I am back from a recent foreign aid deployment, the repacking and trip home of which was quite an ordeal, and making a few adjustments and tweaks to the campaign to suit a few of the more 'unique' PCs that I am planning on selecting.

I have not jumped ship on this campaign, despite not posting for a few days. There seems to be a dedicated bunch of posters for this campaign and I want this campaign to be played, so you will probably have to get my account banned for me for that to NOT be the case!

Just out of curiosity, which campaigns were you guys talking about? I copied quite a few rules from a gestalt Kingmaker campaign that, sadly, doesn't seem to have progressed beyond the recruitment, but other than that, all I can think of is that Fallen Sons and Daughters of Heaven recruitment that I saw up when I first logged on to these messageboards which was, partially at least, the reason that I felt this game could survive in PBP, due to the massive amount of interest homebrews get on Paizo as opposed to places like Obsidian Portal.

Now, let me attempt to answer everyone's questions.

The campaign begins in mid-Autumn as far as the seasons go. This season has been one of the coldest in recent memory, so it is, for all intents and purposes of the weather, almost like Winter.

Pathfinder Zoey, you may take the Spire Defender archetype, reflavored of course. It is expected that Oracles who receive Cleric powers use their charisma modifier instead of their wisdom modifier.

Wondering_Monster, that's a good question. My answer is 'enough time to get from point A across the sea to point B across the sea' in some portions of the storyline. If you want to do some coastal raiding during downtime, that's entirely up to you.

Moon Papa, the Tetori archetype is compatible with the Unchained Monk, though as with most of the Asian classes and archetypes, it will need a reflavoring.

Hotaru of the Society, Seidr, or Norse magic, often used runes, staves, bells, and hollowed out animal horns as magical implements. A horn carved with runes and golden attachments would be VERY appropriate for conjurations.

Escheton, pre-game crafting will be allowed.

Karthan Stonemason, the best languages to take, apart from Northlander Common, is Ulanat Common, Jotun (Giant), Sylvan, and Aesiran (Celestial, also the language of Runes). To a lesser extent, Dwarven, Elven, Draconic and the Dark Tongue (A combination of Abyssal and Infernal mostly spoken by those who follow Loki's evil children or the darkest of the Vanir) are all useful tongues to know. The four elemental tongues will have a VERY small cameo in the game, so if you want, those could be marginally useful as well.

DekoTheBarbarian, Mythic Heroes supplements are allowed.

Rednal, who here knows me? As far as I can tell, no one does. Unless someone knows a man by the name of Ejrik, I do not believe that is the case. Still, if people want my phone number or possibly one of my social media accounts so that they can keep in contact with me, then I have no problem doing so. Also, out of curiosity, did you find a GM to run you through a solo campaign or no? If not, I had a somewhat odd idea for one the other day while watching an old Anime clip that I had long since forgotten about.

Yay! Welcome back!

@Pregame crafting... That almost makes me want to take 4 paladin levels just so I can craft a blinkback belt... Starting with half of normal WBL (normal for 4th is 6K we start with a bit over 3K) is kinda rough for Tormod. It would make my weapon selection much easier going forward.

Would you allow feat retraining for ability score pre-reqs? It's mild shenanigans, but I'm considering an animal companion with an int of 3 (to qualify for non-standard animal feats); but the companion wouldn't get this until level 4, and would be unable to learn said feats for another level unless it were able to retrain an earlier feat.

Thunderbeard, sure, why not?

Cool! (I don't have much interest in the 3pp stuff, but I figured I could make my mount a bit psionic, just for fun)

Welcome back! Thanks for the answer, I think that book will be a staple of mine in any Mythic campaign I get into as long as the GM agrees.

Also: does anyone else want to be Teamwork Feat buddies? I'm going skald/cavalier, which means I should be able to grant all allies Amplified Raging Song (+6 to Str/Con), but tactical shenanigans could be on the horizon.

I can see my character getting a Teamwork feat or two, since he's military and all. Not sure what feats to get, though, so if you have an idea I'd love to hear it.

RPG Superstar 2012 Top 32

@GM- I know you had a bunch of posts waiting when you got back but did you have any feedback at all for me on Fell? Is the concept of someone everyone (or, at least, nearly everyone) thinks is human but who didn't die with the rest of his tribe and hasn't aged in 60 years and thinks the Norns have forgotten/forsaken him an alright one to run with?

Interested!

@Deko: Might make sense to see who's on the team and waiting until level-up, actually, because those things require two people.

Meanwhile, this is thunderbeard, checking in with an alias. Still need story/background.

