{Illusionist 1} hp 8/8, AC 12, (T12/FF10), Init +4, Perc +2, Perc(fam)+9. F+1/R+2/W+2

Vigan kneels at the creature on the stairs, picking it over with his spear tip. "Our friend here would have had a long wait for a meal if no one had been using these stairs...perhaps it was expecting our perpetrators. Or maybe we could replace him with a trap of our own, if they come again."

He glances at the wound and turns back to the group "Clean cut, quick kill. Glad you were here. It was Hagar, Kellen, and Darius, is that right? I'm Vigan."

"Yes, it was Kellen. Kellen Lightfoot."

Kellen puts his hand over his face and groans when Ogrim pulls on the doors.

"Could you please not do that again, sir dwarf," Kellen asks with a sigh.

Kellen looks over the room for traps (Perception +6), and if he finds any will attempt to disable them (Disable Device +9). If the doors are locked he'll attempt to open them.

Male Dwarf Cleric 1, hp 12/12, AC 21, (T12/FF19), Init +4, Perc +8. F+5/R+2/W+5

Ogrim stops his prodding at Darius and Kellen's calls for excessive caution. "Fine, fine, have it your way."

He turns to Kellen

"Sooo, ye be one of them sneaky types? Then be my guest Master Gnome, find us all them nasty tricks yer kind is so fond of using."

Ogrim goes to stand in the center of the room, taking exaggerated care not to touch anything else.

Kellen is unable to find any traps in the room, but also, the doors seem to be impervious to any lock pick.

Male Dwarf Cleric 1, hp 12/12, AC 21, (T12/FF19), Init +4, Perc +8. F+5/R+2/W+5

Ogrim pulls out the chime that the priestess gave him.

"The lady said this was fer opening doors. Which one should he try first?"

"Which door we take I'd leave up to you, sir dwarf," Kellen says in exasperation. "And my skills are not all nasty tricks thank you very much."

Male Human Fighter (Unbreakable) 1 HP: 16/16, AC 18 (T11, FF17), F: +4/R: +1/W: +1, Init: +1, Percep: +1

As the northern wall bears the graffiti, perhaps we should open the corresponding northrn door.

Male Dwarf Cleric 1, hp 12/12, AC 21, (T12/FF19), Init +4, Perc +8. F+5/R+2/W+5

"Seems sound logic, north it is."

Ogrim uses the chime of opening on the northern door.

The seal of Pharasma burns bright red before melting away. The doors slowly slide open, iron grinding against the stone.

Bodies wrapped in age-yellowed linens lie in alcoves lining both sides of this wide corridor. Thick cobwebs hang from the ceiling and drape the walls of the crypt; everything is coated in a deep layer of dust.

Perception Checks:

Hagar - 1d20 ⇒ 16
Kellen - 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (8) + 6 = 14
Ogrim - 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (9) + 4 = 13
Vigan - 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (15) + 6 = 21
Darius - 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (1) + 5 = 6

Hagar and Vigan:

You find some strange-looking symbols lining the walls of the catacombs. They are completely foreign to you.

Ogrim leads the way into the hallway. As the full group enters, six spiders emerge from the alcoves - clearly unhappy about being disturbed.

Initiative Checks:

Hagar - 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (12) + 2 = 14
Kellen - 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (7) + 4 = 11
Ogrim - 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (5) + 9 = 14
Vigan - 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (15) + 4 = 19
Darius - 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 = 5

Spiders - 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (10) + 2 = 12

There is no surprise round.

Round 1
Vigan, Ogrim, Hagar and then the spiders.

Round 1 Map

Male Dwarf Cleric 1, hp 12/12, AC 21, (T12/FF19), Init +4, Perc +8. F+5/R+2/W+5

I know Vigan goes first, but I can't imagine what he does will affect my turn, so I'll just post to keep things rolling along.

With a yell of disgust at the creepy crawly emerging from the alcove next to him, Ogrim swings at the adjacent beastie with all his strength.

1d20 + 2 ⇒ (13) + 2 = 15 for 2d6 + 3 ⇒ (2, 2) + 3 = 7

{Illusionist 1} hp 8/8, AC 12, (T12/FF10), Init +4, Perc +2, Perc(fam)+9. F+1/R+2/W+2

If the spiders have cover across the corner I'll first 5ft step to AT24 and use flurry of blows on the spider at AT25.

If they do not have cover from the corners I'll attack the spider next to Ogrim at AV25.

