Bump, Elemental and Construct go before Eva

DM Ninja/infinite

Once again the elemental slams the door, but then it seems to back off, hovering over the narrow bridge, waiting for it's targets to return. it seems that it will not damage the door or internal portions of the Manor.

Meanwhile, the clawed thingie moves to attack the more serious threat: Rova.

slam: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (3) + 9 = 12 for damage: 1d8 + 7 ⇒ (2) + 7 = 9

Eva

Ok, let's get moving again..

Rova manages to parry and sidestep the robo-ficus, and will prune it back further..

Attack: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (12) + 11 = 23
Damage: 2d8 + 10 ⇒ (1, 2) + 10 = 13

..And slices off a few more bits and bobs.

construct vs 1d2 ⇒ 1 for slam: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (4) + 9 = 13 for damage: 1d8 + 7 ⇒ (4) + 7 = 11

Gkirkhan smashes the thing with a pile-driving hammer blow.

DM Ninja/infinite

And the construct is down!

As long as you don't step out until the air elemental summons ends, you're perfectly safe here...maybe...

Anyway, you're now free to explore the place, as it doesn't seem that anyone is home currently.

Map is up. Note: in spite of the legend, all of the squares inside the buildings are 10x10. The bridges and paths are 5' squares, though.

Female Assimar (with Ulfen blood) Cleric(Theologian) 4 / Monk(Spirit Master) 2

"Looks like we are trapped here until the element goes back to it's home.
So why don't we have a look around."

Vertielle takes 20 to search G3, then takes 20 to search G9d, then G10, then G9a, then G8, G7, G6, G5, G4, then G9b, G9c, G9a; working clockwise around the building.
She doesn't mind if it takes a VERY long time, she's very patient when looking for things.
This gives her a 26 on perception checks. Obviously she stops if she's attacked or if she finds anything really interesting.

Gkirkhan calms down some and follows Vertielle. The hammer stays out.

The mage backs up his friends using detect magic to help warn them.

DM Ninja/infinite

G3: In the main room, you find a small switch beside the front doors.

Also, the portrait over the fireplace seems to be of Count Caromarc, and shows him to be a deeply curious man, surrounded by objects d'art and odd specimens. He is standing in front of a painted window showing a narrow bridge.

G9d: this is a storeroom full of coal.

G10: A large kitchen containing a roaring stove, several workbenches, and a beautiful and extremely well-stocked spice cabinet of (apparently) Tian design.

G9a: another storeroom, this one containing household cleaning equipment.

G8: a fancy dining hall. The vaulted ceiling of this huge room is adorned with gilt. A pair of halberds hangs above the huge (lit) fireplace on the far wall, and a great dining table surrounded by twelve chairs takes up the center of the room. You do spot the secret door on the northwest wall, but not the others (DC 30!).

G7: this room contains a billiards table, a rack of cues and a brass and gold score checker.

G6: both of these rooms contain taxidermied animals and stuffed heads.

G5: two plush chairs sit around a small lit fire. Numerous tobacco jars stand on a shelf next to a pipe rack filled with strange pipes.

G4: This seems to be the Count's library. Shelves crammed with books line the walls, and a comfortable-looking well-stuffed leather chair sits in the center next to an everburning lamp.

G9b: this is a very well-stocked wine cellar.

G9c: a well-stocked larder.

Note: both 9b and 9c are being kept cold, presumably by the pipes running along the walls.

Female Half-Elf Bard (Archivist) 5/ Pathfinder Chronicler 1 (hp 49/49; AC 18/14/14; 15/15 rounds)

What's this switch, do you think? She muses to herself.

Vertielle checks the logs to see how long the fire has been burning, and the heat to see if it is magical in nature. She makes note of the door but doesn't open it until this building is searched.

Appraise Score Checker: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (3) + 5 = 8
Vertielle runs her hand across the table and checks all of the holes for hidden objects before picking up the score checker and playing with it for a minute before setting it down.

Appraise Taxidermy: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (5) + 5 = 10
Oh, what a cute squirrel! Vertielle exclaims.

Appraise Tobacco: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (4) + 5 = 9
Vertielle peruses the pipes with little interest.

