The Mystery of Loch Feinn

Game Master greg white 722

In the spring of 1941, agents of Department M, a branch of England's security services dealing with the most outré of threats, is sent to the remote Scottish Highlands, to investigate a possible Nazi menace on the shores of desolate Loch Feinn.

Done! Athletics down to 3/10.

Henry pulls himself together and tries to pummel the man into submission! Spending 3 from Scuffling: 1d6 + 3 ⇒ (5) + 3 = 8

So 1d6 damage please. He's not looking so great himself.

Damage!: 1d6 ⇒ 4

Male Human Author of Planetary Romances

Damage!: 1d6 ⇒ 4

Edward tries to use his shoulder to get hit the man hard just under the ribcage.

I'm too bloody old for this, Edward thinks.

Male Human

The elder doctor scurries off to the corner, grabbing his medical satchel in preparation to help whomever should need it the most.

I don't believe my fighting skills are up to par, so I shall prepare myself for the worst he thinks.

LCDR Readington-Smythe: You get in a couple of good blows, but he snarls a curse at you.
Thug: The Dwellers in the Dark Waters want you dead!
Mr. Carter: Your man groans, as you dive into his mid-section, and he wavers, looking, for a moment, as if he might pass out.

Male Human Author of Planetary Romances

Can Edward use a point of Athletics to try to knock the man out? An old-fashioned roundhouse like you see in the movies.

Another 3 from scuffling!: 1d6 + 3 ⇒ (1) + 3 = 4
Damage!: 1d6 ⇒ 6

Henry continues to slug and headbutt the man.

Edward Carter: Well your man is already making consciousness rolls, so any further 'scuffling damage' will cause further rolls.

No so fast LCDR .

Man with SMG : Swings his weapon, trying to smash the butt into LCDR Readington-Smythe's skull. Scuffling, 2 point spend: 1d6 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 2 = 5

Man with shotgun : Shrieking wildly he claws at you like an animal.

Scuffling, 2 point spend: 1d6 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 2 = 5

Butt of SMG damage: 1d6 ⇒ 6
Frenzied attack: 1d6 ⇒ 3

Ouch. LCDR Readington-Smythe is really taking it for King and Country .

Male Human

Seeing the LCDR in trouble, Emrys approaches the man with an SMG from the rear and grabs his satchel by the straps and swings it about like a hurling bat (something he had seen at a few Gaelic games in the past).

Using a 2 points from Athletics as well as the bonus point awarded from an earlier post

Athletics: 1d6 + 3 ⇒ (2) + 3 = 5

Male Human Author of Planetary Romances

Has Edward's target passed out?

Afraid not Mr. Carter; though he is clearly unsteady on his feet

Dr. Hamner: I'll allow that; though I think a rules lawyer would argue that any physical attacks should use 'scuffling'; but oh well, first time playing. Roll 1d6 for damage

Male Human Author of Planetary Romances

As his American cousin is wont to say, though Edward is often bemused by the American's abuse of the King's English, Edward decides there is no other recourse than to "deliver a haymaker" to that shotgun-wielding freak.

slug to the cheekbone: 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (5) + 1 = 6

That's showing the scoundrel Mr. Carter !

Damage roll please.

Male Human Author of Planetary Romances

Damage!: 1d6 ⇒ 2

Disrought, Edward thinks, I'm simply not as young as I used to be.

Is Henry still awake or am I unconscious from the wound?

So you're at '0' Health correct? You're still conscious; though, if you take further injury you'll have to make a consciousness test; with the difficulty being the amount of points below zero that your current health is. I'll let you have the 3 points back from that last Athletics spend (we'll call it the temporary shock from having the wind knocked from you.

It was a fairly weak blow, but it was still sufficient, Mr. Carter, as your man folds.

Male Human

Thanks cirle. I'll keep that in mind for the future.

Damage: 1d6 ⇒ 6

Are all enemy combatants "neutralized" for the moment? Depending on answer, that'll dictate my next series of actions.

Both men are down; the field is yours. Dr. Hanmer I suggest that you see to LCDR Readington-Smythe.

Henry grimaces. "I believe I have been wounded, Mister Carter and Doctor Hanmer. He got a few plugs in on me." Henry keeps his hand tight over the wound as he was taught in basic.

Male Human Author of Planetary Romances

Edward whirls, waves his arms frantically and rushes to the LCDR's side.

"Emrys! We have a wounded man here!"

Edward shifts the injured LCDR to ensure that he is as comfortable as possible and that he can breathe okay. The actions cause memories to come roaring back, holding the head of a mate in the trenches of Verdun, a Hun soldier leaping into their muddy, guano-filled shelter, Edward removing his sidearm and discharging it several times before the German can inflict even more damage to British salient. And then Edward remembers his mate's death rattle, and his last words, about something about strange geometries in the South Pacific... of all things. A delusion no doubt.

Edward motions frantically for his cousin, but what he is really doing is trying to swat away that dreadful memory.

So LCDR, you're down by how many points of Health? You're seriously wounded if its between -6 and -11.

By my count I'm at -3.