1d20 + 2 ⇒ (7) + 2 = 91d6 + 3 ⇒ (1) + 3 = 4
1d20 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 2 = 51d6 + 3 ⇒ (3) + 3 = 6

HP 12/12, AC 18, (T12/FF16), Init +2, Perc +0. F+3/R+2/W+0

Since I do not see myself on the map, I'll just say I attack one of the spiders, making a 5' step if needed, to negate any cover they might have had

First attack 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (10) + 4 = 14
potential dmg. 1d8 + 4 ⇒ (2) + 4 = 6

Second attack 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (4) + 4 = 8
potential dmg. 1d8 + 4 ⇒ (5) + 4 = 9

Hagar, you were "under" Ogrim - my bad.

Ogrim brings his sword down and cleaves the spider in half. Vigan, however, doesn't manage to squash any of the bugs with either of his attacks. Hagar manages to destroy the spider he's facing with the first swing of his axe.

The first spider (AV, 22), snaps its pincers at Darius.

1d20 ⇒ 3

But Darius easily avoids the attack.

The second spider (AT, 25), snaps at Vigan.

1d20 ⇒ 4

The third spider (AR, 23) steps toward Hagar and tries to attack him.

1d20 ⇒ 4

The final spider (AR, 25) steps towards Vigan and tries to snap at him.

1d20 ⇒ 7

Kellen and then Darius to finish out Round 1.

Updated Map

Male Human Fighter (Unbreakable) 1 HP: 16/16, AC 18 (T11, FF17), F: +4/R: +1/W: +1, Init: +1, Percep: +1

Darius spins the staff in his hands, lashing out to crack it down towards the spider that tried to bite him.

Round1:
Standard action attack on Spider (AV,22): 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (16) + 3 = 19, Damage: 1d6 + 3 ⇒ (2) + 3 = 5
If Kellen manages to kill the one I'm attacking before I get to attack it, then I will 5-foot step and use the above attack string on Spider (AT,25).

{Illusionist 1} hp 8/8, AC 12, (T12/FF10), Init +4, Perc +2, Perc(fam)+9. F+1/R+2/W+2

I guess I'll go ahead and post, hopefully Kellen is still around.

A calm seems to come to Vigan's face as he drops into two fast foot sweep maneuvers against the forward wall of spiders.

Primary target is AS23. If first flurry attack drops it, second will target AS24. If AS23 dies, then I will 5ft step to AS23.

1d20 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 2 = 31d6 + 3 ⇒ (6) + 3 = 9
1d20 + 2 ⇒ (13) + 2 = 151d6 + 3 ⇒ (2) + 3 = 5

Kellen strikes out with his sword at the spider next to Darius, and attempts to dispatch it before it can harm him.

Round1:
Standard action attack on Spider (AV,22): 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (9) + 1 = 10, Damage: 1d4 + 3 ⇒ (4) + 3 = 7.

Kellen unsuccessfully hits the spider, but Darius' quick smash with his staff does the trick. The small bones in the spider crunch and the creature dies. Vigan's first attack misses, but the second finds its mark, squashing the bug under his foot.

End Round 1

Vigan, Ogrim, Hagar and then the spiders.

Updated Map

{Illusionist 1} hp 8/8, AC 12, (T12/FF10), Init +4, Perc +2, Perc(fam)+9. F+1/R+2/W+2

That was my action to start this round, sorry that wasn't clear...jumped the gun a bit. I wanted to move into AS23, or is it still alive?

Male Dwarf Cleric 1, hp 12/12, AC 21, (T12/FF19), Init +4, Perc +8. F+5/R+2/W+5

So is the spider at AV22 dead?

HP 12/12, AC 18, (T12/FF16), Init +2, Perc +0. F+3/R+2/W+0

Fighting with a disciplined focus, Hagar turns to the spider in front of him, using simple but brutal hacks to butcher the creature.

First attack 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (16) + 4 = 20
Potential dmg1d8 + 4 ⇒ (8) + 4 = 12

Second attack 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (8) + 4 = 12
Potential dmg1d8 + 4 ⇒ (7) + 4 = 11

No worries, Vigan. This actually updated map below should answer your question, Ogrim.

Hagar's axe cleaves straight through the spider (AS,24) with the first blow.

An Actually Updated Map

Male Dwarf Cleric 1, hp 12/12, AC 21, (T12/FF19), Init +4, Perc +8. F+5/R+2/W+5

If possible to reach the spider from there, Ogrim moves to AU24 and swings at the beastie.

1d20 + 2 ⇒ (13) + 2 = 15 for 2d6 + 3 ⇒ (1, 4) + 3 = 8

Otherwise he does nothing.

Ogrim's sword just barely catches on the corner of the alcove, giving the spider ample time to avoid the blow.