Ooooh. How I didn't think of Horn is beyond me. Thanks much. :)

As for teamwork feats, I'm always open to taking a few, as long as the end result is either decidedly good for the initial taker, or mutually useful. :)

@Nate, i don't know about the GM, but I like the concept. Quite a bit different than the usual Aasimar attitude.

@Thunderbeard, Aurgelmir won't start with any feats, but he'll consider anything you could see teaching a proto-troll. My 5th level feat is taken, but after that I'm very open with my build.

Link to Aurgelmir

yay, i love being proven wrong, and i got some of my answers answered.

btw, I recommend any complicated questions you PM him, i had a few and PMed him and got answers. I think it's better than clogging recruitment anyway.

Hm, maybe I was thinking on the other one. XD I think I have a good selection of applicants for my solo game, though I'm certainly open to more.

Would it be possible to work out using unchained monk but still taking the tetori archetype? May forfeiting some ki powers or something?

Came across THIS. And I figured someone might be interested in a Trve Metal Viking poster.

@GMF: I am wanting to use this religion-trait. Originally for Sarenrae, the Goddess of Dawn. Can I use it in conjunction with a Norse God instead? And if so, which would fit best according to you?

Just saying I'm still here.

Oh and GM, can you let me know what you think of what I sent you via PM? Thanks!

Sorry but I'll be withdrawing, good luck to all those that stay and make it into the game.

Still around, busy, busy, crazy busy last several days.

Did I mention busy? lol

My submission will be a Lore Shaman/Druid, with a raven familiar with the Sage archetype and a wolf companion.

Welcome back! I, too, am still around though I'm currently reworking my character's backstory to be a bit less patchwork. It didn't read as I was hoping it would, so hopefully that is something that can be fixed. I don't suppose you saw my question for you? If not, check out the quote below. If so, disregard entirely. Thanks!

Quote:
So, given your take on some of the rules, how do you feel about using natural weapons with Spell Combat and Spellstrike without taking the Natural Spell Combat arcana for a magus? Possible, impossible? Love to hear your thoughts on this!

How did I nearly miss this!?

I'd like to submit a dwarf hunter/fighter with a wolf. Primal Companion/Archer archetypes.

Looks like I'll need to write that backstory after all! Welcome back to the GM! Alas! This is not a dead thread!

Will his name be Odin Wotanson of the tribe of Wotaning Odins? Does he have a tall blonde son unable to grasp sarcasm? Or is that a little on the nose? :D

Lol, aye, I know its very much akin to Odin, which is why he will be a follower of the All-Father.

But its a fun concept that really fits this game and theme. I was thinking of some sort of warrior originally, but I like this character much better.

Question about the feats... Is it essentially 1 feat per level, or you gain them on even levels rather than odd levels?

RPG Superstar 2012 Top 32

Every level, warhawk

Woo! Welcome back! I'm still around and quite interested in the campaign still! Apps all done as far as I can tell.

Of course, I'm sure I've forgotten or overlooked something... >.>;;

woo updated for con casting.

Nate Lange, I thought that I sent a private message to you? But yes, I do like Fell as a character. And, considering a few plot points in the game, he could get VERY interesting.

Bane88, yes, PM my account.

Escheton, Blade of Mercy can be reflavored for a different deity. As for who it would fit, Eir, the Valkyrie/Minor Goddess of Healing would be a good fit. She's pretty much like the Sarenrae of the Northlands because she is considered the most merciful of all the divine beings in Norse mythology. She is not widely worshipped and, as a Valkyrie, her worship is roughly equivalent to worshiping one of the Empyreal Lords.

Adam Warnock, resend it, if you will. I don't know if I got it.

Monkeygod, any idea on what mythic upgrades you might want your companions to get?

Thorgrim Ulfsson, those two do interact in a way that allows you to accomplish such a feat.

Warhawk7, one feat every level is what I was aiming for. I rather liked the idea once I saw it on these messageboards.

Brynja Østergård, is that DeviantArt page yours? If so, kudos! I find the picture of your character an interesting choice, considering what the inspiration was.

GM, do you have access to the Akashic Mysteries content from Dreamscarred Press, and if so, would you consider allowing it? It would obviously need to be heavily reflavoured, but it could work well as a more primal form of magic.

RPG Superstar 2012 Top 32

No, I just double-checked, no PM... thanks for the feedback now though- I just wanted to make sure that the concept wasn't completely contradictory to your cosmology (or at odds with anything you had planned).

This morning is busy but I'll try to work on fleshing him out this afternoon.

PM sent!

El Ronza, I do not have the books. I am considering allowing it, though I would need an idea on what it does. I read it is similar to Magic of the Incarnum from 3.X. Is this true?

