The goblin, far too focused on maneuvering his mount, is unable to muster the concentration necessary to fight off Edlethron's spell. He suddenly becomes instantly fascinated with examining the crude leather reigns clutched in his hands, a concentration which is only mildly interrupted when Edlethron cuts his arm off. He makes a gurgling noise and looks up curiously as the onslaught of armed warriors begins to encircle him. Something not right here, his spell-addled mind thinks. Me supposed to crushing human weaklings... As his vision blurs, he feebly wonders why his left arm seems to be numb.

Dazed and staggered. This guy is not having a good day.

One on-foot goblin (uninjured and about to be un-dazed), one dazed and mounted goblin, and one confused but angry goblin dog remain. Alphonse's turn is next, then the goblins' turn.

FYI Edlethron dazed the rider, then attacked the previously dazed goblin that everyone abandoned to face the rider. I specified squares. Cheers

Oops! None of my last post happened then. The other goblin is dead and the rider was dazed.

Alphonse walks swiftly over to check on the man, his eyes open for additional goblins.
The fecundity of goblins never ceases to amaze me. They seemed to be completely unable to do anything without having their population decimated, and yet next week they are back to the same old games.

The goblin is still under Edlethron's sway, and does nothing. His mount, however, snaps at Dolgrin, feeling threatened by the dwarf's swing against it earlier.

Bite: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 2 = 3

It just manages to snap threateningly in his direction, however.

Ok. Everyone can act at once now. Probably just one round left in this goblin's short, ill-fated existence.

Dolgrin tries to bash the rider out of his seat, but only manages to flail his hammer at the mounted goblin wildly.

Lacuna steps around the goblin and mount and tries to hit the mount this time since the rider is out of commission for the moment.
Attack: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (7) + 6 = 13
Damage: 1d3 + 6 ⇒ (2) + 6 = 8 nonlethal

The foul goblin "dog" takes the full force of Lacuna's blow and somehow manages to remain standing, though it's clear another hit will bring it down.

Alphonse, Edlethron, and Sejanus are next.

Sorry for the delay. It wasn't obvious to me that it was my turn again.

Round 4

Edlethron circles around the rider to flank with his dwarven friend. He sweeps his humming, blue-glowing cold iron longsword down from a high guard position into the hide of the mount.

Seething with rage at both the strange magic and the slaying of its beast, the goblin lurches towards Edlethron, trying to gore him on the long blade. The elf dodges away from the jabbing strike.

Lacuna's blow lashes across the creature's back, and the combined assault of the group pummels it to the ground, dead.

Seeing the last of the goblins fall, Lacuna drops her whip and moves directly toward Sejanus. She grabs the man by the collar with both hands, pulls his face down to her level, and asks rhetorically, "A Calistrian what?" There is a daring fire in her eyes that shows she means business.

"Easy, lass," Dolgrin says, his eyes scanning the area from beneath his helm, "'Is may nay be o'er. An' thar's a chance tha' nay e'ryone came ou' o' 'is as well as we 'ave."

Sejanus is puzzled for a moment, then remembers his exclamation prior to combat. "Oh, I'm sorry." He then raises his voice and over-pronunciates every syllable, as though Lacuna were hard of hearing."I SAID, "WELL I'LL BE A CA-LIS-TRI-AN WHOOOOOORE. WHORE."

Sejanus easily dodges the kick aimed at his crotch and Lacuna's foot only catches air. He smiles roguishly. "This ain't my first time to the rodeo, Cupcake. Now if you don't mind, let's make sure there aren't any more goblins starting trouble. You can flirt with me later, if we have time."

Please don't roll initiative for other players, Sejanus. That's not acceptable, especially since you can choose which of your rolls you assign Sejanus's name to. Look, in the interest of ending this here, which it has to, Lacuna hits Sejanus but doesn't get his crotch. Now, end the fight - this was a bad idea.

Sorry! I was having fun. :(

The young nobleman cowering behind the water barrel pops his head up over it as Alphonse approaches and the last of the goblins falls to the ground. "Are they gone?!" he asks frantically, looking around at the victorious warriors. "Thank all the gods! I thought I was a goner." His eyes fall on Lacuna, watching her tirade with something akin to awe. "My lady! Your combat prowess is outstanding... and your beauty exceeds even your heroism. You have saved my life and earned my gratitude... and admiration." He bows deeply before her. "I am Aldern Foxglove. It is my great honor to make the acquaintance of someone so beautiful. Might I beg of you your name?" His eyes gaze upon her, clearly captivated by her every move.

Edlethron arches an eyebrow at the sparring human and half-human. Has she taken his euphemism as a personal insult? She must be quite sensitive, even if she worships Calistria as I do. He did specify a Calistrian whore, which implies that all whores are not Calistrian. And he wants to be one, so he wouldn't reasonably say that he wants to be something that he doesn't want to be. They're odd.

He focuses on his cold iron longsword and withdraws the arcane energy from it. The magical blue glow and humming collapses against the hilt. He keeps his longsword in hand just in case.

Edlethron smiles at his dwarven friend and nods to him then the others who followed them from the festival, "Well fought. Goblins are little more than vermin. I wonder what brought them into town. This attack is fairly brazen for them."

