As the sun's first rays peak over the horizon, the town of Sandpoint slowly begins to wake. A typically peaceful shoreside settlement in southern Varisia, the town is finally shaking off the painful memories of the "Late Unpleasantness," a rash of serial killings by a well-liked man and the tragic fire in the Sandpoint Chapel which claimed the life of a local priest and his daughter.

Today the town of Sandpoint celebrates the consecration of a new cathedral, built over the ruins of the fallen chapel. Dedicated to the six gods Abadar, Desna, Erastil, Gozreh, Sarenrae, and Shelyn, the chapel is a symbol that the town is healing, and has moved on beyond its painful past. The Swallowtail Festival is today, commemorating this grand accomplishment, and as five unlikely champions awaken, they are blissfully unaware of how this day will change their lives - and perhaps the fate of the entire world - as a result.

Edlethron quietly finishes his breakfast after the loud local elf left with the human female. Even the two boisterous dwarves followed them out, which returned the Rusty Dragon Inn to the soft hum of casual conversation and clattering dishes.

When settling his account with the innkeeper, he confirms his room for this evening and directions to Vin Vinder’s general store. So when the elf leaves the inn, he travels directly to the store where he cashes out his pelts for coin. The transaction proves relatively easy, because Vin Vader had several customers for the furs already in the store. With a heavy coin purse tucked inside his shirt, Edlethron leaves the store to investigate the new cathedral and participate in the festival. When in Absalom... he thinks to himself with a smile.

Arriving near the cathedral, Edlethron appears at first glance as a common human trapper. Many layers of furred garments thickens his torso and limbs disguising pale skin and a lean, muscular frame. Silhouettes of a full backpack and a longsword scabbard can be noticed beneath his voluminous patchwork fur cloak. He wears a wide-brimmed, leather hat that shades his obviously elven features of pointed ears, squinting eyes with overly large indigo irises, and unusually straight white hair.

Dolgrin continued to fume as he made his way, rather blindly, to the cathedral and festival grounds. His first inclination was to examine the building that was the cause for the celebrations. It appeared well made, at least for human standards.

At least they had enough sense to build it out of stone.

He wondered if Torag was represented in any way inside, but decided any inquiries in those regards would have to wait. He was hoping to find this "SheriffHemlock" and "Mayor Deverin" that had written him the letter that set him on this journey. Of course, they would likely be too busy to see him today, but he was a patient dwarf. He could wait.

Sejanus finished his morning tea at the Rusty Dragon and stepped out into the streeet. He was a well-groomed man, cleanly shaven with short-cropped gray hair premature for his age. His eyes are an icy blue, with flecks of silver near the iris. His skin taut against his frame, with an angular face and stern looks. He is dressed in studded leather armor, with a green cloak. He carried a light crossbow at his hip and a dagger on his belt. He is medium-height, with a lanky frame and straight posture. Despite spending most of his time patrolling the hinterlands surrounding Sandpoint, he made a point of cleaning himself whenever he had the chance.

Yesterday he returned from a circuit of nearby farms, and was looking forward to the Swallowtail festival to begin. It was sometimes difficult for the militiaman to relax, and he compromised by patrolling the crowd. He could say hello to townsfolk, sample a few of the delicious fare, and still keep an eye out for trouble.

Alphonse was excited, it wasn’t everyday he was on the trail of a serial killer. While on the outside he looked calm and collected; on the inside his thoughts were a happy blur. Those that knew him found his hobbies a bit macabre but the sheer love of mystery helped keep the horrors of the world at bay.
The nights sleep at the rusty dragon had done little to improve the soreness in his limbs, but he still rose with the sun and quickly grabbed a meager breakfast. The festival itself did not interest him much. Hopefully, he would be able to get a lay of the land from the celebrating crowd.
As he excited the inn Alphonse’s eyes immediately rebelled at the sight of the bright sun, it was at this point he remembered that he did his best work in the cover of darkness. At this rate I will end up a vampire for conveniences sake. The whole seeing in darkness thing would come in handy, and chatting rats would be the best conversation I have had since Ustalav.

Late to the party, as usual, Lacuna was awakened by the sounds of the festivities already in progress. She yawned, groaned, and glared at the sunlight now beaming through the window of her room at the inn. "Too early, go away..." she mumbled to the sun as she wiped her eyes clear.

She stretched and begrudgingly pulled herself from the bed, then proceeded to suit up. It would seem silly to wear armor to a party, but Calistria's teachings echoed in her mind as a reminder. 'Live on to sting another day.' She certainly would not be caught unprepared, even on a day of rejoicing.

