Flug Managarm |
Moving to F-5.
Flug enters the room after some of the others have fled, moving to the side of the walls. He cocks his head at the apparition, contemplating it.
Knowledge (religion): 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (9) + 4 = 13
Cеlif |
"AAAAAAAAaaaaaahhhhhh!"
I can remember a time -- back in the temple before I adopted Celif -- when it was Flug running away in fear. These days he's even shaken off his stutter and seems among the bravest of us all. What wonderful growth!
Imowen Aroudilee |
With the sudden departure of so many of my companions, I quietly sneak around the door to the side of the room opposite Flug, ending up at C-5. From here I observe the objects in the room especially concentrating on the apparition using my Canny Observer rogue talent, hoping to figure out who this is/was and why he is here like this now.
Canny Observer: 1d20 + 10 + 4 ⇒ (11) + 10 + 4 = 25
Perhaps between us Flug and I can figure this out if we work together.
Story Master |
While the fleeing members of the party stop in the courtyard and come to their senses being scared has ended, Flug and Imowen move to opposite sides of the room to observe the image floating and emoting in anguish at the center.
Flug Managarm |
Flug still has his stutter, but it only occurs during downtime for the most part. :P
Flug pauses in his contemplation to casually take out one of the monastery prayer books from his backpack and flick through it.
Knowledge (religion): 1d20 + 4 + 4 ⇒ (9) + 4 + 4 = 17
Fener |
Fener hearing the commotion walks into the room and seeing the ghostly figure tries to address it.
Hello, Friend..... how can we help you?
Perception: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (6) + 11 = 17 to see if the ghost notices my presence and anything else of detail.
Flug Managarm |
"Abbott. Head of the monastery." Flug puts the prayer book back and approaches teh ghost, reaching out to put his hand through the apparition's wound.
Gezzo Wrathforge |
Gezzo regains his composure and carefully looks back into the room. Lryhla whines quietly as the inquisitor steps next to his steed. His eyes dart to the corners of the dark room looking for any clues.
Perception: 1d20 + 15 ⇒ (4) + 15 = 19
Lryhla's perception with scent: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (15) + 5 = 20
Religion and Local for the ghost: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (20) + 7 = 27
Story Master |
The ghostly image continues to scream in agony...
Flug reaches out to touch the image, but his hand passes through it with no discernable effect.
Combined Perception and Knowledge Rolls (aiding each other, with prayer book bonus): The appearance of the room indicates a struggle occurred, based on the overturned furnishings and bloodstains on the cot and floor. The individual's violent death has resulted in a haunted imprint within this room. The man is dressed in the robe of the monastery Abbot. It is obvious that someone has ransacked the room, as all the contents kept in containers have been dumped and scattered on the floor.
Cеlif |
Celif sheepishly rejoins the group. "Sorry," she says in a tiny, quiet voice.
Imowen Aroudilee |
There doesn't seem to be anything more in here nor anything more we can do for this poor tortured soul at this time. I suggest we move on and see what else we can find.
Having said this I leave the room and move to the door at H-7. I check it for traps and to see if it is locked.
Checking for Traps: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (14) + 12 = 26
Disable Device - Traps: 1d20 + 15 ⇒ (19) + 15 = 34
Disable Device - Lock: 1d20 + 15 ⇒ (11) + 15 = 26
Story Master |
Imowen does not detect any traps present on the door, but it is locked. She manipulates some tools, and manages to unlock the door and open it.
Several wood wardrobes are present along the east wall. The west wall contains a long counter with overhead cabinetry. A table made of solid stone sits near the south wall. There are objects on the table covered with a sheet of white cloth. A layer of dust coats everything in the room.
The map is updated.
Gezzo Wrathforge |
Is there any chance you would know a ceremony that would give this spirit peace, Celif?
Gezzo asks as he looks into the room with the wardrobes. He pauses at the door to concentrate on any auras.
Cast detect magic and detect evil on the room.
Flug Managarm |
Flug looks unaffected throughout the entirety of the image's screaming. He remains a few moments longer before exiting the room and shutting the door behind him, muffling the sound.
He follows Imowen into the new room and begins opening the wardrobe doors.
Cеlif |
"I... I'm not sure. We were able to help the others, but that was thanks to an artifact, not me. Let's see..." She pauses to pull a small bound volume from her backpack and begins leafing through it.
Player wants to give it some thought and do a little research. :o)
Story Master |
As everyone leaves the room, and Flug closes the door, the sound of the man in anguish rapidly diminishes, and then fades away...
Flug opens the wardrobe doors and finds they contain ceremonial hooded silk robes and sashes embroidered with the Shining Path symbol.
Cеlif |
"Gezzo," Celif says, not looking up from the book she's flipping through, "did you get anything at all from that room, auras and so on? The way that wailing faded in and out, perhaps the thing is just an illusion. Which makes me wonder what someone wanted to protect by scaring people away."
Story Master |
Imowen lifts the cloth up, and reveals several items made of silver. The objects resting on the stone table include a candlestick, an oval plate engraved with the Shining Path symbol, an ornate goblet, a folding fan, and a knife with a blade curved into a crescent. All of these items are made of silver and worth 25 gp each.
Imowen Aroudilee |
After looking over these items I gather them up and put them in my backpack.
Then I turn and ask Gezzo, Do you detect anything in here?
I look around the rest of the room to see if there are any other items to be found, including in the bottoms of the wardrobes.
Perception: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (3) + 10 = 13
Gezzo Wrathforge |
There are magical auras emanating from the table and the cabinets. Be careful until we can figure out what power resides here.
Gezzo concentrates intently and answers Celif's question.
Spellcraft to identify items: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (2) + 8 = 10
Gezzo Wrathforge |
The auras from the table are like that of a spell to grant you greater insight called Owl's Wisdom. The aura in the cabinet is a simple blessing, perhaps by the clerics that lived here.
Any chance that Gezzo can tell which items have the auras?
Cеlif |
Celif moves cautiously about the room examining everything.
Perception: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (7) + 7 = 14
Story Master |
Any chance that Gezzo can tell which items have the auras?
Story Master |
Examining the stone table closely, Gezzo detects a secret door built into its end. He manages to open the door, and a small compartment contains a metal headband decorated with the Shining Path symbol. Careful examination of the headband reveals its properties:

Gezzo Wrathforge |
Sorry about my delays, I've been traveling for the last two weeks and my connection has been spotty. But, I'm back and ready to go!
I could use this headband, but does anyone else think they need it? @SM, if I wear this for greater then 24 hours does the bonus become permanent? And if it does, can I pass it to another character or does it destroy the item?
Gezzo ponders the headband while holding it in his hands. He then looks into the cabinets for the source of the second aura.
Take 20 for the cabinet+16=36
Story Master |
@SM, if I wear this for greater then 24 hours does the bonus become permanent? And if it does, can I pass it to another character or does it destroy the item?
It grants the wearer an enhancement bonus to Wisdom of +2 as long as it is worn. If removed, the enhancement ceases.
