"Indeed," Kelgeah adds, rubbing her fingers, "that door most certainly has a nasty temper, and while I do enjoy a little pain on occasion, I'm not too keen on burning my fingers off. I can't think of any spells in Calistria's repetoire that would be of much use, and if Delkaneth is correct, mundane means won't keep the door's wrath at bay. there must be some trick or key that protects one from injury or some secret that causes it to exempt visitors from it's defenses. any ideas anyone?"

"...It's called a healing spell. Cast on the person to unlock the door after they've unlocked it," Talon tells them, rolling his eyes a little. "Seriously, that seems like the simplest solution here. It'll only take a few touches at most to unlock it." He looks at Kelgeah with a raised eyebrow. "I don't mind a little pain myself, but I'd prefer if you used your blessings to soothe what hurts me, if you get my drift."

Ah, the 'fire ready aim' approach. Its a shame, I expected better.....

With a silent nod, Delkaneth defers to the group. His 'seniority' in the group is better than Shadow's by mere hours, and while he feels preety good about how he has shown his worth so far he certainly isn't interested in rocking the boat.

Kelgeah fights back a grin for Talon's verbal fencing, her eyes distracted by what can only be described as a series of unspeakable mental imagery.

"So...dare I ask where you are spending the night, fearless leader? Or shall we wait until the job's truly well and done before we play?"

Shadow has been quiet and observing, still getting use to her new team and is learning how to fit in.

Shadow bows from the neck, "Thank you for the share." Then looks to the Masterwork Thieve's tools and then to Del, "Del, did you want those fine in quality thieve's tools?" Then she looks at the group, "I am going to spend my time researching to see if I can find out more about this door. In addition, I need to catch up on the knowledge most of the Pathfinder's have regarding artifacts. Do you all have any suggestions on where I should start?"

At Shadow's question, Delkaneth looks up from examining the unusual climbing harnesses the Tower Girls were using. "They are well made, but I already have a set that have definitely helped me get through some challenging spots. I guess they're yours if you want them."

Shadow bows from the neck out of respect, "Thank you, they will come in handy in assisting you, the team, and the Pathfinder Society." She looks at Del, "What is the housing situation around here. Are there barracks or apartments on grounds or do we have to look for housing in town?"

"If none of your allies have room, I'm certain we can manage to find room for you for now." Lady Heidmarch smiles.

Natalya does not wish to return, but she will draw a map for you of where she found the hidden room where the shard was.

After everyone has completed their preparations, the group once more finds themselves facing that annoying door and the equally annoying secure room.

Talon for his part will take a few minutes to search for Natalya's hidden room, using the map drawn. Everyone might notice his brand new two bladed sword he's got with him, shiny and untested.

Taking 20 on Perception for a total of 24.

Using the map, you have an additional bonus enough to locate it.

Within this small secret room is the skeleton Natalya described. There is no indication of how the body came to be here, or even how it died, but some of the equipment and items Natalya missed as she fell under the effects of the shard might give a clue to it's identity. A search of the bones reveals a masterwork chain shirt, a masterwork rapier, a pendant of the souk, 50 feet of silk rope, and a leather pouch containing 250 gp.

Crafted from gold beaten into the image of a lanner falcon and suspended upon a gold chain, it’s the traditional badge of office for the Prince or Princess of the Market in Magnimar’s Bazaar of Sails— although they are often given as rewards to those who are particularly helpful or well-liked by the Prince or Princess.

The wearer of a pendant of the souk gains a +5 competence bonus on Appraise checks. By holding the pendant to her brow, the wearer can gain the effects of an identify spell once per day. Finally, the pendant grows warm in the presence of illusions, granting a +2 insight bonus on saving throws made to disbelieve existing illusion effects.

Looking at the skeleton, Delkaneth has the feeing these clues should be telling him something but the memory fails to solidify in his mind. He absently pats the pouch containing the Shard. Must not be that historical I guess?

Seeing the quality of the gear before them, he gestures a quick encantation (Detect Magic) and confirms for the group that the pedant is magical in nature, although its exact purpose also eludes him.