Though Lacuna had only been in Sandpoint for a month since being exiled from her homeland in the Mierani Forest, she quickly found a warm reception among the people of Sandpoint. At first she had no intention of participating in any festivities, but it didn't take long for her to become sociable with the inhabitants of her new home. She had yet to find a permanent residence in the town, but the owners of the Rusty Dragon were happy to put her up for a nominal fee.

Stumbling downstairs in a sleepy stupor, Lacuna waved a lazy goodbye to those still in the tavern and wandered out into the bright outdoors. She shielded her eyes from the sun until they adjusted and scoffed, "It's as if the gods are finally smiling down upon this broken little town."

As the town makes its collective way out of bed and to the fairgrounds, the brisk autumn weather is warmed by the rising sun in a cloudless sky, making for a beautiful day. The Swallowtail Festival begins promptly, as scheduled, on the Autumnal Equinox. The square before the church quickly becomes crowded as locals and travelers arrive, and several merchant tents featuring food, clothes, local crafts, and souvenirs are there to meet them.

The turnout for the opening speeches is quite respectable, and the four keynote speakers each deliver short but well-received welcomes to the festival.

Mayor Deverin’s friendly attitude and excitement prove contagious as she welcomes visitors to town and jokes about how even Larz Rovanky, the local tanner (and notorious workaholic) managed to tear himself away from the tannery to attend, much to everyone’s amusement (except Larz’s).

Sheriff Belor Hemlock brings the crowd down a bit with his dour mood, his reminder to be safe around the evening’s bonfire, and his request for a moment of silence to remember those who lost their lives in the fire that claimed the town’s previous church several years ago.

The next speaker is scheduled to be local nobleman Lonjiku Kaijitsu, but a sudden illness has prevented him from attending the ceremony.

Sandpoint’s own showman Cyrdak Drokkus is more than up to the challenge of bringing the crowd’s mood back up with his rousing anecdotes. He delivers a not-completely-irreverent recap of the long process the town went through to finance and construct the new cathedral. He throws in a bit of self-promotion at the end, as is his wont, inviting everyone to stop by the Sandpoint Theater the following evening to check out his new production of “The Harpy’s Curse,” revealing that the lead role of Avisera the harpy queen will be played by none other than the famous Magnimarian diva Allishanda!

Finally, Father Zantus steps up to give a short speech thanking everyone for coming before declaring the Swallowtail Festival underway.

At noon, Father Zantus and his acolytes wheel a large covered wagon into the square, and after recounting the short parable of how Desna first fell to earth and was nursed back to health by a blind child whom she transformed into an immortal butterfly as a reward for her aid, they pull aside the wagon’s cover, releasing the thousand children of Desna—a furious storm of swallowtail butterflies that swarm into the air in a spiraling riot of color to a great cheer from the crowd. Throughout the rest of the day, children futilely chase butterflies, never quite quick enough to catch them.

-

Numerous games and contests take place during the day, including sack races, games of hide-and-seek, weight-lifting challenges, balance beam contests, tug-of-war events, and the like. Winners of these games generally win nothing more than bragging rights for the rest of the day, but for many of Sandpoint’s residents, this is a fine prize indeed!

The Swallowtail Games:

Catch the Greased Pig & Guess the Pickled Onions
Corners of Junker’s Way and Shell Street, just west of the Market Square.
A pig is let loose in a large muddy pen, smeared liberally with fat. It's kind of a free for all, with four participants trying to grapple the piglet. The local farmers running this also have a jar of pickled onions to be won by the person that guesses correctly.
To catch the greased pig, you'll have to successfully pin the pig with a grapple check. Be careful though! It gets a bonus to its escape artist checks because of the grease.
To guess which jar contains the onions, you'll need to make a successful perception check. If you have scent, you succeed automatically.

The Devil Hunt
Do you have what it takes to bring down the infamous Sandpoint Devil and keep him from menacing the surrounding area? Take a shot and see.
This is an archery range setup on the beach down by the Lighthouse. Run by Jodar Provolost, an older balding Varisian with black hair, a big thick black mustache, and a noticeable big belly.
Archers make three ranged attack rolls with an ordinary shortbow. A critical hit is an automatic bullseye.

Dragon Races
There's been talk of starting Dragon farming in Sandpoint, so we've gotta find out which ones are the fastest so that we have the best dragons! Pick yourself a dragon and pit it in a Dragon Race against your friends.
This game is located in the Sandpoint Market Square on the south side by the docks just at the beginning of Market Street. It is basically a lizard race. It is being run by Gressel Tenniwar (manager of Fatman’s Feedbag).
This is a handle animal or knowledge (nature) check to pick the best lizard.

