where are we in terms of land such as a dessert.

cake lands, nom nom :3

If there were cake lands, I wonder if Druids could wildshape into pastries...

er - more on topic though, do we know roughly how long ago the war of 3 took place? I realized I didn't really have a time frame for it when fiddling with a backstory. Although, I guess if Groden is a vet we can assume it was fairly recent.

17 years previous. So its still quite fresh in everyones mind.

Uploaded a map of Liberium and by map I mean very crude drawing coloured in via paint ;)

Have a look. You should be able to access it but if not let me know.

If there is any spots left let me know and I would be interested in playing

okay, how exactly can one create a character here? using myth-weavers online char sheets is ok?

Or anything really, you could physically make it with pen and paper and post it up. I use Hero Lab

This is the alias I will now use in place of Michael Falcon 866:

Doomed Hero here (Boomer in the other game)

I'd like to submit a character, but I usually try to tie them into what's going on in the world (I like to be a part of the plot as much as possible).

I was only able to pick up a few hints of your setting from your write up, but here's an idea based on what I could glean-

Killjoy is a stealthy dex-based Lore Warden Fighter (who will take a splash of Four Winds Monk) in the style of Ryu from Ninja Gaiden, possibly a descendant of one of the original black-clad ten.

Would that background work?

This build requires the Dervish Dance feat to work. Do you have any issue with that feat?

Yo (Soris ;P)

This is a rough version, I should have him done tomarrow. Any information on the setting will help me too, helps me write up a good background.

Also sense this guy is a gravewalker can I start with an undead or will their be some undead early that I can snatch up. He can only control a 1 HD undead mind you.

It's Isaac from Tierce's game. Sorry to the rest of you, but we're taking over =p

How about a fighter(archer), dipping wizard, and going into arcane archer. Would an elf be a playable race at all, or should I just go human? Also, will this be like Tierce's game where we will finish off our backstories after we have been accepted?

Since he didn't make it into Epiphany, I submit Senadyne Deepblood.

DM:
This is Darius, by the way.

This is GM_Jacob, aka Isaac of Steyr. I put together an alias for my application.

I decided to just go with a human and not worry about elf or half-elf or something. This is a Fighter (Archer) who will serve a long-range attack role along with some scouting at first, add a little combat magic when I dip wizard, then go into arcane archer.

I'm not sure how to integrate the backstory yet, but I can give you a bit of personality. Cyne is highly disciplined in everything he does. He takes his time and thinks things through. He practices his archery every day and fletches almost all of his own arrows. He is always prepared and can be counted on to come up with an efficient solution to most problems. However, his thoughtfulness can often lead into him dwelling on things too much and holding grudges very strongly. He can get very passive aggressive if provoked.

Killjoy up there and I think it would be cool if we knew each other from elsewhere beforehand, but we haven't worked out how yet. I think we're both waiting on a little direction from the GM on where we fit in the world. I know I'm up for just about anything, backstory-wise.

Started to work on actual char sheet, here is the background and some details so we can discuss it (warning, very long):

info spoiler:
"Is what I did the right thing, or the lawful one? Maybe both, or neither. Am I a traitor or a hero? I often hear called the first one, and the ones calling me the other are already in graves. In the end it doesn't matter, what people say and think is usually two different things, and I have no regrets anyway."

My character is a middle aged male elf, Ilsa'falquan Serkerie. The name roughly means "Silversword Bloodcrown". Such an exotic name of multiple words combined and even more meanings behind it often hint at a noble heritage. This is also true for Lord Serkerie who was once a Lord of a small elven settlement near the border of human territory which he inherited from his ancestors. His family had a long history among the elves, but also one that tells the story of of a once proud and strong royal family which lost might and influence due to ignorance, misfortune, and plotting of other houses. House Serkerie was seemingly doomed to die out, many ancient powerful enemies in the elven court wished so, the reason that the last of the lands owned by the family was at the edge of society and near the "barbarians" was also due to their plots that forced the family to move there.

