The device consists of three main parts - the cylinder, the telescoping rod, and the rotor. The cylinder is the diameter of a softball, measures 16" long, and is capped at both ends. From one end a telescoping rod extends out to a length of 4'6", at the end of which is a rotor/propeller. The telescoping rod is only 2" in diameter at its base, giving you a pretty decent grip where it meets the cylinder. The rotor blade measure 30" from tip to tip, and the rod connects to it in the middle like a "T".
You could try to hold on with one hand while using the other to unstrap your hot box or backpack from one shoulder, "tie" the loose strap around the rod by looping it around the base of the rod once or twice, then (the tricky part) re-strap yourself back into the hotbox/backpack such that it will harness you to the device.
The harnessing maneuver is a DC 15 Escape Artist check; failure by 5 or more risks you losing your grip - subjects you to a Reflex challenge at +10 to catch yourself, otherwise you fall to the ground.

no worries- its been a very long week for me as well.
funny story though about how I spent a little bit of my time- someone's running a recruitment for a gritty, low-fantasy game where he rolls your stats for you (in the recruitment thread)... 4d6 drop the lowest once and then 3d6 five times! The stats he was rolling were so rough I asked for a set... 15, 13, 11, 6, 5, 5; lol. so I'm making a horse with an oracle companion (technically I'm making an oracle, but my Int and Wis are both 5 and my horse animal companion has 6 Int and 12 Wis).

What sort of balance between summary and specificity do you prefer? I don't want to glaze over too much, but nor do I want to spend a lot of time on extraneous details; I also don't like backtracking to deal with questions/actions too much.
Maybe if I note here in discussion when I plan to have a big chunk of time pass, and you can post what it is that Vernalis is going to keep an eye out for? And then we'll assume that if something isn't mentioned, it hasn't noticeably changed. For instance:
Me: Alright, I'm going to jump forward to your arrival at the next location; anything specific you're looking out for on the road?
You: Vernalis is interested in:
Or I can just make a check for each Know skill and include a breakdown of everything those get you in any time-jump summary posts and leave it at that.

I like the last option best. If there's nothing worth interacting with for a stretch you don't need to point that out here, a simple "After three days of uneventful travel Vernalis [something interesting]" in gameplay will be fine. And, not only do I have no objections to you rolling checks during those times, I prefer it- roll whatever checks are appropriate and just include what I know/learn/discover in the post.