The Goblin Toss
Three Goblins have found their way into your house and are tearing the place up! Grab them and toss them into the fireplace before they can destroy everything.
This game is a simple bean bag toss setup in the middle of the Sandpoint Market square and run by Daverin Hosk of Goblin Squash Stables.
Three ranged attack rolls with an improvised weapon.

The Lighthouse Smash
Who needs a lighthouse without a light? The old Lighthouse has become an eyesore; let's knock it down so we can use the stone to build something new.
This game is set up at the end of Junker's Way next to the Lighthouse. It has a table with six square stones stacked on it in a pyramid shape. Your job is to knock them down. Run by Aesrick Battlehorn (Carpenter’s Gildmaster), whose mini catapults for this game are works of art.
Disable Device or Knowledge (Engineering) can replace an attack roll here. Otherwise it's a ranged attack with a -4 penalty.

Magic Show
The little gnome, Vernutt Parooh, has drawn a small crowd to the front of The Way North (north of the market) with some minor illusions.

Ogre Stomp
“Step on up, boys! No girl likes a noodle-armed weakling. Let’s see your strength!”
The staple game of every good carnival: a strength tester involving smashing a hammer on one end of a log on a pivot to spring the wood at the other end up a shoot to ring the bells. Set up on west side of the market and run by Das Korvut, the mutton-chop-sporting drunken smith of the Red Dog Smithy.
Strength check. Nothing fancy here.

Pasty Eating Competition
The Avertin family of Sandpoint Savouries are running this stall in the market square.
Opposed constitution check.

Unders & Overs
A gambling game set up in the market square. The table is divided into three sections: Unders, 7’s, Overs. Punters place money onto the section they wish to bet on. Run by Banny Harker (operator of the Lumber Mill).
Profession (Gambler) all the way. Barring that, dumb luck.

You may participate in one or more of these contests if you like. You may also feel free to make diplomacy checks to gather any information you might be curious about, or whatever else you'd like to get up to at the festival.

Dolgrin stands by and listens to the various speeches, taking note of who exactly the Mayor and Sheriff were, so that he could seek them out after the festivities.

After the release of the butterflies, Dolgrin resumed his casual meandering through the crowd. Eventually he passes by the lighthouse game. Though he doesn't get the reference to the "Old Light," he does recognize the weak point in the stacked stones.

He makes his way over to the table and takes a try at it.

He then catches wind of something delicious on the air. He manages to find his way to the pastry eating competition, and it catches his interest.

He makes his way to the contest table to take part, though he only managed to eat a couple before having to give up. He had munched and snacked on things all day long, and was just too full to give it a serious go.

Edlethron examines the festival for hints of Thassilonian roots. He listens to the speakers and surveys the crowd walking around the festivities. At several of the games, he plays in order to examine the reaction of the crowd to himself after the game.

The Devil Hunt
Edlethron really does not do his elders proud. He misses the target twice of three shots. His Elvishness gets heckled, but he takes no account of it.

Magic Show
Edlethron stands behind the crowd and smiles at the little gnome, Vernutt Parooh. He then proceeds to enhance all of the tricks with light, sound, and smoke effects using his own Prestidigitation, carefully to avoid drawing any attention to himself.

Ogre Stomp
His strike is poor and attracts heckling as a weakling elf, which he smiles in reply.

Alphonse listens attentively to the speeches, the Sheriff's speech in particular catches his attention. After the speeches end Alphonse makes sure to acquire a large cup of mead. Affecting a slight flush and doing his best bit of faux drunken exuberance, Alphonse will begin making conversation with just about everyone.
After finding the most talkative of the festival goers he will shift conversation to the "Late Unpleasantness".
Diplomacy: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (9) + 6 = 15
Inspiration: 1d6 ⇒ 3
During the course of the festivities he helps himself to some of the festival games. Telling himself that this is all part of his cover, Alphonse finds himself swept along with the jovial mood. Soon enough he is boasting and engaging in friendly ribbing with the best of them.
The Devil Hunt
Never considering himself a ranged combatant; Alphonse is surprised by his round of good fortune.
ranged shortbow 1: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (14) + 2 = 16
ranged shortbow 2: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (13) + 2 = 15
ranged shortbow 3: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (11) + 2 = 13
The Lighthouse Smash
Shattering the lighthouse with a well placed toss, Alphonse will jump with excitement despite himself. After taking a moment to regain his composure he will set aside what little mead remains. Eyeing it suspiciously.
Disable Device: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (16) + 6 = 22

Taking his leave of the crowd, Alphonse will begin searching for the Sheriff. Ignoring further distraction, Alphonse sets off to get the inside track on everything 'unpleasant'in Sandpoint.