Ahah! She announces exuberantly when she discovers the books.
Appraise Books: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (8) + 5 = 13
She spends quite a bit of time going over all of the titles, pulling them out and reading the flaps, and leafing through interesting ones.

Appraise Wine: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (14) + 5 = 19
If there is a good Chelish brand available, Vertielle will sample the contents and stuff the bottle into a pouch on her belt with glee.

Vertielle picks up a bit of jerky and snacks on it absently as she looks around for anything interesting.

She exits into the foyer again, pointing at the stairs.

Shall we? she asks, mouth full of jerky. She washes it down with a bit of wine before ascending the stairs, unless anyone protests.

She repeats the same tactic upstairs, letting Wood detect magic on the stairs and even letting Rova or Gkirkhan up the stairs first before she follows.

G12, G13, G11, G11a, G11, working clockwise again.

DM Ninja/infinite

You are unable to detect any magic on the fireplaces, but you do detect several permanent unseen servants.

G12: This room contains three simple cots along with numerous drawings and books in Dwarven littering a nearby table.

G13: this neat bedchamber holds a resplendent four-poser bed surrounded by oak furniture, consisting of a wardrobe, a dressing table, a chest, and a tall dressing mirror.

The wardrobe is crammed with fine men's clothing - 10 noble's outfits, 6 scholar's outfits, and one royal outfit.

In one of the dressing table's drawers is a jewelry box containing a silver chain, a gold snuffbox set with a topaz, a platinum-handled magnifying glass in a leather case and a monocle on a silver chain ending in a diamond pin.

The room seems to have been unused for several days.

There is a faint indication of magic in this room, but the source is difficult to locate.

Perception DC 35!!!! to locate the hidden cabinet.

Did I mention I HATE the DCs in this module?

G11 north & G11 south: two well maintained guest rooms. The only difference is the locked door in the south one (DC25 disable device) leading to a small balcony (with NO railings!) overlooking the falls.

Gkirkhan pauses in front of the wardrobe and looks for the nicest hat in there.

And Gkirkhan will rejoice for he finally has a hat again. :)

Female Half-Elf Bard (Archivist) 5/ Pathfinder Chronicler 1 (hp 49/49; AC 18/14/14; 15/15 rounds)

Full ranks, at this level, in perception would net us like a +12 even with a 16 wisdom... That's only a 32! That's beyond ridiculous. I may take detect secret doors next level, unless you let me swap something for it now.
Vertielle takes the magnifying glass, turning it over a few times before setting it down in favor of the monocle, which she clips in with enthusiasm. She sets about peering at stuff through it with excitement and feigned pretentiousness, interspersed with bouts of giggling.

The magic aura, I'm assuming, is just coming from like the wall where the cabinet is? If that's obvious, Vertielle squints at it for a minute and then rummages around in her pack, pulling out an old dusty scroll. Not sure if shatter would work on the wall, but she can have a scroll of Detect Secret Doors with the Deep Pockets class ability. If you think she could reasonably deduce that there's a hidden compartment behind the wall, then she'll draw it forth and use it.

Well, there don't seem to be any clues here... Though this manor conspicuously misses its master, and any signs of the beast, at that.
Vertielle walks to one of the windows and peers out to the bridge that continues to the other complexes.
Should we move on? She asks simply.

If there's no dissent, Vertielle will search the area for traps and let Wood detect magic before she lets a meat-shield out the door first, and crosses the bridge carefully, detecting magic as we cross.

DM Ninja/infinite

Vertielle, that works for me. With the obvious, but faint aura and checking the southern guest room, you can guess there's something there. I'm fine with a detect secret doors scroll.

-
@Eva: Gkirkhan could have been a girl and still have an unusual fascination with hats. :D

Gkirkhan pulls out two of the hats and puts them back before pulling out a black one with dark feathers and gold trim. A smile splits his face as he sets it on his looking in anything that can be used as a mirror to make sure his new hat is adjusted to the properly jaunty angle.

His mood changes radically and the swagger he had when the party first met is back in full force.

"Vell, dis is un improvement, if Hy do say so myself."