Continued attempts to wrangle my concept, and realizing that I can't really put the puzzle pieces of who they are together cohesively, while giving an adequate read (despite really liking the character), combined with the facts that he doesn't seem to fit very well in my idea of a norse setting (a huge problem), the huge amounts of interest, and my friend backing out... I've decided I should also back out.

Thank you for the input, and good luck, all. :) I firmly believe you'll enjoy it more than I would have.

Goodness no! Someday maybe if I give up my cartoony ways. I usually prefer to do my own character art, but Valkyrie Profile was definitely some inspiration so I went with that fan art of Alicia.

If looking at art interests you at all, I have my own art up here:

looks like some nice artwork. don't know why you wouldn't make your own.

GM, let's say I wanted to use my masterwork item on a composite longbow, but I wanted to make it adaptive (+1000gp), can I do that and just charge the 1000gp for making it an adaptive composite longbow since the bow needs to be masterwork first?

Adaptive:

Price +1,000 gp; Aura faint transmutation; CL 1st; Weight —

This ability can only be placed on composite bows. An adaptive bow responds to the strength of its wielder, acting as a bow with a strength rating equal to its wielder's Strength bonus. The wielder can fire it with a lesser Strength bonus (and cause less damage) if desired.

Dotting for interest in case there are any positions still open. Sounds interesting as hell.

The bow needs to be +1 before you can add adaptive. 3k total. Probably better to hold off on that investment and just get a str rating X comp bow. Won't fully utilize temporary buffs. But it works alright enough.
It's what I'm doing for one.

Alternatively, if the buffs are substantial, you could 2 bows. 1 for your base-stats. And one for hulk-mode.

We aren't starting as Mythic, correct? Also, what sort of upgrades are available? The mythic templates? Any templates? Something else?

Isn't a masterwork weapon considered to have a +1 enhancement bonus?

Doing something a bit different for my backstory this time. I think it's more entertaining if the character shares it himself.

Also I switched aliases from Karthan to Ragnvald. Figured his name was most certainly closer to the feel here.

Backstory:

So you want to know my story boy? Why a man my age carries a raven on hi shoulder as if the entirety of Midgard rests on his back?

Pass me another mug of mead and I will tell you my tale. No doubt at the end of it you will either think me mad, brave, or a disgusting liar.

Know only that I, Ragnvald Hrolfson, speak only in truth and should I lie about my story let this bird tear out my eyes.

I was a respected sage and keeper of lore for my king. My life before this point was unimportant. My childhood was unremarkable and my parents were stern folk of common breed but intelligent enough to seek a future for their boy. But, I will not taint their memory with this tale any longer.

No, what is important is that while others of my family and kingdom were interested in matters of commerce and war I delved deeply into the secrets that lie just beyond our civilized grasp. Stories of the Aesir, of where men go when they die, of Jotunheim, of Hel, of the Svartgald and their dark realm.

As sages, we had always concluded that the realms of such mythical beings were beyond our reach save for powerful magic or the influence of such creatures as the Valkyries.

Hm?

Yes I have seen them.

No, no you would not. Trust me in this.

However I believed differently. The stories and legends always referred to rivers and roots that reached all the way from the halls of Asgard to the darkest depths of Niflheim. Most priests and scholars deemed these places as mere metaphors, mortal explanations for things unexplainable.

Yet, the consistency with which they are written led me to believe that such places actually existed and that physical travel between these places was not only possible, but likely profitable for mortal men. Imagine sailing upriver to speak wiht an honored ancestor? To trade ore and gold directly to the dwarves for their finest weapons and armor?

Enticing is it not?

My research was going nowhere until I discovered a cross reference between an ancient city of elves and one of the rivers mentioned in the tales. The city was real. So why would the river be any different?

I chose a successor for my position and excused myself from service to my lord. Needless to say he was not happy to lose one of the few people capable of literacy in his court. But I was a free man capable of getting by on my own. Plus, should I ahve succeeded it would have been to the benefit of all.

I had little money to hire strong arms and backs to help me on the journey, but I was smart, and a competent fighter from my youth.

Finding the lost city took four years. I traveled to lands difficult to imagine, full of dark skinned men and creatures that defy description, of spiders as large as horses and cats so large as to have leapt out of nightmare.

But found it I did. My local guide fled as soon as the city was in sight. I was told that nothing dwelled their but ghosts and devils. I had no interest in them. After all a river could be boated from nearly all parts of its length.

Afterwards I spent a week of sleepless nights fending off the mindless undead and the shadowy evils that plagued me while I built a sufficient raft to carry me down its length.

