Research and scholarship are my strengths, but diplomacy is not. I would love to check out the 'Scroll'.

Wood rubs his hand together and brings out an ancient book with arcane writings and nervously passes his finders over the raised symbols on the cover.

"I understand the information we need may be at the temple or the 'Scroll', but I tend to rub folks the wrong way. I will continue to research in the professors library, but if someone can convince one of the other places to let a 'visiting scholar' in, most preferrably at night by borrowing the keys, that may solve the problem of our less than attractive types upsetting the locals. May I have the professor's room by the way?"

Knowledge History for Whispering Way then Harrowstone 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (18) + 10 = 281d20 + 10 ⇒ (15) + 10 = 25

Wood did discover info on Harrowstone on the way in, so he will do 'the Way' research first. Call me master scholar.

Female Human Ninja 3

I still did not receive my card from the fate deck...

Edit: Sorry, i didn't see your post in the discussion thread. So much to reading while tired.

DM Ninja/infinite

Que checks her card while the others are discussing plans for the future. She has drawn The Avalanche (le) from the suit of Keys.

@Que: no problem. I should have posted it here, too.

Female Human Ninja 3

"I don't think breaking in those places is a good idea. If anything goes wrong, it will just raise the suspicions of the populace."

que realizes, that she won't be of any help doing all that sifting through the books, so she offers Gkirkhan to accompany him into town.

1d20 + 8 ⇒ (16) + 8 = 24 diplomacy

DM Ninja/infinite

@Vertielle: The Whispering Way is a sinister organization of Necromancers that has been active in the Inner Sea region for thousands of years. Members seek alliances with the undead or are themselves undead. It's most notorious member is certainly Tar-Baphon, the Whispering Tyrant, though the cult existed long before the Tyrant came along. the symbols you recognize are almost as old. You'd need to see more of them to translate the intent, though.

@Wood: You get more...The Whispering Way itself is a series of philosophies, transmitted only via whisper, and never written. Their exact goals and nature are impossible to pin down for this reason.

The only obvious goal of the Whispering Way is to engineer the release of The Whispering Tyrant. To this end they apparently investigate many haunted locales to research the nature of undeath and to sometimes capture unique monsters.

Their symbol is a gagged skull, and those who learn too much of the Way's secrets meet their end in hideous ways: mouths and faces mutilated to prevent communication via speak with dead spells.

As for Harrowstone: It was build in 4594 and housed prisoners from all over Ustalav and other countries. the Count at the time earnd money by accepting other country's worst criminals. Ravengro iteslf was built to support the prison, providing homes for the guards, other staff and their families.

The fire destroyed most of the underground eastern wing but left most of the upper levels relatively intact. The prison's warden, his wife, and most of the guards perished in the blaze. None of the surviving guards could say why Mrs. Hawkran was there. In themonths following the fire, the town built a memorial to the Warden and the 23 guards who perished. It still stands at the riverbank t this day. As for the prisoners, it seems that *all* of them perished. It also seems that no one ever recovered any of the bodies.

The most serious and dangerous prisoners were usually there for only a few months while awaiting execution. Most of the town was relieved about the fire as the surviving guards tales told of a riot and nearly successfull escape attempt, stopped only by the sacrifices of the Warden and the other guards, who gave their lives to save the town.

The riot was led by five of the most notorious prisoners, who had arrived at the beginning of the year and two of whom were due to be executed soon. The Professor's notes include a document from one of the sruviving guards who states that the prisoners had been in control of the dungeon for hours, held there only due to Wardan Hawkran's triggering a deadfall that sealed the stairs. The fire was accidentally started by the panicked and desperate guards when the prisoners finally found an exit.

Interesting. The date of the fire was 25 Calistril 4662.

DM Ninja/infinite

@Que: the locals like you much better than Gkirkhan. One man, who claims his grandfather was one of the guards who perished, tells you that the leaders of the escape attempt were the five most notorious prisoners; Father Charlatan, the Lopper, the Mosswater Marauder, the Piper of Illmarsh, and the Splatter Man.

You will need seperate checks for each of them for more details.

Also, if you back up Gkirkhan, you can try and talk him out of taking up the challenge his new -friend- (whom you think you recognize from the incident at the burial) is making. Or you can let him try...your call.

And, yes, that elf dude looks like a lady.

Getting info on prisoners even through Diplomacy is researching.

Wood muses to himself and begins to research the date of the fire--25 Calistril 4662. He then relates the results of his research to the group.

"I would like to know if someone wants to visit the statue by the river with me? It may yield clues."

DM Ninja/infinite

@Wood: Int check, please.

He puffs himself up and tries to sit straighter.

Vertielle looks out at the gloom of the early evening, and seems to be somewhere else for a few moments. Conjuring a soft, bluish light to follow her, she turns back to Wood.
I'll attend you to this statue, friend.
I know not what clues we shall find, nor where... but I will upend every rock, destroy every vault, and sweep my tireless gaze across all of Golarion until those who took such a great mind from the world are as ash on the wind. In the name of The Gray Master, I swear it.

@Que: roll a d10 for me. Oh and the name of the only tavern in town is The Laughing Demon.

@everyone else: As the group still at the Lorrimir place exits the house, you see two figures heading along the road, coming your way. Once they get close, you recognize Gkirkhan as one of them. "Greetings, my love-e-ly elf-y lady. My name is Lazelo, Lazelo Praduri. Me and this orc-y guy are goin' up t' th' prison...it's a bet, ya see. LOOK OUT GHOSTIES"

@Vertielle: You think he was one of Gib's followers at the burial. He's also drunk as a skunk.

DM Ninja/infinite

@Que: You quickly realize he doesn't know anything more about those people. Roll a d10.

Female Half-Elf Bard (Archivist) 5/ Pathfinder Chronicler 1 (hp 49/49; AC 18/14/14; 15/15 rounds)

Vertielle sighs deeply.
Liable to get themselves killed, even should all they encounter be a donkey of a particularly foul mood, in their condition...Even so, I would rather none disturb the scene unduly before I may see it in full daylight.
Well met, Lazelo; I am Vertielle. May I inquire the nature of your wager, perhaps?
Assuming I'm right in that whoever spooks first loses, I'll hasten the inevitable by casting Dancing Lights to form a ghostly outline apparition type after an appropriate delay, and perhaps once they are on the edge of town. Afterwards, I'll help Gkirkhan back to his rooms.

Oh this is going to be good. Good luck with spooking them.

"Vell, it iz simple veally. Vhen vun uv us jumps, he haz to take a drink. First vun to pass out licks de odder guy's boots clean."

Gkirkhan looks like he thinks himself mighty clever. Although there is alcohol clearly on his breath he doesn't seem too drunk.

"Dere's nottink to vorry about. De ghosties iz gunna be too scared uv me to do enyting."

"It's simple, m'lady. All we do is take a drink if'n one o' them ghostes at the prison scares us. First one t' pass out looses n' has ta clean t' other's boots..." He pauses for a moment. " wi' his tongue o'course. Funny, huh?"

He leans closer and adds, in what he fondly thinks is a whisper,"See, I'm a farm hand...ye kin kinda guess what's on MY boots! hehehe"

Gkirkhan looks kinda steady, but Lazelo may not even make it to Harrowstone.

Gkirkhan holds out a tankard of ale.

Delighted to have such delightful company to the statue, Wood is shocked to run into the duo of drinking buddies.