During the game involving the lighthouse, Dolgrin notices an elf that looked familiar for some reason take a try at it. He does well, but aimed at the wrong section of the stone.

"Well done, lad. Though, ye shoulda aimed fer tha one right," Dolgrin pauses as he lines up his shot and lets it fly, doing marginally better than the Elf, before finishing, "thar."

He then sees another stack of the stones go tumbling down, clearly the best of the shots the dwarf had seen yet. He turns and regards the human who took the shot, a scarred man with plenty of stubble.

"Jus' like tha! Good shot. Either ye go' an eye fer structural integri'y, or ye are good a' takin' advice!"

He gets flustered for a brief moment, then says, "Where're me manners! Me name is Dolgrin. Dolgrin Girndmar o' Highhelm."

He can't help but cast a wary eye towards the elf, hoping that this one had better manners than the last one he had encountered today.

Ah. One of those noisy dwarves from the inn, flashes across Edlethron's mind while his long, pointed ears instinctively flatten a touch. "Well met, Dolgrin Girndmar o' Highhelm. You may call me Edlethron. You did well in the lighthouse game. What brings you to the Swallowtail Festival?" His eyes continue to squint at the dwarf, and it becomes clear that the bright sunlight bothers this elf as much as orcs.

Edlethron notes the mood change about the dwarven brother and shrugs, "Actually, just passing through. But the festival is a nice diversion."

Alphonse's Gather Information:
The townsfolk seem put out a bit that someone wants to bring up the Late Unpleasantness now, of all times, but the Ustalavic investigator's way with words gets a few folks to chime in with their thoughts on the matter.

One pot-bellied man points to a hacked-up fencepost nearby. "Ye seen that? Chances are ye'll see 'em all over town. Used to have a lovely carvin' of a songbird there, but we hacked 'em all up when we realized what ol' Jervis Stoot had been doing. Nobody woulda thought it of him... nicest bloke ye'd ever met. All he wanted to do was carve birds, he said. 'Set 'em free in the wood.' He used to live out on the Ol' Light, 'til Sheriff Hemlock found 'im out there, all cut up and dead with 'is victims."

A white-haired woman tending a stall, selling small trinkets to festival-goers frowns at the question. "It's not natural, what he'd done! He was the nicest young man, always just wanted to do his art. Nobody thought twice when he wanted to live out there near that old lighthouse, just said he wanted to see the birds he cared so much about. And when they caught him, we all thought Sandpoint'd had enough hardship and heartbreak, but wouldn't you know it, just a month later we had that terrible fire down at the old chapel. Poor Father Tobyn and his lovely daughter Nualia died that night." She brushes off her hands as though clearing away old memories. "But that's what this festival's all about. We've been through a lot but we're still here. Sandpoint's on the mend, mark my words." She smiles at the thought of the small town turning a new leaf.

The eyes of the crowd grow wider and wider as Lacuna wolfs down the delicious pastries one after another. When the last pie is devoured, a short moment of silence precedes a surge of applause and cheers, the other contestants chuckling good-naturedly as they're shown up by the seemingly dainty half-elf. The noise is easily audible to those in the nearby conversation with the foreigners.

Dolgrin sighed, hoping to avoid talking in length about Kordin until he knew the details, but he did not want to be rude like the point ear he had met earlier.

"Me brother, Kordin, left Highhelm years ago ta go adventurin'. 'Adn't 'eared word from 'im fer a while. Then, ah get me a letter a' me forge, sayin' me brother 'ad died, no details. Lacuna bathes in the applause, stepping up onto the table and giving a triumphant arm pump before patting her belly and hopping off. It is then that she notices a group of strangers nearby. She hadn't been living in Sandpoint for very long, but it was long enough that she could recognize most of the faces, and these were not ones that she recognized. There was nary a foreigner but these three attending the festival, so she decides to have a go at them. When she approaches, however, the mood seems solemn, and she just barely catches Edlethron's words to Dolgrin. Not wanting to interrupt, but having already inserted herself into the circle, Lacuna waits curiously and quietly for any more details.