Had I paid any attention to those wretched souls that attacked me nightly I might have turned from my quest then and lived a much simpler life. But my hubris and thirst to know what lay beyond our realm overtook me and thus I sailed down that river to new worlds.

At once I understood that this river did not follow the normal laws that govern such places. It did not head for any larger body of water nor towards the sea. In fact it seemed to head further inland.

It was nightfall when I fell into the pit.

I knew I should have rowed to shore before the sun had set. But, the river was calm and I had not slept for days. The desire to press onward drove me into a recklessness that would shame even the most addled drunk.

But down I fell, I did not even hear the rushing water as the raft, and then the rest of me fell down into that dark place.

I do not know for certain but even today I wonder if I had died in the fall, or if some enchantment, some spell over the place saved me from the impact.

What I do know is when I broke the surface once more the raft was broken and I was in a misty place. I know that I was not in a cave for the place was illuminated to a constant state of twilight in a fog so thick that I was unable to see far past my own outstretched arm.

I swam to this places rocky shore and I assessed myself. My belongings were almost all completely gone. My raft was destroyed and the sword I brought for self defense was lost. I had no choice but to go inland and hope to return to the river once I had regained my energy and the ability to travel.

The first strange sight I passed were three rows of over a dozen anvils each one ready with hammer and tongs anticipating the hard work of providing for an army.

Beyond those were three rows of over a dozen forges their fires dulled to mere embers. Even as I watched I could feel that they were ready to roar to life and gather enough heat to temper the hardest steel.

Despite the warning signs I pressed onward confident that these things were a sign that a significant civilization was near. Perhaps I fell into the dark realm of the dwarves? Did I journey to the vaunted world of the elves?

I traveled perhaps a mile before I saw the first sign of human life. I saw shapes in the fog standing side by side barely and arms width apart. I rejoiced and called to them running towards them in the hopes of salvation.

They did not stir. Nor utter a single noise.

I slowed as I approached. Were these shadows human? Or were they statues? The rank, smell of death began to permeate the air and I at once began to regret not picking up one of those hammers.

When they became clear to my vision I finally realized where I was and the doom that awaited all men and gods. They were dead men. Rotting but mobile. Lined up row by row as one massive army. In each ones right hand was a bent and broken sword. In their left a shattered shield. The purpose of the forges and anvils was obvious. This was an army destined to repair their boken arms and sail onward towards conquest.

Though they stood their staring ahead they paid me no heed. This was not an army who cared for pitiful sages who fell down pits. This one had eyes upon the gods themselves.

Overtaken by horror and despair I fled into the fog chased by shadows, demons, or my own imagination I do not know what.

I ran until I was out of breath and slumped down upon a tree made of dead men's bones.

Boy, I cannot tell you how long I stayed in that terrible place. Nor can I tell you everything that happened for my memory is clouded even now recoiling in horror everytime I try to focus my will upon a particular moment.

I only know that I had no hope of escape until a carrion bird named Hate guided me out whilst I rode a panicking horse made of cowardice. I fled for my life, for my very soul. And I brought it with me.

The horse faded into nothing as soon as I returned to midgard for ideas can only exist in the minds of men. But Hattr stayed. He claims to be a brother to Huginn and Munnin. Though that changes daily it seems. Yesterday he claimed to be their father, and the day before their bastard son. Whatever the case this creature is not done giding me. It takes me from place to place, and in each one I find a new horror. But this is not that dark place. This is Midgard. And Hattr does not flee while that horror remains. So I slay one. Then another. And though I will myself not to follow, to return to my books and my comfortable scholarly life. I follow because what chases me is far worse and the bird is the only thing that drives it away.

So why do I bear the weight of the world?

Because the widow whose longhouse we share is a blood devouring beast from that dark realm. When I stand I will draw my sword and do battle with her. You may join or flee. It matters not. For it is likely you will die regardless.

There you have it. Can you tell Ragnvald is a happy character full of happiness and sunshine yet?

Sheet is more or less done. I just need to get Hattr statted out.

no, it simply allows it to be enhanced with a +1 bonus in the first place.

No, it's a masterwork weapon. It just happens to give a +1 enhancement to attacks as a result. You need to actually upgrade the mwk weapon into a magic one by giving it a +1 enhancement bonus before applying special abilities.

Seems like there is a group of 5 to 7 players all made up, will lurk in case someone else drops out and create a character this sounds like a good setting and glad it did not die.

well the idea of a recruitment is to make a character for the GM to choose from, frankly the more that are made the better the end characters will be. so i encourage you to follow through with any ideas you may have.

Guess I'll just get the a composite (2 str) bow for now.