Several of the goblins still live, though battered and whipped into unconsciousness, if Edlethron or Alphonse wish to indulge their curiosity about the suspiciousness of the attack.

Lacuna sighs and drops her guard. "I can agree to that." No sooner had she said this than a noble pops out from behind a barrel offering her honeyed words. She perks up at this, as if all her fury only moments before had fluttered away. Her adrenaline disappears, and she responds by heading over to the barrel and placing her elbows on the rim with her knuckles on her chin so that she is face-to-face with the noble only inches apart. "Lacuna Trost. Do go on, Mr. Foxglove."

The attractive young man's face lights up at Lacuna's response, not even remotely put off by Lacuna's omission of the proper title Lord Foxglove. "The stars have blessed my life this day that I would be saved by such an avenging angel as yourself! I am in your debt, as surely as the sun and moon encircle the sky, and as deeply as the mighty sea do I owe my thanks to you." He waxes poetic in this manner for some time, before finally sighing in contentment, his eyes not leaving Lacuna's face for a moment. "Alas, I must retire to my lodgings at the Rusty Dragon. When you all are able, please visit me there. I wish to reward each of you for your heroism!" His gaze lingers upon Lacuna, as though loathe to leave her. "Farewell, fairest of beauties. I hope that you will deign to return to see this humble admirer once more!" He finally departs, blowing a kiss in her direction.

Around town, the sounds of combat seem to have faded. The goblins have been driven off or slain, but several unconscious ones still remain nearby. The others can choose to investigate or do something else while Lacuna gobbles up compliments the same way she earlier gobbled up pastries.

"One one hand," Sejanus holds out a hand as thought weighing something, "I always appreciate a reward. On the other, Lacuna might have to start picking out wedding invitations if we meet with him again."

"Does anyone want to survey the battlefield with me to investigate why these goblins attacked?" the elf asks the group.

Dolgrin puts his gauntlet clad hand over his face when Lacuna and Sejanus start having their spat, and cares little for the praise being lauded on them from this Lord Foxglove. The man was clearly a coward and earned his title through inheritance, not deed.

"Sure thing, lad. Ah'll put Thunderer through their skulls if'n they still be breathin'."

"Lad? Is that term of friendship or age? Because I probably have twice your years on Golarion, Dolgrin." Edlethron replies Sheldon-like as he starts to investigate why the goblins attacked the town today.

Ugh. Elves and their damned pride in their longevity.

"Ah suppose ah could call ye 'Gramps' if'n ye'd prefer. An' I reckon it's more o' a term o' yer gender 'an anythin' else."

As they moved about the town making sure it was all clear, Dolgrin quickly realized that he would likely have to wait to talk to the Sheriff and the Mayor about Kordin. This attack would probably have them both too busy now to deal with him.

Walking through town witnessing the chaos of the goblin attack, Edlethron continues to dispassionately converse with his dwarven companion, "Gramps? Isn't that a diminutive form of grandfather? But I don't even have any progeny? Oh!" Edlethron realizes and pauses.

"That's a term of old age, because I am significantly older than you. As I said before, you may call me Edlethron. However, if you need a monosyllabic term to address me, why not use Ed or Thron?"

"I think we should rendezvous with the town guard and see if they know of any hot-spots that still need addressing. Then we can do some investigating with townsfolk to see who saw where and when they entered. Then we need to figure out if this was just a raid, or if they were trying to find something in particular. After a good night's sleep and some grub, we can visit Lord Foxglove and see what he is offering for a reward."

I agree with Sejanus on this. Before I see about collecting any rewards I want to make sure this threat has been dealt with."Alphonse wipes from his blade before sheathing it. "I haven't forgotten my business with the sheriff. Although I am never above a quick break to mock the elderly."

By now, Sandpoint’s overall battle against the goblins has been decided. Surviving goblins flee north in droves, in some cases preferring to leap to their certain deaths off the cliff at Junker’s Edge rather than be captured. Several of the little menaces are caught alive, but they prove useless when interrogated; none of these goblins know much more than that they were given orders to kill everyone in town and burn down the place. None of the captured goblins can even remember their leader’s name, apart from the fact that he was one of “you longshanks.” Their leader was on a secret mission to the town’s graveyard—that much most goblins can say, but none of them know what that mission was. It was secret, after all!

In the shadow of the goblin attack, Sandpoint is hardly interested in finishing up the Swallowtail Festival— citizens retreat to their homes to hide and recover from the day’s horrors, yet as they go, several of those who witnessed your actions take the time to thank you for saving them. It's clear that several people might not have lived if you hadn't been present, Aldern Foxglove among their number.

One of these is an attractive Minkaian woman several of you recognize - Ameiko Kaijitsu, proprietor of the Rusty Dragon inn. "I saw what you did during the raid," she says with a smile (each of you likely caught a glimpse of her holding her own in combat with goblins herself earlier). "You saved a lot of lives - Father Zantus might have been one of the fallen if you hadn't been there when they attacked. If you're staying in town, it'd be my pleasure to offer each of you free rooms all week at the Rusty Dragon." By this time, it is getting rather late, and the sun has long since set over the shoreline.