The former Lord, father of my character did however ignore the wishes and dreams of the rival families and was one of the few elves who actively sought contact to humans, and his diplomacy resulted in many profitable trade routes and the growth of the small settlement into a wealthy city where human and elven cultures peacefully met eachother, and where arguments and hostilities peacefully were resolved, at one time the city even gained fame for this outside the local realm, and foreign lords also came to it to negotiate on neutral territory.
Peace and order didn't last for long however, the old lord was poisoned and died inside his own city walls. The mother of the young lordling became the new ruler and made some decisions which while aided security and military buildup resulted in the loss of almost all trade revenue. When Ilsa'falquan came of age and became the new Lord, he ignored the city for decades and instead wandered nearby elven and human lands, seeking adventure and earthly pleasures. This is when he met an elven princess by accident, and they fell in love with each other. It was also the same year when the first conflicts began between humans and elves which eventually led to the "War of Three".
The story would in most fairy tales end here, telling of a marriage and happily living forever after, or speak instead of the war and how the turmoils dragged the pair into despair and drama. Well, the truth is it is both and neither. Lord Ilsa eloped with the princess who turned out to be the daughter of one of the most ancient and hated rival elven house to his own, but instead of an elven army with an angry father, a message of the end of the rival House due to orcish massacre arrived at the castle. The conflicts escalated and were close to turn into a proper war. Lord Ilsa used the wealth of the family to reopen diplomatic channels to the humans but it had no positive results, at this time was that he was visited in a dream by The Silent, or so he got to think of it. He then went under danger of lynching from locals deep into human lands, to their recently elected capital, and among skeptical and surprised human nobles he swore fealty to the human king and on the same day converted to the human religion.

The war was just weeks away from starting and due to strategical and political reasons the king "welcomed" his new vassal with open arms. The territory owned by House Serkerie was about the size of a smaller Duchy, and its bordernear location meant these lands changed the situation on the map and in planning of defenses immediately. The king gathered an army to advance through the newly gained lands into elven territory while the young Lord (who didn't get the honor of gaining the human Ducal title, but atleast was recognized as a noble still, keeping the Lord titme) went back home to defeat a rebellion of his opposition.

As time (decades) went by, he married the former princess and had twins, a daughter and son with her. At first the elven population hated him but as time went by (and as he drove off an invading orcish army which didn't care about where the loyalties of the city were) they realized that they were safer here than anywhere else in conquered lands. As the war went on the elven lands were more and more in the disadvantage to multiple reasons, at the same time as humans conquered nearby elven lands the most "problematic" places were granted for him to rule over, almost doubling the lands of the Serkerie. True, both the human and elven elties (and many more) hated him, but all the unpopular choices he did turned out benevolently.

The city became once again an important trade center, and many humans were invited to settle down, craftsmen and artists, low nobles without land, all got a chance and some were elevated to local nobles with land. At the same time elven refugees also began to arrive, and were warmly welcomed, this was however not in line with other actions he did, as example he invited the Inquisition and gave them land inside the city, and built the Cathedral of Silence, which was enchanted with magic so that noises can't leave or get inside the halls of the holy place.

While there always was unrest between the various citizens, the passing century made it sure the local elves and humans are more tolerant than most. The land is now known as the Lordship of Arnyek, and the city got the human name of Treeshade (direct translation of elven name). It became the third largest vassalage of the regional human Kingdom, and after that Kingdom splintered into smaller ones it gained semi-autonomy.
The wife of the character died about 20 years ago, he remarried a human noblewoman ten years ago, who is now 31, they have a daughter and she is pregnant again. All three children of House Serkerie look about the same age of 16, of course only the half-elven daughter is truly of that age. Half-elves are the most common in Treeshade, but even here hatred couldn't entirely be rooted out, and the noble title doesn't protect anyone of spite and jealousy either.

