What? Your quest-giver NPC only got cut in half. Then you lost half your health, followed by a sneak out the back door where your cleric managed to pull a Peregrin Took and almost die. And all that in just the first 10 minutes!

I really don't know what you're complaining about… ;-)

Male Human Fighter 3rd

For the record, I'm enjoying it immensely.

Now, if you guys don't mind, I have to compile a list of one-liners for my character to utter when he confirms a crit. Can't just make this stuff up on the fly, you know.

Meat Popsicle

Heh. It's been fun to read. :)

Hey just wanted to let everyone know that it'll be a couple days until Netherfire can reach a computer to post. So if you have any sort of lives outside of the game (pff, I know right? Ridiculous.) now would be the time to attend to it. Heh.

Defense:
AC 12, Touch 11, Flat-footed 11 (+4 with Mage Armor)

Half-Orc Sorcerer (Draconic) 3

I do not accept excuses. I will simply have to find myself a new giant.

:P

Male Half-elf Paladin 5, Cleric 1 (AC: 24, Flat-footed: 23, Touch: 12) (21/43) Good Horse (AC: 16, Flat-footed: 14, Touch: 16) (31/31)(45gp, 7sp 7cp), (75gp - General Fund)

Inconceivable!

Male Human Fighter 3rd

Wooo! Back in action!

Dungeon Master

I sent each of you a private message with a link to the map we will be using. Do not bother using the google spreadsheet any more. If you have any technical issues, talk to Beorn.

I presently have the innkeeper shedding torchlight through the sewers. Everyone but Henry and the innkeeper has Darkvision, and I think the gnome gets low-light vision. Henry can only see as far as the torchlight reaches. Those of you with Darkvision, do not forget that it extends to 60 feet and no further.

Meat Popsicle

Talk to who now? Everything is perfect. No bugs. Nope. None.

Except that one over there. I'll be back in a sec… *brandishes keyboard*

Male Human Fighter 3rd

Anyone else having trouble logging into DungeonGrid?

Meat Popsicle

Yeah, he distributed the (sort of) wrong link. There's an "authentication" link needed to access a board for the first time (to keep the hooligans out!), but he sent the shorter link that can be used once you're authenticated.

Sounds like developer error to me! :)

Meat Popsicle

Quiet, you, and go smite some werewolves!

Male Dwarf Ranger 17/ Dual-Path Champion/Guardian 10

Just for fun, here is an Epic level character I built. Under his posts you can see him do 590 in 1 round (and it was a bad dice round).

Ha! First your quest giver dies, then your healer nearly dies, now you're stuck in a sewer with untold diseases trapped along with a small creature of doom waiting up ahead!

Good luck! :p

Male Human Fighter 3rd

I make my own luck.
And lyrics.

But if this thing starts asking riddles, someone else is going to have to step up to the plate.

Meat Popsicle

I suppose an crash course on DungeonGrid might be in order, since most of you haven't been forced into helping me debug it (like my group has). Essentially, it's a virtual tabletop. You can move your game pieces around the board, and if Nether lets you, you can add pieces and change their attributes. Nether can resize and repaint the board to match whatever your adventure requires, and everything happens in real-time so everyone sees updates immediately.

The chat system is simple, but gets the job done for now. I'll be looking to update that in the coming weeks, depending on my work schedule. To start chatting, just type /nick Name to set your chat handle (i.e., I'd type /nick Beorn), and then you can send messages as you'd expect. To see if anyone else is online, you can type /who and it will list anyone who's been on the board in the last couple of minutes.

As a player, you can right-click on pieces to make adjustments according to spells that you might cast or potions that you might drink. For instance, if your character were to light a torch, you could change the "Aura/Light" setting and set the light radius accordingly (this only works if Nether has the board in "nighttime" mode, of course). At that point, your character will "cast" a light around it for everyone to see by, and the light moves with your character (as Nether's done with the Innkeeper already).

The Authentication link that was sent around is required to get you into the board for the first time. After that, you can just pop it open for up to a week. If you'd like to "save" your game boards or GM a board of your own, then you'll need to authenticate with either your Google+ or Facebook account. It works similarly to how Bungie.net does it; you auth once and it merges all of your boards together. Then, if you log in from a different machine later on, all of your boards are already good-to-go. DungeonGrid requests the absolute minimum amount of "user info" that Google/Facebook allow a developer to request, and the only thing that's ever seen by DG is a unique ID code that is saved in the DB for future lookup.

That's pretty much it; it's not very complicated, but I think the system works well enough so far. And definitely let me know if you have bug reports, feature requests, or other suggestions!

Feature Requests are the best. ;)

Male Dwarf Cleric 2

Hey folks, it's unlikely that I'll be able to post easily over the weekend. Hopefully I can, but if not I'll be back in action for sure by Monday.

