I'm guessing -- and Isaac, correct me if I'm wrong -- that Captain Lamorak's intent wasn't so much to get an accurate map of the city as much as it was to get an idea of the tactical situation on the ground, e.g., are there shady-looking types moving around, any features that wouldn't show up on a map, where are there troops, where are there cops, etc. More a real-time report than "where's the shopping district?" That kind of thing.

Oh totally, yeah, you can assume that you were each provided with an up-to-date map of the city so you can get around easily. It's worth noting that hansom cabs, rickshaws, and other forms of transportation are available for quite affordable rates as well.

Well, again, my interpretation is that your captain is looking more for intel, rather than tactical support or overwatch. Basically, the party is being split three ways.

as since I always assumed geography could be used for mapmaking. Will soon be taking levels in cartographer. :)

You can use Geography, but P(Cartographer) would be better. Here's the way I handle it:


  • Knowledge Checks are much broader and more useful in more situations, but have higher DCs whenever something really specific, or rare, or related to a profession is involved.
  • Profession Checks have a much narrower focus, but when it's a toss-up between a K check and P check, the P check will have a much lower DC.

So yeah; P checks aren't useful as often as K checks, but when they are, they're MUCH more useful.

You're doing a fine job, I like how your being more descriptive lately, helps me picture your character more. Although when you started stripping it reminded me of Several moments in a Manga known as Air Gear and I seriously sprayed my rockstar on my computer monitor at work.

I'm actually of the belief that Kyras, Azami, and Chu should come to Legacy of Marianasu, because it's more germane to the Legacy group's main storyline. In the same vein, Maiathreen and Livain would jump over to Mists.

Howdy y'all! I know a few of you have expressed interest in going to GenCon, so I thought I'd give you a price breakdown on what it costs for the necessaries like hotel and parking and food. The numbers here are just for the hotel we stay at, the JW Marriott, which I really like. It's a brand-new hotel and has three restaurants, two bars, a starbucks, and plenty of other perks, so I dig it. I dunno how much room prices differ from hotel to hotel downtown, but I can't imagine it's all that different, esp. during an event as huge as GC. So anyway, here's the basics. These numbers assume you're staying at the JW Marriott, with four people in a room, and that you carpooled down. If that's the case, here's what you pay in one day:

Parking: $9
Various Taxes: $14
Food: $30

Total room expenses for one day at Con: $105.50
Badge price (one-time fee): $70
Events (one-time fee, averaged): $34
Gas money (one-time fee): $10

TOTAL COST for Wednesday-Sunday: $536
TOTAL COST for Wednesday-Monday: $641.50

Obviously, you can save money by spending less on food and events, but I'm aiming for a realistic number here that allows you to not go broke but still do a lot of the stuff you go to GenCon to do, namely eat great food and play a LOT of games. The gas thing is a variable number, too, of course. I'm sure some folks ask more or less depending on how stingy or chill they are, and depending on how many passengers they have. The parking fee is just the daily parking cost split four ways. The taxes are on an individual basis. I know you can also save $$ by staying farther away, but then you have to deal with daily parking and/or taking a shuttle into the city. I did that once and hated it, but YMMV.

So yeah! Hope this helps with budgeting. Housing opens in January, and you gotta move fast!

Thinking if we go it might just be easier to fly...don't know if I want to drive from Florida all the way there....but this certainly helps. We'd definitely have to find a cheaper hotel that's what over $200 for the two of us?


Oh ye gods yes; it would make no sense for y'all to drive unless you had a bunch of folks to carpool with. Flying would definitely be smarter in your case. I believe for two people in a room at the JW you'd be looking at $170/night, total.

But, as I said, you can certainly save some $$ by staying further away from town. I just wanted to give everyone a baseline number so they had some concrete idea of the cost.

Right now, not going to have Azami respond to Belsarious until there's a response from Kyras. I can't think of a way to give him another roll to break enchantment. Wish she could use her own resolve for someone else (per the Resolute ability).