My character was until now basically an NPC, a second dream 5 years ago made him decide to join the Inquisition, this is why despite his age he is level 1, as he basically lost all the NPC class levels and he also had no training since his adventuring days about a century ago and got rusty. He left the rule of the lands to his wife, the captain of the Guard, and the City Mayor. I don't intend to use ingame any wealth or power from the background unless I properly gain the benefits from skills or feats.

I consider the traits "Rich Parents" and either "Warrior of Old" or "Forlorn" to simulate the effects of the background story. His stats are properly modified with the middle aged changes. His class will be Inquisitor with Exorcist/Heretic/Preacher archetypes. He isn't exactly a real Heretic but looks upon some religious matters through elven perspective, and believes that The Silent is actually either not just a human god (despite that human authority makes people believe that is the case), or that he was mistaken and the god of his whom he gains powers from and prays to may not even be The Silent and he was mistaken, a few doubts have arisen in the last year. He will choose instead the Domain power the Fate Inquisition, I plan for the future advancement to add and use the themes of Time, Fate, Knowledge, and Judgement for my character. Possibility to multiclass into Cleric or Rogue is there.

So, why did I write such a detailed background? Because I have to ask if you are okay with two things, one is the trait of Rich Parents which basically represent the money of his own that he starts with, and the second thing is because I wish the lands of Arnyek to be an ancient place full with legends about Shadow Dragons, where they were hunted and a few still linger, where items of their bones and skin can still be found or bought.

Using Piecemail Armor I wish to make a new armor unique to my char, or maybe to all of inquisition. The "Inquisiton Armor" would be an Arms(Chain)/Torso(Armored Coat)/Legs(Scale) full armor which would mostly look as the gear of the character depicted at the class description of Inquisitor although more armored. the numbers for it are pretty balanced although it would b a bit higher in armor class than other medium armors: Armor(7)Dex.mod(max 2)A.C.P.(-3) Spell failure(35%) Speed(20)

using the rules this results in a 35 lbs weighting armor worth 85 gold, now the issue here is even the raw armor is good for flavor and to customize my character, I would like to use the dragonskin modifier for all armor pieces as per rules, the cost of a masterwork Dragonskin "Inquisition Armor" would be 620 gold, I don't want something overpowered but for "coolness level" and flavor I would like to have such an armor of dark/black dragon leather, I know such an armor gives immunity to something, but I don't want fire immunity or something else which would be more likely to be useful for ever, plus I believe such an armor for an Inquisitor would be more fitting to be made of Shadow Dragon hide anyway, bot for the looks and for the energy drain immunity what as mentioned would be just make more sense for inquisitors and is also very unlikely to be an important advantage, especially at such low levels. (but I do intend to keep the armor for ever, maybe improve on it but never replace)

As you see, the 900 gold giving background trait would almost be used up on the armor alone and I wanted to explain why and how the character would have so much money, and for what it would be used, if you are okay with the backstory but not the traits and the dragonhide armor then I would probably choose Forlorn and Warrior of Old instead of Rich Parents, all from this link

http://www.d20pfsrd.com/traits

If you are okay with the base armor itself that would already be great as even if not made of dragonskin it is unique enough. I wish to add flavor to the story and maybe you also like the background enough to implement in your whole world, and I do not intend to make absurd requests or to drive you insane so if you disagree with any of my ideas just tell me and I throw them out XD

I may also be mistaken about some historical details, like how the gods are handled, or that the human Kingdom splintered after the war ended (just thought it would make sense as unity among humans wouldn't be that great factor once they won)

I've changed Groden's class, as I realised he was more of a paladin, and less like a fighter. As for his diety, which one would make sense for his character?

Hmm Groden I believe that Alatrys(Lawful Good) is more for protection, health and kindness or Ignias(Chaotic Good) who is more about listening to the fire in your heart and promotes been more rash and compulsive. Either of these might be good choices for you. Domains are in the info tab under Gods. I will give more info when I get a chance. The few Gods I have put up are all available to worship apart from Datrys.
If you worship either of these you will most likely see a bit of conflict with the Voice. You can still be hired but they won't like you ;)

@Killjoy: Dervish Dancer is fine in my book.