"'If you're not prepared to win, then prepare to lose,' I always say." Lacuna grinned at the dwarf and held out her hand. "Lacuna Trost, of the Mierani Forest, more recently of Sandpoint. I'm the newest comer to this town aside from you folks, so I thought I'd welcome you in as a sort of intermediary." At Alphonse's mention of one of her unfortunate competitors, she turned to see the quarter-pork in question, which made her laugh so hard that her winning meal nearly came back up. "A good one from the last one I'd expect it from! You're not so broody as you look, eh chuckles?"

Edlethron squints so much to avoid the bright daylight that any further nonverbal focus on the half-elf is lost on anyone. Mierani Forest? I wonder where. The name doesn't sound familiar. Although, I've changed my name, too.

"Dolgrin Girndmar, o' Highhelm. Thank ye fer tha welcome. Ah 'ave ta say, it's honestly tha first polite greetin' from someone ah've received since ah've gotten 'ere. Ran inta a damned smart mouthed pointy ear when ah first got inta town 'at left a bad taste in me craw," Dolgrin says. "None taken." Edlethron replies to the dwarf without agreeing with his negative assessment of that elf.

"I try not to frown too much. As long as I am standing on daisies instead of aiding in their support, life is dandy." Alphonse continues smiling but his mind was still needling him with something he was overlooking. something is wrong, his mind kept repeating in a heightening crecendo. He had learned a long time ago to trust his instincts, it was what kept him from falling prey to the hungry nights of his homeland.
Alphonse snapped himself out of his reverie, and remembered his manners. "The name is Alphonse Judex, a tragic victim of insatiable curiosity."

As the sun begins to dip behind the buildings and sink towards the gently sloshing waves of the Sandpoint shore, the mood of the festival is one of satisfied content. Bellies are full and feet are tired from a long day's celebration, but the crowd begins to gravitate towards the town square, where the five newcomers are engaged in their conversation.

Their introductions are cut short as a sharp retort, like the crack of distant thunder, slices through the excited crowd as the sun’s setting rays paint the western sky. A stray dog that has crawled under a nearby wagon to sleep starts awake, and the buzz of two dozen conversations quickly hushes as all heads turn toward the central podium, where a beaming Father Zantus has taken the stage, having dropped a thunderstone to draw attention. He clears his throat, takes a breath to speak, and suddenly a woman’s scream slices through the air.

A few moments later, another scream rises, then another. Beyond them, a sudden surge of strange new voices rises—high-pitched, tittering shrieks that sound not quite human. The crowd parts and something low to the ground races by, giggling with disturbing glee as the stray dog gives a pained yelp and then collapses with a gurgle, its throat cut open from ear to ear. As blood pools around its head, the raucous sound of a strange song begins, chanted from shrill, scratchy voices which echo from somewhere else in the town.

Goblins chew and goblins bite!
Goblins cut and goblins fight!
Stab the dog and cut the horse,
Goblins eat and take by force!

Goblins race and goblins jump
Goblins slash and goblins bump.
Burn the skin and mash the head,
Goblins here and you be DEAD!

Chase the baby, catch the pup.
Bonk the head to shut it up.
Bones be cracked, flesh be stewed,
We be Goblins! You be FOOD!

The shape that raced by and killed the dog now hides at the wagon’s edge—a single goblin, licking the blood from its jagged sword as it looks excitedly at the crowd, seeking out a new target.

Initiative will work in three phases - monster initiatives will be averaged. First, all players who beat the monsters' initiative will go, then the monsters, then all players who didn't beat the monsters. If you want to delay, you may indicate that in your post.

The goblins cackle in sadistic glee, watching the panicked townsfolk run about. The goblin which slew the dog takes a swipe at the crowd, howling with delight as it draws blood. One of them clambers up the side of the wagon Climb Check: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (8) + 1 = 9, licking its lips as it shakes its rusty blade at those down below. The other advances towards the podium menacingly, hooting with glee at the terror that has erupted in the square.

The crowd is difficult terrain, but otherwise does not impede line of sight or provide cover. The goblins' turn is over - Alphonse, Dolgrin, Lacuna, Sejanus, and Edlethron... you're up.

Especially since range and firing into melee is important for me, a map would be great.

Round 1

Goblins! Edlethron instinctively draws his longsword in his right gauntlet and strand of wool from his spell component pouch in his left. He points toward 'the goblin which slew the dog' (assuming his is within 30 feet) and shouts, "Daro, orch!" The arcane power fails to daze the goblin but succeeds in gaining its attention.

