated them in Arshea's teachings, as well as solidifying there allegiance with Asta and inessence Greenhart as well. This would provide a strong following for her empyreal lord and aid in spreading the growth of freedom and liberation from the cruel bonds endured in places such as Brevoy. Arashea's teachings would be a great boon in this newborn society, especially since her pact with Asta coincided so well with the will of her patron.

Once she had a large enough following she slowed her recruitment attempts so that she didn't want to step on her companions toes. Especially Erastil which she knew was Torod's personal belief's.

In her off times she made sure to keep her self readily available to Asta, when she was out and about she kept to a strict pattern. Relaying her movements to Asta before leaving her presence to ensure Asta could find her in a moments notice if needed. Secretly though she was looking for a gift suitable for a newly appointed Witch Queen.

For those curious of her strength, she has no problem showing her skill with the massive blade on her back. Showing everyone that despite the weapons size versus her own, that she could wield it one handed and use it well.

Anything of use she relays to Asta. None of her activites are kept secret from the soon to be Queen.

Abjurant Day; celebrating magic for the good of the community and cooperation sounds good.
Archer's Day; good to strengthen our ties with the faith of Erastil.

Firstbloom; we're a kingdom of farmers right now, after all.
Harvest Feast; for the same reason as Firstbloom, but also an important holiday to Erastil and Pharasma. Can't hurt....
Night of the Pale; who doesn't love Halloween? ;)

Seven Veils; as the public festival of Sivanah, this one is near and dear to Asta's heart. And we're currently in the month of Neth, soooo.... :D

Marshall Roll: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (15) + 3 = 18

Leadership Changes:
Sunset to Magister
Kressle to Spymistress
Kesten to Warden
I figure Torod will lose his fight to keep Imiria out of office until she's more mature. The real question is how firm Sunset is on being Warden. If she stays Warden, then Torod will seek help to convince Kesten to be Grand Diplomat. I like Mikmek, but he's a kobold and not a Greenheart.

Votes:
Claim Another Hex, choose 1
1b: I thought the kobolds owned this hex, but it turns out they don't. I now agree with Sunset. Claiming and developing Fangberry hex will give us something to trade with our allies, the kobolds. This allows us to maintain internal security and be a good neighbor at the same time.

Choose 2 Improvements
2d: Build road to Oleg's in river crossing hex.
2a: Farms to feed our people

Housing, choose 1
3a: Homes for our people

Building Projects, choose 1
4d: Shrine (to Erastil) because Torod cares for the religious well being of the folk.

Yearly Celebrations, choose 1
5b: The anniversary of the coronation/official founding of Greenhart. Torod suggests that it coincides with Seven Veils.

Torod talks big talk about the ladies, but now that one is actually flirting with him, he is tongue tied. "Uh uh uhhhh. Sh sh sure. I'll take a look and let you know if I find anything. I should be" He points indicating he should be going. He walks off one way then realizes he is going the wrong way so turns around and goes off.

Torod uses his time during the month to build and organize his Outriders. He enlists the aid of Kesten Garess. Though he'll lean on Kesten heavily, Torod will also try in his blunt way to get Kesten to take a diplomatic position with the new government. At least until they could find someone more inclined to such things.

The Outriders are to patrol the edges of the Barony. They are the means through which Lady Asta and the Council project there protection and benevolence. Wherever they go, the Outriders are to not only bring the Law of Greenheart, but also to give aid to the people and report back to Torod and the council.

He bothers Oleg to make sure his people has weapons and gear to fight trolls and lycanthropes.