@Ialo: I will get back to you about the undead. If nothing else there is bound to be something wandering about that you can pick up :P

Backgrounds if you can come up with stuff that is fine but I will probably try and help develop it slightly in discussion. I will have a think about how you could have met and post a few ideas for yous :)

There is a bit of info in the gameplay info tab is there anything more in particular that everyone would like.

Well I think this guy is done stat wise.

@joriandrake: I liked how you explained everything I have a few questions but We can sort that out if you get chosen.

@Krumthi: just in, create a concept if your interested.

I am closing recruitment now any of those who wish to finish up their characters please do I will be deciding over the next few days. Anyone who has previously posted feel free to finish up your ideas. I do not need a finished backstory that can be ironed out later.

The campaign itself is fairly dark with some bright patches (I hope) and will deal with death quite a bit. Gods and magic will play a major part in the campaign.

Ignias fits the best, I will go with them as my patron. Good luck to everyone and hopefully see you on the other side.

Here is a rough background for Ialo.

Background:

Ialo is the last surviving member of the Darkfang Clan. The Darkfang Clan was an extended family numbering in the hundreds, they lived in their own hidden village. The clan was made up of witches, necromancers, sorcerers, priest, and the like. They held no loyality save to the clan, they were often employed in dealing with matters of death. At times that meant laying to rest the dead, undead, or those that deserved death. Knowing that they were feared and misunderstood they remained hidden and isolated from the greater world. That all changed when the so called holy men fell upon their village, some how the clan's home had been exposed. Ialo returned to the village, witnessing the result of the attack. Every man, woman, and child was murdered, some cut down in their own homes. Yet that was not enough for the attackers, they crucified as many as they could. Leaving their bodies to be eaten by the murder of countless crows. Ialo took his things that day and left his village. He would rebuild the Darkfang clan and take the souls of those who had destroyed his people for no reason. Death was too light a price for them.

A bit dark but I think it goes along with the setting. ;)

Background:
Senadyne Deepblood born to a priest of The Silent, he was introduced into the teachings of the priesthood at an early age. While this may have developed his skills to lead people, it never quite sat with him the right way. But he still put his lessons to good use, for among his friends he was always considered the leader of the group. And as such always lead the charge for doing some light hearted mischief.
Then one day during his lessons Senadyne came across a book about the planes. This struck his curiousity in such a furious way that he could not stop researching the subject. His knowledge kept swelling with the names of various denizens of the Abyss and the dwellers of the Heavens. It was during this period where he found a book of creatures called Eidelons.
After weeks of preparation rituals, Senadyne summoned one, a serpentine monstrosity with two head. He was hooked. For the next few years, the young summoner, practiced in secret. Until the day he got careless and his father discovered him. Infuriated, the priest cast out his own son into the wilderness. Since that day Senadyne has been living the life of a mercenary, taking jobs wherever he can find them. Until now…………

DM:
I'm going to change his race to Human ,adjust a couple of skills and languages, and make sure he is within your regulations.

Age, 2d6 + 16 ⇒ (3, 2) + 16 = 21
hight,5'6"
wight,160
alinement,LN
Name,Torag

and he is dun so vampires beware of the war hammer. The rest is my profile so run undead RUN.

Updated

Thanks :)

Everyones characters look good I am seeing a few hooks that I can get my teeth into already :D

I am hoping to get these chosen by saturday at the latest. Then characters can be finished up etc ready to start next week. At the moment it looks like I will be taking 6 or 7 characters.

I think I forgot to mention this but all characters will be in the city of Ansa at the beginning of the campaign. You are allowed to be part of The Voice if you wish or The Shadows (The Priesthoods resident assassins).

Or anything else that you can come up with if you have a nice idea. This is our world and you will be the people that populate it. I am very open minded to change.

