Ouch.

Thorun responds almost like a dim witted giant, taking a plethora of cuts. As his blood flows he feels the flash of familiar anger, then roars at the commoners. He raises his greataxe and brings it down towards the head of the commoner who stabbed him badly.

Attacking the one who crit me.

This group had turned on Sean so easily, she couldn't help but wonder how fast they would turn on Nial.

Ruadhan strikes a fair blow with the flat of his sword, but the berserking king barely notices.

Seeing an opening, Ruadhán grasps it. Diving through between the king and the warrior next to him, he comes up behind the King, ready to fight.
I assume this is my standard action, I think we might still need it after all! Alternatively it may hurt! Move to G8 with Acrobatics.

Going off the map I thought G8 was behind him, hoping to flank with Niall. (Although that would make for a very cinematic sneak attack if I could!) Unfortunately, posting from my phone it won't seem to let me move my token.

Done. Ruadhan @ F8. Doesn't that give Thorun flanking bonus as well?

Struck hard by the large Dane before him, King O'Fialain seems both intimidated and increasingly furious...

As the frenzied king turns his attention towards Thorun, his son draws his sword. Having no other choice, seeing no other way, Nial attacks his father...

"I am sorry," Nial whispers as his blade goes deep. As death comes to take his soul, the king recognizes his son before him. With a look of sadness and astonishment, he reaches out. He wants to say something, but he chokes in his own blood.

Suddenly, there is perfect silence on the battlefield. Covered in his father's blood, Nial cradles his father and carries him to the ground. The king is dead. Long live the king.

As Kassidy was now stable Aoife looked to Brother Ó Máille and her allies. "Tend to the Fili and Sean..." She requested as she made her way to Nial's side. Softly she places her hand upon his shoulder. "Nial I-" Aoife began but she stopped herself... there was nothing she could say. While it had been Nial's blade the struck his father down, Aoife couldn't help but feel responsible... after all she had asked him to return.

Aoife said nothing, she just remained by Nial offering what support she could. No one should go through the death of a parent alone and Aoife trusted her friends to take care of the Fili and Sean.

As the battle dies down, Thorun turns around wildly, bloody blade flinging red arcs across the ground as the Dane searches for his next target. With the silence setting in and the realizing of what happened, Thorun's lone anger only seems to draw more attention to the fact that the human capability for violence...that is what did this. And it was not only in men like Thorun, it is within everybody.

Thorun blinks, staggering back as if a drunkard. He looks around at all the people, seeming confused. Then he turns and looks down at the corpse of the king, and to Nial who is cradling him with a blood-soaked blade in hand. Thorun slowly turns his axe blade, looking at the blood on it and the wound in the dead king's side. Then he looks back down at the king.

"Aw f#**."

For years to come, bards will tell of the epic Battle of Boho, of King O’Fialain’s treachery, of the valour of the warriors of Largay, and of the miracles performed by Brother O’Maille…

Brother O’Maille tends to the wounded and the dying, and prays for the dead. His miracles transcend blood feuds, and even the warriors of Boho look upon the blessed priest with awe and renewed faith in God.

Three commoners will be buried on the morrow. And the treacherous King of Boho.

The Fili Airthuir, despite having suffered King O’Fialains treason and fury, declares Nial O’Fialain to be a true friend to Fermanagh, and thus cements the young man’s hold on the crown of Boho.

”The king is dead. Long live the king,” the Fili declares that night.

”I killed my father,” Nial confesses before all. ”My father broke his word. He turned against his own. He lost his way. Here an now, I vow to never make the same mistakes. I vow to you all to be a better king, to be worthy, and to save you from harm and infamy.”

”The people of Largay are now and forever our friends,” Nial O’Fialain continues. ”From this day, our people shall be at peace.”

”Thank you,” he addresses the heroes of Largay, bowing to each one of them in order to acknowledge their heroism. In particular, he makes a point of finding Aoife who stands in the doorway to the kitchen where the slaves belong.

But his eyes speak of great sadness and sorrow as he hands Kassidy O’Kennedy – who speaks for Fintan McGovern, the King of Largay’s son and heir – the Shard of the Spear of Lugh.

Finally!

Aoife had been taken back when Nial sought her in particular. While she may have expected a thanks in private she never thought he would be so bold as to bow to a slave. However it did make her smile softly and give a bow of her own to Nial. "I knew you'd come back." Aoife smiled. "Though I am so sorry it ended the way it did." She said, the look in his eyes made her want to hug him and say it would all be okay... but while she could push her luck with Fintan... she wouldn't here. "Thank you for coming back." Aoife muttered though she was unsure if anyone actually caught it.

I wasn't wrong...

"You would make a fine wife if you weren't a slave," Nial admits to Aoife before continuing to make his way through the crowd. It would be unseemly for him to spend any more time with her when so many of the nobleman of his kingdom were here both to mourn the death of his father and to celebrate his own claim to the crown.

He spends more time with the other heroes of Largay, and particularly with Brother O'Maille who is revered by all as truly blessed by God...

Aoife's face slowly turned a bright red before she cleared her throat and said "You give high praise to one such as me." However her blush does not leave and a small smile is on her lips though she tries to hide it with her hand. Maybe soon I will no longer be a slave... Though first I'm told I'd be a good mother now I could be a fine wife... What will be next? Aoife wondered to herself.

Ruadhán rolls behind the King, just in time to see 6 inches of steel appear out of the King's back and the King shudder and go limp. Scanning around he realises the fight is over and his blade and shield lower as the adrenalin leaves him and the pain and exhaustion replace them.
I really am no longer a young man now, I swear this hurts more than it used to.

Going to check on Kass he is in time to see Brother O'Maille call on God again and feel the miraculous power wash through him.
This man is clearly blessed, this is the right place, I may not be much of a father, but I will bring them here even at risk of my own dishonour and that will be good for them.
"I thought we nearly lost you there Kass, I am glad we didn't. Let me help you to somewhere a little more comfortable to recover." Seeing Thorun, dazed and dejected, he calls out to the big warrior. "Thorun, come help, let us help Brother O'Maille get the wounded into shelter before the rain starts again. You saved us today big man, without you , we would not have lasted long enough for Neil and Brother O'Maille to have finished this."

As the day progresses and the shadows lengthen into evening, Ruadhán muses on the day, the battle won that feels more like a defeat and his own grief rises within. Taking the opportunity to find Niall in the crowd, he speaks with the sincerity of one who knows something of the subject. "Niall or rather King Niall, I cannot claim to know what you are feeling now, but I know a little something of grief. I cannot say it will ever leave you, but it will fade in time and it will no longer hurt all the time. Remember to cling to the fond memories, for they become like precious stones as everything else fades away. Lastly remember this from a father, albeit not a great one. My children are still young and yet we have fallen out over many things, some I have been right about and sometimes them. However whether I agree with them or not they are still my children and I am proud of them, in fact I have never been more proud than when they have stood up to me like adults. I am sorry for what happened today, but your father's soul will look down and be proud of you today, for standing up for what you believe in, like a king should."
Having spoken his piece, Ruadhán does his best to avoid the others for a while, moving off to a quiet space in the dark.

"Time heals all wounds," Nial agrees with Ruadhan. "Thank you. I would never have expected an O'Brolachain to stand at my side. Perhaps there is hope for peace among all our people, after all?"

Seeing Ruadhan find comfort is solitude, Nial commands his slaves to make sure that his guest is well tended to. Through the night, they bring him food and drink. When he tires, they provide soft wool covers and a fresh straw pillow.
