Male hp 20/36; AC 21/14/19 Level 5 Burglar

"Looks like a guard, from the clothes. So was it like this before? Every room had something that appeared out of nowhere and tried to kill you?" Zhiden's fear was apparently somewhat diminished by the sheer absurdity of being attacked by a pair of severed hands. Seeing how things have gone for overly inquisitive folks, Zhiden motioned toward the rack and added, "So, does anyone want to check it out?"

Female Assimar (with Ulfen blood) Cleric(Theologian) 3 / Monk(Martial Artist) 2

Evil Dead 2, Not until I see a wall with a few holes, a book titled "Fairwell to Arms" and a metal bucket.

"Who knows?
We could check to see if it was a prisoner or someone else?"

AC 21b - 11t - 20ff; HP: 44/44; PP: 2/2

"Hang about, Vertielle's in han'-ta-han' combat."

Rova drops the mace, reaches for the strangling hand, and crushes it in his overlarge palm.

Attack: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (17) + 6 = 23
Damage: 1d6 + 4 ⇒ (4) + 4 = 8

"Iffn ya wan' the rest, put it in yer han'bag."

Rova drops the compressed, twitching thing, and retrieves his mace, turning back to Zhiden.

"Dunno 'bout th' upstairs, I joined up when ya did. I'll check out this torture rack. I've got tha' tools in han'."

Rova enjoys the slap-proofing his platemail provides from pun victims

hp 30/39; AC 15/11/14; Luck 8/8 rounds

Oh, it is, er, was quite violent, I suppose. Terrible qualities in a pet.
Vertielle checks the body over for any artifacts or papers.

"Jah, nottink in dis place stays dead. Ve had keeler plants, ghosty chains, und beeg bogs."

DM Ninja/infinite

Within the skeleton's pelvis is a set of keys and jammed into his jaw is a metal disk, obviously what was used to break his jaw.

DM Ninja/infinite

For the future, if you don't want to use my rolls, state that you are rolling or taking 10/20.

hp 30/39; AC 15/11/14; Luck 8/8 rounds

Vertielle examines the metal disk.

DM Ninja/infinite

It's a badge. The name on it reads Warden Lyvar Hawkran.

hp 30/39; AC 15/11/14; Luck 8/8 rounds

Vertielle scans the room with Detect Magic, and searches the skeleton for any distinguishing features before taking the badge.

DM Ninja/infinite

You detect nothing magical in this room the group didn't bring along.

hp 30/39; AC 15/11/14; Luck 8/8 rounds

This should go to Vesorianna on our way out, it may give her some comfort.

Female Assimar (with Ulfen blood) Cleric(Theologian) 3 / Monk(Martial Artist) 2

Agreed, as it may help her find rest.

AC 21b - 11t - 20ff; HP: 44/44; PP: 2/2

"Vesorianna? Who's tha'?"

"Vosn't dot de ghost lady dot iz protectink de town?"

Well played Rova, I had forgotten you weren't here for that. :)
@ The_Ninja_DM: Could you reactivate Gkirkhan as a character?

Male hp 20/36; AC 21/14/19 Level 5 Burglar

Zhiden cast his gaze around the room for anything interesting, particularly for things that didn't look likely to come alive and attack. He thought about asking if they would have to fight the warden, but decided that putting voice to such a notion could only guarantee it.

Perception:
1d20 + 9 ⇒ (17) + 9 = 26

DM Ninja/infinite

@Gkirkhan: done.

DM Ninja/infinite

Zhiden, you spot a secret door in the eastern wall.

Female Assimar (with Ulfen blood) Cleric(Theologian) 3 / Monk(Martial Artist) 2

And what do we find?

Male hp 20/36; AC 21/14/19 Level 5 Burglar

That's odd, I'm almost positive I already posted.

Zhiden made his way to the hidden door, announcing "Hey, I think I've found something. He looked the door over, running his hand over it first, and then trying it to see it was locked.

Since it's almost certainly locked:

Disable Device:
1d20 + 10 ⇒ (14) + 10 = 24

Female Assimar (with Ulfen blood) Cleric(Theologian) 3 / Monk(Martial Artist) 2

Your post was eaten, by the forum monster.

