Here is how it starts out:
You 5 adventurers have come from far and wide to seek jobs in Lethtor, a rough-and-tumble frontier town near Mount Vlandoridge. Lethtor is a small town, consisting of a few houses, a tavern, a trading post, and a small city hall next to a inn. The town is pretty much a small road with a few buildings to either side, and a small town square. The arrival of you 5 is met with curious glances, but nothing more. You 5 have all booked rooms in the Panastone inn ahead of time. The game starts out in the common room of the inn, which also serves as a tavern.
Gorn Steelbreaker |
Ya! The Classics are classic for a reason!
Branwen, a massive man sits down at your table. His great form strains against the confines of a suit of metal scales that, though well crafted, appears old. A sword of largest make rides along his back, but it seems a child's plaything when tied to so big a frame. He sets down a large pitcher of red wine that he's using as a mug and extends a hand, thick as a ham hock
"Good to meet you," he says, the deep voice rumbling like an angry storm cloud. "Name's Gorn. What's yours?"
Ya, I'm TOTES stoked about this character. It is SO the opposite of the skill monkey/tactical mages that I usually play. Let the breaking of STEEL begin!
ULTRAGEEK |
Sola and Gorn are at the same table, and they just spoke to each other, right?
You hear a loud noise. A stout dwarf with a not-so-fiery beard has walked in, huffing as he looks around. His outfit consists of a normal shirt and baggy pants held up by a large belt. Need a drink... A good mug o' beer Flustered, he marches up to the bar and signals the bartender.
Some irl stuff will keep me from posting from this Friday to next Saturday. Just warning everybody. Sorry for the break from
posting.Thanks
Branwen Redwolf |
Reluctantly, Branwen walks to the lone inn in Lethtor, seeking work to quench her adventurous mood. More like boredom.
'Ugh, people ... ' she thought as she strode up to the door of the inn. "Panastone," the sign above the door read. *groan* 'Oh well, let's do this!'
Bran pulls her hat over her eyes, throws open the door, and swaggerdly walks to the main desk. "I'll take a room ... For one. And some ale ... That'd be nice."
She walks over to a table and downs a mug of mead in one chug. As she sits thoughtfully, wondering where to go next, a hulking half-ogre plops down in front of her and extends a hand.
Shaking it with an almost equally enormous hand, Branwen says, "People call me ... Bran Redwolf; that's Branwen to you. So, what's a fellow like you doing here?"
Let the flying of EAGLES begin!
ULTRAGEEK |
The dwarf you saw earlier marches up to you four. He looks much more composed, like a mug of beer fixes everything. He is beaming with confidence, like he is in control. Aye, me heard ye four 've been looking for a job.He softly grumblesWheres the fifth?, but continuesA fine job me's can offer ya. If ye four escort me wagon full of goods to Teraster Trading Port in the town of Teraster, me's be paying ya 100 gold each. There are a couple of those nasty goblins, but me trust that ye can hold them off. So, what do ya say
Korak The Boisterous |
A clean shaven dwarf marches up behind him two casks on his carried in easy reaching distance. I was in me room preparing me drinks. They get a little finicky.
Korak The Boisterous |
Korak's me name. Though I be better known as Korak the boisterous. I get a bit loud when I've got a good mug chilling me hand and warming me belly.
Gorn Steelbreaker |
Gron answers Branwen's query. "I heard there was work for thems what gots a good arm an'a good sword. I've both wit' me, sos I thought there'd be gold an' glory for the taking. What else is there?"
He lifts up his wine pitcher in one hand and takes a large gulp when the room suddenly gits populated by Boisterous dwarves. Gorn acknowledges those around the table. "Greetings unto you, Korak, and to you Zorek. And to you, Sola. The mage Archae, you say? You have some large shoes to fill. Best get busy."
To the money-offering dwarf, "That seems a paltry sum, but for merely goblinz, consider the pact struck." He stands and stretches. "But for every creature that attacks us that is not a goblin, I eat a horse of yours. Do we leave now?"
Gorn chuckles and grins massively. He takes another pull of the wine jug.
Time to let slip our unholy warcry!