Female Half-Elf Bard (Archivist) 5/ Pathfinder Chronicler 1 (hp 49/49; AC 18/14/14; 15/15 rounds)

Vertielle inspects Gkirkhan's new look through her monocle and grins before returning to the problem at hand.
There must be... door... know I have it here... somewhere... All assortment of items tumble from the bag as she looks around for a minute.
Ahah! comes the muffled cry, her head buried to the shoulders in the pack. Out comes her hand, and her head, clutching a small yellow parchment tightly rolled. She intones the spell and spends a few rounds walking around the house looking for secret doors. Once she's found them and marked them with chalk, she attempts to puzzle out how to open them... likely taking long enough someone just slams it down with force.

That's 75gp I have left in "Deep Pockets" the best class ability ever

Female Half-Elf Bard (Archivist) 5/ Pathfinder Chronicler 1 (hp 49/49; AC 18/14/14; 15/15 rounds)

Marco? Opening secret cabinet(s) and crossing the bridge?

DM Ninja/infinite

Searching the section indicated reveals a small sliding section that when pressed, opens the door.

Inside the secret cupboard are several small chests filled with coins, and a fancy, velvet-lined box holding three small ivory statues of goats. A quick count of the coins gives you a total of roughly 2,000 gold.

Two of the other secret doors seem to be neither relevant (or necessary), however, the third leads to a corridor and a narrow stone bridge without a handrail (a common theme here; OSHA must hate this guy). The bridge itself is three feet wide, and seems rather precariously perched over the rushing waters 200' below.

Moving on:

As you start out, you can see that a portion of the western wall of the other building seems to be damaged, and a bridge (much like the one you are now on) has collapsed and been replaced by a shaky-looking rope bridge to a rather fancy building built into the mountainside to the west. Behind the ruined building, you can see a tower rising into the sky, topped with an odd metallic and glass apparatus.

Female Half-Elf Bard (Archivist) 5/ Pathfinder Chronicler 1 (hp 49/49; AC 18/14/14; 15/15 rounds)

This looks like bad news, Vertielle points out the obvious.
We should tie off, she suggests, in case the bridge is in poor repair.

Eva and Wood to Rova and Vertielle to Gkirkhan should work. That way if one of us falls, at the very least the other can jump the other way off the bridge. We can put pitons in the bridge at the halfway mark. Or, we can just run across one at a time. Whatever works.

DM Ninja/infinite

This bridge is still intact, just narrow. The broken one leads from the building you're approaching to one on the opposite side of the falls.

"Vizards, vhy do dey make de craziest dem tings?!" Gkirkhan asks as he looks over Vertielle's head.

"Well, I can follow behind, but we can use a rope line for safety."

DM Ninja/infinite

Slow and steady seems to be the way to go.

Upon reaching the landing on the other side, you realize that the door is unlocked. it leads into a large workshop crammed with alchemical equipment. The western wall, however, has been ripped away, apparently by some sort of explosion, leaving a large gap in the floor and the wall open. It looks like repairs may have begun, as the wall itself is wreathed in scaffolding. Form where a door in the west wall once stood, you can see the remains of what must have been a similar bridge to the one you just crossed, now linked to another building across the gorge from this one by a slender rope bridge. As Rova moves around the floor creaks ominously under him.

I'm not 100% sure what she'd do without having a close look at the map and knowing the monster's abilities, so I'm going to go with the most likely course of action:

  • Draw and throw a haunt siphon at the monsters, aiming to hit one and catch the other two in the blast.
HOWEVER:[list]
  • If she identifies a powerful sonic or visual effect, she'll instead draw her shortbow and then activate countersong or distraction.
  • If the monsters aren't close enough together to get all three in the blast, and she identifies them, she'll draw her bow and activate Naturalist (+2 attacks, AC, and saves versus them)
  • If she doesn't identify them and they aren't in range for the siphon, she draws and fires her bow, same attack/damage as below.

Vertielle tries to study the creatures as they skitter about. Her keen elven eyes track their features, her mind flipping through the thousands of textbooks she's read about chitinous monsters for a match as she pulls a vial of greenish ichor from her pack.
I knew this would come in handy, she mutters to herself as she pulls the stopper. The thin glass vial makes an eerie shrieking sound like a spirit from beyond and she chucks the thing overhand, the shrieking growing louder until the glass shatters near the foremost creature. The green inside the bottle explodes with a vengeful shriek, a humanoid shape in the gaseous vapors taking shape for an instant before its pained visage dissipates.