As soon as their search of the chamber is complete he follows the rest back to the door. Slightly paranoid, he quickly looks for signs of someone else being here since last they left.

Talon gathers up the gear and stows it away for now, wondering who this guy was - or why they died, for that matter. "Let's get to the door now. We can figure out this pendant later, and who it belonged to."

He heads over, looking at the letters on the door. "Ready a spell from that new wand, would you? I'll need your healing touch," HE tells Kelgeah, before reaching out to rearrange the words - LISTEN to SILTEN to SILNET to SILENT. Then THE EYES to THEYEES to THEY SEE. Five touches, and he bites back the pain in his hand from touching them.

The doors swing silently open, leading into a dusty, cobweb-choked corridor running northward. [b 24] No footprints mar the dust on the floors, and the Thassilonian murals covering the walls here are as vibrant as if they were painted yesterday.

At the end of the corridor is a stairwell leading further down. These stairs lead down to a corridor that makes a sharp turn northward to [b 25] a balcony whose still elegant, curving stairs lead down to what was once an equally elegant bath, now nothing more than a green, scum-covered pool extending across the far end of this room. Passages exit to the sides and the floor and walls are streaked with dark smears of guano in thick layers. The walls here are also covered in murals.

There is a window to the north, masked via a permanent illusory wall (CL 15th)

The bats seem to be entering from a tiny crack in the eastern wall, impassable for creatures larger than Tiny. The balcony to the south is 20 feet above the lower floor, while the ceiling rises to a dome 40 feet
overhead. Everburning torches still cast flickering shadows throughout the area.

"What the hells are those!" Clearly taken in by the ancient grandeur of the Thassilonian art and architecture, Delkaneth is slow to react as the things rise from the slimy waters.

Talon was quite suprised by the amoebas surging out at him, but manages to keep them from grabbing a hold of him - he can feel acid sizzling at his shins, hissing sharply before striking out at both with his new weapon.

Kelgeah takes a moment to absorb the lost grandeur of the room, imagining what the large pool must have been like in it's prime. The sudden emergence of acidic amoebas causes her to recoil, however, and she hops backward a few steps to stay out of reach while she draws her bow and fires. She sneers at the amorphous blobs when her arrow seems to find an open gap in the form of her target, passing clean through with no effect.

Stepping up to the pool, Delkaneth positions himself next to Talon to strike at the amoeba Talon just hit. The tight quarters and the surprising appearance of the creatures, however, makes his rhythm totally off as the swing goes wild.

Shadow finds out the group is moving out already and finds herself still a little unprepared. She rushes off to the group with basically the same gear as before but with a new set of masterwork thieves tools. When she reaches the party, she looks a little frustrated and frazzled ...

Smirking at Talon's new burns, she pulls her new wand out of her blouse and taps his sizzling skin. New muscle, skin and hair grows in as fast as the old flesh burned.

"There we are; good as new. Rather convenient having so many gifts in such a little stick."

Talon looks from the eastern passage to the long corridor, thinking for a moment before coming up with a decision. "Let's head down this way - Princess, Del, you can both take point. Keep an eye out for traps. There's always traps," He sighs, shaking his head.

Talon will ask the party to head down the long corridor - course, if someone else makes the Perception check, his decision may change.

This room is littered with desiccated fish carcasses and a few larger bodies, and the ground is a thick, sticky sheet of webbing. The narrow tunnel enters the chamber from the north, while to the southwest, the room opens into a forty-foot diameter silo-like chamber from which the sound of sloshing water can be heard.

You also see two giant spiders, both black with crimson markings on their backs, feasting on a dolphin. They don't seem adverse to adding intruders to the menu.

Not waiting to see what Shadow does, the young man draws two axes and begins creeping down the long corridor as silently as he can. He hugs close to the north wall as he moves forward, checking for traps along the way.

Shadow responds quickly by dodging the spider's attack and returning the favor by attacking the 8 legged (and icky) foes, she not only strikes once but strikes twice with a loud kiai with the last strike.

The curious mind of the young Chelaxian is being pulled in too many directions, trying to soak in all the history and mystery of the place they'd discovered, and he almost walks headlong into the hairy legs of the creature attacking him.

