This I JAF0. Here's my basic build... I may tweak it a little before we begin. Obviously if we have a shared background, I will re-do whatever in my background that I need to, but I left most of it vague enough, it can accomodate just about anything.

Here's my wizard build...if anyone sees any errors or glaring omissions please let me know!
I'll have a look at character sheets over the weekend. I wouldn't mind a second set of eyes having a glance over as well, if anyone has extra time.
I'm really happy with the composition of the party. I think it feels just about perfect for this adventure.

Well known for his black mace and propensity to use it in the settlement of arguements, few willingly incite his ire. More than one large man cracking a joke at the gnome's expense has felt the smooth head of said mace on the way home from the tavern. The lout tends to be thankful for the reminder he awakens from his weapon induced slumber that the rogue chose to only teach him a lesson and not take his life.
Once one gets past these slightly violent tendencies, Gnarweiss is trusted friend and companion. More than willing to assist those whom he trust in any adventure, Banderflash has set his sites on a new quarry said to be ripe with the fruit of his hatred.

Hello, anybody there.
Yep, I'm here!
I didn't have a whole lot of time for game stuff today, had a lot of family stuff going on. I think we're on pace to get started shortly. I'm not so worried about the mechanics of your characters...at first level, I doubt there will be any major problems, maybe just a tweak to make here or there.
I would like to see some more thoughts on a shared background, however. Oterisk had a solid idea for his cleric being the catalyst for the party to come together...any more thoughts about that, anyone? Or alternative suggestions?

Oterisk's idea works for me. I can tweak my background to work with that.

I've decided that, rather than try to shoehorn this adventure into Golarion, I will set it instead in the Raging Swan setting, The Lonely Coast. There's not much you really need to know about the setting; following is a brief description.
isolated by thick forests and stormy waters.
Populated by hardy, industrious folk such a remote
place is the perfect breeding ground for heroes.
Characters growing up in the locality are probably of
hardy peasant stock determined to better their lot for
some reason. Alternatively, characters new to the Lonely
Coast could have arrived on one of the many
merchantmen coming here to procure slate and tin or to
trade for the furs and pelts gathered under the Tangled
Wood’s glowering boughs. Some visitors come in search
of adventure while others embrace the anonymity of the
frontier. Still others, tiring of civilisation’s decadence,
come to start a new life. Adventurers are normally intent
on battling the ferocious humanoids of the interior or on
uncovering the ancient ruins and hidden treasure caches
of the Old People lying forgotten in the untamed places of
the Tangled Wood.
The adventuring party has assembled in the village of Swallowfeld, a relatively quiet settlement where the folk work hard in the fields or the nearby mines. Every year, however, in the autumn, the people come together for the Harvest Festival to celebrate the year's crop. This is a time of song and dance, food and ale, and of course, traditional tests of skill and strength. Each of you, being in Swallowfeld for the Harvest Festival (whether by design or happenstance) has distinguished himself in such a way as to catch the notice of the cleric Bruden. Also, despite the merriment and revelry it is impossible not to notice the undercurrent of tension and fear in the villagers' whispers. Bandit attacks are on the rise along the roads in and out of town. There have been strange disappearances in the Tangled Wood in the vicinity of the Shadowed Keep. The time is ripe for heroes to step forward and take action.
I was going to throw you all right into the Tangled Wood, but I would be fine with you role-playing a scene at the village if you want to flesh out how the party comes together. Up to you.

Gameplay thread....I'll get it started shortly.

Bilbo - were you referring to me when you said you were watching the elf at the archery range? just curious cuz i'm the only one i read was at the archery range and Tae is human. I will respond if I'm the one you're looking at. :)

Guys, I really hate to do this right now, but I think I have to put the game on hiatus.
My mother-in-law has been battling cancer for several year, in and out of remission. Well, it looks like that battle is nearly over. She probably only has 2 or 3 weeks left to live. My wife is pretty much a wreck right now, and that's increased my family responsibilities tremendously. I'm also trying to help out her family members as best I can with arrangements. It's going to make my availability very spotty for a while, so I think it may be best just to put this on hold, and try again somewhere down the line when things settle down.
Again, sorry for putting things on hold when we'd barely gotten started. Hope you all understand.

Same here - real life always takes precedence over game... take care of your family and yourself first by all mean. My thoughts and prayers are with you. If you resume later I'm still interested of course - just message me and I'll be here. Until then...

Hi all, time for an update.
First off, I want to say a heart-felt thank you for the patience, understanding, and good thoughts that you all sent my way. That means a lot.
My mother in law passed away early in the morning of May 11th, which was much faster than anyone had expected. The wake was Monday the 14th, and the funeral was Tuesday the 15th.
Since then, we've been adjusting to the 'new normal'. Things still aren't easy by any means, especially for my wife, but things feel much more stable now. I feel like I will now be able to settle back in to running this game, if you all are still interested.
If you see this, please just give a holler and express whether you want to pick the game back up. If I don't hear from some, I'll PM you, but I thought I'd try the blanket post first.

Condolences on the passing of your MIL. That said, I'm still in!
Oterisk |
I am going to have to decline to move forward with you guys. I have run into some things personally that will take some more attention than I currently have. I really was looking forward to this, but I have already split my attention elsewhere. Since my character isn't firmly entrenched in the group as of yet, you can use him as an NPC for healing or whatnot on down the way. I wish you well in your old school campaign, and I will read up on what you guys are up to on occasion.
The March Hare |
No problem, Bilbo.
Hey everyone, I think I'm going to just go ahead and pull the plug here. To be honest, I'm just not feeling it. I'm sure it's mostly due to all the personal difficulties my family has been through, but I just don't foresee a successful game happening right now.
Thanks again for your interest and support. Good gaming to you all in the future.