DM Ninja/infinite

No, it's not locked.

hp 30/39; AC 15/11/14; Luck 8/8 rounds

Vertielle is giddy. Secret doors! Mystery! Danger! Excitement!

AC 21b - 11t - 20ff; HP: 44/44; PP: 2/2

Rova continues with mace and shield, standing ready to pull those less wise individuals who rush in, back out of harm's way.

Male hp 20/36; AC 21/14/19 Level 5 Burglar

Oh, in that case, cool!

With baited breath Zhiden opened the door, apprehensive about what might be waiting to jump out at him.

DM Ninja/infinite

The door opens into a natural cavern, it's rough stone walls glinting with moisture dripping into puddles on the uneven floor.

Evangline Perception: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (5) + 8 = 13
Gkirkhan Perception: 1d20 - 2 ⇒ (12) - 2 = 10
Rova Perception: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (14) + 8 = 22
Vertielle Perception: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (14) + 10 = 24
Wood Perception: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (5) + 1 = 6
Zhiden Perception: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (5) + 9 = 14

Rova, pepared for anything, and the ever curious Vertielle are the first to notice movement as something ripples across the floor of the cavern toward our heroes. Unfortunately, it doesn't help Vertielle's combat readiness.

Evangline Initiative: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (15) + 2 = 17
Gkirkhan Initiative: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (3) + 5 = 8
Rova Initiative: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (17) + 3 = 20
Vertielle Initiative: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 1 = 2
Wood Initiative: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (4) + 2 = 6
Zhiden Initiative: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (11) + 6 = 17

Initative order; Round 1:
Rova
Zhiden
Evangline
Gkirkhan
monster_of_the_day
Wood
Vertielle

hp 30/39; AC 15/11/14; Luck 8/8 rounds

Vertielle's first reaction, as always, OH! I wonder what it EATS!

DM Ninja/infinite

Are you sure you want to know? heheheh

HP: 49/63 AC 18/14/14: F+7, R +4, W +1, Per:-2, Init: +5, Rage: 9/9

"Gorly, Hy like hyu, but Hy vish hyu vouldn't ask tings like dot, and Hy tink et iz vun helluva safe bet dot votever dis beastie is eetz tings like us."

Gkirkhan launches himself forward while drawing his greatsword and strikes at the creature with one powerful swinging movement.

Going a head and getting Gkirkhan's actions in in case I can't post tomorrow until after 5 PM CDT.

Round 1:
Move next to the soon to be dead beastie and draw greatsword.

If Crit: 31 damage
If no Crit: 16 damage

hp 30/39; AC 15/11/14; Luck 8/8 rounds

Oh, well, I meant on a annual basis, of course...

DM Ninja/infinite

If it lasts til Gkirkhan, that will certainly kill it. However, Gkirkhan (and anyone else who hits it with anything that isn't made of stone) give me a reflex save. DC 20.

Female Assimar (with Ulfen blood) Cleric(Theologian) 3 / Monk(Martial Artist) 2

"What the heck is that?"

"MORE goo! Gah!"

Not willing to lose time switching weapons, Rova swings with the mace..
Again surging with ripples of physical power [free: lose focus to power psi weapon feat]

Attack: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (4) + 7 = 11
Damage: 1d8 + 6 + 2d6 ⇒ (5) + 6 + (5, 3) = 19

Reflex: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (5) + 3 = 8

Machine likes that number for reflex saves..

Rova delivers a dependably solid strike..

DM Ninja/infinite

Oops, sorry, thing's immune to crits

Spoiler:
HP 50 - 19 (rova) = 31 - 16 (gkirkhan) = 15

Gkirkhan, your weapon takes 1d6 ⇒ 6 acid damage.

Rova, your weapon takes 1d6 ⇒ 3 acid damage.

Male hp 20/36; AC 21/14/19 Level 5 Burglar

"I would rather wait until it is dead before we wonder about what it is."

Zhiden was glad that Rova had charged ahead, leaving him to sneak around the side and catch it off guard.

Attack: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (8) + 7 = 15
Damage: 1d4 + 2d6 ⇒ (3) + (6, 2) = 11

I have been doing that correctly, right? I only get to use both weapons if I make a full attack?