Dungeon Master

No worries, Gorim. We'll make sure to complete the whole quest by the time you get back ;D

Is DungeonGrid working for everyone? Most of you stated movement in your posts, but the character icons in DG haven't moved. If you roll Perceptions and Survivals from those spots, you won't be getting a whole lot. I'll wait until I see your characters moved to post the results of the rolls.

Male Dwarf Cleric 2

I'll be back just in time for celebrations? I like it!

Also, I had moved Gorim to M17. Is that showing up fine?

Meat Popsicle

Looks like Gorim is in M17 to me...

Also, if your DG connection is working, then the chat will work. If you type messages and they don't appear, then something is wrong with the connection.

Male Human Fighter 3rd

Gah. Just realized that the light radius of the hooded lantern that Igith is holding is thirty meters instead of the twenty shown right now. Would that screw anything up?

Meat Popsicle

You can manually select "30" in the auras menu. :)

Yeah, I know that. I'm just asking if it's going to screw something up in the scenario.

Anyhow, can we get zoom in/out keyed to the scroll wheel?

Henry Southgard wrote:

Yeah, eventually. It's on the to-do list! I need to rework the board drag/zoom logic first so that the scroll wheel behaves like you'd expect it to (a la Google Maps).

Male Human Fighter 3rd

Very well, then.

The only other thing I can think of (And this is an edge case that probably won't get used for a while) is a cone-shaped aura, like for demonstrating the area-of-effect of a spell, or the light cast by a bullseye lantern.

Female Half-Elf Druid 6: AC 14 [+2], HP 39/41 | Shark: AC 19, HP 37/44 | 449gp 5cp

Hehe, that's DEFINITELY a 2.0 feature. ;) But I've been thinking about how to implement something like that in case we want to go there.

I like how the web developer suddenly became a Druid... :p

Male Human Fighter 3rd

And changed gender.
Is there a spell for that? Is it in the druid's spell list?

Male Half-Orc Fighter Level 2

If I have no idea what to do or what to contribute, do I need to post at all? I feel like all I can do is "Gwath watches and does nothing." Hah. :)

That's ok. You don't always have to respond in character. Usually and "I'm ready." in OOC is good. :)

Male Human Fighter 3rd

Hah. I'm kind of at a loss for what to do too.

Though, once this is all over, our characters are going to have a conversation.

*Ahem*
Prepare your backstory.

Male Human Fighter 3rd

And on that thought, how did our characters meet?

For reference, the mercenary group my character was in disbanded six months ago, and he's been bouncing around the local kingdom looking for work ever since then.

Dungeon Master

I was under the impression that all of you met while having breakfast at the inn.

And don't worry about feeling stuck. I'm not waiting for particular action to take place, I'm just trying to juggle a busy schedule right now.

The Exchange

Male Half-Orc Fighter Level 2

I was also under that impression.

Male Human Fighter 3rd

Yeah, I assumed from your first post that you had just got off the boat (Never get off the boat. :P) and Quick's profile indicates that he's new to the city. Not sure about Gorim.

Male Dwarf Cleric 2

As far as Gorim goes, he's relatively new to Elam. I don't imagine he was there long before meeting you lot. A couple of days at most.

Dungeon Master

Unless I severely misunderstood, I think Henry wanted Gorim to handle the exchange of goods between Froggy and the party. Just in case that was not clear and you were wondering why I haven't posted yet.

Male Human Fighter 3rd

Um.. ahem, yeah. Sorry about that.

Male Dwarf Cleric 2

Whoops, I misunderstood that, sorry! Will get on that now :)

Well done guys! You eat a little breakfast, talk a little business, and then proceed to lose an ENTIRE CITY to enemy forces.

Not bad for your first day half day. Can't wait to see what horrible tragedies you allow after lunch!

:p

Male Human Fighter 3rd

We didn't lose the city.

We realized that the city governance was unlikely to pay us to defend it, as they were probably hightailing it out of the city already.

Now, if we were to follow the refugees and offer to train a militia...

Male Human Fighter 3rd

Test link works like charm.

So browsing the reference document, I read in the Knowledge section: "You cannot make an untrained Knowledge check with a DC higher than 10."

So should we be doing 1d10+our modifier in fields we don't have? For example, the Knowledge: Local roll I'm about to make.

Meat Popsicle

We had the same issue. :) Just roll regularly and anything greater than 10 just gets counted as 10.

Male Human Fighter 3rd

Hi, y'all! It's the team wet blanket here, and today I'm going to ask you to keep the rules discussion in the discussion section! Just so we don't lose our thread in the middle of combat.

Thank you.

The Exchange

Male Half-Orc Fighter Level 2

Henry attempted to persuade his team to follow the rules and get the discussion out of the game...

Persuasion = 1d20 + 2 => (4) + 2 =6

And fails so badly that somehow he managed to get the game in the discussion...

Male Human Fighter 3rd

Obviously, I did not dump Charisma hard enough!
