Gameplay thread is up :) Have fun

FYI I am speccing this guy for sword and board style at first. Then he will get combat strategy (tripping and such) and then maybe two weapon fighting.

Very nice start there. :) I enjoy the banter and getting to know you are displaying. I think I'll get ready to start the story in earnest tomorrow or the day after, depending on how much activity is going on

Siera, please give me a fort save in your next post

Female Tiefling Bard 3

TerraNova, while you're keeping an eye on this, you also need to post Ryoko's attack in the Jade Regent game. :)

Taldor RPG Superstar 2009 Top 32

Rest seemingly does lead to rust. After re-reading my last few posts, I noticed my atrocious spelling, grammar and borderline incoherent writing. :/ Seems the year of not writing longer texts regularly did a number on me there.

I'll hopefully get back into shape soon.

m Orc 8 Fighter / 2 Champion

Don't worry, it's like riding a bike. You might be wobbly for a little while but you will get the hang of it.

I told you I'd maybe get creative with rewards for shockingly bad archeology, and here is my first draft:

  • In each adventure of Serpent Skull, there will be artifacts. Some will be rumored of, some will be chance finds.
  • You can claim every one of them once you find and secure it (enough to, in principle, be able to take / destroy / paint your name on)
  • Each artifact you claim increases one base ability score by one. So, the ruby skull might grant each of you +1 base intelligence, while the Flutes of Carnage grant +1 base constitution.
  • These bonuses are direct modification of your base score, and remain even if the artifact is sold, lost or abandoned.

I have placed 1 artifact for each ability score on Smuggler's shiv - some in areas you are bound to visit, some a ways off.

What do you think?

5x5 captain!

Male Human Ranger 1

So these are group/party bonuses? If we secure the prized idol of Ishtar, we all get a +1 to our Wis regardless of who is in possession of it and what happens to it later?

Overall, I'm fine with it. Happy even. Just wanting some clarification.

Female Tiefling Bard 3

Sounds interesting -- but yeah, some clarification on whether it affects individuals or the whole party would be good.

I read it as an AOE permanent buff.

Yep. You claim the idol, and all gain the benefit from there on out - even if you barter it back to the tribesmen

Pleroma Aeon Commoner 1

Sounds pretty neat!

It also sounds like something my character would go bonkers trying to find more once the first one is found... if there's loot to be looted, he'll do his damned-est to, even if it means sneaking out at night! Especially since I'm counting his previously accumulated treasure to be lost with the ship and he's desperate to replace it, despite being currently focused on the current needs of survival.

GM TerraNova:

Since you've expressed frustration with your current writing skills and desire to improve, I thought I'd point out that it should be "land and sea" instead of "land and see". No, I don't plan on making a habit of this - but I figure it's something that would slip past a spell-check, so you just didn't notice that you did it several times. I know there's plenty of room for improvement in my writing skills as well, so I hope that didn't come across... poorly.

Question for in-game goings on:

In my excitement of the shipwreck, I forgot Misha had spells. (*smacks self*) (This is what happens when you start playing too many characters at once.)

But I assume on the other hand our rest was a tad interrupted by near death at sea and all. She's a spontaneous caster so doesn't need to prep but I'm not sure how the situation would affect how many spells she'd have left per day, etc.

If she DOES have her spells, she does have some cure light wounds she could spare for Alton--or hold onto them in case they're needed later (I know Alton got some healing from Rafflesia's positive energy channel). She's also got mending to help fix up the various things they salvage.

Male Human Ranger 1

That's a great adventuring incentive, encourages the whole party to take risks and explore things they might not otherwise, and for the Shiv that fits perfectly.

Siera, sorry for intercepting you. :/ I placed Aerys with the "inland expedition" for the moment, so one of us should probably edit. :)

Bah forgot to mention posting time slows for me on the weekend.

Hey guys. This has nothing to do with the PBP, but it's just something Pathfinder-related
I've worked on and happy with the way it came out: A Google Map of the Inner Sea.

Female Human Fighter (Unarmed Fighter) 1

That's great man :)
Do ya know if it is possible to download that page and use it offline? I'd love to load it up on a tablet and use it in a table game.

Heh, someone just asked me that in the other thread. With all the Google-y crap going on

in the background, my guess is you can't, but I've added it to my list of things to investigate.

I posted in the official thread, but you can close the investigation.

I just saved the page on my Samsung Galaxy and it works perfectly even offline.

Great work!

wow, very cool Morbus!

Due to circumstances beyond my control, my next update will be in ~24 hours at the earliest. :/ Sorry.

In an unrelated note, I would like to get somewhat tighter organization into the game. The flow currently is good, but it could be better if (for example) you agreed on a plan of action before announcing you split up. This time, i took things in stride and placed you all together before the encounter.

Also, it would help setting scenes.

Hi there.