Looking forward to seeing the choices.

please check if you can see the sheet properly, some things not included like the background and majority of items, I will have to convert lbs and size from metric as well

Something that popped out to me is the shadow dragon armor. I dont think PF has a shadow dragon, so I guess your using 3e(correct me if I am wrong, one of my personal fav dragons). That being the case any armor made from dragons has immunity to the energy type of the dragon, that does not extend to the wearer(you). Also what type of medium armor gives +7 AC?

I AM BACK! so i hath the base of sum undead hunters named The Hooded Reapers it is a cillt of vampire hunters and paladins but it has a hidein leader with evil plans but no one knows and fink he is a good man with power and a good hart. And a smoll groop of master hunter one of wich is me

I was flying home today and ended up spending some time in airports without internet. I started playing with photoshop to pass the time and came up with this. It's not particularly great, but I thought I'd share it here.

Sczarni

Hey hair will have the character to you by Saturday. On vacation so I wont be on much until next weekend Sunday or Monday the 24th or 25th.

sorry, I know 3rd and 3-5 edition most, I avoid Forgotten Realms after 4th edition due to the storyline mess to be honest, and well.... no clue what PF is supposed to mean, Pathfinder?

I know this world is homebrew, so I don't know if Shadow Dragons can have a home on it or not (up to GM), with 1-3 changes basically all Pathfinder version dragons could be turned into shadow dragon anyway I think.

Well, I may have been wrong, I thought the wearer would get the immunity, was surprised why it would be this "cheap" (compared to magic items), if it grants immunity so this would explain it. Not a real problem however, as I mainly wanted this for flavor. Maybe later it can be made into a magic armor and grant a proper immunity to the wearer too for cost of modifier 1 or 2.

As for the armor bonus, Inquisitor Armor was made according to piecemail rules, if I didn't mistake those then a full armor made with the rules grants +1 AC and also +5% arcane failure chance. The armor is constructed of Arms(Chain)/Torso(Armored Coat)/Legs(Scale) pieces. The total armor is 6+1 thus.

So, I'd say Cyne would be part of the Shadows. He's worked hard to earn his position, and although he isn't the most talented, his discipline and drive has pushed him into the ranks.

Jorian, First level characters generally can't afford something like dragonhide armor. I know it's natural to want your character to be cool, but it's important to remember that first level is the very beginning for most characters. None of us have probably ever even seen a dragon, let alone killed one and turned it into armor.

I don't want to shoot down your idea, because it is cool, it's just that it makes your character seem a little big for his britches. It's the GM's call, but if it were me running it you'd have a better chance of getting in if you toned it down a bit.

Considering the character background and the traits planned to be taken it is logical, plus the armor would be paid to be made, never said my character would personally kill and skin the dragon

also, if it is true then the dragonhide modifier would basically only grant the immunity to the armor itself and not the wearer, so it would not matter right now and the result is just an expensive albeit stylish, light absorbing shadowy black Inquisitor Armor :)

Its up to the GM if dragon armor is common enough to be bought. Some dont allow it, some do. Mostly for druids who have a limited pool of armor to choose from. Also keep in mind that dragon armor can only be made in relation to the slain dragons size. For example hide armor would be from a large dragon (often young adults), banded mail would be from a huge dragon (often old), etc etc. So it does have an effect on the setting. Young adult dragons can take on villages while an old dragon could endanger a small city easy.

I dont know about piecemail rules sense armors already are a set and their stats are based off that. I dont think you can pick and choose what parts are made of what. AC is dependent on the whole thing and not just parts. Chainmail and Scalemail cover most of the body, while an armored coat is the same just with the advantage of being removal fast with a move action. Just like you cant pick what part of the body you attack you cant pick what parts of the armor are made of what, that would mean your armor is weaker in one spot then the other. Masterwork only grants a -1 armor check penalty, I dont see where that +1 AC and +5% arcane failure chance came from.