Aye. Money makes the world go 'round. I mean to make an academy to teach me brewing. Need me name to be known too.
Zoren Ekrias |
consider me in. My name is Zoren Ekrias, as you have heard from my companions. I could use a little money besides it may help me find my father italics for character thoughts, if you haven't figured that out
ULTRAGEEK |
Aye, thats great then. Right this way. He confidently strides out of the tavern and into the world outside. You see a wagon loaded to the brim with boxes and boxes of goods. The wagon is hooked up to two strong horses, who neigh and whinny with anticipation. Ye 5 follow this path, up the mountain, where it diverges into 2 paths. Make sure ye take the left path, up the mountain. Remember, town is Teraster. Good luck
Managed to find the magical substance known as Wi-Fi!
Gorn Steelbreaker |
Gorn frowns at the dwarf. "Eh? 'Good luck'? Are ye not coming with us? How shall we be paid? And do I look like a teamster to drive a brace of steeds? Who among us would you entrust your delivery to?"
Gorn is quite happy to begin the trek up the left path once the questions of payment and logistics are covered.
Korak The Boisterous |
Korak claps his fellow dwarf on the back. Aye, I'll give it to yer kin when I meet 'im.
ULTRAGEEK |
Darrann turns around, with an apologetic look on his face. Sorry me's didn't tell ye's all that. Me half-elf friend by the name of Encinall owns the trading port. Ye meet him up there, and he shall pay ye five.He should meet ye up there, with his group of hired workers, and he will hand ye five ye pay, and unload the goods. He may give ye five extra pay for killed goblins, and may offer ye five an extra job
Managed to find wi-fi yet again!
Gorn Steelbreaker |
Gron nods as the matter of pay is expounded on, but frowns as the matter of a teamster is left unanswered. He turns to Branwen. "Beseems we are left to drive the animals ourselves. Would ye be willing to take the reins for the now? If not, Sola, would you care to play the driver?"
Once someone takes the horses' reins, Gorn will start off, his great ground-eating strides keeping him ahead, in the vanguard.
ULTRAGEEK |
The way up the mountain is quite scenic. It runs along the edge, and affords a great view of the world below. There are numerous signs of goblins, but so far, none have attacked you. There are also tracks, and what appear to be marks in the dirt left by a wagon. The weather is quite gloomy. It is quite cloudy, though it has not rained yet.
A few hours into your journey, you come across a fallen wagon. It lays on it's side. The horses that lead it are dead, and appear to have their meat stripped off, so only bone is remaining. Flies buzz around, and blood makes the surrounding ground moist. Suddenly, a head pokes out from behind the wagon. It looks like a mutated goblin Like a cross between a goblin and a duros Blood and gore run down it's mouth and onto the ground. It's eyes widen as it notices you.
Created the lore for my world. Check it out in the campaign description
Gorn Steelbreaker |
Gorn moves so he is between the wagon and the goblin-reaver-zombie thing.
"Someone wanna try talkin' to it, or should I jus' make squishy?"
Readied action: Attack on approach
Gorn Steelbreaker |
One. Meh. Good thing I'm readied then! Hey, please tell me we're doing this in block-order yeah? As in, the order now looks: all of party except Gorn. Then Goblin. Then Gorn. That's the way I think most PbPs run it so we're not waiting for a particular order. Jus' sayin'. =)

Mutated Goblin-thingy
Gorn(readied action)
The mutated creature, leaps over the wagon. It's body looks that of a goblin, but from his hand reach extremely long clawsFor the purposes of range, that of a dagger Blood drips from those also.
Since Zoren is in front of Gorn in the init count, does he go first for the readied action? Or is it Gorn?

I guess we are doing it in block-order. Unless you guys are used to just doing it in no particular order.
Sola Nym |
The tiny girl calmly stares at the goblinoid, eyes briefly glowing will red sigils. She draws a thin black rapier and attacks. An odd gleam of joy in her eye.
Swift action to activate hypnotic stare ability goblin takes a -2 to will saves, upon successful attack my painful stare ability activates giving me +1 damage. followed by a move and attack action,
Attack: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (18) + 4 = 22
damage: 1d4 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 2 = 5
Critical Confirmation: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (3) + 4 = 7
total damage if critical hits =10
Gorn Steelbreaker |
Wait, what? 1) Yes, for the first phase of init, the whole party goes, in no particular order. When they're done, the goblin goes, then Gorn. I think we're both saying that. =) 2) The readied action only goes off if the conditions are met. If he moves next to Gorn, he gets smacked, otherwise Gorn does nothing until his init. For Zoren...well, he had a readied action with a bow, so that's your call if he gets it or not. I'm assuming the goblin doesn't actually approach Gorn, which means I don't take the readied action. Unless you say otherwise. 3) Is there a combat map? I like roll20, or we can just do this:
M= Mutant goblin #= wagon
....

We're doing the best kind of initiative, which is Block. If you're in the block of action that goes before the bad guys, just go. It's faster and works well for PbP. If you can only post at 8am and your attack would kill the bad guys, then we don't need to wait for someone else who goes before you, but can only post at 5pm. This of course might not be applicable 100% of the time, but for most combats it works well. =) Edit: Sola seems to be hiding just behind my shoulder, ready to ninja my every move like the Grandmaster she is. ^_^

Block initiative is what we will use :) Here is the map You will have to login to your google drive and connect Beyond Tabletop, do not worry, it is free and safe.
Sola's stare works, and the goblin winces in pain. As the rapier shoots at the goblin, it tries to block the weapon with it's claw, but it overshoots, and the goblin-mutant-thingy gets hit in the arm. It bends over in pain.
Zoren, i'm sorry, but that doesn't count as a apporach