Ok. So that means that you're Hurt. To use an Investigative Ability you first have to make a Consciousness Test (Difficulty 3, currently) to 'think through the haze of pain'. You also suffer a +1 Difficulty level penalty. For each point of First Aid spent on you by another, restores 2 points. If you have the First Aid ability you can use it on yourself (1/1 for points restored) .

Male Human

The elder doctor quickly rushes to Edward and the LCDR. He quickly assess the LCDR's wounds and states calmly, "Doesn't look too bad Henry. We shall get you patched up in a jiffy!"

First Aid: 1d6 + 4 ⇒ (3) + 4 = 7

Male Human Author of Planetary Romances

Note: My sister is in the hospital and it's nontrivial. I will check in as I am able, but it may be midweek before I can get engaged into the game again.

Understood Mr. Carter. I hope everything turns out ok.

So that's six points restored, LCDR. The bullet's path was clean, and there was minimal internal bleeding.

Male Human

That brings the LCDR back to +3, how far down from being well again is he?

Sorry to hear that Carter, hope all turns out well

Henry accepts the medical attention and is able to stand with the doctor's help. "How are those two?" He gestures to the downed men. "More importantly, WHO are those two, sir?"

The bigger man is simply unconscious, and quite probably concussed. The smaller man is loosing blood quite badly, and will require medical attention before too long.

Male Human

Emrys stands up with the LCDR. As the LCDR gestures towards the two men, Emrys sees the man loosing blood. He quickly releases his grasp on the LCDR's arm and approaches the bloodied man.

"I don't know who you are, but I am a doctor. I will attempt to administer assistance but I need to make sure you understand. Please let me know if you understand."

As he waits for an answer, he waves the LCDR and Edward over.

In the back of his mind, Emrys is fearful that the man may try something stupid but judging by the wounds, he should be safe.

Better to have the two gentlemen close, just in case... Always be prepared they say in the scouts!

The fallen man mutters something underneath his breath; he appears to be barely conscious himself.

Male Human Author of Planetary Romances

Edward approaches the same man that his cousin is talking to. He glares at the wounded man, narrowing his eyes and speaking through clenched teeth: "Bitte antworten Sie auf Englisch, wenn Sie in der Lage sind," Edward says.

Edward wants to see if the man's eyes light up at the sound of German. It's a fairly transparent -- and probably ineffective -- attempt to see if the man is a Nazi.

My sister is facing chemo for cancer. I definitely need our game as a distraction. Thank you for the kind words.

There is no response to Mr. Carter's inquiry.

As Carter dresses the man's wounds he notes some intricate tattoo work; obviously Celtic in inspiration, but more angular and spiky.

So sorry to hear that...here's hoping for a positive outcome

Male Human Author of Planetary Romances

"You have an interesting symbol engraved on your person, sir. Some kind of football club?" Edward asks.

Dr. Hanmer, could we have test of First Aid (Difficulty 4); also, how many points are you willing to spend?

Male Human

I'll spend 2 points towards the First Aid Check

First Aid: 1d6 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 2 = 5

You're able to staunch the bleeding; though your patient still appears to be unconscious.

Male Human Author of Planetary Romances

Edward backs away to give Emrys room to work, and looks around for the shotgun. If Edward is able to spot it, he takes it.

So you're now the owner of a well-used, but apparently well-kept shot-gun.

Male Human

Emrys continues to work on his patient in an attempt to return him to the land of the conscious.

He quickly glances over his shoulder at Edward and states, "Cousin, please be ready to restrain this man should he be hostile when I get him to come to. You too commander."

Male Human Author of Planetary Romances

Edward places the shotgun within reach of himself but out of reach of Emrys' patient, and then stands ready to restrain him.

You've staunched the bleeding; furthermore you suspect that the patient is only feigning unconsciousness now.

Henry staggers to his feet and motions toward the downed men. "Are they Krauts, sir? Or collaborators?"

Hello! For the next week I will be at Gen-Con and/or decompressing after Gen-Con. If you're there, I'll be around the Sagamore Ballroom running PFS all through the Con. Feel free to look me up! However I will probably not be accessing the boards much so feel free to NPC me if needed! Thanks! James

Male Human Author of Planetary Romances

I envy your trip to GenCon. I have never been. In fact, I have never been to an RPG con of any type.
.
Is there something that Edward can use to tie up the suspect?

I just now realized that we don't have an equipment list. I can't believe we've made it this far without my using a 10-foot-pole :) Do we need equipment lists so that we can address situations like this?

Have fun LCDR

Well, this is where you could use Preparedness; I'll say having rope is a Difficulty 4 test.

Edward quickly ruffles through his supplies to see if there is anything to tie up the suspect, like rope or something.

Check for rope:: 1d6 ⇒ 3

Looks like all he has is some old thread, and that'll scarcely do the trick.

Well, you didn't come out onto the moors tonight expecting into get a life or death fight with possible enemy agents!

I'll allow Dr. Hanmer a similar test, Difficulty 3, to have in his possession sedatives powerful enough to render your prisoners temporarily unconscious.