My wife and daughter are still sick, and the workload is driving me bananas, so I don't know if i can crank out an update tonight. I made you a cookie, though - a map of what you have discovered on the shiv so far. I added it to a album that will hold all maps, ...

http://photobucket.com/guestlogin?albumUrl=http://s524.photobucket.com/albu ms/cc321/TerraN0va/mwangi%20expedition/

The password is map-leaf - you might remember that ;)

This one map is also directly available at

http://s524.photobucket.com/albums/cc321/TerraN0va/mwangi%20expedition/?act ion=view&current=shiv_explore_0.png

More sites will be added as you stumble upon them. For now, I added all the arial recon has yielded, plus what you know of the Shiv's general layout.

Female Tiefling Bard 3

Hope your family gets better, good luck. THanks for the maps, will look at them in a little bit. :)

Male Human Ranger 1

Hope the family gets well soon!

Thanks for the map, do I read that correctly in that we are aware of shipwrecks on the beach in either direction?

I have also been victim of sudden influx of RL but that is dying down so hopefully I can pay more attention to posts.

Going away for the weekend, not sure what connectivity I will have so please bot me if necessary.

Topic for discussion: As you can see, i used the on-site roller in my last post. IMHO this clogs up the flow of the post quite severely, but I can also understand you wanting to keep an eye out.

What do you prefer? Open rolls for everyone, or my bag of dice behind my GM Screen? :)

Male Human Ranger 1

I'm fine with either way, so if you prefer to use your own bag of dice behind the scenes that's cool with me. I use a dice tower and open roll in the Friday games that I run, but that's because it makes things go quicker and keeps the flow going when sitting around the table and I think that's the same thing you're aiming for here in the forums.

HP 16/16 | Init +3; Per +7, Traps +5 | AC 16, touch 14, flat-footed 13 | Fort +3, Ref +7, Will +1 (+2 vs Fear)

I'm a fan of anything that keeps things moving. I've been reading another campain that the GM rolls all initiatives behind the screen just for pacing purposes and it seems to be working out pretty well... they're up to almost 1000 posts in seven weeks.

Male Human Ranger 1

I don't mind either way. It wasn't too bad to have the rolls in the post. If you think it disrupts the flow, you could always put them in the spoiler tag.

Female Human Fighter (Unarmed Fighter) 1

One thing I believe it can speed combats a lot is the GM just rolling everyone's initiative and posting the combat order, so we don't need to wait until everyone rolls and then start posting actions.

Sorry for the absence, busy life right now.

Female Tiefling Bard 3

I would say for simplicity's sake, rolling in the thread is fine. It's similar to what I've seen other GMs do and I've got no problem with it. It clogs up the game no more than people pausing to roll IRL between describing their actions.

Male Human Ranger 1

Away for the weekend. No posts from me.

Taldor RPG Superstar 2009 Top 32

Hell weekend for me. Maybe, big maybe update tomorrow.

Taldor RPG Superstar 2009 Top 32

Folks, as you may or may not know, I am suffering from a prolonged, nasty family crisis involving serious illness of my wife. Today, a checkup revealed her last surgery was unsuccessful, and while that is not life-threatening, it means another major surgery this year, as well as a crippling condition that heavily overshadows our relationship.

I am not cancelling this game, but this news shook me pretty severely, and I have no mind for any of this right now. I will update when I can, but right now have other issues on my mind.

M Elf 1 Wizard

Family is more important than fantasy. Take all the time you need. Our prayers are with you.

Ouch. We're nebulous entities in your computer. Ditch us for your flesh beings, please!

Agree. Take care of your family first.

Pleroma Aeon Commoner 1

What everyone else has said, family comes first. Best wishes for you all!

Female Tiefling Bard 3

Take care, Terra Nova, and best wishes for you and your wife. I really hope things will get better for you. We'll be here when you get back.

I hope for the best for you and your family TerraNova

Taldor RPG Superstar 2009 Top 32

Well, it's been a week. Nothing gained but nothing lost either. I will try and read up on what has occurred, and re-start tomorrow night.

Thank you all for your kind words. Even though it doesn't change any of the facts, it still matters a lot.

Female Human Fighter (Unarmed Fighter) 1

In a time like this my poor english skills fail me, TerraNova. As a person who has gone through a similar situation I know everything else just fades into the background and loses its importance. We all understand that, and no one would think twice about giving you all the space you need.

Finally just want to say that I hope for the best for you and your wife.

M Elf 1 Wizard

Varg hasn't posted with any of his aliases for three weeks. I have a feeling we won't be seeing him again.

Female Human Fighter (Unarmed Fighter) 1

That's why we have such a large number of people! Now we start Survival Mode!

HP 16/16 | Init +3; Per +7, Traps +5 | AC 16, touch 14, flat-footed 13 | Fort +3, Ref +7, Will +1 (+2 vs Fear)

So when does the tribe meet to vote someone off the island?