Dolgrin bows his head to the woman as she expresses her gratitude. "Wasn' nothin', lass. An' as a ma'er o' fact, ah think me gear is already a' yer tavern. Ah thank ye fer yer 'ospitality. Ah do 'ave a question, though. 'Ow 'ard is it ta get a meetin' wit' yer town's sheriff an' mayor? Ah 'ave somethin' ah need ta talk ta them abou'."

Edlethron graciously thanks Ameiko Kaijitsu for her gratitude. He sits next to his dwarven friend wondering if the whole naming episode has passed them.

He is concerned about his urgency to see the sheriff and mayor. He hopes the brother can be found, so he decides to postpone his trip to Magnimar.

Ameiko smiles. "They're approachable enough. I suspect they'll have quite a bit on their hands after the raid, especially the sheriff, but I'm sure they'll want to thank you for your help as well. None of you owed us anything, and you helped us like you were defending hearth and home." She gives the entire group an approving look. "I'm pleased to see there's still those with the spirit to fight where others can't."

"We're happy to have a home and neighbors worth defending." Sejanus smiles a wry smile at Ameiko. "Besides, with such a lovely hostess, how could we refuse to defend such hospitality?"

"I'm aware that goblins are know for three things: Their stupidity, their poor manners, and most notably their ubiquitous nature. Still I am wondering if this is a problem you encounter frequently?" Alphonse rubs his stubble thoughtfully. If goblins are the worst this town has to offer I have officially gone from ace detective to overqualified pest-control. I shall be sure to include this in my memoir as "The Case of the Giggling Reprobates" or possibly release a guide "How to Beat Up Toddlers: An essential guide to fighting goblins"

Dolgrin nods, "Ah figgered as much. Ah reckon' ah'll give 'em time ta figger out the damage 'afore ah go an' bother 'em wit' me personal business."

Dolgrin rolls his eyes and grins at the blatant pass Sejanus made towards Ameiko. Humans. Always thinking with their loins first, hearts second, and their brains last! HA! Gotta love 'em!

At Alphonse's remark, Dolgrin replies, "Aye, lad. They be stupid. But don' let tha' trick ye inta underestimatin' 'em! Gobbins are still dangerous enough despite their lack o' strategy. Their all out love o' violence can more 'an make up fer what they lack inside them fluffed up noggins o' theirs!"

"I always find it peculiar, how a love of violence can be either a mark of abject villainy or heroism depending on which end of the sword you happen to be." Alphonse looks into the sky pensively before cracking a wide grin. "Still as long as my body retains its contents, I really can't complain"

"There is more to goblins than a love of violence. Among of other things, they have a cultural lack of organization. Therefore, the fact of this relatively organized attack against a town is significantly against their nature. Whether the organizing force is a non-goblin as we heard or not, organized goblins are much more dangerous." Edlethron offers the conversation and then returns to surveying the room as a scientist and his laboratory.

At this late hour, it seems that the best time to meet with anyone in town, or investigate anything else in the town, will come in the morning. Ameiko heads off to help get the tavern in order, and though the night watch is doubled in case of any more threats (and to search for any goblins who might have been overlooked), the rest of the town is glad to head to a comfortable bed and let the events of the day begin to fade into memory.

Male Human Investigator (Sleuth) 1 HP: 10/10 AC: 15 Rapier +2 1d6 Fort +2 Ref +4 Will +2 Init +4 Per +4

Alphonse makes his way to the tavern Edletron's words echoing in his head. He had come to a similar conclusion himself, but the why was what bothered him.
You cant find anymore imprecise an instrument than an organism with independent will. In this case that will is governed largely by base urges and seemingly racial pyromania. Not to mention that the force was too small to accomplish any significant damage, a simple act of distraction. Forcing the deduction that all of our acts of heroism were little more than the spastic undulations of puppets rapidly chasing their own strings.

Male Human Kineticist (Fire) 3 -- HP 42 : AC 16 CMD 14 TAC 13 FAC 14 : kinetic blast +6 (touch), 2d6+2 : F+9 R+6 W+5 : INIT+8 Perc+8 CMB+2

"Goblins are dumber than a sack of doorknobs. Not even ornate, gilded doorknobs - just ugly little brass doorknobs. You can bet some other creature, this 'longshanks,' is behind this little escapade."

As the group returns to the Rusty Dragon, they're greeted with a tired round of cheers from those still awake in the common room. Several patrons of the inn wish to shake the heroes' hands or express their thanks, before a smiling Ameiko convinces the throng to let them pass and go to their rooms.

In the morning, the sun has risen on a bright new day for the town, and spirits are higher than ever. Descending into the common room reveals that the growing crowd has more than tripled in size, including at least a few townsfolk who seem to have visited the tavern just to catch a glimpse of the heroes. Drinks are pressed into your hands, and everyone seems to wish to celebrate the victory over the goblin "invasion," which, according to the tales already beginning to fly, sounds like it was at least large enough to have sacked Absalom, and that likely hundreds of the foul beasts met their end at the five heroes' hands alone.