Only one spider remains - it bites at Hagar.

Bite Attack: 1d20 ⇒ 19

Hagar Fort Save: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (1) + 3 = 4

Hagar feels the poison enter his system through the small bite. He feels a little wobbly on his feet.

You're currently -1 Con point. Which also affects your HP - you're currently at 11 HP.

Kellen and then Darius to wrap up.

Kellen stays his hand and position but keeps an eye on the spider in case it manages to wriggle past someone.

Kellen is holding his action and if the spider comes within range of him he'll attack it.

Male Human Fighter (Unbreakable) 1 HP: 16/16, AC 18 (T11, FF17), F: +4/R: +1/W: +1, Init: +1, Percep: +1

Darius moves towards the last spider as it sinks its fangs into Hagar's arm. Punching out with his staff, he aims to puncture its large abdomen.

5-foot step to AU,24. Attacking spider.
Attack: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (6) + 3 = 9, Damage: 1d6 + 3 ⇒ (5) + 3 = 8

{Illusionist 1} hp 8/8, AC 12, (T12/FF10), Init +4, Perc +2, Perc(fam)+9. F+1/R+2/W+2

I'll 5ft to AS24 and flurry across the cover.

Vigan advances, taking an opening in the combat to deliver 2 quick strikes, attempting to punt the spider up into the wall with a jumping double kick.

1d20 + 2 ⇒ (10) + 2 = 121d6 + 3 ⇒ (1) + 3 = 4
1d20 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 2 = 41d6 + 3 ⇒ (1) + 3 = 4

Darius is unable to land a clean blow on the spider, and it easily moves out of the way of his staff.

End Round 2

Vigan moves forward and lashes out. Unfortunately, the alcove provides some coverage and the spider is unharmed.

Updated Map

Ogrim, Hagar and then the spiders.

Male Dwarf Cleric 1, hp 12/12, AC 21, (T12/FF19), Init +4, Perc +8. F+5/R+2/W+5

Ogirm just bides his time, confident that Hagar can finish the job.

HP 12/12, AC 18, (T12/FF16), Init +2, Perc +0. F+3/R+2/W+0

Already feeling effects of poison slowly spreading through his body, Hagar throws caution aside, and viciously slashes twice toward the spider, trying to end the fight.

First attack 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (2) + 4 = 6
Potential dmg. 1d8 + 4 ⇒ (1) + 4 = 5

Second attack 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (3) + 4 = 7
Potential dmg. 1d8 + 4 ⇒ (2) + 4 = 6

The remaining spider bites at Hagar.

1d20 ⇒ 6

But he easily avoids it.

Finish this, people!

Male Human Fighter (Unbreakable) 1 HP: 16/16, AC 18 (T11, FF17), F: +4/R: +1/W: +1, Init: +1, Percep: +1

Darius moves forward hoping to crush the remaining spider under the butt of his quarterstaff.

Attack: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (15) + 3 = 18, Damage: 1d6 + 3 ⇒ (5) + 3 = 8

Ding, ding, ding - that's it!

Darius manages to pop the small spider - it explodes on the walls with a satisfying crunch.

Everyone takes home 25XP

The hallway is still. Two double doors lie to the north.

{Illusionist 1} hp 8/8, AC 12, (T12/FF10), Init +4, Perc +2, Perc(fam)+9. F+1/R+2/W+2

Vigan looks over Hagar's wound, oblivious to medicine but sure of the strangely greener than normal tint to his skin. He turns away respectfully and gives attention to the hall.

"I wonder what those symbols mean...this corridor seems ancient. Why would spiders like these chose this place among others?he kneels briefly to the floor."There must be a certain vein of life down here..."

Any disturbances in the dust along the corpses?

Perception check:
1d20 + 6 ⇒ (4) + 6 = 10

Kellen grimaces and says, Spiders... Why'd it have to be spiders.

Male Dwarf Cleric 1, hp 12/12, AC 21, (T12/FF19), Init +4, Perc +8. F+5/R+2/W+5

Ogrim roots through the alcoves, looking anything of use or value.

Perception 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (19) + 4 = 23

You are unable to find anything of value or out of the ordinary. The skulls simply served as home for the spiders.

No one has Knowledge:Religion, correct?

HP 12/12, AC 18, (T12/FF16), Init +2, Perc +0. F+3/R+2/W+0
GM Idyll wrote:

Not here, for sure :-(

While others look around, Hagar checks the scratch he has received from the spider, trying to will, to somehow push his own body to fight with the poison inside. After all, he was a big (half)orc, a little spider poison should not be able to harm him.