Startled, Delkaneth barely has time to bring his weapons to bear. Hoping his luck is enough to carry him through he strikes out at the spider.

Swift Action: Arch's Luck

The well crafted axe cuts into the creature scoring only a grazing hit. The follow-up strike fares better, the axe connecting with a satisfying crunch.

The satisfaction is short lived as the spider lunges forward and bites into his leg.

Delkaneth can feel the heat of the poison dripping from its fangs as it enters his wound but he grits his teeth and fights on.

Kelgeah's face tenses in surprise, then anger, at the onslaught of arachnids.

"Abominations. Wasp-killers. Looks like we'll be earning Calistria's favor today, friends."

Her declaration is as venomous as the creatures before them as she draws her barbed whip and directs raw power into the length of the weapon; suddenly she lashes out at the spider that dared to bite her comrade.

This time striking true leaving a nice size gash in the spider's cephalothorax while stealing life from it.

Her indignant anger decreases her focus, however, and the chitinous monster hops away from the tip of her whip.

A satisfied smirk comes to Delkaneth's face as the first creature falls. It is quickly replaced, however, with a look of surprise at the ferocity of the remaining spider's attacks. The corridor quickly becomes a little too crowded for the young man, and the cramped quarters throw off his focus to the point that both swings miss terribly.

Watching everyone miss, Shadow shouts, "Too many minds, relax and gain one mind, then strike true!" Shadow sets up for another assault upon the giant spider. Shadow looks quickly at the dead spider and back, then contemplates if she has enough time to coat her blade with venom and stab the living spider with it.

I'll finish updating my character sheet this weekend. I really have enough to still adventure without missing a beat.

Between the two of them, Kelgeah and Shadow bring down the last spider.

Unfortunately, the creatures do not seem to have been feeding on anything rich - treasure-wise, that is.

A search of the place turns up about 25 gold in mixed coins and cheap jewelry.

@DM Ninja - Is Kel going to be botted? If not, we can trade out Shadow and Kel, and I can bring in a Gestalt Magus/Cleric version of my own. I have been making a non-Gestalt version and I can incorporate it in quickly. Del can handle the traps and I can make my Magus/Cleric version mold into the group more than Shadow.

Sunday (fortunately, as it turned out) two of or RotRL players called off, so we were in our 2nd floor computer room, playing a back-up game. I was getting over a bout of that nasty flu going around, and was still a bit stuffed. My daughter kept saying she smelled something odd, but I couldn't smell anything til much later. When I did finally start smelling it around 3, I checked the basement to see if the furnace was off...it wasn't, so I didn't think much of it. Around 5, though the CO monitor went off - at the get out or die level. We popped all the windows and doors, grabbed the cat and her carrier and did so. The monitor showed over 80ppm. Hubby cut the furnace off and called the installers. After first trying to blame the hot water heater, they checked the furnace and the flue was completely blocked with soot. We spend Sunday night without heat (after the fumes cleared out of the house) then Monday was spent calling the installer regularly until their BEST tech showed up with a crew at 3PM and installed an 'expeller' to vent the flue outside, since the trouble seemed to be always based around our 100 year old chimney.

We're alive, we have heat, we have no further CO build-up, and -hopefully- I'm back to regular posting.

YAY!

Glad that you and your family are ok and I hope you all did not freeze while the repairs were being made. I wonder when the last time that chimney was cleaned out? With the smoke from normal fires (if there was a fire place), the steel mills, and the coal burning power plants, it was probably pretty clogged. We had one but removed it for an important reason. In addition, we are the first owners of our home. However, we should get one even though I know the furnace and water heater are on, and the gas fireplace is shut off. Unlike most of Pennsylvania, my perception anyway, we have an electric stove.

I will post tomorrow, our cold weather which is no match for the North East, was causing us problems because we usually do not get as much as the North East. We are just below the regular yearly snow storm areas.

I was going to say something similar.....Im checking this game every day and am always excited to see that little (1) next to it, so I would like to see it continue also. If its possible to increase the pace then great, if not I'll still be here...........