DM Ninja/infinite

@Zhiden: Yes, you can only use both during a full attack.

Spoiler:
HP 50 - 19 (rova) = 31 - 16 (gkirkhan) = 15 - 3 (zhiden) = 12

Zhiden slips around the shifting pool of translucent liquid goo and slashes it, then realizes he's done less damage than he thought. And his weapon takes 1d6 ⇒ 2 damage from the acidic fluids coating the thing.

Not subject to critical hits or flanking. Does not take additional damage from precision-based attacks, such as sneak attack.

Ooo, it's turn. Unless Eva wants to try to damage it?

Victims: Gkirkhan=1, Rova=2, Zhiden=3 [No one else is close at this time.]

1d3 ⇒ 3

slam_vs_Zhiden: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (7) + 6 = 13

damage_slam: 1d6 + 4 ⇒ (1) + 4 = 5

damage_acid: 1d6 ⇒ 4

grab: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (11) + 6 = 17 vs Zhiden's cmd.

As Zhiden slashes it, a pseudopod forms, slamming at him. However, his natural talents allow him to avoid the creature.

Male hp 20/36; AC 21/14/19 Level 5 Burglar

Oops, I also forgot the reflex save.

Reflex: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (1) + 8 = 9

DM Ninja/infinite

@Zhiden: failed the save, your weapon takes the damage.

AC 21b - 11t - 20ff; HP: 44/44; PP: 2/2

"Aw, <curse words>! This was a loner fr'm th' townies! <curse words>! Now I gotta git it fixed!"

Rova tosses the mace into the room behind him [free action].

Female Assimar (with Ulfen blood) Cleric(Theologian) 3 / Monk(Martial Artist) 2

what type of knowledge check will help me Id the creature, and learn about it?

DM Ninja/infinite

Dungeoneering.

hp 30/39; AC 15/11/14; Luck 8/8 rounds

KnDungeoneering: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (10) + 3 = 13
It would seem the protostic shell is caustic, but, it did respond instincually to attack... Here, let's see how this does!
Vertielle flips a consumed haunt siphon towards the creature, the top affixed to a bit of twine. As it reaches its natural length, a hearty tug on the twine spills a black nimbus of crackling negative energy over the creature.
Attack/ Damage: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (14) + 3 = 171d6 ⇒ 5

DM Ninja/infinite

Some sort of slime or ooze. That hurt it, but not enought to kill it.

Spoiler:
remaining HP 12-5=7

Wood? You are before Vertielle.

Wood decides to fire a crossbow as his acid attack will probably not work. He is distracted by the press of bodies around his target and clearly misses.
1d20 + 3 ⇒ (5) + 3 = 81d8 ⇒ 2 -4 for an engaged target I assume.

This shows up in my post history, but not here. I will avoide the urge to reroll.

1d20 + 3 ⇒ (5) + 3 = 8 1d8 ⇒ 2 -4 for an engaged target I assume

DM Ninja/infinite

Yes, engaged target. I wondered what was going on as I knew you were posting elsewhere. Glad you're still with us. Looks like we're on to round 2

Round 2, people:
Rova
Zhiden
Evangline
Gkirkhan
monster_of_the_day
Wood
Vertielle

AC 21b - 11t - 20ff; HP: 44/44; PP: 2/2

"Stupid acid-y goo! You go splat now!"

Rova rears up on the front of his feet [swift action - enter Dragon style], and stomps the sludge!

Attack: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (3) + 6 = 9
Damage: 1d6 + 8 ⇒ (4) + 8 = 12

Amusingly, the resulting tremor splits the remaining jelly rather..fatally.

Reflex: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (17) + 3 = 20

DM Ninja/infinite

Aaand the big new guy stomps to ooze into -less dangerous- ooze.

You find yourselves staring into a natural cavern obviously once used as a passageway. Like much of the rest of this place it is rather unhealthy damp, with dripping walls and stagnant pools of water in spots marking the uneven floor. The somewhat irregular passage seems to lead toward the east.

Do you chose to follow it or check out more of the finished parts of the basement first?