If your not familiar with PF (Pathfinder) rules then try here

Thankyou for the map that is a lot better than my version ;)

I have been thinking about this for a little while but I am going to say for a 1st level character dragon armour is a little much in my opinion. In the setting Dragons will be very very rare so killing one probably wipes them out :P The idea is pretty cool don't get me wrong but I am going to vote no Dragon Armour. Sorry.

No problem Varrian enjoy the holiday :D

The Shadows:
They were formed at the beginning of the War of Three by The Voice. It started with a group of priests that had a specific skill set; Death and Subterfuge. They were assassins, they were Shadows. Initially used to infiltrate enemy camps and kill high profile targets and generally cause mayhem. They were useful assets.

Now that there is ‘peace’ the Shadows serve a different purpose. Keep the flock faithful. They are said to stand at every corner, listen at every door and watch your very dreams. Those that speak out against The Voice do not speak again.

Some work as shop keepers, some in the town militia. You trust and maybe love them. You shouldn't.

Killjoy and Cyne:
Well if you wish to previously know each other that will be fine.

I had a few ideas that you may like not like but my key one was that:

One of you work for the Shadows and one work for an elite part of the militia. So the person who works for The Shadows has infiltrated that elite group and reports there actions back.

Just an idea for something like this might be fun. It is completely up to you both if you like it or not ;)

Varrian just checked my emails and I got your character sheet thanks :)

Backstory for Ukhozi, LG Half-elf sorcerer:
Born of an elven slave and left to the streets at a young age Ukhozi grew up with the street rats. While he became skilled at the arts of the street he was never comfortable participating in them. This at times led to a beating from the street gang he was a part of. One particularly severe beating unlocked his sorcerous powers, without discovering those latent abilities he certainly would have been left crippled or worse. With these new found abilities though came greater pressure from the group to assist them in their petty thefts and crimes.

A few days later Ukhozi watched in awe as the Paladin of Ansa single handedly bested six thugs and cutthroats and hauled them before the judges. In awe at his prowess and unwavering fearlessness Ukhozi sought to mimic the paladin, and often trailed him from a distance when he was in Ansa to learn more about him. From this point on Ukhozi was not only ostracized from society in general for his half-elven heritage, but from the street rats he grew up with as well.

He now seeks to prove himself to the world that he can one day feel worthy to stand alongside the Paladin of Ansa. He tries to live up to the ideals of the paladin code (as best he understands them anyway) though he isn't always successful in this task.

Still working on the stat block, but should have one done soon.

Completed character in my profile, minor tweaks to back story also included, but also posted here for reference.

Back story:

He now seeks to prove himself to the world so that he can one day feel worthy to stand alongside the Paladin of Ansa. He tries to live up to the ideals of the paladin code (as best he understands them anyway) though he isn't always successful in this task.

Appearance:
At 5'9" and 145 lbs Ukhozi is not an imposing figure. When casting spells though his normally golden blonde hair turns almost black.

I just wasn't sure what PF stands for

and the armor part comes from this: "Wearing an entire suit, whether its pieces are mixed or the same type, grants a +1 armor bonus on top of the protection the combination of pieces already grants the wearer. Wearing a mixed suit of armor increases the arcane spell failure chance by 5% because of the awkwardness of the design. Wearing less than a full suit of mixed armor does not increase the wearer's arcane spell failure chance."

As said, the rules are there at the Piecemeal Armor creation page.

Okay it isn't a problem, would have been mostly for flavor anyway especially as it turned out the immunity would have only been granted to the item and energy drain immunity for an armor makes a lot less sense than would fire immunity (as example), but red isn't the color for this char. It is black :)

You are okay with the basic 85g Inquisition Armor however, the non-dragonhide one, right? If yes then I will be using a masterwork version of that armor for the cost of 235g.

Now I know why I never heard about Piecemeal Armor, its a variant rule from UC (Ultimate Combat). Are we using those rules for this game?

If so what other variant rules can we use?
