Okay, once you're leveled up and everyone is back in the palace, what happens next?
Do you want to rest to restore resources, or keep exploring?
Signe Oddvardottir |
Signe is fine with resting or exploring as she doesn't have resources to restore and now with Endurance, a better chance at not being exhausted :)
Am I right in that we've technically explored the entire basement? Without going back and checking the zombie cells, that is. If that's the case, then we'll need to go back upstairs.
GM Wicked |
Yea, from what you can see you've examined the only accessible rooms.
GM Wicked |
Thanks for the feedback everyone. I'm always interested in keeping the game enjoyable for everyone.
Thyrnir still needs to level (I figure once KM is back from her trip), and we still need a decision on to our next actions: stay below and rest, or venture back upstairs?
Þyrnir |
Level up:
- 7 HP(5 HD, 1 Con, 1 Favoured class)
- 3 skill points, 2 background skills
- bonus feat: Power Attack
- extra level 1 spell
- +1 Ref base save
Are we doing automated bonus progression?
GM Wicked |
Yes, ABP is in effect. Resistance +1 at this level :).
GM Wicked |
Under these circumstances, I think it's best for you to go ahead and gain the benefits (BAB, hp, etc.). However, Ragnar's and Thyrnir's spells won't reset until they rest.

(1) Yes, we are doing ABP.
(2) Where are you placing your skill points?(3) You get a class bonus feat as well as a general feat. You have another feat to select.
Þyrnir |
Skills points: Climb, Knowledge religion, Perception
Background skills: Craft sculpture, Handle animal
Did we get an extra feat at some point? HeroLab tells me that I have all the feats I can at this level. Other than the class feats, these are the ones I have:
- Improved Shield Bash
- Power Attack
- Two-Weapon Fighting
- Weapon Finesse
- Weapon Focus (Light shield)
GM Wicked |
We did gain a bonus feat at level one. At level three you gain a general feat from the normal advancement rules, as well as a bonus combat feat from your warpriest class. So you should gain two feats at this level. I'll check hero lab in a little while and let you know.
Edit: Yes, you're short one feat. I assume you chose power attack as your first bonus class feat, so you should have one additional, general feat due to normal advancement rules.
Þyrnir |
Took Shield Focus as the missing feat, bumping my AC to 19.
Ragnar Hedefødt |
As a spear user, I approve. I'll probably pick a shield at some point, too, but for now I'll stick to throwing them.
Also - I enjoy the way GM Wicked is dealing with those encounters! It speeds things up considerably, and really helps with the PbP dungeon problem!
GM Wicked |
Cool! I don't want to deprive you of fun, but some of these encounters are just xp farming.
A question: I've been tracking XP secretly. Would you prefer to have it posted openly on the campaign page?
GM Wicked |
No we're actually on the medium track! Many encounters give XP even if there's no combat (like much of the chase for the girls). The modules are just written to be faster-paced than the usual AP book. The trade-off is that the modules have less of a story running between them. Still, I think I like it!
Ótryggr Grímsson |
Otryggr's HP should be:
Level 1: (15) 12 + 1 (favored class) +2 CON
Level 2: (24) 6 + 1 (favored class) +2 CON
Level 3: (33) 6 + 1 (favored class) +2 CON
So yup! Been running a little low.
Also, awesome job DM with keeping things moving and not letting us get bogged down. Love it.
GM Wicked |
Since jarldom has been stated as a goal for at least one character, I just want to note the AP has rules for rising to that station. Here are the introductory requirements:
-Possess the Leadership feat (this means modifying a house rule against the feat, which is fine)
-Reach 9th Level in barbarian, bard, cavalier, fighter, paladin, ranger, or rogue, as people simply will not accept jarls who aren't warriors and who possess unusual powers.
-Be at least half human
-Claim land and build a hall at least 50 feet long and 30 feet wide at the cost of a minimum of 50,000 hs
-Own and crew at least one longship at the cost of 10,000 hs for the ship and full share of any punder for the crew. A helmsman can be hired (if the PC doesn't possess the requisite skills) for an additional half share of any plunder taken. A jarl that doesn't take his crew out on some profitable venture at least once a year risks losing their loyalty.

Must be nice. I'm on the 5th level of winter, wondering if it'll ever end. Who knew Wicked was such a good GM that his world literally comes alive. I'm so done.
GM Wicked |
Whatever horrors my most diabolical scheming might have produced are no match for Canadian winter. Yeesh!
GM Wicked |
Hey guys, it's been a busy few days, but I plan to post an update when I'm at my computer this afternoon! We'll be exploring the next wing!
SubiculumHammer |
just to reiterate,I like how you've been conducting this dungeon. I know its a lot of writing for you GM Wicked, but the PbP time we are saving by skipping over fairly uninteresting fights (e.g. vs zombies) is phenomenal...a month or more at least..
..just don't skip over any fights that might be interesting :)
GM Wicked |
Thanks, I hope it will be worthwhile to advance this adventure faster. In fact, thanks to all these zombies, we're actually approaching level 4 pretty quickly! Maybe it's time to start thinking about your next level...
GM Wicked |
Somehow we find ourselves facing off against yet another crimson throne!
GM Wicked |
It was in the entryway to this room, surrounded by shattered ice.
GM Wicked |
Ramundr: just frost. We ignore static enhancement bonuses due to ABP. The furyborn Greatsword is different because its bonuses come from an enchantment.
Þyrnir |
Apologies for being slow. Things have been quite busy at work and with a new personal-but-also-work project, and I'm still trying to recover my sleep rhythm from my US trip.
GM Wicked |
To all of my games: I've come down with something that might or might not be serious. I don't know yet, but I might even need surgery. I'll try to keep you all updated as I learn more. Please forgive any unannounced absences from the game in the coming days.
Þyrnir |
Uh-oh, get well soon! Fingers crossed it's not serious.