Fortitude check 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (13) + 3 = 16

You feel the poison leave your body - your constitution returns to normal.

{Illusionist 1} hp 8/8, AC 12, (T12/FF10), Init +4, Perc +2, Perc(fam)+9. F+1/R+2/W+2

Vigan glances down at the double doors and then to Kellen, expectantly. Inside a certain frustration creeps back into his conscious. He questions himself, why is he here? Is this just some deadly distraction? The seal is down here somewhere...but he seems unprepared, unable to even read the writing on the wall.

He fingers the coral tablet, he was supposed to study this weeks ago. Missed opportunity is a dead weight.

The doors to the north open with a push. You emerge from the hallway into a much larger room.

The ceiling of this cavernous chamber vaults to a height of sixty feet, forming an architectural wonder unsupported by any visible columns or buttresses. The room is filled with an eerie, blue light. You enter on a wide stone bridge with an elaborately carved railing. It arches over the chamber from north to south, joining two sets of massive bronze doors at either end. The central portion of the chamber, 40' below the bridge, contains an inlaid spiral symbol and is recessed into the floor, with eight staircases leading up to a wide ledge that encircles the room. On this ledge stand bronze doors to the east and west. Eight larger-than-life statues stand upon the ledge as well, evenly spaced around the room’s circumference—seven carved from white stone, and the eighth carved from black stone.

The only way to proceed is north across the bridge, but I'll let you take in this room and do some perception/knowledge checks.

Chamber Map

Male Human Fighter (Unbreakable) 1 HP: 16/16, AC 18 (T11, FF17), F: +4/R: +1/W: +1, Init: +1, Percep: +1

Darius glanced around the chamber, taking in the vastness of the structure and the various entry ways. Ominous would be a good word to describe this. Well we've got a job to do.

Perception to notice anything out of the ordinary: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (13) + 5 = 18
Don't know which would pertain so here's my Knowledge options:
Arcana: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (6) + 6 = 12
Local: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (20) + 6 = 26
Planes: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (15) + 6 = 21

{Illusionist 1} hp 8/8, AC 12, (T12/FF10), Init +4, Perc +2, Perc(fam)+9. F+1/R+2/W+2

Vigan pauses for a moment at the peak of the bridge and tries to hear anything from the direction of the doors to the east and west.

1d20 + 6 ⇒ (15) + 6 = 21

K(planes) check for statues:
1d20 + 5 ⇒ (3) + 5 = 8

Darius:

Your knowledge of the arcane detects that the light in this room is magical, but of an unknown source.

Unfortunately, your other intelligence is unhelpful.

You also spot nothing out of the ordinary.

Vigan:

You don't detect anything.

And your knowledge of the planes yields no insight to the statues.

Male Dwarf Cleric 1, hp 12/12, AC 21, (T12/FF19), Init +4, Perc +8. F+5/R+2/W+5

"Fancy."

Perception: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (19) + 4 = 23

Ogrim:

You detect nothing out of the ordinary, though the statues below look like they may be of interest. You're just too far elevated from them to really detect anything specific.

HP 12/12, AC 18, (T12/FF16), Init +2, Perc +0. F+3/R+2/W+0

Hagar looks around the strange chamber with curiosity, all the while ready for any danger which may arise. The question is not If, simply when... passed through his mind while he was trying to determine the source of the strange blue light.

Perception check 1d20 ⇒ 17

Male Dwarf Cleric 1, hp 12/12, AC 21, (T12/FF19), Init +4, Perc +8. F+5/R+2/W+5

"Hmmm, those statues look mighty interesting. Did anyone think to bring a length of rope?"

HP 12/12, AC 18, (T12/FF16), Init +2, Perc +0. F+3/R+2/W+0

"Never leave home without one" - grunts half-orc and chuckles to what he considers a good joke.

Offering with his left hand to Ogrim a coil of finely woven, yet very sturdy silk rope, he adds: "With or without this?" - as he shows dangling grappling hook already attached to one side of the rope.

Male Dwarf Cleric 1, hp 12/12, AC 21, (T12/FF19), Init +4, Perc +8. F+5/R+2/W+5

Ogrim grunts his approval at Hagar's preparedness.

"I was thinkin' that we could tie it off on the bridge and drop down to the floor and then take the stairs up to the statues. Though maybe we should see where this path lead to first. I dunno, what to you all think?"

{Illusionist 1} hp 8/8, AC 12, (T12/FF10), Init +4, Perc +2, Perc(fam)+9. F+1/R+2/W+2

"What do you mean? Whats interesting about them?" Vigan inquires blandly. He adds "Climbing down there shouldn't be a problem."
