Thank you!
So about the loot the post said that we have
-a fancy bottle of perfume,
-a mangled emerald-green dress with a fancy mouchoir in one pocket,
-a morbid collection of human teeth in a porcelain jug,
-a set of false teeth made from hippo ivory,
-a bald kitten floating in cloudy vinegar within a bell jar, the kitten is impaled upon a somewhat elegantly forged crossbow bolt.
-a ceramic cow with silver horns,
-a silver cut-glass claret jug depicting the moon defecating on the sun
-a papier-mâché spectacle case with bronze-lined gargoyle filigreed reading glasses within
-a rather ghoulish papier-mâché leprechaun doll with glass eyes, moveable arms, real hair beard, and velvet gloves.
-And a bunch of mirrors, some that were broken but I assume the frames might be worth something since GM Zed said some are 'clearly worth a significant amount of money - some are plainly decorated whilst some, the largest of them, are framed with baroque depictions of nymphs in various erotic poses.'
-Also I recall a bunch of rings being mentioned.
I am intersted in figuring out if the crossbow bolt is magical but I am fine with selling everything.

I work in the UK Nuclear Sector (kind of fell into it out of university and a physics degree) and write safety assessments / analyses for a new build project in the South West... it's pretty cool and, eventually, when all the steel is forged and the concrete is poured etc, there'll be a pretty large structure (with a probable operational lifetime of around a hundred years) which I'll be able to claim some part of....

Cool! Kinda sounds like how I got my job. :D

Sounds important! I occasionally glimpse Hinkley Point news going by on the Guardian, though they are often pretty against such things. Do you have a favorite fictional depiction of radiation?

Yep, fair to say that the Guardian is probably not selling Hinkley Point t-shirts unless they're along the lines of 'Down with this Sort of Thing'!!!
...as to representations of radiation in fiction - I'll keep it to film as it's probably the best medium for showing radiological effects... and for pure fiction, I can't go past Spock's death scene in Wrath of Khan. Bring it forwards to fictionalised fact... K-19 Widowmaker is rather gruesome (and maybe rather accurate) in its portrayal of the effects of radiation #funchat!!!!

Oh, Father Ted. I was just joking about Pat Mustard yesterday.
I asked in part because I've been playing through Fallout: New Vegas again and their treatment of radiation is just silly. Fun game. Silly.

Just a heads up, I've got a lot on my plate at work this week, so I'm going to be a bit spotty this week with posting. Hopefully, I'll get on top of things and I won't have to put in 10-11 hour days next week.

I got hurt at work and the medicine that the doctor gave me has made me really foggy. I still get to work which is good for my bills. But if need be bot me cause I have no idea how functional I will be.
Dang Alexis, I remember a box fell on you a while back, is this that or a new thing? Sounds like a dangerous workplace.

I'm heading out to the Hoh Rainforest for a couple nights--back on Friday. It's a good place to feel small and young. I hope you all can see it someday.
@Alexis: I'm glad you can keep working if you need to, but I also kinda wish you could take it easy for a while. If you're not sure if you can play DnD with us, I want you away from the boxes, forklifts, pallets, etc. etc.
I know that Washington is a pretty labor-friendly state and I believe OK is not, but out here, the state will pay 50% of employee wages if they are put on light duty until they are all better. There are lots of other ways that pie gets sliced. Not that WA is perfect by any means. But I hope you're getting what you need.

@Zed, Wikipedia's favored article today is a place I used to eat my lunches, from just about where the photo was taken.
@Alexis, WOW I've only been to Pacific Northwest rainforests, Belize sounds amazing! Also this trip we decided at the last minute to go to the beach instead (just up the road from the rainforest). The foggy, cloudy, eagle-and-puffin-and-seal infested Pacific beach! It was pretty great.

So far in my life I've been to :
Mexico (Matamoros, Mexican half of Brownsville, TX) -> 4 days
London (UK) -> 3 months
Hong Kong (China, Post Restoration) -> 5 days
Singapore (LONG flight) -> 4 weeks
Kuwait (Capital City) -> 3 weeks
Calgary (Canada) -> 8 months
Enjoyed all of them, even if I was working on each trip. If anyone ever is heading to anywhere I stayed for a week or more, let me know, I can try to dredge up memories of things to see. Or at least warnings of things to avoid (like rare steak and fresh tea in Matamoros!).

@ Moira Belize was amazing. I lucked out and got to go for a school trip in college. Holwer monkeys, a small island where I ate barracuda, long hikes in the jungle. It was awesome though that was the only time I remember being out of the states. I was born in the Azores but we moved to Florida when I was two so I remember nothing of it. I want to go other places but sadly I am broke. My goal is Yellowstone in a year or two.
And I am so jealous. Puffins are awesome!
@ Rigo that is a list!

So, crazy person that I am, read through the game thread over the weekend and I've got a question for you. When do we want to contact Elanor with those vials and let her know what we've found out? The prognosis isn't all that good, but on the plus side, we have an in with the Grasts, so we might be able to find out what became of him if we manage to prime the pump right.

Now's a good a time as any... you've embedded yourselves in with the Grast's so that's progress and you had some vaguely confirmed sightings of your quarry as well...
Obviously your call but no reason not to :)

Has anyone read the "Gormenghast" trilogy by Mervyn Peake? I'm 2/3 through and they are superb.
It's on my to-read list and I did watch some of it when it was dramatised...
Also... Folks, my holidays appear to have crept up on me with little time to think about PbP - sadly, it seems that I will going old-school and will have no wi-fi for a week... long story short, I'm not going to be in a position to post anything until the 13th August... so, hope you all enjoy a bit of summer - if you are in the Northern Hemisphere... and I'll see you on the flip-side!!!

Yup, have fun and enjoy yourself!

I'm here.

Same here. The outages are more than a little irritating.

Okay... the website appears to be functional once more!!! I have got rather tired over the last few weeks of seeing that Ysoki mechanic!!! Having said that, for the last fortnight I have had my right arm in a sling so typing hasn't been something I really wanted to do... I fell on my shoulder whilst playing roller derby and sprained a few muscles (originally the hospital thought I had broken something but they've pulled back from that diagnosis now). Anyway, feeling much better now (and might even get my skates back on this weekend) and can certainly tap away at a keyboard with gusto!!!
Audria |
Glad things worked out for ya!
So, heading for Licorice to see if we can drum up some business and find a lead on out boy Uriah?
Rigo'Sharva |
Sorry to hear you got hurt, glad it's better now.

So the screen on my laptop is mostly a black void and sometimes taunts me by working at random intervals. I am back but there is no guarantee it will last so if I do not post feel free to bot me as needed. Hopefully I will get it fixed over the weekend.
I will try to catch up after I get some sleep.
Audria |
I'll be out of town from 10-25 to 10-30. I'll not be posting at that time. Bot me as needed.