I assume you will move closer to get the goblin in range. I've moved you in place for the spellcasting.

The goblin's eyes seem to cross suddenly, fixated on something invisible as the spell washes over it. It wobbles in place, clearly too distracted to do anything but stumble around a bit.

"Goblins? Here!? Well I'll be a Calistrian whore! What are they doing wandering around town!?" Sejanus slings his crossbow around from his back as he maneuvers around the crowd [move action to G20]. 'I knew things were going too well,' Lacuna thought to herself before sighing deeply and taking in the sight of the incoming goblins. As the chaos ensued, however, she was less concerned about the goblins and more concerned about the offhand comment of the unintroduced man who was among the four of them. 'I'll make him apologize after,' she decided, and rushed into the fray with her whip in hand.

Double move to J13 and draw the whip on the way.

The crossbowman's aim is spot-on, and the bolt that whizzes past Edlethron's ear pierces the foul, green-skinned creature's eye. With a gurgling scream, it collapses back to the ground, unmoving.

Alphonse draws his rapier while dashing towards the stage. In the blink of an eye he has placed himself between the advancing goblins and Father Zantus. "Keep your head down; goblins die easy but there are always more of them."
Turning his attention to the goblins, Alphonse eyes begin to dissect the goblins finding just the right places to cut

The goblin on the cart leaps down and rushes towards Dolgrin, hopping over the fallen body of its companion. It lunges in low and fast, slashing across Dolgrin's legs with the jagged sword, its edge clattering off the dwarf's armor.

Beside the platform, the other goblin scrambles up the stairs as Father Zantus staggers backwards, shocked at the creatures' sudden appearance. The goblin eyes him hungrily before turning to swing at the approaching Lacuna, who weaves out of its path with ease despite its high-ground advantage.

Alphonse's BAB is zero, so he can't draw his weapon as a move action. It'll be a climb or acrobatics check to ascend the stage (which is 5 ft. high) - I placed him as far up as he could get while still drawing the sword.

Dolgrin smirks as the goblin fails to breech DwarvenSteel, and tries to crush it's skull with Thunderer.

Dolgrin's hammer crashes down on the goblin's head like a meteor, the dwarf rewarded with a satisfying CRACK as the skull splits beneath the hammer. Despite the force of the blow, the goblin seems about to strike once more, before Edlethron's spell disables this one, too.

Will Save: 1d20 - 1 ⇒ (1) - 1 = 0

Lacuna's lash catches the goblin directly on its wrinkled throat, crushing its windpipe. Unable to breathe and knocked bodily to the ground, the goblin falls and does not get up.

The only standing goblin is only one blow from death, so I'm going to assume you dispatch it easily. It's dead.

As these first few goblins fall, it rapidly becomes clear that Sandpoint is in chaos. Goblins race everywhere, running amok and singing and slashing indiscriminately. Nearby, a goblin takes a flying leap off a rooftop, sword raised over its head with both arms to strike an unsuspecting guard, but it misses the jump by several feet, and the sickening crunch of a snapped neck accompanies its fall. The crowd disperses in the chaos, citizens running every which way, looking for family and friends.

"Father Zantus! We have wounded!" A shout from a nearby street is heard. Father Zantus quickly glances at those around him, seeing that none are wounded, and rushes away to bring Desna's aid to those who need it.

The chaos comes to a head as a nearby wagon bursts into flame, and the source of the guttural chanting - one of them, at least - comes into view - a loudly yapping goblin accompanied by three others - carrying lit torches which they wave menacingly at each of you as they advance.

New combat.

SEJANUS, WHAT DARK GOD OF PROBABILITY DID YOU SACRIFICE A GOAT TO IN EXCHANGE FOR YOUR NATURAL 20 STREAK?!

...unfortunately, rapid shot requires a full attack (full-round action), so you only get to fire once. I'll let you keep those natural 20s for your next turn's full attack... this time only.

The crossbow bolt whizzes past the chanting goblin's head, but Sejanus levels his crossbow with practiced ease, and readies what is certain to be the perfect shot. The goblin snarls with rage, and his chant intensifies into what can only be a magical spell. The bardic chant is alien to Edlethron, who can't be sure what the magic is trying to accomplish.

Okay, the map is totally broken. It shifted downwards really far for some reason. I can view, but not edit the map at work. Can someone fix it for me? The map background should be right up in the top left corner. Also, go ahead and place the three normal goblins all around Alphonse.

The other three goblins all take swings at Alphonse with their torches, hoping to light the big human on fire. None of the wild blows connect, though.
